Mission: Impossible 7: Simon Pegg Explains How & When Production Will Restart

Simon Pegg has shared an update on how the Mission: Impossible 7 team is aiming to get back into production by September, several months after filming was halted due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Speaking to Variety, Pegg, who plays tech expert Benji Dunn in the franchise, confirmed that a September restart is currently “the plan” for the Christopher McQuarrie-directed movie. “That will begin with the outdoor stuff,” he revealed. “That feels fairly doable, and obviously there will be precautions put in place.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/13/mission-impossible-in-7-minutes-2018-update”]

Pegg noted that the large-scale shoot would likely present some challenges along the way, as he suggested that logistics would need to be figured out for shooting certain scenes, especially when the action moves indoors. He jokingly remarked that fight scenes would need to be shot “five feet apart.”

“People that are involved in any close proximity stuff, it will have to be determined that they’re safe to do that,” he explained to the outlet. “I don’t know what the testing situation is, how that works, or whether they’ll be able to be tested regularly.”

First assistant director Tommy Gormley further addressed the complexities of shooting the film’s “stunt scenes” and “crowd scenes” in a separate interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today show, though he also displayed confidence in the production picking up in September and running right the way through to April/May next year.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/30/christopher-mcquarrie-breaks-down-mission-impossible-fallouts-bathroom-scene”]

“This is our challenge,” he said. “We are not a chamber piece movie. We do spectacle, and that is what people expect of us. If we have the protocols in place and we break down all the procedures very carefully… we will get it going again.

“We hope to visit all the countries we planned to and look to do a big chunk of it back in the UK on the backlot and in the studio,” he added. “So September through to end April/May is our targets. We are convinced we can do this.”

The cast and crew of Mission: Impossible 7 were apparently poised to shoot a major sequence in Italy when that country went into lockdown and production on the Tom Cruise-led film shut down indefinitely. This setback in the shooting schedule reportedly forced Nicholas Hoult to drop out of the production altogether.

Amid these shifts and delays in production, Paramount Pictures pushed back the release of Mission: Impossible 7 from July 23, 2021, to November 19, 2021. Mission: Impossible 8, previously scheduled for wide release on August 5, 2022, has also now been pushed to November 4, 2022.

Cyberpunk News Showcase Delayed to June 25

The Cyberpunk 2077 news broadcast, Night City Wire has been delayed to June 25.

Originally scheduled for June 11, developer CD Projekt Red explained that the move was due to the current protests and outcry following the death of George Floyd. “More important discussions are happening right now”, reads the statement, “and we want them to be heard. We wholeheartedly stand against racism, intolerance and violence. Black Lives Matter.”

CD Projekt Red joins Sony’s PS5 event and IGN Expo in delaying events due to current circumstances.

Where To Get A Nintendo Switch Lite: In Stock At Target

As a result of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, there is now a worldwide Nintendo Switch shortage. Nintendo’s newest console has become hard to come by. Retailers are struggling to keep up with increased demand for the console as millions of people around the world continue to stay at home, looking for something to do. The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has likely given a huge boost to console sales as well. The Switch Lite is seeing stock issues as well, particularly for its newly released Coral shade, but thankfully, the handheld-only console is a little easier to find than its larger counterpart.

If you’re just looking for any kind of Nintendo Switch, there are a few differences between the Switch and Switch Lite you should know about. The Switch Lite is a handheld-only console–it’s smaller, doesn’t have motion-sensing Joy-Cons you can detach, and can’t be hooked up to a TV. The tradeoff is that you get a proper D-pad (instead of the Joy-Cons’ separated directional buttons) and a significantly lower price tag: $200, as opposed to the Switch’s $300 price. Apart from some very rare exceptions, both consoles can play all the same games (if you’re looking for some recommendations, check out our list of the best Switch games).

That said, third-party sellers on stores like Amazon and Walmart have taken advantage of the shortage of Nintendo Switch consoles and have started marking up the prices significantly or offering it behind bundles. Here, we’re keeping track of where you can buy a Switch Lite at all major retailers for its MSRP of $200. Some of the out-of-stock listings may be available for a higher price, or offer a used console.

If you’re looking to buy the $300 Nintendo Switch, we have a separate guide where you can check Nintendo Switch availability at different retailers.

Please note that price and availability may change between regular updates.

Pokemon Sword & Shield: Get Free Galar Starters Via Pokemon Home

A few more free Pokemon are up for grabs for Sword and Shield. Players who transfer a monster from either title to Pokemon Home will be able to claim the three Galar starters: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. What makes these particular Pokemon special is that they each have their Hidden Abilities, which up until now have not been available in Sword and Shield.

