Donald Glover Uses A Hilarious, Brutal “Script” To Address Deadpool Show Cancellation

Just recently, it was reported that the animated Deadpool TV show had stalled, with showrunner and writer Donald Glover walking away from the project. Glover had been working on the series with his brother Stephen since May last year, but “creative differences” had forced the pair, plus producers FX, to walk away from the partnership with Marvel TV. Now Glover himself has made reference to his exit from the Deadpool show.

Glover’s only direct comment on the matter was a tweet saying that he wasn’t “too busy to work on Deadpool.” This is in response to some reports that his departure from the show was due to his busy schedule–Glover is also the star and producer of the hit comedy Atlanta, as well as an actor in movies such as Solo: A Star Wars Story and an acclaimed musician. However, Glover’s tweet suggests that the reasons for leaving the Deadpool show were nothing to do with his schedule, and the script pages that he shared might provide a clue as to why the actor left.

The pages that Glover posted are clearly not from the show itself, but they are packed with allusions to the show’s cancellation as well as a host of other highly topical references. In the script, Deadpool talks about how Marvel already has plenty of “feel good minority shows that everyone supports but no one watches,” and that his show “would have been funny.” In addition, Deadpool speculates whether now is really the right time to have a “violent gun-toting white man ranting on TV” and comes to the conclusion that “maybe they just wanna sell toys.” Check it out in the series of tweets below:

The canceled Deadpool show was to run for set to 10 episodes in its first season and would have premiered this year on FX sister channel FXX. In May last year, FX programming co-president Nick Grad explained that the show would be “bold, striking, and entirely original.” It seems that it might have been just a bit too bold and original.

In related news, a new trailer for the movie Deadpool 2 arrived this week, which follows last week’s first full trailer. The film hits theaters on May 18, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, and Zazie Beetz.

Deadpool 2: Check Out The Newest Trailer And A Goofy Poster

After a couple of months of strange posters and unconventional promos, we finally got the full, official Deadpool 2 trailer last week. The movie hits theaters on May 18, and now we have a second, green-band trailer, plus a new international poster.

The trailer is largely the same as last week’s red-band version, with some of the language and violence toned down. But there is a new joke, plus a recap of the events from the first movie–watch it below. The new poster meanwhile features Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) alongside Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz)–check it out at the end of this story.

It has also been confirmed that Terry Crews is playing the character of Bedlam in the film. The former football star and Brooklyn 99 actor had never been formally announced as part of the Deadpool 2 cast, and it wasn’t initially exactly clear who he was playing. However a freezeframe in the trailer briefly shows a photo of Crews with the name “Bedlam” beneath it.

Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde). He replaced Tim Miller, who reportedly clashed with Reynolds over the direction of the movie. Earlier this month, it was reported that the film was undergoing reshoots to add more footage of Cable and Domino, who had proven very popular with audiences at test screenings.

In a recent interview with Collider, Brolin spoke about the physical challenges of playing Cable. “I got beat to s*** on that movie,” he said. “I had stuntmen throwing me all over the place. I’ve got a shoulder issue, I’ve got a knee issue that I’ve got to deal with now, but we got through it. We got through it. I pushed hard and I suffered because of it.”

Amazon’s New Comedy Is Kind of a Heartbreaker

At first glance, the Amazon Prime original The Dangerous Book for Boys is a complicated concept for what is ultimately a comedy. Based on a book of advice for young boys by Conn Iggulden and Hal Iggulden, the series follows a family as they struggle with the death of their patriarch. Are you laughing yet? Interestingly, it wasn’t supposed to be funny at first.

“When Sony first said, ‘We have the rights to this book, could you think of a story connected to it?’ it was in the drama department,” executive producer and co-creator Bryan Cranston tells IGN. “So I think that was in the back of my mind, drama. How can I make a drama

Yes, Far Cry 5’s Dog Boomer Is A Good Boy, Ubisoft Support Site Confirms

Dog companions in video games are nothing new, but that doesn’t mean having Boomer–one of Far Cry 5‘s many optional AI allies–around is any less enjoyable. You might also be wondering whether or not he is, in fact, a good boy, and luckily we have an official answer, courtesy of Ubisoft’s support site.

Far Cry 5’s launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One has come, and it’s gone relatively smoothly, certainly compared with something like Sea of Thieves last week. As such, Ubisoft has been afforded the flexibility to have some fun by hosting a support page dedicated entirely to the question, “Is Boomer a good boy?”

