Netflix’s Apostle Review

This is an advance review out of Fantastic Fest. Apostle premieres exclusively on Netflix on October 12.

For his fifth full-length feature, Apostle, Gareth Evans has traded the pulse-pounding action thrills and exceptional martial arts acrobatics of The Raid for full blown folk horror with this grim, nasty and gnarly story about a religious cult in the early 20th century.

The story follows Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens), an ex-priest and the long-lost son of a wealthy man who returns home to find that his sister was kidnapped by a cult and is being held for ransom on a remote island. Thomas takes it upon himself to infiltrate the cult and rescue her before the cult’s sinister plans can come to fruition.

Acer has expanded its Predator product line with the a new flagship headset named the Galea 500 (See it on Amazon). It’s a premium wired USB headset made for PC gaming, and the most interesting feature is its inclusion of Acer’s TrueHarmony 3D sound. The company claims it offers a more immersive experience than rival surround sound technologies, so I spent a considerable amount of time wearing these cans to find out what the headset is like for gaming, and if its 3D sound was really all that.

Destiny 2 Players Think They’ve Found Part of the Malfeasance Quest

The Malfeasance hand cannon has eluded Destiny 2 players since the beginning of Forsaken, but it looks like a portion of the quest that involves it has been discovered by some fans.

Reported by Forbes, this exotic weapon has been a mystery for some time, as players can currently obtain ornaments for it, and it was even advertised before the expansion came out. Well, some players might have found part of the quest that eventually leads to the weapon, though nobody has found the weapon or properly started the quest yet.

Batwoman Explained: How the Batman Love Interest Became a LGBTQ Icon

There’s a major new player joining The CW’s Arrowverse in this fall’s big crossover. Ruby Rose will make her debut as Batwoman this December, paving the way for a possible spin-off series featuring Gotham’s *other* major superhero protector.

But who is Batwoman, and what is her connection to Batman? And what’s the difference between Batwoman and Batgirl, anyway? Scroll down to learn everything you need to know about this important DC heroine.

Batwoman Explained: The Basics

First things first. Batwoman is not the same character as Batgirl. Where characters like Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain are more sidekicks to Batman than true peers, the modern version of Batwoman, Kate Kane, is a fully independent heroine motivated by her own tragic past and with her own resources to bring to bear in defense of Gotham City.

The Purge Invites You to the Carnival of Flesh

The Purge franchise is about to unveil its most madcap muder-scape ever.

Throughout the films and TV series we’ve seen harrowing hunting grounds, subway tunnels of doom, and even gruesome gauntlets sponsored by local car dealerships. But now, on Tuesday’s brand new episode of The Purge, titled “Release the Beast,” we’ll all bear witness to the Carnival of Flesh!

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more diabolical for Penelope (Jessica Garza) and her busload of cultists offering themselves to local Purgers, she’s been taken by collectors (in creepy nun masks) and plunged headlong into the “McDonald’s of the Purge.”

I visited the production of The Purge series this past August and got to set foot inside the Carnival of Flesh. Flip through some of the wickedness I caught on camera below…

Devil May Cry 5 Has Multiplayer and Microtransactions

A TGS demo and PlayStation Store listing have revealed Devil May Cry 5 will have both microtransactions and some form of online multiplayer.

Fans have been able to play DMC 5 at TGS 2018 this week, which led Gamespot to notice that players can pay real world money to purchase the series’ in-game currency, red orbs.

The orbs, which traditionally are never abundant enough to unlock absolutely everything, are used to purchase upgrades to weapons, new moves and one-off consumables.

When asked why these were being included, series director Hideaki Itsuno said it was all about player choice. “With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it’s something we want to give people as an option. If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that.”
