Walking Dead Creator’s Amazon Prime Series Invincible Adds Mahershala Ali, John Hamm, And More To Cast

Robert Kirkman is best known for The Walking Dead, but another of his long-running comics is spinning up for an adaptation. Invincible is coming to Amazon Prime as an animated series next year, and Kirkman and Amazon have been trickling out casting announcements throughout 2020. This series might featurethe most star-studded casts out there, and the latest announcements only back that up.

The latest names joining the Invincible cast are Mahershala Ali, Nicole Byer, Jon Hamm, Clancy Brown, Djimon Hounsou, Ezra Miller, Jeffrey Donovan, and Jonathan Groff. Previously announced casting includes Steve Yeun and J.K. Simmons as the main character, Mark Grayson, and his father Nolan, as well as Seth Rogan, Mark Hammill, Sandra Oh, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulous, Zachary Quinto, and more. A bunch of Walking Dead alum will also appear, including Khary Payton, Sonequa Martin-Green, Lauren Cohan, and others.

Invincible ran as a comic book for 15 years, from 2003 through 2018. The story centered on teenager Mark Grayson, a half-alien-half-human who inherited superpowers from his father. Mark has to learn to deal with his superpowers and lineage, becoming a superhero named Invincible. Like Kirkman’s Walking Dead, the story can be brutally violent at times, though its set in a much more vibrant world.

Invincible is set to debut sometime in 2021.

Destiny 2: Here’s When You Can Download And Play The PS5/Xbox Series X Update

Destiny 2 is almost ready to launch its huge next-gen update, with improved framerates, loading times, enhanced graphics, and new features. This update, which will will even add an 120fps option for the PvP Crucible, will arrive on December 8 at 9 AM PT. While Destiny 2 has been playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S since the systems launched, this update will massively enhance the game on these platforms.

Bungie has detailed Destiny 2 Update 3.0.1, which will introduce numerous changes to every version of the game, but will give the next-gen consoles a huge boost. The game can be played across generations, so for instance PS5 players can still team up with their friends on PS4 after the update.

One thing this update probably won’t do, however, is bring back Trials of Osiris–you’ll have to wait until December 18 for that.

Destiny 2 recently went through some major changes with its Beyond Light expansion, and the game will keep changing and evolving over time. Here’s everything coming on December 8, including the Prophecy Dungeon.

Destiny 2 Update 3.0.1 Notes

    • Stay tuned to @BungieHelp for more on this Companion App update.

    • Updated the description string of Mask of Bakris’s perk to correctly describe its damage bonus, which applies only to combatants and affects all Arc weapon damage and all damage against slowed or encased enemies.
      • Additionally, fixed an issue where this damage bonus was applying to players who are slowed or encased in Crucible and Gambit.
  • Necrotic Grip
    • Fixed an issue where being killed by the effects of Necrotic Grip would show as being “Killed by the Architects.”

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Patch Notes Revealed (December 7), Free DLC Available

Just ahead of the launch of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone‘s Season 1 expansion, Call of Duty developer Treyarch has announced a new patch is coming to Black Ops Cold War very soon.

This newest game update will go live around 11 PM PT on December 7, and it includes a series of quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, stability updates, and adjustments to weapons and Scorestreaks. The patch doesn’t contain any weapon buffs or nerfs, however.

The big change for weapons is that there is now more polish to the “visual kickback” when firing from the hip. Additionally, the updates fixes an animation issue with the Hauer 77 and it clears out a bug that could cause thermal scopes to not work properly when riding in a vehicle.

New options for traversal are unlocked in this update, too, as parachutes can now be used in all modes on the large-scale Crossroads and Armada maps.

Fans of the Zombies mode are getting some new with this update, as it introduces new teasers about the Season One update in “Die Maschine” and Onslaught. You can see the full patch notes below, as posted by Treyarch on its website.

As a thank you to fans for their patience regarding Season One’s delay, Treyarch is giving everyone some personalization items for free. All you have to do is log in to the game between 10 AM PT on December 8 and the start of Season One to claim these bundles:

“Field Research” Bundle

  • 1 Epic Operator Skin (Park)
  • 1 Epic SMG Weapon Blueprint
  • 1 Epic Reticle
  • 1 Epic Calling Card
  • 1 Rare Weapon Charm

“Certified” Bundle

  • 1 Epic Operator Skin (Garcia)
  • 1 Rare Assault Rifle Weapon Blueprint
  • 1 Epic Reticle
  • 1 Epic Weapon Charm

Additionally, Treyarch has announced it’s adding a new playlist called “Motherland Moshpit” in the new update. It includes TDM, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint on the Moscow and Crossroads Strike maps.

