Game Of Thrones: Who Won The Iron Throne?

After it all, it’s come to this: the end of Game of Thrones. With the final episode of Season 8, HBO’s fantasy epic ended the Last War with the destruction of the Lannisters, the torching of King’s Landing, and one last person to sit the Iron Throne and rule Westeros.

Of course, one final warning: There are massive spoilers for the Game of Thrones finale beyond this point. Read on at your own risk.

The finale episode resolved the conflict between Daenerys Targaryen and the rest of Westeros after her turn in King’s Landing, in which she used dragon fire to kill thousands even after the city had surrendered. Daenerys chose to rule Westeros through fear since she thought she’d never get the people’s love. Turns out, that wasn’t a great choice either, as it caused some of her most trusted allies to turn on her.

In the end, Jon Snow took matters into his own hands and killed Dany to stop her from becoming the Mad Queen. Drogon melted down the Iron Throne in his grief before bailing with Dany’s body–so while there still needs to be a monarch, there’s no longer an Iron Throne per se.

That left Jon as the last Targaryen in Westeros to rule, but assassinating a queen is something a lot of people frown upon in a ruler–to say nothing of the fact that Jon has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to rule Westeros. The survivors of the war formed a council to democratically choose a new ruler, finally landing on someone who’s highly qualified, if a little weird: Bran Stark.

With his powers of the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran is easily the wisest person in all of the Seven Kingdoms, and the fact that he has no desires at all anymore means he’s a solid choice for a leader, if you’re looking for someone who will make good decisions for all of a country’s people. Where other rulers get petty, paranoid, or vindictive, Bran’s general distance from other humans makes him pretty objective. As Tyrion dictated, from now on, there will be no succession for the throne based on heredity; instead, the lords and ladies of Westeros will choose a new leader by vote. Bran also created a strong small council of people who want to make the realm a better place, led by Tyrion Lannister as his Hand of the King. But they won’t lead the North. As Sansa said, the North will now be an independent kingdom (of which Sansa is now queen). That leaves Bran to be the king of the Six Kingdoms.

So what about Jon? As a compromise with Grey Worm and the Starks, he was sent back to the Night’s Watch and then went beyond the Wall with the Freefolk. Sansa Stark is Queen in the North, Arya Stark departed Westeros to explore the world, Grey Worm and the Dothraki headed back to Essos to free more slaves. Daenerys might be gone, but she still left behind a powerful influence, one that should lead to a better world for her people on both continents. At least, that’s the hope.

WWE Money In The Bank PPV Live Review And Results: Brock Lesnar Ruins Everything

(Ember Moon, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, Nikki Cross, Bayley, Natalya, Naomi, and Carmella)

Winner: Bayley

Mat: I already have a feeling this will be a rough night for my original predictions. Regardless, I’m so happy Nikki Cross is a part of this match. How about that Carmella moment where Mandy Rose kicked the ladder at her, which messed up her knee, and Carmella kept pushing Rose away? There were some rough spots with Rose, and a few “no sell” moments, but those were small hiccups for this match. We saw the future of the WWE women’s division, and it’s Ember Moon and Nikki Cross. Yes, Naomi was on fire as well, but she’s a time tested commodity.

Then, Carmella came back, and I was worked like a total mark. Oh well, it happens. There was never a lull in the match, and yeah, there were some sloppy spots, but I really enjoyed this. I’m just a bit confused as to what the Carmella moment was supposed to do here. Are we going feud with Mandy Rose? Bayley’s clean win was nice, even if I’m not a huge fan of what creative has done with her the past few months. She’s in need of rebuilding, and this is a great way to kick it off.

Score: 7.5/10

Original Prediction: Nikki Cross (Originally, Alexa Bliss before she was taken out)

Predictions Correct: 0/2 (0%) — Oh boy…

Chris: Of the two ladder matches, this is the one I was excited for! I’m sad Alexa Bliss wasn’t cleared to compete as I would have loved her to get the win here. That said, health is the most important thing for anyone on this roster and Nikki Cross getting a spotlight is exciting. That said, of those in the match, Bayly is the most exciting pick and I honestly hope she announces her csh-in in advance and WWE gives us a fantastic Bayley vs. Becky match. As for the match itself, this was a good ladder match! It wasn’t always clean and crisp, but what ladder match is? I appreciate that faces like Ember Moon got their chance to be showcased in the match, even in defeat. The women’s division is in an interesting place right now. After a year of Ronda Rousey dominating the conversation–and Becky Lynch dominating the ring–it’s time to build up the rest of the women’s roster to give Becky 2 Belts some serious competition in the coming months.