“Yes. Yes, Boomer is a very good boy,” the page states. There’s no other context or explanation given; the page otherwise only has the usual links to other support pages and what’s basically a baseball trading card for Boomer.

Silliness aside, Boomer is legitimately useful; he’s one of the game’s nine Specialists, which are better versions of the AI-controlled allies you can recruit to help you out in Far Cry 5. Boomer will tag nearby enemies, which is particularly invaluable for players who are looking to be stealthy, and will sometimes bring back a weapon for you after he attacks an enemy. Utilizing Specialists and Guns for Hire in general is a worthwhile strategy, or you could always just play co-op with a friend, as you can see in the video above.

You can read more about Specialist and Guns for Hire in our Far Cry 5 guide that covers tips we wish we knew before playing. For much more, check out our Far Cry 5 review.

Frank Miller to tackle King Arthur series for Netflix

Netflix has ordered a new King Arthur series from comic book legend Frank Miller.

Netflix has ordered Cursed, for a 10-episode, straight-to-series order. Cursed is based on Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler’s upcoming book of the same name, which tells the King Arthur story through the eyes of a teen girl named Nimue who is destined to become the Lady of the Lake.

After Nimue’s mother dies, she finds an unexpected companion in Arthur and the duo go on a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Miller and Wheeler co-created the series and will executive produce the drama. As for the novel, Wheeler is writing it while Miller is handling the art.

Some of Miller’s works that have been adapted into movies include Sin City, The Dark Knight Returns, 300, and Ronin, just to name a few. Meanwhile, Wheeler penned the script for Puss in Boots and also co-wrote The Lego: Ninjago Movie.

New Rainbow Six Siege Update Nerfs Lion, Fixes Recoil On The Test Server

One of Rainbow Six Siege‘s two newest Operators is in line for a nerf. A test server update has been rolled out with a number of changes and fixes, the most notable of which is an adjustment to Lion, one of the two characters added in the recent Operation Chimera update.

Lion is an Attacker whose gadget is a drone that can mark enemies through walls, providing an outline that highlights their current position. Many players feel the character is overpowered, and Ubisoft seems to agree. In a post on Reddit running through the patch notes for the test server update, it states, “We understand that Lion is not in a good place right now.” A more in-depth explanation will be forthcoming, but for now, it simply outlined the balance changes it’s testing.

For starters, if you’re a Defender, you can stop moving after Lion uses his Scan to make your outline disappear. Lion also loses one charge, giving him two total uses in a round. And finally, the cooldown in between uses has been extended from 10 seconds to 20.

The other major change involves what Ubisoft calls “weapon sight misalignment,” which causes bullets to not end up where the targeting reticle suggests they will. According to the patch notes, this update includes a fix that resolves the problem, which tends to impact automatic weapons most. You can see this demonstrated in a video on Ubisoft’s website.

“The goal is to offer a clean, tight shooting system that does not cheat players out of a great show of skill, or on the contrary, register a headshot when the player is aiming at the torso,” a blog post explains. “We prototyped several technical solutions to correct the issue over the last year, but they all had significant drawbacks. We were not comfortable moving forward with the majority of those solutions.

“The solution we landed on shifted how recoils behave, making them trivial to control so all recoils had to be re-done in the new system. We tested some major adjustments to the foundations of the recoil equation on the TTS in September 2017. Following feedback from that Test Server session, we changed how we were going to go about addressing the issue. As such, we have moved away from predictable recoil patterns, and found another solution that does not involve predictable recoil.”

Other changes in this patch include a fix for Mira not being affected by Grzmot explosions if she is holding her Black Mirror and bullets passing through an indestructible wall in the Bank map. You can see all of the changes, along with known issues, in the patch notes below. There’s no word on how soon the contents of this update will be pushed over to the live game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The test server will be live until March 30 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 9 PM BST.

Rainbow Six Siege Test Server Update Patch Notes

Lion

We understand that Lion is not in a good place right now. We will have more insight coming in an overall game balance blog at a later date. For the Test Server, the following changes can be tested.

  • Lion’s Scan will stop displaying your outline as soon as you stop moving.
  • Reducing the number of charges; 3 to 2.
  • Increased cooldown between each charge; 10 to 20 seconds.

Weapon Sight Misalignment

We are implementing a fix that will solve the weapon sight misalignment. More details can be found here.

