Xbox Avatars Update Coming Next Month

Xbox announced deeper customizations with Avatars during the Inside Xbox live stream.

The focus was for avatars to become more inclusive, expressive, and creative for users to be able to further customize.

The new avatar system takes the old one to an entirely different level.

A photo booth will be available to take photos of your avatar with an adjustable camera to tilt, zoom and rotate. Customized background prints will be able to be a part of your photo, with the possibility of then using that image as your gamer pic.

Collaborations with Halo, Gears of War and other games will come out as well, along with plenty of new accessories.

Xbox Announces Mouse and Keyboard Support

During today’s Inside Xbox livestream, Phil Spencer announced that mouse and keyboard support is coming to Xbox One.

https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/25/xbox-keyboard-and-mouse-support-on-the-way

It will be on Xbox Preview in October, and will be initially tested on Warframe. The idea behind mouse and keyboard support will be as a tool for developers, so they can choose how they want the control style integrated, if they want it integrated at all.

More information on mouse and keyboard support will be coming during the returning XO18 fan event in Mexico City on November 10. There is currently no news when this feature will be rolling out for all developers and gamers, but expect news along these lines during XO18, and for more on the exclusive Microsoft and Razer partnership for mouse and keyboard support.

The next generation of Nvidia graphics cards are here, and the good news is they live up to the hype. Don’t believe me? Check out our Nvidia RTX 2080 review or our Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti review to see what we thought, as well as look over those 4K benchmarks, possibly with your mouth agape. They’re real good cards, is what I’m saying. However, they’re also hard to come by.

The Convoluted History of Star Trek: Discovery’s Captain Pike Explained

Star Trek: Discovery is currently filming its second season for CBS All Access with an expected premiere date sometime in early 2019. Fans were left hanging when the first season ended with a stunning tease as the Discovery found itself face to face with the USS Enterprise. The famous ship’s arrival naturally led to the assumption (which was later confirmed) that we’d be meeting a younger version of lead character Michael Burnham’s adoptive brother Spock, who we now know will be played by Ethan Peck.

But since Discovery takes place about 10 years before the events of Captain Kirk’s The Original Series adventures on the Enterprise, the current commanding officer of the ship is Captain Christopher Pike (played by Inhumans’ Anson Mount on Discovery), who Trek history tells us helmed the Enterprise just before James Kirk took over. Though Pike only played a minor role in The Original Series in its final form (more on that in a moment), the character has endured across several films and television series and has been portrayed by four different actors to date. So let’s take a moment to get to know the first commanding officer of the Enterprise to give the order, “Engage!”

FLCL: Alternative Episode 3 Review

Spoilers for the episode follow.

The slow burn stylings of FLCL: Alternative continue with “Freestyle Collection.” Following the blueprint laid out by the previous episode, Freestyle Collection takes a closer look at Mossan through the lens of Kana’s constant struggle with her future prospects.

The episode kicks off when Kana, having not turned in her college planning sheet, inquires about what Mossan wrote down for hers. Mossan tells her friends about her dream of being a fashion designer and reveals she has made it through the first round of a fashion design contest. Unlike Hijiri’s fling from the last episode, which felt a little par for her character, Mossan’s reveal was actually a surprise to me and had me interested from the start. Mossan’s reveal also provided a great opportunity to add to Kana’s maturity crisis which has become one of the show’s main threads.
