Despite a boom in popularity last month, Twitch has been blocked from China.
Users who wish to download the Twitch app in China will find themselves disappointed as the app has been removed from respective mobile app stores. Likewise, trying to access Twitch through a web browser will simply not connect you to the website.
Last month, the Twitch app in China saw huge success when it became the third most downloaded free app on the iOS App Store. The sudden rush of downloads and viewers can primarily be attributed to the Asian Games, an esports event where Twitch was the most popular way to watch.
Why the block? There is no clear answer but according to Abacus, some Chinese users believe this is the government cracking down on the country’s gaming addiction issues. Others believe it is another form of limiting free speech.

Actor-director Jordan Peele will host (and presumably narrate) the new Twilight Zone TV show. He confirmed this in a new video that begins with original host Rod Serling’s voice before morphing into Peele’s. Serling wrote and hosted the original Twilight Zone TV show, and he leaves enormous shoes to fill.
Peele is also producing the new Twilight Zone TV show, which will premiere on CBS All Access in 2019. You can check out the eerie first teaser in the video embed above.
Sons of Anarchy and Daredevil writer Marco Ramirez is attached to write the script and lead the show as its showrunner.
The Emmy-winning show originally ran from 1959-1964, before being revived in the 1980s and early 2000s; there was also a movie. The Twilight Zone rights at held by CBS, which owns GameSpot.
While we now have some more details about the new Twilight Zone, that’s about all we know. There is word as of yet as to who will star in the show, or if it will be an anthology series like the original.
Many famous actors appeared on the first iteration of The Twilight Zone, including Ed Wynn, William Shatner, Cloris Leachman, Don Rickles, and Robert Duvall, among many others.
A Massachusetts teacher has turned himself in after he sent his daughter inside a toy machine to steal Nintendo systems and other prizes earlier this week.
According to the Union Leader, the man was identified as Anthony Helinski after a video of the theft went viral late last week. In it, the man can be seen retrieving items from the opening at the bottom of the machine where the daughter had managed to crawl inside. Prizes inside the KeyMaster machine at the Mall at Rockingham Park included a Nintendo Switch and what one witness called a “Gameboy DS.”
Although the much-requested cloud saves system is coming to Switch, there’s apparently a pretty big catch. If you ever stop paying for an online subscription for your Switch, Nintendo won’t hold on to your save data and it will be deleted.
According to an FAQ page on Nintendo’s website, “Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership.” Nintendo then adds that if you keep your save data stored “locally on your Nintendo Switch console, then you can use it again if you purchase another membership.”
So if you do buy a subscription, it might be in your best interest to also keep your most important game data saved on your console because if there’s ever a problem with your subscription payment, you’ll probably lose your saves. It’s also worth noting that not all games will support cloud saves–like Pokemon, Let’s Go Pikachu!/Eevee and Splatoon 2–so depending on what you play, you might not be able to completely rely on Nintendo’s online storage to begin with.
Nintendo’s online membership can be continuously maintained through automatic renewal. All subscriptions will renew automatically unless you select the “Terminate Automatic Renewal” choice in the Account Information settings. Renewal rates are determined by your latest online membership purchase. If you buy a three month membership and then buy one for 12 months, your account will automatically renew every 12 months.
The FAQ page details a few other clarifications from the other services that relate to a Nintendo Switch Online membership. If you’re playing in an online party with a group who’s using voice chat, you won’t be automatically added to the voice chat group. You’ll be asked beforehand whether or not you want to participate in the group’s voice chat when you first join the party. Also, you’ll only need one online membership for your family of Switch consoles provided all of your consoles are linked to the same account.
Product listings for Devil May Cry 5 appear to have revealed a feature that Capcom itself hasn’t announced yet. The game listings on Steam, the Xbox Store, and the PlayStation Store all list an online multiplayer component. The Xbox and PlayStation listings specify that it’s for 2-3 players, while Steam says that it’s co-op play.
“With Devil May Cry 5, we are focused on delivering a complete single-player action experience,” a Capcom spokesperson told GameSpot.” “No multiplayer features have been announced.”
DMC5 isn’t due out until March 2019, and Capcom has been slowly revealing more information since it debuted at E3 this year. The company could have been planning a more official reveal for the online co-op. So far Capcom has tied announcements to each of the three big press conferences. At Gamescom it announced a release date alongside a new trailer, and then a Deluxe Edition announced just this week at the Tokyo Game Show.
This Devil May Cry is very pointedly a direct sequel to 2008’s Devil May Cry 4. Capcom attempted to reboot the series in 2013 with DmC: Devil May Cry. That game was critically successful but divisive for fans, which is likely why this one is going back to its roots.
As it happens, the Steam listing also revealed another important tidbit of information for avid demon hunters: the PC system requirements. You can check those out below.