For fans of the Nuketown map, the new version of it, Nuketown ’84, will remain playable in the Core and Hardcore playlists. Treyarch teased that the Nuketown 24/7 playlist is set for a return in Season 1 with a “special twist.”

Finally, there will be an extended double XP weekend for multiplayer and zombies that begins on Saturday, December 12 and runs through the start of Season 1–that’s a pretty nice window to earn double XP for weapons and levelling.

Take-Two CEO Thinks Photorealism In Games Isn’t Too Far Off

Graphics in games are already impressive, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes it’s only going to get even better. During the UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference (via Gamesindustry.biz), Zelnick said he expects photorealism to be possible within the next decade.

“And I can’t quite say what that will involve, but I think what you’re going to see is technology will allow our creative folks to do things they’ve never been able to do before, including make games that look exactly like live-action,” he stated. “Some of what we do now looks a lot like live-action, but it’s still animation. In 10 years, you’ll have the option if you want to make things that look completely realistic, all done inside a computer, never mind all the other advances technology will enable.”

He also spoke with general optimism about the business side of games too, nodding to the widespread possession of smartphones as a factor that will affect future business developments. “I’m guessing [Take-Two’s] business in ten years looks very different than it does today in the same way that it looks very different today than it did ten years ago when there was no mobile business and no recurrent consumer spending,” Zelnick commented.

As of May, Take-Two reportedly has 93 games in development. Take-Two and Rockstar haven’t officially stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is among the sea of new titles, but according to Kotaku’s April article, the game is supposedly in development. Fans hungry for the next GTA title have also supposedly spotted a GTA 6 teaser in a new Grand Theft Auto Online trailer.

Lord Of The Rings Online Is Coming To PS5 And Xbox Series X, It Seems

The developers of the long-running Lord of the Rings MMO, The Lord of the Rings Online, are planning what sounds like extensive updates for the future that could include a console edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Publisher Daybreak Game Company was recently acquired by Enad Global 7, and in an investor briefing (via PCGamesN), the company said it has a number of updates for the MMO in the works. The company is investing so heavily into the game in an attempt to piggyback on Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show, Enad Global 7 said.

“Planning visual and technical updates for LOTRO for PC and next-gen consoles to capitalize on Amazon’s highly publicized large investment (~$500mm) in LOTR TV series,” reads a line from the presentation.

The slide says these updates are planned for 2022. No further details were provided, however.

For what it’s worth, Amazon is working on its own Lord of the Rings MMO, though it is not based on the TV show. This game will also come to PC and console, so it appears Daybreak is making moves with its own Lord of the Rings MMO to be competitive with the new one.

The Lord of the Rings Online was released in 2007 and has been steadily supported since with numerous expansions and other updates. The game has undergone a number of behind-the-scenes changes, as it was originally developed by the Warner Bros. studio Turbine in Boston, Massachusetts, before a new company, Standing Stone Games, took over development.

Daybreak Game Company, formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment before it split from the company, was acquired by the Stockholm, Sweden-based company Enad Global 7 earlier in December.

Limited-Time Echo Generation Xbox, PC Demo Now Live

In a collaboration with this year’s The Game Awards, developer Cococucumber has released a demo of its turn-based action-adventure game Echo Generation for PC and Xbox consoles.

The alpha demo, which can be played on PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S and One, will be available to play until December 15. Echo Generation is slated to launch sometime in 2021.

Echo Generation is set in a sleepy Canadian town in 1993, following a group of kids as they seek to understand and set right the otherwordly mysteries unraveling around them. It’s reminiscent of recent nostalgia-trips like Crossing Souls while harkening back to classic ’80s films like The Goonies. The alpha demo thrusts a brother-sister duo out into the world to talk to dastardly raccoons, fight mutated rats, and explore the siblings’ small Candian settlement.

On Xbox Series S and Series X, Echo Generation is said to run at 60 fps. On Series X, the game will purportedly hit 4K resolution. Check out the alpha demo announcement trailer below.

Battlefield 5 Update 7.3 Rolls Out Tuesday, Patch Notes Revealed

Battlefield 5 received a major fall update just a few weeks ago, and we’re already getting another patch. However, update 7.3 is a relatively minor one, focused on fixing small but persistent bugs, such as making sure that unlockable cosmetics are actually unlocking, and fixing paint jobs for specific planes.

We’ve got the full patch notes below, but the most notable fix is for a bug that caused EA Play users to show up as Trial Users, which caused many players to complain. The patch also updates the game’s loading screen with some new artwork.

Battlefield 5’s fall update rolled out on November 17, and it added two new Elite soldiers to the game, as well as a panoply of cosmetic items. It also fixed the broken Globetrotter achievement, which trophy hunters certainly appreciated. The update overhauled the Community Games feature, giving players the ability to customize their own games.

