Top 10 UK Games Chart: Following FIFA 20 Reveal, FIFA 19 Claims Top Spot

E3 2019 is in full swing and FIFA 20 has been announced, but back here in the UK it’s last year’s football title, FIFA 19, that’s reaping the rewards. The existing FIFA game has risen to No.1 in the UK physical sales chart for the week ending June 8, according to sales monitor Chart-Track.

Following closely behind at No.2 is PS4 exclusive Days Gone. In fact, PlayStation titles are littered throughout the chart, thanks in part to Sony’s Days of Play sale. Spider-Man finishes at No.3, for instance, while Blood & Truth is at No.5 and PSVR Worlds is at No.10.

You can read the full top 10 sales chart for this week below, courtesy of UKIE and GfK Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

While FIFA 19 is still charting well, much of the footballing attention over the weekend was focused on its successor. FIFA 20 is adding a new Volta Mode, which channels the street football energy of FIFA Street. The mode won’t, however, come to Nintendo Switch, whose FIFA 20 port lacks “any of the big features.” FIFA 20’s release date has been set for September 27.

  1. FIFA 19
  2. Days Gone
  3. Spider-Man
  4. Red Dead Redemption 2
  5. Blood & Truth
  6. Grand Theft Auto V
  7. Team Sonic Racing
  8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  9. Mortal Kombat 11
  10. PSVR Worlds

DC’s Zombie Outbreak Spreads to New DCeased One-Shot

If you were sad when you heard DC’s zombie outbreak event DCeased would just be a six issue mini-series, then we have some good news for you. An upcoming oversized one-shot titled DCeased: A Good Day to Die will tell an additional story set in that world turned mad by a techno-organic rage virus, spearheaded by DCeased writer Tom Taylor and joined by artists Darick Robertson (The Boys) and Laura Braga (DC Comics Bombshells) with more names to come.

“Honestly, as soon as I started writing DCeased, I realized I could write it for years,” Taylor told IGN over email on how this extra DCeased tale came to be. “With the epic scope of this series, there was no way to fit all the characters and all the ideas I had into just six issues. … We had a whole cast of characters whose tale was ending up on the comics cutting room floor. Writing is about killing your darlings, but these were darlings I wasn’t even going to get the chance to kill… until the idea of this special was raised by editor Ben Abernathy.”

E3 2019: Halo Infinite Still Coming To Xbox One, Microsoft Confirms

Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference brought an onslaught of gaming news, and one of the biggest tidbits was the existence of the previously rumored Xbox Scarlett console. The company also showed off a new trailer for Halo Infinite and confirmed the game would come to Xbox Scarlett in Holiday 2020. However, the publisher did not say at the time whether Infinite would still come to Xbox One and PC, as was previously announced.

Following the conference, Microsoft reassured fans the shooter was indeed coming to its current-gen machine. In a post on the Xbox wire, the official blog’s editor-in-chief Will Tuttle listed Halo Infinite for Project Scarlett, Xbox One, and Windows 10.

Halo Infinite was shown off for the first time since E3 2018 with its new trailer, but we still haven’t seen any gameplay. We subsequently learned the game will stay dark until E3 2020, so we won’t be learning much about the game until next year. What we did find out is that the game will focus on Master Chief, whose primary focus will be “mysteries surrounding the appearance of The Pilot and the desolate remains of a Halo ring.” Microsoft also reiterated that Infinite runs on 343 Industries’ “next-generation” game engine, known as Slipspace.

Halo Infinite and Xbox Scarlett will launch Holiday 2020. A more specific release date was not shared, nor were any further details on what to expect from the game. Take a look at more news from E3 2019–as well as the remaining scheduled press conferences–below.

New To Amazon Prime, Hulu, And Shudder This Week: Movies, TV Shows, And Originals

It’s almost the halfway point in June, and while you may be running out of things to binge on your favorite streaming service, don’t worry because every week, there’s something new to watch. This week, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and the horror-themed Shudder all have tons of new content for you to check out.

Starting with Amazon Prime Video, there are only a few new selections this week. First, on Thursday, June 13, the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher comedy No Strings Attached hits the service. A day later, the 2009 crime drama starring Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler Law Abiding Citizen releases. It’s a light week for Amazon.

Over on Hulu, there is quite a bit more to choose from. On Monday, June 10, you can watch Christian Bale look unrecognizable as former Vice President Dick Cheney in the 2019 film Vice. E3 2019: Wolfenstein: Youngblood Trailer Shows Hunting Nazis Is Better With Family

Bethesda was busy during its E3 2019 press conference, revealing the release date for Doom Eternal, detailing a new expansion for Fallout 76, and showing off Rage 2 DLC. The company also announced new games, such as the returning Commander Keen, Tango Gamework’s Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Arkane Studios’ Deathloop.

However, that didn’t stop Bethesda from dedicating time to the not-too-distant future either. Wolfenstein: Youngblood is just over a month away, and a violent new gameplay trailer has revealed some new details amidst all of the quick-cuts between frenetic Nazi-killing action.

Unlike any other game in the long-running series, Youngblood is a co-op shooter that can be played in single-player with an AI companion or in multiplayer with a friend. It’s set two decades after the conclusion of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and takes place in an alternate reality version of 1980s Nazi-occupied Paris. Usual protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz has gone missing, so it’s up to his equally proficient daughters, Jess and Soph Blazkowicz–the “Terror Twins–to find him.

Aside from the new dual protagonists, the most interesting aspect of Youngblood is the introduction of co-op to the series. Combat in recent iterations of Wolfenstein has had a distinct feel and flow to it that now has to account for two powerful killing machines. The fast-paced trailer doesn’t signify if stealth will be returning as a viable option, but the sight of a gruesome melee kill would hint that you’ll be able to sneak through missions in tandem.

