Star Wars Episode IX: Lando Calrissian Returning

Star Wars: Episode IX will see the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian.

THR reports Williams will make his long-awaited return to a galaxy far, far away as the beloved, smooth-talking smuggler. However, there’s no word yet on how big Williams’ role will be in the upcoming mainline Star Wars film.

Williams made his debut as Lando in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). Donald Glover recently portrayed a younger version of the character in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Coldest Known Temperature on Earth Discovered

A recent satellite measurement just revealed the coldest known place on Earth, and its temperature sits at -144°F.

According to National Geographic, the temperature was recorded by scientists on an ice sheet in the middle of Antarctica during the long, dark winter. A report in Geophysical Research Letters said the team thinks that is close to being as cold as it can possibly get in our area of the solar system.

Ted Scambos, a researcher at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado said, “It’s a place where Earth is so close to its limit, it’s almost like another planet.”

FLCL: Progressive Episode 6 Review

Warning: The following review has complete spoilers for FLCL: Progressive Episode 6.

After an uneven season, FLCL: Progressive’s finale “Our Running” has finally arrived. Coming off the heels of two fantastic episodes I was hoping Progressive might carry that momentum into a stellar finale. Sadly, Progressive can’t keep up that energy and instead delivers us a relatively muted finale with few memorable moments and almost none of the closure I had hoped for.

“Our Running” picks up right where the previous episode left off, with Haruko’s longtime quarry Atomsk arriving just as the war between Medical Mechanica and Interstellar Immigration begins. As Haruko springs her trap to capture Atomsk, Hidomi pleads with her to release Ide and let them leave in peace. Haruko waves off this idea and instead tells Hidomi and the only way she will get what she wants is by taking it. Haruko has always been a bit of a corruptive force in the FLCL universe, but hearing her outright admit it is oddly satisfying. Knowing her mentality with regards to relationships certainly makes it easier to understand her more deranged behavior in Progressive, and it’s also important for a pivotal scene later in this episode.

Fox Shareholder Sues to Terminate Disney Acquisition

Shortly after winning U.S. antitrust approval, a Fox shareholder has filed a lawsuit to stop the acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s studio assets to Disney.

According to THR, Robert Weiss, who is leading other Fox shareholders, filed his complaint on Friday in Delaware in regards to what was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission about the deal.

The lawsuit alleges that a proxy statement that was filed on June 28 omits or misrepresents the company’s financial projections and any fundamental data valuation analyses from Goldman Sachs and Centerview Partners. The complaint also mentions concern over lack of disclosure relating to any potential conflicts of interest with Goldman Sachs.

Nova Explained: What Is the Rumored Marvel Movie?

It’s clear that Marvel movie fans can expect a lot of new faces in the MCU in the coming years. And rumor has it that could include Nova, an ordinary teenager granted amazing cosmic powers and recruited into the peacekeeping force known as the Nova Corps.

With signs pointing to Nova possibly getting his own Marvel movie in the near future, we figure it was time to break down everything you need to know about this character, the Corps, and the important role they play in the Marvel Universe.

Nova Explained: The Basics

Nova is a member of the Nova Corps, a group of heroes who can be best summed up as the Marvel Universe’s answer to the Green Lantern Corps. Each of these space cops is given access to the powerful Nova Force and charged with defending the galaxy from all manner of threats. All members of the Nova Corps carry a rank, whether they’re low-level Corpsmen, elite soldiers known as Centurions or the all-powerful Nova Prime. Each of these soldiers is guided by the Xandarian Worldmind, a sentient computer containing all the knowledge and wisdom of centuries’ worth of Nova Corps soldiers.

How Steven Universe Became This Decade’s Avatar: The Last Airbender

Massive mega-armies to oppose the heroes. A rich, ever-expanding lore. A warm, delightfully silly sense of humor rooted in character. A forward-thinking approach to inclusion and equality. Meaty, progressive themes. A strong message of love. Avatar: The Last Airbender ran just three seasons from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon, but the DNA of its storytelling and heart effortlessly wove these qualities together to create something that, for the kids and adults alike who absorbed it, became a saga worthy of standing next to Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Less than two weeks out from the ten-year anniversary of The Last Airbender’s series finale (the epic “Sozin’s Comet” aired July 19, 2008), another animated series that’s just as talented at weaving those qualities together broke boundaries with a collection of episodes that will surely go on to define the series. Not only did last week’s group of Steven Universe episodes change the direction of its epic, sprawling saga, it aired both same-sex proposal and wedding episodes, something unheard of in animated television. Bursting with dynamic action and raw emotion, it’s become clear that Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe has filled the space that Avatar: The Last Airbender left vacant a decade ago.
