E3 2019: Borderlands 2 Free DLC Serves As Bridge For Borderlands 3

Confirming rumors and leaks, Gearbox announced a new expansion for Borderlands 2 that will help lay the groundwork for the upcoming Borderlands 3 during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference. “Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary” will be a free expansion for the first 30 days to anyone who already owns Borderlands 2 or The Handsome Collection–which also just so happens to be one of this month’s PlayStation Plus games, and available today through Xbox Game Pass.

In Commander Lilith, the Vault Map has been stolen and Sanctuary is under attack. You can play as Maya, Salvador, Axton, Zer0, Gaige, or Krieg from Borderlands 2 and its previous DLC expansions. The expansion adds a new original story including some returning cast members and new characters, but as always the real star is the loot. A new “Effervescent” tier has been added, which boasts high stats along with rainbow textures.

It also introduces new super rare equipment, new enemies and bosses including “Infected” enemies, a new Raid boss, new areas to explore, and an additional head and skin customization option for each character. The level cap is also being raised from 72 to 80. Those devoted to a challenge can try their mettle against two Overpowered Levels.

The DLC will be free to download until July 9, at which point it will cost $20. Gearbox doesn’t recommend starting the content until you’re level 30, but you can actually create a brand-new level 30 character in the Select Character screen to jump right into the Commander Lilith content.

Borderlands 3 is due in September, and was recently announced as a launch title for Google Stadia. Check out everything we know about Borderlands 3, and follow along with all of the press conferences.

No Forza Motorsport This Year as Turn 10 Takes Time to Innovate

Since the arrival of the original Forza Motorsport in 2005 a fresh instalment of the series has appeared every two years, like clockwork, across three generations of Xbox console hardware. However, there’ll be no Forza Motorsport 8 this year from developer Turn 10, even though it’s approaching two years since the launch of 2017’s Forza Motorsport 7.

Forza fans who have been tuning in to the team’s regular “Forza Monthly” streams have likely already surmised that this would be the case (during a stream in July 2018 Turn 10 creative director Chris Esaki stressed that, at that time, the entire team was still working on updates for Forza Motorsport 7, and in a more recent stream in March this year Forza franchise creative director Dan Greenawalt confirmed the team had only just begun shifting to a new project). Of course, the news may still come as a surprise to some folks accustomed to the bi-yearly cadence of the Forza Motorsport series.

Revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2019 press conference, the new entry is called Tales of Arise. The game was actually leaked late last week, but is now official.

Tales of Beseria came to Northa America in 2017. IGN’s Tales of Beseria review said “Tales of Berseria is a surprisingly strong showing for this long-running series. Its tragic story of broken people fighting on the wrong side of history makes it utterly compelling, and its well-tuned combat more than makes up for its lack of interesting environments.”
