Power Rangers: Shattered Grid Packs a Punch
Never let it be said that event comics are limited to Marvel and DC. BOOM! Studios kicks off its most ambitious Power Rangers story to date with “Shattered Grid,” a crossover that unites the original Mighty Morphin crew with half a dozen other Ranger teams. This story promises plenty of scope and spectacle, but it’s refreshing to see that writer Ryan Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo are more concerned with establishing the emotional stakes of this story first.
Readers coming in cold with this storyline might not notice anything particularly amiss right away. The opening prologue offers some sense of the conflict to come, but for the most part, this issue is devoted more to team drama than anything else. Higgins writes his characters as restless and furtive after Lord Drakkon’s escape, simultaneously gearing up for another major battle and also trying to find a sense of normalcy in their personal lives. Higgins even devotes a significant portion of this issue to Tommy and Kimberly’s awkward, fledgling romance. Between that and the fun banter between Billy and Trini, there’s a low-key, charming quality to this issue. And as someone who’s experience with the non-MMPR shows is very limited, I appreciate the creators not bludgeoning readers over the head with a giant cast of characters right away.
Witcher 3’s PS4 Pro HDR Patch Is Definitely Still On The Way, Dev Confirms
CD Projekt Red has been working on an HDR update to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PS4 Pro for months now, having announced it way back in December. In February, the developer reassured fans that the patch was still on its way, but since then there’s been little further news. This week, though, CD Projekt Red confirmed again that the patch is coming, and explained that its delay has to do with various bugs that need to be fixed.
Community Lead Marcin Momot reaffirmed on Twitter that the studio is still actively developing the HDR update, and he explained that it has taken a long time because CDPR has found additional and unexpected issues that need to be addressed. Further, he urged players to be patient.
.@witchergame PS4 Pro HDR patch is still very much in development. Due to the fact that we’ve discovered some additional bugs along the way, we need more time to finish it. We don’t want to compromise the quality of the update, so we would like to ask you for a bit more patience.
— Marcin Momot (@Marcin360) March 27, 2018
Momot also confirmed that the base PS4 version of the game will also support HDR once the patch launches. However, the patch is also expected add several “technical tweaks improving the overall experience” on PS4 Pro specifically. No other specifics have been given; Momot said that CDPR will “share the full changelog with the release of the patch.”
In other news from CD Projekt Red, its mysterious next game, Cyberpunk 2077, has received a few tiny pieces of news over the past couple of months. Specifically, Cyberpunk’s Twitter account came alive in January after being silent for four years, and CDPR has said its single-player will be “immense” but won’t rule out multiplayer. In addition, be sure to read our article on why Cyberpunk 2077 is so important to RPGs and modern society.
The Witcher’s Geralt In SoulCalibur 6 Is “Like A Scalpel In Combat,” Devs Say
The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia is coming to SoulCalibur VI as a playable character. It’s a big deal because it’s the first time the monster-slayer has been in a non-Witcher game. Now, Bandai Namco has released a new video featuring CD Projekt Red developers talking about bringing Geralt to a fighting game and the efforts the studio has undertaken alongside Bandai Namco to ensure that Geralt “moves, feels, and plays” in SoulCalibur VI like he does in The Witcher 3.
“When Geralt fights, precision is the thing. He’s not a scrappy brawler. He’s like a scalpel in combat,” CD Projekt Red’s Borys Pugacz Muraszkiewicz said.
Elsewhere in the video, other developers talk about how they went “back to the drawing board” to re-work how Geralt behaves in the context of a fighting game. Additionally, we learn that the actor who did the motion-capture for Geralt in The Witcher 3 came back to supervise the recording sessions for SoulCalibur VI. It sounds like the teams went to great lengths to ensure that Geralt was faithfully adapted for SoulCalibur VI–and he should be as he’s on the game’s cover.
CD Projekt Red’s collaboration with Bandai Namco runs deep. The Polish studio shared the original Witcher 3 assets for Geralt’s character model, animations, and weapons as part of their effort to ensure the character is faithfully represented.
Among the other characters confirmed for SoulCalibur VI are Ivy, Zasalamel, Kilik, Xianghua, Nightmare, and new addition Groh. The game does not yet have an exact release date, but it’s due out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime this year.
The Americans Kicks Off its Final Season with Cold War Crusher
Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow…
With a three year time jump, from 1984 to 1987, and only 10 episodes to play with here in its final run, FX’s The Americans kicked off Season 6 with an absolute stunner.
First off, let me just tell you all that I watched this premiere episode, “Dead Hand,” via online press screener at a coffee shop (I watch a lot of screeners out in the wild) and when Elizabeth stabbed that guard in the neck I screamed out “oh s***!”
I got many a look.
The last time that happened for me – the involuntary “oh s***!” while wearing headphones and watching a screener – was during the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad’s third season. So it had been a while.
