Xbox and Make-A-Wish have partnered with actors, musicians, athletes, game developers, and internet celebrities to raise money for charity with a huge assortment of one-of-a-kind, customized Xbox One X consoles.

The initiative, called Consoles for Kids, brings together Microsoft and some of the biggest names in entertainment to create a wide array of Xbox One X consoles personally autographed – and in some cases bundled with other cool giveaways – to auction off with 100% of the proceeds going to charity.

Our Sneak Peek at Netflix’s Maniac Will Probably Just Confuse You

This September, IGN is highlighting the best TV coming your way in the 2018-2019 season. Today, we’re venturing into the unpredictable world of Maniac, Netflix’s new 10-part limited series from The Leftovers scribe Patrick Somerville and True Detective Season 1 helmer Cary Fukunaga. The show stars Emma Stone as Annie Landsberg and Jonah Hill as Owen Milgrim, two strangers drawn to the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial. Justin Theroux also delivers a scene-stealing turn as the creator of a new kind of pill that “claims to repair anything about the mind, be it mental illness or heartbreak, with no complications or side-effects whatsoever.” (Naturally, you can expect plenty of complications and side-effects.) Maniac debuts Sept. 21 on Netflix.

Advance Review of Netflix’s Roma

This is an advance review out of the Toronto International Film Festival. Roma will debut on Netflix later this year.

Roger Ebert once wrote that “movies are like a machine that generates empathy,” and nothing encapsulates that sentiment better than Roma. Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón has traded the epic vastness of space for an intimate story about his own childhood and the women who raised him. Whether you grew up in a similar situation, or just have a beating heart, Roma pulls all the right strings at the right moments to make you feel like you’ve known this family your whole life.

Cuarón says Roma is 90% based on his own childhood, and based on the level of detail and care, it shows. We follow a chapter in the life of Cleo (first-time actress and breakout star Yalitza Aparicio), a housekeeper in the titular middle-class neighborhood Roma, in Mexico City during the early ‘70s. She works for a family of three boys and a girl. Cleo is more than just a maid, more often than not acting as a surrogate mother to the children in the absence of their parents. She tucks the children in at night, helps them get dressed, and makes sure they get to school on time. She also has the patience of a saint, as when the parents are actually in the house, they are a constant reminder that Cleo is not really a part of their family. While they are kind to her, she is still only “the help”. While Latin-Americans will especially identify with the relationship between housekeepers and the families they work for, Cuarón makes sure that no matter your life experiences, you will still care for this family.

Life Gets Even Worse for Batman

PUBG Looks like It’s Finally Heading to PS4

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for PlayStation 4 has been spotted on the Korean ratings board website, signalling a future announcment.

Almost a year after Bluehole was “in talks with Sony” about the possibility of a PUBG PS4 release, Twitter user Nibellion has spied the title listed over on the Korean ratings board, suggesting that the game will finally be launching on Sony’s console.

Like clockwork, Nvidia has announced a new architecture for its GPUs, and it’s debuting it in a range of Founder’s Edition graphics cards that feature an all-new design befitting a new direction for the company. While the RTX 2080 could be considered the standard card in the 20XX-series lineup, the RTX 2080 Ti is the top dog in terms of raw performance (and its unusually high $1,200 price tag). All of the new GPUs from Nvidia feature specialized “Turing” hardware that will allow them to eventually offer features like real-time ray tracing and artificial intelligence-powered super sampling, so there’s more to this GPU than just sheer horsepower. I’ve spent the past week putting it through its paces, so let’s dive in.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Founder’s Edition Review

Nvidia’s all-new 20-series GPUs have finally arrived, with the company announcing three models so far: the RTX 2080, the beefier RTX 2080 Ti, and the more affordable RTX 2070 (which is coming further down the road). Today I’m looking at the RTX 2080 Founder’s Edition, which is the successor to Nvidia’s popular GTX 1080 card. Built on Nvidia’s new Turing architecture, this graphics card promises increased performance over Pascal along with all-new hardware that enables real-time ray tracing and an all-new version of AI-assisted super sampling (in the future). I spent the last few days with this GPU putting it through its paces, and here’s my full report, including benchmarks in a variety of today’s popular PC games.

Captain Marvel Trailer Features Iconic Secret Invasion Scene

The new trailer for Captain Marvel gives a brief look at the film’s shape-shifting villains known as the Skrulls, but if you look closely, a single shot pays homage to the aliens’ most iconic comic book story, Secret Invasion. The tale saw the Avengers learn that the Skrulls had not only infiltrated their ranks but had replaced key individuals across the entire planet, and then they were forced to fight the invaders in an epic struggle to reclaim the earth.

The whole story kicked off when Elektra was killed in battle and, to everyone’s shock, her body morphed into that of a green Skrull. The surprising moment made the remaining heroes ask themselves an unnerving question: If Elektra was replaced without anyone knowing, then who else could be a Skrull? This difficult conversation began when the Avengers’ greatest scientific minds were inspecting the Skrull corpse:

WWE 2K19 Soundtrack Includes Eminem, Metallica, Post Malone, And Other Huge Names

2K Sports has announced the soundtrack for WWE 2K19, and it includes some very big names from across a number of different genres. Some of the artists featured on the soundtrack include Eminem, Fall Out Boy, Metallica, Slipknot, Rancid, and Post Malone.

The songs were chosen by WWE athletes like The Miz, Elias, Triple H, and Daniel Bryan, among others. The songs are apparently some of their favourite songs to listen to when getting ready for a match or chilling at home (and they’re also the songs that 2K was able to get the licenses for). You can se the full soundtrack below.

While WWE 2K19 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in early October. It is skipping out on a Switch edition this year. The regular edition launches on October 9, but the more expensive Deluxe “Woo” Edition lets you play four days early.

Why Loot Boxes And Microtransactions Can Be Such A Problem – Steam Punks

On the latest episode of GameSpot’s weekly PC-focused show, Steam Punks, hosts Jess McDonell and Edmond Tran discuss the ever-controversial topic of microtransactions and loot boxes in video games.

Microtransactions are commonplace in games big and small–in fact, it is oftentimes more surprising and newsworthy today when a game does not feature a microtransaction or loot box system. Why do such systems exist and how do they impact a game’s perception and value? Jess and Ed discuss these topics and more in the new episode, which you can watch above.

The topic of loot boxes in video games made international headlines in 2017 when EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II allowed players to pay for loot boxes, which contained items that impact gameplay. Many saw this as a form of gambling, and EA removed the game-affecting loot boxes on the eve of the game’s public release. EA reinstated microtransactions in early 2018, but there was a big change: only cosmetic items would be included with loot boxes. Belgium enacted a law recently that classified loot boxes as a form of gambling, and while Activision removed Overwatch’s loot boxes in Belgium, EA is staying the course and might go to court over it.

Jess and Ed discuss this news story and the related particulars about what makes loot boxes so compelling and just how lucrative they are to video game companies. Different games handle loot boxes differently, and they don’t always get such a bad rap. For example, Fortnite and Overwatch’s loot boxes only contain cosmetic items, and those games largely avoid negative publicity as a result.

Jess and Ed also answer your questions about last week’s episode about where to buy multiplatform games when you have so many different options.