Red Dead Redemption 2‘s multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, is beginning to come into focus. It appears to be borrowing from the highly successful model that Rockstar employed with Grand Theft Auto V‘s online mode, GTA, in that fans can expect an expansive, open-ended playground filled with activities. Red Dead Online will also get regular updates to help players coming back–and presumably spending money. GTA Online has been a revenue juggernaut for parent publisher Take-Two, and while there are no solid details yet on how Red Dead Online will monetize players, you can absolutely expect microtransactions to factor in.
We spoke with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter about Red Dead Online and its revenue potential. He said he expects the game to be successful from a money perspective, though he doubts it will match GTA Online. That’s no surprise. With 95 million copies solid, GTA V is one of the most successful games in history, and that kind of success is unlikely to be repeated, especially for a relatively smaller brand like Red Dead. Even Take-Two itself does not believe Red Dead Redemption 2 will sell as well as GTA V.

Still, Red Dead Online is expected to be a big-time money-maker. Pachter said said he believes the game can bring in around $10 per user each year. If the game sells 25 million copies, it could have 10-15 million monthly active users for Red Dead Online, which, assuming $10 per user, would come out to as much as $150 million per year in recurring revenue.
That is short of GTA Online’s revenue, but it’s still a massive figure. Not only that, but the margins on microtransactions are excellent, and all of this is on top of the $60 or more people will pay for the game itself.
“I think RDR Online will certainly be successful,” Pachter said. “Revenues from GTA Online peaked at around $125 million in the December quarter, and are still around $100 million per quarter through three quarters this year, so GTA Online is annualizing around $400 – 500 million per year five years after it initially launched.”
“I doubt that RDR Online will generate [as much revenue per user as GTA Online], but think that $10 per user per year is likely (similar to what we see from Hearthstone, Overwatch, League of Legends and Fortnite),” Pachter added. “My skepticism is clearly uninformed, as they may make this the best online experience of all, but I think that the setting makes success at that level less likely. Nothing wrong with the old West, but it isn’t as compelling as riding your helicopter to your nuclear bomb facility that was funded from your meth lab.”
As Pachter notes, one of the big questions for Red Dead Online is how many users it has. That is tricky to predict, but it’s a safe assumption that many will try the mode, with a smaller–but still significant–subset spending money on extra content.
In GTA Online, players can spend money on GTA$, which they can then spend on in-game extras. It remains to be seen how microtransactions work in Red Dead Online, but given how wildly successful GTA Online has been and continues to be, you can bet that Rockstar will further emphasise and encourage extra spending with the western.
Red Dead Online launches in the form of a public beta November, following Red Dead Redemption 2’s release on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
“Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players,” Rockstar says about Red Dead Online.
A landscape of darkness, the distance muzzle flashes of a shootout. Violence, brutality. The Sisters Brothers opens like many westerns before it, but then it spirals into oddball directions as two lowly, dangerous, comic relief henchmen take center stage and throw the rest of the genre into sharp relief.
John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix star as Eli and Charlie Sisters, two hired guns working for an unseen commodore, who sends them on a quest spanning the American west in 1851. Their boss wants them to track down a chemist, Hermann Kermit Warm (Riz Ahmed), who may have developed a chemical that could change the mining industry forever.
It’s a simple mission, on the surface. Another of the commodore’s agents, John Morris (Jake Gyllenhaal), has tracked the scientist down. All the Sisters Brothers need to do is catch up, torture the formula out of him, and go home. But if you want to make god laugh, as the old story goes, just make a plan; the Sisters Brothers wind up sidetracked by spiders, thunderstorms, bears, treachery, greed, and the ingrained dysfunctions in their own relationship.
With production slated to begin in early 2019, Warner Bros. is reportedly considering the following actresses to star alongside Margot Riobbie’s Harley Quinn in their DC Comics movie Birds of Prey.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has screen-tested Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Cloverfield Paradox, Black Mirror’s “San Junipero” episode) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (True Blood, Underground) for the role of the sonic-screaming vigilante Black Canary.
“Hidden Figures star Janelle Monae was also said to be in the running but it is unclear if she tested for the role,” THR adds.