Bug Fixes

Please note that we have purposefully left out/obfuscated some exploits from the list. These will be included in the final patch notes prior to the 1.2 patch going live.

  • Fixed – In 2F Executive Bedroom on Plane, only the first layer of the floor can be destroyed.
  • Fixed – Kapkan will remain stuck by entering in DBNO right after deploying an EDD.
  • Fixed – Mira is not affected by the Grzmot explosion if she is holding a Black Mirror.
  • Fixed – On Bank, at B Lockers, bullets pass through an indestructible wall between B Lockers and B Secure Hallway.
  • Fixed – Drones will not register slow mouse movements.

Known Issues

  • Excessive lighting is present in the MVP screen during Thermite’s victory dance.
  • Defuser can fall under the map if the player carrying it is killed while in rappel at EXT Pool on Coastline.
  • The EDD will not give 40 damage if is positioned on the lowest point possible on a door.
  • Ela operator will lose functionality if her gadget will be destroyed while trying to pick it up.
  • Concussion effect affects operators through LOS floors.
  • Players can see through smoke cloud grenades if it’s far away.
  • Attacker can plant the defuser on top of a shelf in 2F Armory Lockers on Border.
  • Shield animations have the shield at different angles in first vs third person, allowing a nitro cell to kill the player when they think they are protected.
  • When switching operators during Operator Select, the image of the previously selected operator might remain on the new selection.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Adds Broly And Bardock DLC Today

The first two DLC characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ have arrived. Broly and Bardock are now available to purchase for the Dragon Ball fighting game, and they come alongside new avatars and Z Stamps.

The Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is one of the most imposing characters in Dragon Ball FighterZ, overwhelming opponents with his immense size and power. Bardock, on the other hand, excels at close-range combat. His fighting style emphasizes rush attacks, and he can also transform into a Super Saiyan when delivering his Super.

We got to try out both Broly and Bardock ahead of their release last week, showcasing some of their Supers and victory quotes. We also pit the two Saiyans against each other during our recent Dragon Ball FighterZ livestream. If you missed out, you can watch a replay of it above.

Broly and Bardock are available to download for $5 apiece. Each character also comes with his own Lobby avatar and Z Stamp. Meanwhile, players who’ve purchased the game’s $35 FighterZ Pass will receive the two new Saiyans at no additional cost.

At least six more DLC characters are planned for Dragon Ball FighterZ, all of whom are likewise included in the FighterZ Pass. Bandai Namco has yet to reveal who those will be, but we’ve put together a list of 15 DLC characters we’d love to see in the game.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We called it a “fighting game that can go toe-to-toe with the best of the genre” and awarded it a 9/10 in our Dragon Ball FighterZ review. If you’re just jumping into the title, be sure to check out our guides of gameplay tips and how to collect all the Dragon Balls and summon Shenron.

Dragon Quest 11 Switch Coming Much Later, And 3DS Not At All

Dragon Quest XI finally has a release date on PC and PlayStation 4, but not all the news is rosy if you prefer your RPGs on Nintendo systems. Square Enix has indicated that the Switch version may take quite a while to arrive in the West, and the 3DS version simply isn’t coming at all.

In a statement shared with GameSpot, the company indicated that the Switch version is still in development for North America and Europe, but that the developer still has “a long way to go until its release.” A representative suggested a Switch version isn’t coming in 2018, and that it could be much later. The company states that “development is expected to take a long time from a technological standpoint.”

The 3DS version is even worse off. The ambitious idea was a standalone version developed alongside the PS4, with pixel art to complement the 3D models. Rather than a delay, that version isn’t coming at all.

“Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West. From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017,” the statement read. “For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms.”

The PC and PlayStation 4 versions will be coming on September 4. It has been available in Japan since last year, but the extra time and effort is going in to some tweaks to make the US version friendly to western audiences. Changes include an English voiceover, an overhauled menu and UI, a dash function, and a harder Draconian Quest mode. DQXI also introduces a first-person camera mode to check out the landscapes in greater detail.

