Stranger Things 3 Cast Adds More Nostalgic Names

As well as introducing a host of upcoming young stars, the hit Netflix show Stranger Things has given a series of famous names from the ’80s and ’90s some of their biggest roles in years. Winona Ryder is, of course, one of the main stars, but there has also been roles for the likes of Matthew Modine, Paul Reiser, and Sean Astin. Now two more names can be added to the list–Cary Elwes and Jake Busey.

According to Empire, Elwes and Busey are set to join the cast of Stranger Things 3. The news was revealed by Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos, who described the actors as “guest performers.” Empire also reveal some extra information about their characters; Busey will play Bruce, who is a “corrupt and sexist news reporter,” while Elwes is Mayor Kline, a “slick and self-serving politician.”

Elwes is best known for his lead role in the much-loved 1987 fantasy comedy The Princess Bride, as well as Robin Hood: Men in Tights and the first Saw movie. Busey meanwhile starred in the sci-fi classic Starship Troopers and will be seen later this year in the much-anticipated The Predator.

Although the third season of Stranger Things does not yet have a release date, production is set to begin next month. Producer Shawn Levy recently revealed that Season 3 will be set in the summer of 1985, following the convention of the last two seasons, which were set a year apart in ’83 and ’84 respectively.

In January, Levy gave a few more hints as to the direction of the next season. He suggested that the story emphasis might shift, with Will no longer the center of the show’s supernatural scares. “We’re going to give Will a break,” he said. “We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row. He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah [Schnapp] to play.”

Stranger Things 3 was confirmed in December. Netflix renewed the series on the heels of Stranger Things 2’s debut just before Halloween, when it was watched by a third of the the streamer’s US subscribers. Click here to see GameSpot’s theories about Season 3.

GLOW Season 2 Premiere Date Announced

Netflix has announced the return date for GLOW’s second season – June 29.

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are getting back in the ring for a 10-episode second season. The announcement came through a video spoofing the training montage from the 1983 film Flashdance with the wrestlers dancing to Michael Sembello’s ‘Maniac’ in the locker room.

Alison Brie appeared as part of the announcement at Netflix’s See What’s Next event in Rome, and discussed the show’s popularity and timeliness, particularly with regard to Hollywood’s recent push for female empowerment:

“MeToo and Times’s Up are things people have been saying behind closed doors for a long time in our industry”, Brie said at the event, as per Deadline. “It makes me very grateful as an actress to go to work every day. There are women behind and in front of the camera and at the top making decisions. It makes a big difference to feel really seen and heard on set and have ownership of yourself.”

New Jurassic World: Forbidden Kingdom Trailer Delivers Maximum Dinosaur Mayhem

The new trailer for Jurassic World: Forbidden Kingdom is here. The sequel to 2015’s hugely successful Jurassic World hits theaters in June, and this latest promo follows the first teaser that was revealed back in February. There is also a new poster which you can see at the end of this story. The new trailer, which you can view above, lays out much of the storyline, so beware of potential spoilers!

It reveals that the rescue mission featured in the first trailer is merely a ruse to get the dinosaurs off the island and into the hands of some villainous corporate types, who plan to exploit them. But of course, the dinosaurs get loose and mayhem ensues. The movie stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Toby Jones, and BD Wong, with Jeff Goldblum reprising his role from the original Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World: Forbidden Kingdom is directed by Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona, and co-written by Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first movie. Last year, Trevorrow spoke about working with Bayona. “It is by far my favorite creative collaboration that I’ve ever been involved in,” he said. “Bayona is a completely different kind of filmmaker and thinker than I am, yet we do have a lot of things in common. I was able to craft something specifically for another filmmaker that I admire. I built a Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs in it that I probably wouldn’t have built for myself.”

Even though Forbidden Kingdom doesn’t hit theaters until June 22, the release date for the third movie has already been announced. In February, it was confirmed that it will arrive on June 11, 2021. It has also been announced that Trevorrow will return to direct it. This is Trevorrow’s first movie since he was fired from Star Wars Episode IX last year.

Is Far Cry 2 Better Than Far Cry 5?

Is Far Cry 2 Better Than Far Cry 5?

Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 5 share some similarities, but differ hugely in other areas. The question is: which one is better? New episodes of Versus every Wednesday!

As you would expect, Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 2 share a bunch of similarities. They’re both open-world shooters with a focus on emergent gameplay, exploration, and player choice. However, they also diverge in a number of ways.

At times, Far Cry 5 contains a much lighter tone than Far Cry games gone by, with goofy sidekicks and tongue-in-cheek quests. It brings the series to America for the first time, with a brighter color palette than Far Cry 2, which was famously a much more drab and punishing game to play.

