Win Destiny 2: Forsaken Collector’s Items Through Bungie’s New Reward Program

Bungie has announced a new rewards program built around Destiny 2: Forsaken. Called Bungie Rewards, enlisting in the program allows you to earn Destiny 2 collector’s items by completing limited time in-game challenges.

You can become a part of Bungie Rewards and start working your way towards completing the first challenge right now. According to Bungie’s website, signing up is a simple two step process. Go to the Bungie Rewards’ page and then verify your PSN, Xbox Live, or Battle.net account via your email. The first challenge ends in about a month, so if you want to participate, you should sign-up for Bungie Rewards sooner rather than later.

To earn the first reward, you’ll have to complete the entire Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign by September 30. Doing so nets you a digital copy of Forsaken’s soundtrack, which also includes two bonus tracks from the Whisper of the Worm quest. You can buy the digital soundtrack from the Bungie Store for $10, but the two bonus tracks are only available via this Bungie Rewards challenge.

Forsaken kicks off Destiny 2’s Season of the Outlaw. Bungie Rewards will offer more limited-time exclusive items throughout the season for completing different in-game challenges. Though additional rewards haven’t been listed yet, Bungie has outlined what the next year of Destiny 2’s DLC looks like.

Destiny 2 is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. We gave the game an 8/10 in our review. The Forsaken expansion is live on all platforms, and we’ve created a few guides to help you get through the opening hours–including how to activate the Heroic version of the Tangled Shore’s Public Event and what new Exotic weapons and armor have been added to the game.

Three Big PS4 Game Sales Are Live On The US PlayStation Store

It’s a good week to be a frugal PS4 owner. That’s because you get not one, not two, but three video game sales on the PlayStation Store between now and September 10. If you enjoy the Assassin’s Creed series or games made by Rockstar or Bandai Namco, there’s a good chance you’ll find something worth buying this week. As usual, PS Plus members will get additional discounts on some of the games. Read on for the details.

Fans of historical bloodshed can pick up most of the Assassin’s Creed series at a discount right now. Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, which contains remasters of Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations, is on sale for $20. The seafaring Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is down to $10, while Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is on sale for $18. And if you haven’t picked up Assassin’s Creed Origins yet, you can do it now for $24, before Odyssey lands in October. Additionally, a hefty amount of Assassin’s Creed DLC and expansions is also on sale.

Over in the Rockstar game sale, you’ll find titles like Grand Theft Auto V for $20 and the full PS2 trilogy for $18 (or $9 each if purchased individually). The remastered version of LA Noire is down to $20, while Bully, Manhunt, Max Payne, Red Dead Revolver, and The Warriors will only set you back $9 each as well.

For its part, Bandai Namco has also dropped prices on a number of its popular games. You can get the anime fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ for $30. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is on sale for $10, and Dark Souls 3 is down to $15. RPG fans can pick up Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom for $36, or a smattering of Tales games for $15 apiece.

That’s a lot of deals, and we only really scratched the surface of what’s available on the PSN. You can find the full listings for all of the sales right here.

BlizzCon 2018 Expected To Be The Biggest Yet, Exceeding Last Year’s 35K Attendees

BlizzCon 2017 was big; 35,000 people attended, and more than 10 million people from 180 countries tuned in online to watch live. Those are just some of the numbers Blizzard is sharing ahead of BlizzCon 2018, which the company says will be even larger with an expected record attendance.

This year, BlizzCon is promising “new ways to engage” with content online, like interactive polls, and more exclusive content related to Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, StarCraft II, Diablo III, and Heroes of the Storm. The trade floor itself is huge, Blizzard shared, spanning 21 football fields with a giant LED screen in the Overwatch Arena that weighs the same an elephant. The convention (and online content) will also be offered in Spanish and Portuguese this year, in addition to the several other languages, so online attendance may be up too.

It’s no wonder BlizzCon is such a big deal, when you look at the overall stats Blizzard is sharing about its community. On Battle.net, there are 37 million active players from more than 200 countries each month, with an average 30K logins per minute and 30 million chat messages per day. The average player has 21 friends on Battle.net, with Koreans having the most at an average 28 friends. On the more random side:

  • Players have given more than 7.4 billion commendations in Overwatch to both friends and enemies.
  • Murky has been killed almost 390 million times in Heroes of the Storm
  • In World of Warcraft, Legion, Dungeon, and Raid bosses have killed players 2.8 billion times, while players have slayed bosses 1.4 billion times.
  • 23.3 billion Murloc cards have been laid down in Hearthstone since it launched.
  • Necros have more than 10 million skill build combos in Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer.
  • Blizzard’s community forms get around 1 million posts per month.
  • StarCraft II players have raked in more than $25 million in esports prize money since its launch.

