Gotham City Comes Alive Thanks to Incredible Batman Statues

Half the fun of NYCC is checking out all the amazing new toys and collectibles on display. DC Collectibles’ booth doesn’t disappoint, especially if you like your collection heavy on all things Batman.

Check out the slideshow gallery below for a closer look at what DC is showing off this week (photos by Josh Du).

DC is placing a lot of focus on the long-running Batman: Black & White statue line, which makes sense given that the upcoming Todd McFarlane-inspired statue will be the 100th in the series. DC’s display features a greatest hits lineup of classic B&W statues along with a closer look at the aforementioned McFarlane piece and the debut of a new Jim Lee-inspired piece.

The Grudge Remake Debuts Footage at NYCC

The cast of The Grudge remake – Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Andrea Riseborough – were on hand at New York Comic Con 2019 to promote the R-rated horror reboot alongside writer/director Nicolas Pesce and executive producer Sam Raimi.

The panel – which was moderated by IGN’s Terri Schwartz – gave NYCC attendees a first look at the new iteration of the franchise, which takes place in the same continuity as the American Grudge films that kicked off with the 2004 movie starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. The series is based on the Japanese horror franchise Ju-On, created by Takashi Shimizu.

The new film stars Riseborough as small-town cop investigating a mysterious case that leads her to a cursed house. As you may remember from the earlier films, The Grudge features a curse that is enacted when someone dies in the grip of rage, and takes hold of a particular place and “infects” anyone who enters, cursing them with a violent death.

HTC Vive Cosmos Hands-On Impressions

Although the HTC Vive Cosmos was announced at January 2019 during CES, the company only recently announced that the VR headset would begin shipping on October 3rd for $699. More importantly, we only got a drip-feed of information about the headset while it was hidden behind closed doors, but now we’re finally getting our hands on it.

The first thing you might notice about the Vive Cosmos is wow–it looks good. HTC has seriously stepped up its game with an eye-catching metallic blue paint job and a flashy geometric mesh front facia. This is a good change as HTC hasn’t been known for producing the most aesthetically pleasing hardware: that honor has previously gone to the simply streamlined and fabric-lined Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest.

Why Joker Doesn’t Have a Post-Credits Scene

Joker does not have a post-credits scene, and director and co-writer, Todd Phillips, spoke to GamesRadar and explained why it was excluded from the film.

“The idea of a post-credits scene in this movie would seem wrong, and a little too light for me,” Phillips said.

“That wouldn’t have been something we did. But Joaquin

said it would be funny to put bloopers alongside the names like they did in the old days,” he said.

Joker isn’t the only comic book movie to buck the trend of a scene during the credits.

Pokemon Go Adds A New Shiny Pokemon

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

A Pokemon Go Safari Zone event is now underway in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and to celebrate, Niantic is making a new Shiny Pokemon available worldwide. Right now, players around the globe have their first chance to encounter a Shiny Oddish in the hit Pokemon mobile game.

The arrival of Shiny Oddish means this is also your chance to get Shiny versions of its evolved forms: Gloom, Vileplume, and Bellossom. These, however, won’t appear in the wild, so if you’re hoping to add them to your collection, you’ll need to be lucky enough to catch a Shiny Oddish and then evolve it.

There will be increased Oddish spawns throughout the weekend to coincide with the Safari Zone event, making this your best chance to find a Shiny variant. Players at the venue, meanwhile, will encounter increased spawns of Heracross, Unown, and other rare Pokemon.

That isn’t the only event underway in Pokemon Go right now. Niantic is also bringing the Stardust Blast event back. Until October 10, you’ll receive twice the normal amount of Stardust for catching Pokemon, hatching eggs, and battling Team Rocket. You’ll also receive 2,000 Stardust for participating in Raids. Meanwhile, October’s Community Day takes place next Saturday, October 12.

In other Pokemon Go news, Niantic recently revealed three new members of Team Rocket who’ll presumably be making an appearance in the game soon. All three are featured on Pokemon Go’s new loading screen alongside Team Rocket boss Giovanni. The Legendary Giratina is also back in Raid Battles until October 17.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Preview: A Stunningly Detailed Aviation Simulation

I don’t think I’ve ever been as impressed by any technology as much as I was by Microsoft’s upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator (which is coming to Xbox One for the first time, in addition to its usual PC release). It’s astonishing in its commitment to realism, and the implementation is clever, extraordinarily technical, and completely blew me away.

I was lucky enough to experience the sim at the Worldwide Flight Simulator Press Event, held at the offices of Rainier Air at the Renton Municipal Airport just outside Seattle. The city of Renton is an aviation city, home of the Boeing manufacturing plant responsible for the 737 airliner. Sitting on the edge of Lake Washington, the woodlands give way to massive hangars and aircraft in various states of completion. The airfield where I got to learn about and play Flight Simulator is the first strip of tarmac the 737’s taste before they take to the sky to be delivered to customers around the globe.
