True Detective Season 3 Theories From Episodes 1 and 2

Two More Mission Impossible Movies Coming From Fallout Director

After the big success of 2018’s Mission Impossible: Fallout, director Christopher McQuarrie is signing on to write and direct two sequels, according to a new report. Not only that, but Variety’s report claims the sequels will shoot back-to-back so they can be released sooner to capitalise on the hype surrounding the franchise right now.

According to the report, the first would premiere in summer 2021 with the next one following a year later. McQuarrie seemingly confirmed the news on Twitter.

Shooting back-to-back is not new for movies, as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were shot one after the other so they could be released in 2018 and 2019. All three of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies were shot in the manner, too.

Mission Impossible: Fallout, which starred a 56-year-old Tom Cruise, was a massive success commercially and critically. It made more than $791 million worldwide, which represented the biggest box office performance in the history of the Mission Impossible series. It was also well-received by critics, notching a franchise-best 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes; it was heralded as one of the best action movies of 2018.

According to Variety, the first of the sequels may start shooting in 2019. Cruise is currently filming the Top Gun sequel, while McQuarrie is keeping busy too, as he’s set to direct the new Rainbow Six movie Without Remorse starring Michael B. Jordan.

Presumably Cruise will return for the two Mission Impossible sequels, but there is no word yet on the story or what other actors may join him.

Michelle Yeoh Gets Star Trek: Discovery Spin-Off Series

There’s more pre-Kirk Star Trek on the way for fans of Star Trek: Discovery. CBS has officially announced a spin-off from its streaming-only series, which will follow Michelle Yeoh’s character from Season 1 and her exploits as part of the Federation’s secret intelligence agency, Section 31.

CBS announced that the spin-off, which is currently untitled, will air exclusively on CBS All Access, the same as Discovery. It sounds as if the new series will take place after the events of Discovery Season 2, which looks to expand on the exploits of Yeoh’s character, Philippa Georgiou.

“The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment,” the announcement states. “Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers. Aaron Baiers will serve as co-executive producer along with Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt will also write the series.”

Spinning off a series about Georgiou is going to give Star Trek latitude to explore some of the more interesting aspects of Discovery. The first season saw the titular Federation starship and its crew finding its way into the Mirror Universe, the dark alternate reality that has shown up in a bunch of the Star Trek series. Yeoh played both the Georgiou in the Federation universe, who was killed in Discovery’s pilot episode, and the Mirror Universe side. At the end of Season 1, the more violent, slightly evil Mirror Universe version was brought back to the Federation side.

The spin-off series will find her as part of Section 31, a clandestine Federation intelligence agency that operates outside the bounds of the rest of the space government. Given Georgiou’s predilection for violence and scheming, she should fit right in–but it sounds like this will be a darker look at the Star Trek universe.

“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” Yeoh said in the announcement. “Being a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes–certainly, I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!'”

This will be CBS’s fourth Star Trek show: Also in the works are a series about Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard, with Sir Patrick Stewart returning to the role, and Star Trek: Lower Decks, an animated comedy series from Rick and Morty executive producer Mike McMahan.

Meanwhile, it sounds like we’ll be learning more about Georgiou in Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, which premieres on CBS All Access on January 17.

Fortnite Update Bringing Glider Redeploy Back, With A Big Change

Fortnite flirted with an deployable glider that would let you soar across the battlefield in style, but quickly ended the test feature. Now it’s back as an item, with a handful of changes that Epic says should make the glider fulfill its intended purpose.

Starting with the v7.20 patch, the Glider Redeploy will take up an inventory slot and be discoverable as a normal piece of loot in chests, vending machines, and supply llamas. You don’t need to select the item, but it will use up charges and then disappear once all the charges have been used. Using Launch Pads, Rifts, and LTM respawns won’t use a charge.

“There was a very split response on the mechanic which revealed some positives as well as some negatives,” Epic said in the update detailing the changes. “We removed the mechanic from default modes, but feel an alternative implementation will help in solving some of those negatives and better suits our goals.”

It says that the goal is to provide “mobility and utility” but to make sure it’s balanced and can be iterated on. The new changes aim to give the studio more flexibility for iteration going forward. For Soaring 50s or other large-team modes, you’ll automatically start with a Glider with 50 charges.

We’re in the midst of Season 7 of Fortnite, so if you need some help earning this season’s cosmetics while you play with the new glider, check out our challenge guide. Just recently Fortnite changed another aerial vehicle, with an update that nerfed the plane.