You can check out the full infographic below. In other Blizzard news, World of Warcraft’s latest expansion Battle for Azeroth has set a sales record, and Diablo 3 is coming to Switch and things are looking good.

Editor’s note: The original text said that more than 1 million people tuned in from 180 countries. The correct number is over 10 million. GameSpot regrets the error.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Best Buy Demo Events Coming To Some Best Buys

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives on Nintendo Switch this December, but some fans will have a chance to go hands-on with the highly anticipated fighting game before then. Electronics retailer Best Buy will hold several Super Smash Bros. Ultimate demo events around the US during September and October, allowing attendees to try the mascot brawler out ahead of its release.

The demo event will come to two different cities every weekend for the next several weeks. The first will be hosted at participating Best Buy stores in New York and San Jose this Saturday and Sunday, September 8-9. The event runs from 10 AM to 7 PM local time on Saturday, and 11 AM to 5 PM local time on Sunday.

The following weekend, on September 15-16, the demo event will be hosted in Los Angeles and Chicago, with additional events scheduled to come to Dallas, Minneapolis, Miami, and other cities after that. You can find the complete event schedule, courtesy of Best Buy’s official blog, below:

Demo units will only be available at one particular location in each city; you can see the participating stores by clicking on the corresponding links above.

Outside of recent events like E3 and PAX West, this marks the first chance most fans will have to try Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before it launches, so if you’re interested in checking the game out and live near one of the participating cities, this is a good opportunity to see why it was one of our favorite games from E3 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases for Nintendo Switch on December 7. Nintendo recently unveiled the game’s special edition, which retails for $140 and includes a steelbook case featuring the Smash Bros. logo along with a nice-looking Smash Bros.-themed Switch Pro Controller. The controller will also be sold separately for $75. You can read more in our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate pre-order guide.

Predicting the Top 10 Fall Box Office Movies

Now that the summer movie season has come to a close, it’s time to look ahead to see what the fall movies have to offer. While the fall movies don’t often put up as big of numbers as their summer counterparts, there are a number of potential blockbusters waiting in the wings, but for the first time in four years, there won’t be a Star Wars movie at the end of the year, which opens up the field considerably. The end of the year is shaping up to be quite competitive though, which could leave a number of high profile releases lost in the shuffle.

While there is only one wide release opening on Christmas Day (Focus Features’ On the Basis of Sex), there are five major releases on December 21 (Alita: Battle Angel, Aquaman, Bumblebee, Holmes & Watson, and Welcome to Marwen), plus Mary Poppins Returns on December 19. This is almost exactly identical to last year’s holiday release schedule which saw the release of five new films (Downsizing, Father Figures, Pitch Perfect 3, The Greatest Showman and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) in the days before Christmas. Jumanji ($404.5 million) was the only bona fide hit of the five, although The Greatest Showman ($174.3 million) and Pitch Perfect 3 ($104.9 million) also fared well.

Destiny 2’s Year 1 PS4 Exclusives Are Now All Available On Xbox One And PC

When Destiny 2 released, it brought with it a bunch of content for PS4 only, and that offering continued to grow over the release of its two expansions Curse of Osiris and Warmind. Now, with the arrival of its third expansion Forsaken, Bungie has released a 2.0.0.1 update that unlocks all previous PS4-exclusives for Xbox One and PC players.

The original game came with an exclusive Exotic sniper rifle, called Borealis. There were also exclusive armor sets for Warlocks, Titans, and Hunters, and an exclusive ship, the City Apex, all of which Xbox One and PC players can now access. A previously PS4-exclusive Strike, called Lake of Shadows, can now be found for all players in the European Dead Zone.

Destiny 2 also came with a PS4-exclusive Crucible map, called Retribution. In Curse of Osiris, another exclusive Crucible map, Wormhaven (set in the New Pacific Arcology), was added, and Warmind brought another exclusive Strike called The Insight Terminus. All of these have also now been opened up on other platforms.

Continuing the tradition, Destiny 2’s latest expansion comes with a bunch of Forsaken PS4-exclusive content with a similar timeline; PS4 players get it now, but it will be “at least” Fall 2019 before Xbox One and PC players get it. If you buy Forsaken on PS4, you’ll get a new armor set for each class, an Exotic weapon, a ship, and a Strike.

Between the latest 2.0.0.1 update the the launch of Forsaken, a lot has suddenly changed in Destiny 2. The level cap is now 50 for Forsaken owners, and Year 2 weapons will come with random perks (like in the original Destiny). The mod system has also been reworked; all existing mods have been depreciated and new ones have been introduced. For more details, here’s everything new in Forsaken, and check out our gallery of all the new Exotic weapons and armor so far.