Grookey’s Hidden Ability is Grassy Surge, which sets up Grassy Terrain as soon as the Pokemon enters the field. Scorbunny’s is Libero; this changes the Pokemon’s type to match whatever move it is using. Finally, Sobble’s Hidden Ability is Sniper, which increases the amount of damage critical hits inflict.

Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble
Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble

To claim these starters, you’ll first need to transfer a Pokemon from Sword or Shield to Pokemon Home on Nintendo Switch. Once you’ve done that, log into the mobile version of Pokemon Home and do the following:

  • Select the Menu button at the bottom of the screen
  • Select Mystery Gift
  • Select Gift Box
  • Tap on each Pokemon in the Gift Box and select Receive

You don’t need to have a Pokemon Home subscription in order to take advantage of this offer, but some of the service’s features–such as the ability to trade Pokemon or view their base stats–are locked behind a premium plan, which costs $3 USD for one month, $5 USD for three months, and $16 USD for one year. You can learn more in our breakdown of Pokemon Home free and premium plan features.

These aren’t the only free Pokemon available right now. Sword and Shield players can also claim a free Galarian Ponyta with its Hidden Ability until June 4. The Pokemon Company will be giving away a few more free monsters in the lead up to Isle of Armor‘s launch, including a Galarian Corsola and Galarian Meowth.

As for Isle of Armor, we recently learned the DLC expansion will release on June 17. The Pokemon Company shared a load of other new details about it, including new story tidbits, additional tutor moves, and more.

Wonder Woman Director Turned Down Directing Justice League Movie

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has revealed that she was once offered the chance to direct a Justice League movie, but she ultimately decided to turn the project down.

ComicBook.com reports that Jenkins made the admission in a recent interview, published by French magazine Premiere, as she elaborated on her reasons for passing up the opportunity to helm a superhero ensemble film.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/snyder-cut-of-justice-league-is-actually-coming-to-hbo-max-ign-now”]

“I love comics, but I’ve come to superheroes through films,” she said. “There is in me this desire to emulate compared to the movies I saw as a child. A certain spirit that reigned in those times. Is that relevant when I shoot? I don’t know.

“The point is, unlike other directors, I don’t really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail. I’ve been contacted to make a Justice League movie in the past, and it doesn’t connect to me. Too many characters.”

It is unclear whether Jenkins was contacted over Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoot, eventually completed by Joss Whedon, or whether she was offered a sequel movie, or an entirely different Justice League project altogether.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=every-dceu-movie-review-score&captions=true”]

Snyder was announced as the director of Justice League in 2014, but he had to step away from the film in its final stages due to a heartbreaking personal tragedy.

After years of campaigning for his version of the film to be released, the Man of Steel filmmaker recently confirmed that the Snyder Cut – or at least Snyder Cut – would be coming to HBO Max in 2021, and it might take the form of a four-hour movie, or even a TV-like run of episodes.

New Footage of Cancelled Avengers Game Emerges

Ten minutes of new footage from the cancelled first-person Avengers game has been uploaded to the internet, captured from an early build that was secured by a video game preservation community.

This version of the Avengers game was discovered on a hard drive by Obscure Gamers, and the footage uploaded by Andrew Borman, the digital games curator at the Museum of Play. In the tweet above you can see Captain America in action, hurling his shield at enemy Skrulls, and the full video on YouTube also demonstrates Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk in action, too.

The footage is clearly taken from an early build of the game, which features sparse, undetailed levels, placeholder collectables, and untextured enemy models. But despite the early nature of the assets, you can easily see the kind of first-person co-op brawling gameplay that the project was working towards.

This Avengers project was set to be a co-op game that would coincide with the release of the first Avengers movie, and was inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book story arc in which the Skrulls invade earth by shapeshifting into members of society and taking their place. In the menus we can spot several key Marvel locations as levels, including SHIELD’s headquarters, the Triskelion.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/04/14/what-would-be-your-dream-avengers-game”]

The game, which was in development in 2011 at THQ Studio Australia and Blue Tongue Entertainment, was eventually cancelled after THQ suffered financial troubles and was eventually forced to close.

While this Avengers co-op game sadly never saw completion and release, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix are currently working on a new, third-person Marvel’s Avengers co-op game, due to release this September. You’ll be able to see more from the game as part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming event, where more will be shown of the War Table feature.
