Overwatch And More PC Games Are Only $12 In September’s Humble Monthly

October’s Humble Monthly is available, and it’s a doozy. If you subscribe between now and October 5, you’ll get immediate access to Overwatch, Blizzard’s enormously popular hero shooter that normally retails for $40. A one-month subscription only costs $12, and Overwatch is yours to keep and play forever, even if you unsubscribe. On October 5, a number of other games will be revealed that you’ll also get to keep. This is an incredible deal for anyone who plays on PC and hasn’t picked up Overwatch yet.

If you keep your Humble Monthly subscription going, you’ll also get free Overwatch loot boxes in November and December, in addition to those months’ free games. Loot boxes contain cosmetic items like skins, emotes, and voice lines for the heroes.

Most of the games you receive come in the form of Steam codes. For an idea of what kinds of games you can expect to receive in September in addition to Overwatch, previous months’ offerings have included Rise of the Tomb Raider, Conan Exiles, Little Nightmares, Sniper Elite 4, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and Battle Chef Brigade. Even though a subscription only costs $12 per month, you generally get around $200 worth of games each month.

Subscribing to Humble Monthly gets you additional benefits beyond free mystery games. You also get access to the Humble Trove, a collection of over 60 games you can download and play for as long as you have an active subscription. Another benefit is that you get 10% off Humble Store purchases. And 5% of your subscription fee goes to charity.

So if you’re a PC gamer who wants one of the best, most reliable deals in gaming, consider signing up.

Why It’s Insane That Warner Bros. Doesn’t Have a Superman Anymore… But Not Surprising

With word coming today that Warner Bros. and Henry Cavill have parted ways and Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in the DC films, the studio’s superhero slate has suffered another blow. But unfortunately, despite the fact that Superman has always been one of DC Comics’ marquee characters (alongside Batman, who by the way is reportedly on the verge of being recast), this is just the latest example of Warners indicating that they don’t know what to do with the Man of Steel.

(Meanwhile, Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia said on Twitter this morning that “the cape is still in his closet,” confusingly implying that perhaps the actor isn’t totally out of the Superman game yet despite today’s news. And Warner Bros. responded to the report from THR with the following statement: “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”)

How the Internet Is Reacting to Henry Cavill No Longer Being Superman

Following a report that actor Henry Cavill is no longer going to be portraying Superman, Twitter reactions of all sorts have been flying (sorry) in.

As is par for the course with any major report, jokesters are getting in on the reaction game by having some fun with the report. But plenty of reactions have been more serious, many expressing alarm over someone other than Cavill portraying the Man of Steel.

A number of people ran with the report that Warner Bros. might be considering replacing Cavill with Michael B. Jordan. But Bleacher Report’s Dave Schilling joked about how that could create some problems for Supes:

Sunset Overdrive Was Originally a Lot Like Fortnite

Early in development, Sunset Overdrive actually had a lot in common with the then-unreleased, now-immensely-popular multiplayer game Fortnite.

IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Insomniac CEO Ted Price for this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered (see below) and talked about the origins of the popular Xbox One exclusive.

“Our first prototypes were, actually, you building a fort with friends, fighting off hordes of

” Price said, “So, very similar to a very popular game today, which we all sort of chuckle about, but the game did morph along the way to something that was more of a story-driven, open world game.”

There are still vestiges of that early iteration of the game, which players can experience in Sunset Overdrive’s base defense encounters. Price went on to explain other early ideas, which included experiments with cover-based combat and more, and how the team stumbled upon the magic combination which makes Sunset Overdrive so unique.

No, Halo 5 Is Not Coming to PC

For a brief time earlier this week, it looked like one of Xbox One’s biggest exclusives might no longer be quite so exclusive, but Microsoft has since shut down rumors that Halo 5: Guardians is on its way to PC.

“As we’ve shared previously, we do not have plans to launch Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10 PC,” a Microsoft representative told CNET.

Rumors to the contrary emerged Sunday, when a subtle change to Halo 5’s Amazon box art was noticed. Instead of reading that it was an “Xbox One Exclusive,” the box art was changed to read that Halo 5 was just an “Xbox One Console Exclusive.” The change to the latter wording is in line with how Microsoft typically describes games released on both Xbox One and PC, but that’s apparently not the case with Halo 5.