Battlefield 5 Update 7.3 Patch Notes

  • We’ve updated our loading screen with new artwork
  • Fixed an issue that was causing for some players who were accessing Battlefield V via EA Play to show as Trial Users
  • The correct rank is now shown in Your Company
  • Fixed an issue which was preventing the Rank Up message from appearing during midround
  • Friendly Name tags are correctly disabled when name tags mutator is set to OFF
  • The Serpentine paint job is now available in The Company for the Corsair F4U-1C
  • The New Zealand plane paint job correctly displays when in the Corsair F4U 1-A cockpit view
  • The Hazard Skin is now correctly available for both Male and Female Soldiers
  • Ensured that the minimum players mutator in Community Games remains the same as the previous selection when switching game size from 64/32 players, to 16
  • The Loose Part hairstyle is now correctly available to unlock via The Company

KFC Is Making a Lifetime Movie Starring Mario Lopez as Colonel Sanders

If all you were wishing for this holiday season was an origin story for KFC’s Colonel Sanders, you’re in luck. Lifetime just announced a mini-movie titled A Recipe For Seduction starring Mario Lopez as a young Sanders.

Revealed via the official Lifetime twitter account, the film will premiere on December 13th at 3 p.m. EST/12 p.m. PST on Lifetime.

A subsequent trailer was released showcasing Mario Lopez as the young Harland Sanders, who isn’t sporting his signature white hair quite yet, but rather a salt-and-pepper look. In typical Lifetime movie fashion, the film appears to be filled with plenty of spicy moments including a dangerous love triangle and the revelation of Sanders’ “secret recipe that will change the world.”

KFC is no stranger to unexpected medium crossovers, though. Late last year the company released a free anime-style dating simulator on Steam titled I Love You, Colonel Sanders that allowed players to romance the Colonel himself, albeit a much younger version.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=kfc-dating-simulator-screenshots&captions=true”]

Earlier this year, KFC opened an island in Animal Crossing that included a virtual restaurant and coupons for a free bucket of chicken that could be redeemed outside your virtual life, you know, in the real world.

Oh, and let’s not forget that fried chicken-scented firelog KFC released last year just in time for the holidays.

What’s next for the Colonel? A Kentucky Fried collab for some new shoes? Oh wait, he already did that with chicken Crocs. Well, whatever it is, it’ll surely catch us by surprise.

Audeze Penrose X Gaming Headset Review

It’s no secret that Audeze makes great headphones. Often mentioned among audiophiles, the company excels at delivering rich sound – from the source of music to our ears, the experience is usually a grand one.

Audeze also excels at making gaming headsets, easily landing at the top of our Best High-End Gaming Headset list. With the Audeze Penrose, for PS5, PS4, Switch, PC, and Mac, and Penrose X for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, the company could end up taking the number 2 spot as well.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=audeze-penrose-x-review&captions=true”]

Audeze Penrose X – Design and Features

The Audeze Penrose and Penrose X wireless headsets – the latter of which I reviewed – both offer the company’s planar magnetic/Neodymium technology. These high-end, $300 headsets use 100mm planar magnetic drivers alongside Fluxor magnet arrays and Fazor Waveguides in each cup; the drivers and array provide clarity while the waveguide reduces distortion. Forgoing an in-depth analysis on how all of this tech works, I can say that the Penrose X sports well built cans that allow for an amazing audio-based experience when gaming.

Of course, that’s just on the inside. The outside of each cup offers various niceties as well. For instance, the Penrose X uses contoured memory foam and artificial leather to provide a soft and comfortable fit. Which is notable given the pressure applied by its headband – the X squeezes in such a way to keep itself from falling from your head during play.
Besides a soft touch, there’s nothing of note on the right ear cup. The left cup, however, houses all of the buttons and ports. That includes the microphone and USB-C charge ports, a standard 3.5mm audio jack (for wired gaming), multiple volume control wheels, the power button, microphone mute switch, and a nifty multi-function button that changes the Penrose’s connection type.

Audeze Penrose X

All of these buttons and such are of a typical headset design. That said, there’s actually a lot going on convenience wise. Take the multiple volume control wheels for example. Having separate volume wheels for the mic and game sound is always a plus. What makes them great though is their secondary functions. Double click the headphone volume wheel and the Penrose X will link back to the last Bluetooth host device it connected to (more on that in a bit). Pressing and scrolling the mic volume wheel will adjust the game chat mix, separating the chat and game volumes in order to better hear one or the other.

