Every Far Cry Review

It looks like Ubisoft is about to announce the 11th Far Cry game since the series began 14 years ago, and this one looks to be taking aim at Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic wheelhouse by possibly launching around the same time as Rage 2 (and not long after Fallout 76 cratered). Just like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon followed Far Cry 3 and Far Cry Primal followed Far Cry 4, this followup is coming hot on the heels of Far Cry 5, which came out only nine months ago. That’s a whole lot of Far Cry in not a lot of time, but based on the series’ mostly consistent quality, that’s hard to complain about.

As you refresh your memory by scrolling through our history of IGN’s Far Cry reviews, let us know which cries stand out in your mind as the farthest.

Pixio PX329 Gaming Monitor Review

Be sure to visit IGN Tech for all the latest comprehensive hands-on reviews and best-of roundups. Note that if you click on one of these links to buy the product, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.

Pixio takes a similar approach with gaming monitors as Aldi does with groceries: put the product in a no-frills package and sell it at a budget price. With the Pixio PX329 (See it on Amazon), you get a flat 32-inch VA panel with 1440p resolution and a refresh rate up to 165Hz. It also supports FreeSync, but you are forced to choose between the 165Hz refresh rate and AMD’s adaptive frame syncing technology, which tops out at 144Hz. At just $400 (street) it’s crazy affordable for a 32-inch gaming monitor, but what about its performance? Let’s get to the review.

DC’s New Shazam! Series Brings the Thunder

Shazam! #1 is a long time in coming. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank first set the stage for an ongoing series half a decade ago when they collaborated on a series of backup features in the New 52 Justice League comic. While Shazam himself eventually joined the Justice League, his solo comic never materialized, and readers never got to read the continued adventures of the new Shazam Family or villains like Doctor Sivana. Thankfully, this belated relaunch is a clear case of “better late than never.”

It’s probably just as well that the new series didn’t debut sooner. As solid a foundation as those Shazam! backups laid, there was also something slightly off about the portrayal of Billy Batson and his supporting cast. Like so many New 52 projects, Shazam had an unnecessarily harder edge, one that really doesn’t suit a character as goofy and all-age friendly as Billy Batson. If anything, Shazam #1 reads like a comic that could only exist in the relatively more lighthearted DC Rebirth era. Johns’ current take still retains a bit of the previous darkness in terms of the rough background for characters like Mary and Freddie, but he also shows an increased willingness to embrace the campy Golden Age roots of the franchise. Whatever surly meanness Billy Batson might have had in the New 52 has largely melted away.