Where Far Cry 5 opts to give you huge guns and powerful explosives from the get-go, Far Cry 2 forces you to work hard for its best weapons. The 2008 game also includes the controversial gun jamming feature, which annoyed some players at the time. It was things like the jamming and easily damaged vehicles that caused Far Cry 2 to receive a somewhat mixed reception upon its release, but as time has progressed the game has built something of a cult following. The more recent game in the series continues to tone down some of Far Cry’s more antagonistic elements in favor of a more welcoming ride–though that doesn’t mean it’s easy, of course.

To decide which of the two games is best, we decided to sit down and argue about it. Watch the video above to watch old-school Far Cry fan Oscar Dayus get annoyed with Far Cry 5 lover Tamoor Hussain. The discussion begins with randomly selected topics, and the pair argue in support of their respective choices of game. Alongside the serious analysis of each title, there’s also some fun-poking and jokes at each other’s expense. Be sure to watch till the end to see the quick-fire round, which gets a little goofy.

Last week we put PS4 exclusives against Xbox One exclusives, and Oscar came out on top for the second week in a row while fighting for Sony’s lineup of games. Make sure to make your voice heard this week by voting for who you think won the debate on YouTube or by commenting down below. Check back next week for another episode of Versus; new episodes drop every Wednesday at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM BST / 11 PM AET on GameSpot.com and YouTube.

Latest PS4 Update Asks To Collect EU Users’ Data [Update]

Update: In a statement to GameSpot, Sony confirmed that it is not attempting to collect any new data from users with the latest PS4 update. “We are not collecting any new data,” the company said, “We are being more transparent and offering consumers choice.”

The statement continues: “In line with GDPR requirements, we make every effort to be transparent with our users about how we collect, use and manage their data; we will not be collecting any new or additional information from our users. service data would encompass data necessary to provide users with the service they request (e.g. if a user clicks on a link to a new page, downloading the page to the device). On the other hand, additional data is information that does not need to be collected to provide users with the service they request, most analytics / usage, settings & navigation data would fall into this category; this leads to improved user experiences. Please see our Privacy Policy.”

The company also confirmed there is no way to opt out of supplying service data unless you choose not to play online. You can, of course, opt out of supplying additional data. Original story follows.

Sony recently released a new PS4 update that appeared to be another small, incremental patch to improve stability. However, once the optional update is installed, a message appears informing European PS4 users that Sony “may collect data about this PS4 and how it is used.” While it is not clear if Sony is collecting additional data from before, the requirement to agree to such data collection does appear to be new.

The message states that two sets of data can be collected from your PS4. The first of these is service data, which Sony defines as “data necessary to provide online services.” The second–“additional data”–includes “navigation, usage, and settings data.”

A separate “about device data” screen states Sony needs to send, receive, and log data about which apps you use and content you consume. For example, it may need to know which shows you watch in a video app in order to pay licensors for that content, while some online games will need to know your characters’ movements in order to communicate that to other players online. Other service data includes your network configuration, devices you have connected to your PS4 (such as controllers and PSVR headsets), error data, legal data, and load time data.

Additional data, meanwhile, can include detailed information like “when and how you use the game’s user interface, which parts of the game level you visit, which weapons you use, and which characters you interact with.” It can also include which sections of the PlayStation Store you visit and which system settings you alter. You can decline to provide your additional data, but once you’ve installed the update there is no way to proceed without agreeing to the collection of service data.

Sony says it uses device data to produce anonymous statistics, understand and improve performance of new products, detect and minimize fraudulent or unauthorized behaviour, and, if you agree to the collection of the additional data, deliver you personalized ads.

GameSpot staff in the US did not receive the above messages. It’s not clear if Sony is accessing more data from European users than before the update or if it is simply disclosing its data collection more clearly now due to impending changes to data collection regulations in the European Union. The regulations, dubbed GDPR, come into force in May 2018, so Sony may simply be preparing for the upcoming change in law. GameSpot has contacted Sony for clarification.

343 Lays Out Upcoming Halo: Master Chief Collection Changes

343 has explained some of the coming changes set to hit the Halo: Master Chief Collection in the near future.

Detailed in a Halo Waypoint developer update, the planned changes follow what was promised late last year and include public flighting which is essentially releasing unfinished builds for testing to some members of the Master Chief Collection insider program.

The Master Chief Collection has had matchmaking issues since its release and the first public flight is set to test new matchmaking updates added to Halo 2’s Team Slayer mode on a few maps. To be included in these tests, players do not need to own a copy of the Master Chief Collection as it is a standalone download, but owning the game will increase your chances of being selected.
