Valentine’s Day – the big holiday about making single people to feel bad and forcing people in relationships to buy stuff – is less than a week away. Flowers, candy, teddy bears, those are all great, (and if you’re looking to buy flowers online we’ve got you covered) but why not give something a little more… out there? Here are some quirky, weird, and cool gifts to give your significant other, or anyone else special in your life.
Since the launch of its Battle Royale mode last year, Fortnite‘s popularity has exploded. That’s no doubt thanks in part to being free-to-play, but while it follows the same basic format as other games in the increasingly popular sub-genre, it does offer a unique twist with its building mechanics. At the press of a button, you can build walls, floors, and stairs, and that ability is key to success.
However, with no tutorial and players eager to kill you, actually getting the hang of building is not especially easy. Building can generate a lot of noise, which invariably attracts unwanted attention. To help you get started, we’ve put together the video above in which we run through the basics of gathering materials and building. We cover both the small so-called “panic forts” that you’ll build during the course of a match to protect yourself, as well as the towers that are frequently used at the end of a game.
In the video, you’ll also get a look at the recently added minigun. Epic continues to make changes and add new content to Battle Royale, some of which can have a significant effect on building. The minigun is one such case, as it makes for an ideal way to rapidly destroy the cover that enemies are hiding behind.
A new update for Fortnite introduced the Crossbow, which, while packing unlimited ammo, doesn’t offer the kind of firepower that’s ideal for demolishing structures. It does, however, allow for stealthy takedowns, something that can provide you with a real edge. The first teaser for Venom was released recently, and it’s not quite what fans expected. Aside from Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) not wearing the symbiote during any part of the video, tonally, it felt more like a horror or thriller than a comic book movie. It’s completely unclear whether or not this movie takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Venom is solely a Sony movie, while Spider-Man: Homecoming was a Marvel and Sony collaboration.
While the comic book version of Venom has a history directly tied to Spider-Man, the webslinger will not appear in this movie, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Peter Parker isn’t in it. That may be a bummer for many fans, but the movie is planning on taking a new direction: horror and sci-fi.
Venom isn’t coming to theaters until October, but the first teaser for the gave its audience a trailer that’s mysterious but delivers the horror and sci-fi tone that was originally promised. Here’s what we learned.

The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia is one of the most iconic characters in all of games, so whoever is chosen to carry the mantle of the legendary White Wolf in the upcoming Netflix series will have plenty of expectations to live up to. Thankfully, Netflix has a proven track record when it comes to investing in big-budget productions like Daredevil and Altered Carbon, which is a good sign for fans of The Witcher, since the series will undoubtedly need a large budget to achieve the same scope that the novels and video games have already established.
In anticipation of Netflix’s journey into the expansive world that author Andrzej Sapkowski created, we’ve compiled a diverse list of 15 actors we think capable of portraying Geralt. There’s still no word on when in Geralt’s life the series will take place, so we made sure to also consider some younger actors who could rise to the challenge if called upon.
The Crimson Days Valentine’s Day event is returning this year, and Bungie has laid out plans for the festivities in Destiny 2. A 2v2 Crucible playlist will be at the core of the week-long feature and the event kicks off on February 13.
“The combat scenario is 2v2 Clash with a round-based twist. We will also be debuting The Burnout, a new take on The Burning Shrine set in a future timeline where the Vex have succeeded in altering our reality,” reads a new update from Bungie.
Niantic has announced that more generation three Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go, including a new Legendary.
In a post on Pokemon Go’s official site, Niantic announced that “several Flying- and Dragon-type Pokemon” will start to spawn in the game beginning tomorrow. While Niantic didn’t name all of the specific Pokemon included in this set, an image on the site showed off Beldum, Chimecho, Pelipper, Bagon, Salamence, Tropius, Taillow, Swablu, and Altaria.
In addition to this set of Pokemon, Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza will also begin appearing in raid battles tomorrow and will remain in the game until March 16.
The first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story was finally released this week, and while didn’t disappoint, it was also fairly light on story details. But Entertainment Weekly has now revealed a little more about what we can expect from the upcoming Star Wars spin-off, as well as showcasing some new images.
Director Ron Howard explained that much of the movie would focus on the relationship between Solo and his trusty Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca. “To me, this is a love story between Han and Chewie,” he said. “Their relationship has always been my favorite part of the saga, and the fact that only Han understands what Chewie is saying, I find a very funny possibility for comedy.”
EW also revealed that original Han Solo actor Harrison Ford was a secret advisor on the movie. Ford read the script an at early stage of pre-production and met with actor Alden Ehrenreich, who plays the young Han in the movie. “What [Ford] did so beautifully for Alden was he talked a lot about what he remembered when he first read Star Wars, and what George had done with Han,” Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said.
“Who the character was, and the conversations he had for so many years with George [Lucas] about how that character developed. He gave Alden that kind of insight which was invaluable. There were several times in the course of making the movie where Alden would actually recount some of the things that Harrison had pointed out. I think that was really, really helpful to him.”
We also now know a little more about the new character Qi’Ra, played by Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke. The character was a close friend of Solo’s when they were much younger, but Clarke hinted the older character we meet in the movie has some secrets.
“The whole way through, she is surviving,” she said. “And surviving in the underworld that we know to be [filled with] smuggling, aloof gamblers, wrong-side-of-the-tracks nasty ones. If you have got a really glamorous lady in a really sordid environment you kind of know that maybe the glamour is hiding a few rough roads.”
Solo: A Star Wars Story also stars Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Donald Glover as Lando, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It hits theaters on May 25, 2018. Check out GameSpot’s full Solo trailer breakdown here.
In related news, it was also announced this week that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will write and produce a new series of Star Wars movies. Disney confirmed that these films will be separate from the current Skywalker saga and the trilogy of movies that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is working on. “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
Deadpool 2 will be a bigger and more action heavy sequel, according to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Liefeld teased what fans can expect from the upcoming film, comparing Deadpool 2 to the beloved second installment in the Alien franchise, 1986’s Aliens. According to Liefeld, while the first Deadpool is more like the original Alien movie, the sequel, like Aliens, ups the ante in a major way.
“Deadpool was Alien,” Liefeld said. “It’s brilliant. It completely works. It’s a masterpiece. Deadpool 2 is Aliens. It’s when James Cameron came in and said, ‘OK you want me to do this? We’re going to make it bigger, put in loads more action.'”
Overwatch’s Lunar New Year event, Year of the Dog, has been announced, with over 50 seasonal items and six new legendary skins to look forward to. But more details have come to light after the patch notes were leaked, revealing the legendary skins for Mercy and Geni – which we already knew about – as well as Zarya and Widowmaker.
The details were posted on Reddit after the patch notes were mistakenly put on the official Overwatch website ahead of time.