Wrestlemania 34: Shane McMahon Needs A Better Schtick Than Falling Off Things

One of the most interesting aspects of covering professional wrestling is the ongoing attempt to separate truth from fiction. When I interview WWE superstars, I ask myself, “Are these the performers’ opinions or their characters’ opinions?” When a press release goes public, “Are its contents legitimate, or are they part of a meta-storyline that will lead to a match?” This deliberate blur is a key to wrestling’s appeal, but it’s also frustrating for people who want the unvarnished truth. Which brings us to Shane McMahon and his recent bout of health issues.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn attacked Shane on the March 13 episode of Smackdown. The beatdown started in the ring, and it continued into the backstage area. Owens and Zayn wrapped a chair around Shane’s head and slammed him into the ring post. They powerbombed him onto a metal riser. And afterwards, WWE released a statement addressing the attack: “He sustained a laryngeal contusion when the steel chair was wrapped around his head and thrown into the turnbuckle,” WWE medical staff said. “He was then thrown onto the metal rack, which resulted in trapezius and rhomboid strains.”

This seemed consistent with the scripted attack on the show. But then on March 26, WWE announced that Shane was now suffering diverticulitis. “Shane developed a massive infection due to acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized for several days in Antigua before being flown back to a New York-area hospital, where he is currently being treated with heavy doses of antibiotics,” explained WWE. “The doctors in New York have also discovered that Shane suffered an umbilical hernia during the attack, which will require surgery once the infection has been eradicated.”

What’s so interesting about this medical update is that it’s posted on the exact same site and reported with the same level of seriousness, as the storyline injuries. But the last sentence, about the newly discovered “umbilical hernia” suffered during the storyline attack, muddies the truth even further.

It would seem, with so many storyline injuries and real injuries, that Shane McMahon could not compete at Wrestlemania 34. But on the March 28 episode of Smackdown, Daniel Bryan announced that he and Shane would be taking on Owens and Zayn in a tag team match.

And that’s when it occurred to me, even though the feeling had been building for a bit: I don’t want to see Shane competing in this match if he’s just going to do what he always does: jump off tall stuff. It’s not fun anymore to watch him risk his life for what appears, on the surface at least, to be a midlife crisis, or a bizarre manner of currying favor with his father and sister.

In a Vice Sports article from 2016, Ian Frisch reported on a meeting that occurred between Shane McMahon, author James Frey, and Vince McMahon in March 2012, in which Shane proposed that he take over all of creative. At one point, Shane had also been an Executive Vice President of WWE, but he resigned his position in 2010 to pursue business opportunities in China. Now, he was returning to his family’s company for a piece of his legacy.

By doing so, he would undercut his sister, Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, and his brother-in-law, Executive Vice President of Talent Paul Levesque (known by his wrestling name Triple H). And understandably, the two of them were beside themselves when they heard about this surprise meeting.

Vince declined the offer. And Shane did eventually return to appearing on camera in 2016–this time as an on-screen character. He was the commissioner of Smackdown, but he held no real executive authority; he was reciting scripted lines, just like everyone else. For someone who reportedly attempted a backdoor coup four years prior, this was a bizarre demotion. He once hoped to supplant his sister; now, he would be taking his marching orders from her. A casual observer might look at this and see an opportunist, lying in wait, for the right opportunity to seize power.

Because of this, Shane McMahon’s infamous daredevil stunts are increasingly awkward to watch. While he still held an executive position in WWE, his antics had a weird sort of heroism; he was risking his life for the good of the company–a company that he would one day be running.

But without that motivating factor, it smacks of desperation–like he’s trying to bleed his way back into a family business that he voluntarily left–not the other way around. He’s 48 years old, and he’s still cracking his ribs and suffering concussions–for no discernible end and no discernible purpose, other than to say that he can, and to feed off crowd chants like, “You still got it!” But it’s not like he ever had it to begin with. Shane still needs a skilled worker–like AJ Styles or Kevin Owens–to put on a good match.

Shane’s stunts do not meaningfully improve any match because 90% of the time, they are contextually separate from any story that match is telling. It’s just a freak show at this point; he might as well bite the head off a chicken while he’s at it. And moreover, he’s doing these stunts, where he could literally die, in front of his young kids. It reminds me of that scene in Beyond the Mat where Mick Foley’s crying kids watch him take close to a dozen unprotected chair shots to the head. But at least that was unplanned; Shane knows that he’s falling off the roof of Hell in a Cell. And his luck may run out eventually.

At Wrestlemania 34, Shane will have three of the best wrestlers in the company–Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Daniel Bryan–carry him to a decent match. But his actual contributions will be memorable for all the wrong reasons. He’s just going to jump off more tall stuff. Again. And if this is Shane’s convoluted strategy to make his way back to the executive table, he’s going to be very disappointed.