Star Wars: See Carrie Fisher Slap Oscar Isaac 40 Times In Last Jedi Blooper Reel
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now available on Blu-ray and DVD, and included on the disc are the expected bonus features, one of which is a gag reel. ET has posted a clip from this, and one of the segments shows Carrie Fisher slapping Oscar Isaac more than 40 times. This is when Leia was scolding Poe for being too brash and not following orders. You can see all 40-plus slaps in the video below, along with some silly moments with Mark Hamil, John Boyega, and Kelly Marie Tran.
In May last year, Isaac told Stephen Colbert about all the slapping, which apparently took place on the first day of filming. Isaac also shared that Fisher’s slaps landed on a different part of his face each time, which might explain why they needed so many takes to get it right.
“She was by far one of the quickest-witted, funniest most down-to-earth real human beings I’ve ever had the opportunity of working with,” Isaac said.

Syfy’s Krypton Shows More Promise
Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
There were all sorts of reasons to doubt Krypton when it was first announced. Don’t we already have a perfectly good Superman-themed TV series in Supergirl? Can executive producer David Goyer be trusted after his work on Man of Steel and Batman v Superman? What’s the point of a series where we already know the end destination? But after two episodes, Krypton has mostly managed to quell those concerns. If not without its flaws, Krypton is a perfectly watchable show that carves out its own niche in the increasingly crowded landscape of DC Comics adaptations.
Probably the first big takeaway from “House of El” is how directly Krypton’s story flows from one episode to the next. This isn’t like the Arrowverse, which mixes relatively standalone “villain of the week” plots with an overarching narrative. It’s already starting to feel like Krypton is telling one specific story in its first season – basically a long movie broken up into ten chapters. That’s another element working in the show’s favor at this early stage. Even the best Arrowverse seasons tend to be a little bloated. The prospect of a shorter, more focused season of superhero storytelling is appealing.
New Super Mario Odyssey Costumes Available Now
If you’ve been getting bored with the array of outfits and costumes in Super Mario Odyssey, today brings good news: Nintendo has added two new costumes to the game today. Specifically, a baseball uniform and the Satellaview costume are now available for purchase.
If you’ve ever thought that Mario needs to look a bit more like an athlete when sprinting and jumping around levels, the baseball uniform probably isn’t what you’re looking for. In any case, you can now make him look ready to take on America’s national pastime. A pinstripe outfit and a batting helmet are now available; the uniform will cost you 3000 coins while the helmet costs 1500. Check them out (courtesy of Nintendo Everything):
If baseball isn’t your style, the Satellaview costume allows Mario to look like he’s about to take a spacewalk (although without the necessary oxygen tank and pressurization system). Its somewhat ominous description states, “This outfit represents what the future used to look like.” The helmet will run you 500, while the suit is 1000.
Both of these costumes were discovered by dataminers combing through Super Mario Odyssey’s Balloon World update. They found references to a number of different costumes, indicating that more are on the way. These include an 8-bit Mario hat, a Santa outfit, and others. Nintendo has also previously released DLC costumes, such as another spacesuit and a parka outfit.
Overwatch’s Moira Gets A Welcome Tweak In Latest PTR Patch
Since Moira was added to Overwatch in November, she’s proven to be a relatively unique character. She’s a fantastic healer, but she also functions as a hybrid, of sorts, capable of dealing significant damage to enemies. However, Moira can’t constantly heal like Mercy and Zenyatta can–meaning she will run out of healing for short times during matches. Recently, Blizzard added a welcome tweak to the Overwatch Public Test Realm that communicates Moira’s limitation better to other players.
Added in the latest PTR patch are two new lines that Moira speaks when she’s out of healing power. When she runs out, she now shouts “Not ready!” or “I need to recharge.” You can see the lines in action in the video below, courtesy of Reddit user Owlero.
This is a small but much-appreciated change, as it’ll allow for better teammate communication when not voice chatting and will prevent other players from wasting time asking for a heal.
The new PTR update is available now on PC, and it includes various UI, character, and map changes as well as Moira’s new lines. For instance, Blizzard has boosted the transparency on Moira’s moves, especially her ultimate move Coalescence, which was causing issues due to its blinding effect. D.Va’s micro missiles, meanwhile, have had their explosive damage reduced. You can see the full list of changes on Blizzard’s forum.
The PTR patch is just in testing right now, but it’ll likely be rolled out to everyone on PC in the next few weeks. In other Overwatch news, the new Support character Birgitte was added last week alongside a patch that nerfs Sombra.

Scarlett Johansson to Star in Thor: Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi’s Next Movie
Scarlett Johansson is joining Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi’s next movie, Jojo Rabbit.
Variety reports that Johansson will be coming aboard Waititi’s World War 2 dramedy, playing a woman hiding a 15-year-old Jewish girl in her house, only for the girl to discovered by her young son.
Waititi will star as a warped, comedic version of Hitler in the film. “After being severely hurt by a grenade at Hitler youth camp, a prideful and nationalistic ten-year old boy discovers that his mother is hiding a fifteen year old Jewish girl in their house,” reads Jojo Rabbit’s logline. “The boy’s imaginary friend is a version of Hitler that is far removed from reality, with Waititi describing him as “goofy” and “charming” while “