As far as new weaponry goes, the trailer shows off some advanced tools of Nazi-killing destruction. There’s an electricity gun that sets enemies on fire like the taser in Syphon Filter (a Tesla Cannon, perhaps?), rapid-fire Uzis that can be dual-wielded, and a Magnum Pistole that’s capable of popping skulls with relative ease. The “Terror Twins” are also wearing power armour similar to the one B.J. donned in The New Colossus, so there will probably be a degree of customisation between the two characters when it comes to selecting special abilities.

We’ll know more on July 26, 2019 when Wolfenstein: Youngblood is released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Dark Phoenix Opens With Lowest Box Office Gross In The X-men Series

The latest X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, hit theaters this weekend and scored the lowest opening for a movie in the entire mutant superhero series. The film opened at No.2 and made an estimated $33 million in its first three days on release. This is well below the last X-Men movie, 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, which debuted with $65.7 million, which was itself considered a disappointment at the time. Dark Phoenix did better overseas and opened with $45.6 million in China, to bring the worldwide total to $107 million. Nevertheless, considering the negative reviews and the fact that the X-Men series is eventually expected to be rolled into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is almost certainly the last movie featuring the current cast.

The animated The Secret Life of Pets 2 claimed the No.1 slot this weekend, with an estimated $47.1 million. Although the film did top the chart, this was also an underwhelming result compared to the impressive $104.3 million that the first film took in 2016, which remains a record opening for an original animated film in the US. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the reported production budget of Pets 2 was less than half of that of Dark Phoenix ($80 million compared to $200 million).

There were no other new entries in the Top 10 this weekend. Last week’s No.1, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, dropped into fourth place. Its domestic gross now stands at $78.5 million, and as Box Office Mojo notes, the film may have trouble breaking the $100 million barrier in the US. Its predecessor, 2014’s Godzilla, made $136 million in the US.

Elsewhere, Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin moved down one place to No.3, while the musical Elton John biopic Rocketman fell to No.5. In the lower half of the chart, the Blumhouse-produced horror Ma and action sequel John Wick: Chapter 3–Parabellum, are at No.6 and No.7 respectively, while Marvel’s hugely successful Avengers: Endgame is at No.8. The movie has now taken $824.3 million in the US and $1.90 billion worldwide.

You can see the full Top 10 list for the June 7-9 US box office below, as compiled by Box Office Mojo.

US Box Office For June 7-9:

  1. The Secret Life of Pets – $47.1
  2. Dark Phoenix Fox – $33.0
  3. Aladdin – $24.5
  4. Godzilla: King of the Monsters – $15,5
  5. Rocketman – $14.0
  6. Ma – $7,8
  7. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – $7,4
  8. Avengers: Endgame – $4.8
  9. Pokemon Detective Pikachu – $2.9
  10. Booksmart – $1.5

E3 2019: New Xbox Scarlett Console Does Have Disc Drive, Microsoft Confirms

The new Xbox console, Scarlett, was perhaps the biggest news to emerge from Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference. However, despite revealing many of Scarlett’s specs, the company did not confirm whether the device would include a physical disc drive.

Fortunately, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has since reassured fans that Scarlett will indeed include a disc drive. He told GamesIndustry.biz that physical games are a part of the company’s future and went on to say: “We know that people still have discs. So even when we put out things like the Xbox One S All-Digital edition, we are very clear with the name because I am not trying to confuse anybody, that if you are somebody that has a library of discs, or that’s the way you want to acquire the content, then you should buy the Xbox One S, not the Xbox One S All-Digital… which is why we put it in the name, and yes I know it says SAD.

“I want to be very descriptive, because I am not trying to confuse anybody about what the options are. I want to give people choice, and right now physical is a choice that millions of people love.”

In recent months Microsoft has increasingly pushed digital games with initiatives such as Xbox Game Pass, which recently came to PC and is currently available for $1 / £1 with Xbox Live Gold included, and the Xbox One S All-Digital console, which does not come with a disc drive. The company is also rumored to be developing a second Scarlett console, reportedly codenamed Lockhart, that foregoes a disc drive, though this is as yet unconfirmed. In addition, Microsoft’s game streaming service, Project xCloud, launches this year.

The Xbox Scarlett console, or whatever it ends up being called, will launch in Holiday 2020. Pricing was not announced. But what we do know is that Halo Infinite will also release in Holiday 2020, presumably as a launch title for the new console.

E3 2019: New Persona 5 Royal Trailer Reveals English Voices–Watch It Here

The highly anticipated PS4 exclusive Persona 5 Royal launches for PS4 later this year in Japan, but Westerners need to wait until next year. Fortunately, we now have a new trailer to tide us over.

The video reveals the game’s English voice cast. The fan favorite Phantom Thieves return from Persona 5, plus the voices behind the game’s two new central characters have been revealed. They are Laura Post (Octopath Traveller, The Evil Within), who stars as talented gymnast and new playable party member Kasumi Yoshizawa, and Billy Kametz (3%, Marvel Avengers Academy), who plays Shujin Academy’s counselor and new confidant, Takuto Maruki. You can watch the trailer above.

Aside from the new characters, Royal differs from the original game by adding a third semester in the storyline along with extra events. There will also be new story beats towards the end of the game to help flesh out the conclusion.

Persona 5 Royal launches exclusively for PlayStation 4 in Japan on October 31, 2019 while the West will have to wait until sometime in 2020. For more on the game, check out our in-depth breakdown of the full Persona 5 Royal trailer that was revealed earlier this year.