WWE Royal Rumble 2019: Match Card, Date, And Location

WWE’s yearly event, the Royal Rumble, is almost here. It has one of the most interesting matches of the year, where 30 participants enter the ring, one by one, and have to eliminate each other until there is only one superstar left standing. The winner of the event gets to challenge their brand’s champion at Wrestlemania, so the stakes are high.

This year’s Royal Rumble is coming to PPV and the WWE Network live on Sunday, January 27 at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, with a Kickoff Show starting two hours prior. Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona will host the event, and you can still pick up tickets if you’re interested. Single tickets are going for as cheap as $36 as of this writing, but the prices will fluctuate as we get closer to the event.

While it’s still a couple weeks away, there are currently eight matches on the card, and there could be a few more added, two of which should be on the Kickoff Show. Brock Lesnar returns to hopefully lose the Universal Championship to Braun Strowman, so WWE fans can finally have a fighting champ that actually shows up weekly. And if you think I’m being a bit salty, talk to any WWE fan about the Universal Championship, and they’ll probably say the same thing.

However, there is plenty to be excited about for this year’s PPV. Aside from both the men’s and women’s rumble matches, which are the most fun thing WWE produces every year, Becky Lynch gets a rematch for the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Asuka. Pokemon Go Hoenn Event Announced, Features Gen 3 Pokemon And Legendaries

Pokemon Go‘s ongoing Adventure Sync Hatchathon may be coming to an end soon, but a new event is set to kick off immediately afterward. Beginning January 15, Niantic will hold a two-week-long celebration of the Hoenn region, featuring a ton of Pokemon originally from Ruby and Sapphire.

Throughout the event, Gen 3 Pokemon such as Numel, Zigzagoon, and Taillow will spawn much more frequently in the wild. On top of that, players will have a chance to encounter Shiny forms of Zigzagoon and Taillow, while any Shroomish that evolve into Breloom during the event will know the Grass-type attack Grass Knot.

Raid Battles will also feature Gen 3 Pokemon, including the Legendaries Groudon and Kyogre. Gen 3 Pokemon will be much more likely to hatch from 7 km Eggs during the event as well. There will also be new Field Research tasks themed around Gen 3 Pokemon.

Rounding out the celebration, Niantic will offer new avatar items based on Team Aqua and Team Magma–the villainous teams from Ruby and Sapphire–in the game’s Style Shop. The Hoenn event is scheduled to end on January 29. You can read more details on the Pokemon Go website.

On top of the Hoenn celebration, Niantic is hosting a new Limited Research event this Saturday, January 19. Much like a Community Day, it will only run in each region for three hours. During this time, players will be able to get special Limited Research tasks from PokeStops, each of which ends with an encounter with Feebas.

Steam Outlines Plan For Improvements In 2019

Valve has announced its plans for Steam in 2019 and beyond. The PC game store isn’t ready to reveal the exact details behind each upcoming change, but it has announced enough to give us a basic idea of what to expect in the future.

The biggest planned change seems to be for game discoverability on the Steam Store. “We’re working on a new recommendation engine powered by machine-learning, that can match players to games based on their individual tastes,” Steam revealed in a blog post. The post went on to add that discovery algorithms would only be a part of the new process for recommending games to players. New “broadcasting and curating features” are under development as well.

Steam also announced plans for upgrading its events system, so that players would be able to more easily discover “interesting activities” associated to the games they play, such as tournaments or streams. Expansions and changes to both Steam Library and Steam TV are in the works as well.

In terms of brand-new content, Steam is planning on shipping Steam Chat, a mobile app that will allow you to “share your favorite GIFs with your friends while on the go.” Counter-Strike: Global Offensive‘s Trusted Matchmaking is also being expanded to all other games with the new Steam Trust. Steam has revealed plans for opening “hundreds of thousands” of PC cafes around the world too, and the PC store is partnering with Perfect World to help bring Steam to China.

The latter half of 2018 saw Steam face new competition with the emergence of the Epic Games Store. Epic promised a more lucrative cut for developers that launched their games on its store, especially for titles made with Unreal Engine. To entice players, Epic secured several exclusive games, including titles that were originally scheduled to launch on Steam like The Division 2. Going into 2019, Epic Games didn’t let up the pressure on its competitor, offering a free game every two weeks for anyone using its store and also changing its refund policy to match Steam’s.

Alienware has redesigned its m15 (See it on Dell’s site) gaming laptop, and is seemingly taking on its own line of laptops now, specifically the 13″ model in the same family. I say that because this 15″ laptop is 14 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than the Alienware 13, despite having a 15.6-inch display. The m15 is also the thinnest Alienware laptop the company has ever released.