Score: 8/10

Original Prediction: Bayley

Predictions Correct: 1/2 (50%)

WWE Money In The Bank Final Match Results: Brock Lesnar Makes Surprise Appearance

WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV is over, and the ending of the men’s ladder match was extremely disappointing to many fans, as Brock Lesnar showed up and grabbed the briefcase hanging above the ring, winning the match. We didn’t even know he was in the match. We’re still collecting our thoughts but check out GameSpot’s review of the show.

The XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut will host this year’s event, which will have 11 matches on the card. Yes, it’s another very large card for a WWE PPV.

There are only two matches on the entire card where the winner won’t receive either a championship or a contract for a championship match. Roman Reigns takes on Elias, as both men have now moved to Smackdown and have beef with each other for some reason, and The Miz will battle Shane McMahon in a steel cage match. Miz told GameSpot during a recent interview that he’s excited to be stuck with McMahon in a cage.

Money in the Bank Match Card:

  • Daniel Bryan and Rowan vs. The Usos (Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
  • Tony Nese (c) to battle Ariya Daivari (Cruiserweight Championship)
  • Samoa Joe (c) vs. Rey Mysterio (United States Championship)
  • Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Andrade, Ricochet, Drew McIntyre, Finn Bálor, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Mustafa Ali, and Randy Orton
  • Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Ember Moon, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, Nikki Cross, Bayley, Natalya, Naomi, and Carmella

The Kickoff Show for MITB begins at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 AM BST / 8 AM AET (May 20), one hour prior to the main card.

Below, you’ll find live updates for all of the matches. This will just highlight the winners and the length of the matches, and nothing more. The Game of Thrones Finale’s Most Meta Moment

Full spoilers follow for the series finale of Game of Thrones.

A Song of Ice and Fire is the series of novels by George R.R. Martin that HBO’s Game of Thrones is based on… and we now know, in a very meta turn for the show, it’s also the masterwork in the Game of Thrones universe that tells the story of what happened in Westeros after King Robert died. So basically… it’s Game of Thrones.

Sam, who is now Grand Maester, presents the book to Tyrion during what is apparently the first meeting of the small council of the newly appointed king, Bran “the Broken” Stark. Tyrion asks what it is, to which Sam replies, “Archmaester Ebrose’s history of the wars following the death of King Robert. I… helped him with the title.”

PlayStation Was Largely Left Out Of Negotiations With Microsoft Over New Deal – Report

Last week, Microsoft and Sony made the unexpected announcement that they were laying the groundwork for a future partnership that could unite PlayStation and Xbox in some way. A new report from Bloomberg states that the news caught the PlayStation team by surprise.

The story cites people with knowledge of the situation who say Sony negotiated with Microsoft on the deal “largely without the involvement” of the PlayStation team.

“Negotiations with Microsoft began last year and were handled directly by Sony’s senior management in Tokyo, largely without the involvement of the PlayStation unit, according to people familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg reported.

“Staff at the gaming division were caught off-guard by the news. Managers had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company’s next-generation console weren’t affected, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing private matters.”

Negotiations between Microsoft and Sony began in 2018, a spokesperson for Sony said. However, the company has not publicly commented on the claim that the PlayStation team was largely left out of the negotiations.

Bloomberg’s story also claims that Sony and Amazon held discussions in 2018 to talk about the potential for a “deeper collaboration on cloud gaming.” However, the two sides could not come to terms over the business side, according to a source. After this, Sony apparently started talking to Microsoft. Amazon’s Amazon Web Services cloud computing platform powers the PlayStation Network, so Sony and Amazon were already working together. (For what it’s worth, Amazon is also reportedly planning its own future game-streaming platform)

The announcement of the Microsoft-Sony deal states that the companies will “explore joint development of future cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure to support their respective game and content-streaming services.” Additionally, Microsoft and Sony will work together to explore the possibility of Sony leveraging Microsoft’s Azure datacenters for Sony’s game and content streaming platforms.

According to the Bloomberg story, Sony realized that its own network services would not be enough to thrive in the future where cloud gaming is expected to take off, with new entrants like Google Stadia coming into the mix to compete.

“Sony feels threatened by this trend and the mighty Google, and has decided to leave its network infrastructure build-up to Microsoft,” Asymmetric Advisors strategist Amir Anvarzadeh told Bloomberg. “Why would they sleep with the enemy unless they feel threatened?”

For what it’s worth, the press release announcing the deal between Microsoft and Sony only mentions PlayStation by name once.

Microsoft’s new game-streaming service is in the works under the working title xCloud. Sony has its own PlayStation Now streaming service that’s been running for years already.

Despite no official announcement being made, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny has begun to talk about the PlayStation 5. Microsoft is also working on a next-generation Xbox, and it’s expected to be announced at E3 in June.