The power button has multiple uses as well. Pressing and holding the button will turn on/off the headset. Single clicks will pause and play audio or answer and end calls while double clicks (with a brief pause in between presses) will begin Bluetooth pairing. The multi-function button has similar uses. Long presses start the wireless dongle pairing while single clicks toggle between wireless, Bluetooth 5.0 and Aux connections.

Again, the Penrose X seemed to be designed with convenience in mind. Several useful options and features are always at your fingertips. Beyond that is the ease of play. Out of the box, all I had to do was plug in the flexible boom mic and connect the 2.4GHz wireless dongle (which comes with the headset) into a USB port on my gaming PC and Xbox Series X to get things going. Even pairing to my phone to listen to music was a breeze; the Penrose connects remarkably fast. Connected directly to a device is also easy thanks to its 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. Really, the only thing that’ll slow you down is the headset’s 3 hour charge time, which will net you 15 hours of battery life.

Audeze Penrose X Review

Audeze Penrose X – Performance

The Penrose X performed wonderfully, whether it was paired with my Android phone, PC, or Xbox Series X. This was especially the case with Xbox. For one, there was no need to adjust audio rendering settings as it supports any spatial audio system as long as it doesn’t have to do any manual processing.  This basically means that, because the Series X handles everything on the backend, you can just plug and play – there’s no need to switch from say, Dolby Atmos, if that’s the setting you’d typically use with the Series X. The Penrose X can handle it and provide a virtual surround sound experience without needing to be fiddled with.

Another thing that stood out is the ability to alter the game chat mix. One of my biggest pet peeves with using wireless headsets on the Xbox One (and now the Xbox Series X/S) is how there’s no menu option to change the chat and game volumes separately; they’re there but grayed out, only usable with wired headsets. And while one could lower the in-game sound via a game’s sound settings, they would need to do that for every game, subsequently raising the volume back up when not using a wireless headset. The Penrose X circumvents this issue with its mic volume wheel.

Audeze Penrose X Review

By pressing and holding before scrolling up or down, I was able to adjust the game chat mix using this wheel; looking at my gaming TV, I could see the grayed-out bar sliding back and forth. This made playing games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bearable as I didn’t have to worry about explosions drowning out the chat. Speaking of explosions, they all sounded excellent. Gun fire, footsteps, someone slowly opening a door in an effort to be sneaky – it all came in loud and clear. And with the solid connection provided by the 2.4GHz wireless dongle, I didn’t have to worry about latency issues.

Jumping over to PC for a few rounds of Valorant, I quickly found myself immersed in the action. That’s not to say that the Penrose X always performed exceedingly better than my previous headsets, but only that it didn’t need much tweaking to provide a great experience. Still, if I did need to tweak the sound, I could use the AudezeHQ software to do so. It allows the toggling of sidetones, mix adjustments, EQ changes (using it’s 10 band interface), firmware updates and more.

Audeze Penrose X Review

Most of my time with the Penrose X was beyond pleasant. There were some issues worth mentioning though. The Penrose and Penrose X both allow for simultaneous connectivity via wireless and Bluetooth connections. This allows for some quick swapping – I was able to chat with friends via Discord, switch over to my phone to answer a call, and then switch back to my PC using one button. This type of functionality is great on paper. Unfortunately, the mic itself doesn’t switch back and forth with you.

My friends on Discord could still hear me talking after switching to my phone. I had to manually mute myself on the app to keep the call private. Also, on a few occasions, a game’s audio from my PC and the person talking to me on the phone could both be heard at the same time. Switching between devices, completely stopping the activity on one before starting something on another, proved to be beneficial. But trying to go back and forth quickly was met with mixed results.

Then there’s the mic. Toted as a broadcast quality microphone, it mostly lives up to the hype. That said, it can be a bit finicky. All headset mics require the proper positioning to work well; put it too far away and no one can hear you, too close and you’ll sound muffled. The Penrose X’s mic is different. No matter where I put the mic people could hear me. Which was a good thing. How well they could hear me though, depended on the slightest of adjustments.

I checked on Audeze’s recommended microphone positioning. Tried to keep it between 2 and 6cm from the lower left corner of my chin, slowly moving it around to get things just right. During that time, I’d ask my friends how I sounded. I’d go from low or muffled to great and back again even though I was barely moving the mic. It took a few minutes but, in the end, I was able to place it in a spot that worked, where everyone could hear me talking without also hearing me breathing.

As mics go, it stayed in place while I was playing. I didn’t have to mess with it again until I accidentally knocked it out of place. This time, to fix the sound, I recorded myself while playing around with the mic’s positioning. I could always hear myself, but it took a while to get it to where I’d be comfortable streaming or podcasting. You could chalk this up to user error – it’s possible that I wasn’t as gentle with the mic as I thought – but the microphone does take some getting used to. More so than a lot of other headsets I’ve used over the years.
