The 12 Worst Video Game Movies Ever

Every genre of film has a few stinkers, but the video game movie genre has more than its fair share. After all these years, Hollywood has yet to give us a better video game adaptation than Mortal Kombat, though certainly not for lack of trying. This spring, we’re seeing two more big-budget adaptations thanks to the Tomb Raider reboot (read our review) and Rampage.

Hollywood keeps trying, that’s for sure! And it would be pretty hard to sink lower than the following 12 abysmal video game movies anyway…

Tomb Raider is in theaters now. Find out why star Alicia Vikander wants her version of Lara Croft to be ‘more relatable’ than Angelina Jolie’s. Then learn about the ways in which the recent Tomb Raider games have influenced the movie.

Last Jedi: Mark Hamill’s Theory on What Happened to Luke

Star Wars: The Last Jedi features a significant moment for Luke Skywalker at the end of the film, and Mark Hamill has shared his theory on what happened to his character during that key scene.

Warning: Star Wars: The Last Jedi spoilers follow.

During the The Creative Minds series, which features various U.S. artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, and digital culture innovators to speak with young Irish audiences, Hamill—who attended as the International Guest of Honor—recalled his experience working on The Last Jedi, noting the ending left him with some questions and a theory of his own.

“I said to them, I said, ‘Are you going to just have the metal hand clang down on the rock?'” Hamill said when recounting his reaction to finding out about how Luke disappears/dies at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. “I said to Rian

Rusev’s WWE Wrestlemania Open Challenge Answered By Macaulay Culkin

Smackdown‘s Rusev doesn’t have any Wrestlemania plans as of yet, so he took to Twitter to find a celebrity to fight, and many answered the call, including WWE fan and Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin. The two engaged in a delightful Twitter exchange, in which Culkin surely had the upper-hand.

On March 14, Rusev put the challenge out on Twitter, saying, “I need a celebrity to fight me at #WrestleMania34.” The next day, former WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson replied, “Kevin Hart. He’ll put you over but you gotta kayfabe his STD.” In addition, Pitch Perfect‘s Skyler Astin also answered the call as well, while Arrow‘s Stephen Amell–who has worked with WWE previously–said he’s terrified of Rusev.

However, no one answered Rusev’s call better than Macaulay Culkin, who has worked with WWE in the past, most notably by pulling pranks of Chavo Guererro.

Rusev replied that he couldn’t hit Richie Rich or Kevin McAllister, two characters Culkin played as a child. He quickly retorted with this gem.

WWE has a longstanding tradition of putting celebrities in the ring at Wrestlemania. Mr. T fought in the main events for Wrestlemania 1 and 2, and former NFL linebacker Lawrence Taylor fought in the main event of Wrestlemania 11. At Wrestlemania 34, former UFC star Ronda Rousey is involved in a match as well. Celebrities have been a part of WWE’s yearly event since its existence, even outside of the main event matches.

At this time, there is no confirmation as to whether this match will take place, or if Rusev will fight anyone at this year’s Wrestlemania. However, this is strangely a match that the WWE Universe would love to see. Make sure to keep checking back to GameSpot for the upcoming weeks for more news, features, and predictions about WWE’s biggest event of the year.

GTA 5 Sure Can Look Terrible On PC

Grand Theft Auto V can be a visual showpiece on a PC at max settings, thanks to its well-realized world and sheer impressive scope. But what if you took all those standout graphical features and made them awful? What nightmarish body horror would ensue? Unfortunately, we now know the answer.

On this episode of Potato Mode, Joey and Rob intentionally muck up the city of Los Santos. The pair start by turning all the graphical settings down as low as possible, but the result is a surprisingly decent-looking version of the game. Not content to accept defeat in their quest to destroy beautiful things, they start editing background files to manually edit the level-of-detail settings. And that’s when things get weird.

From N64-like textures and fog to cars disappearing into the ground to character models becoming faceless clay-beasts, this particular tour of the fair city is not for the faint of heart. It all ends up the only place it could end: at a strip club, where the talent has morphed into vaguely human, vaguely naked blobs.

Infinity War is the culmination of Marvel’s years-long cinematic universe. It brings in a veritable gaggle of heroes from across various Marvel cinematic properties into one film to fight their looming big-bad, the space warlord Thanos. The story will be based on the Infinity War comic series from the early 1990s, and Marvel films have been hinting heavily at this ultimate story direction since Thanos appeared in a cameo in the post-credits sequence of the first Avengers film.

The new trailer (above) shows several characters across the Marvel spectrum interacting for the first time, like Spider-Man and Dr. Strange. The comics were similarly chock full of heroes, but it being a large event book against a foe with god-like powers, that also meant some high-profile deaths. We expect the movie to follow suit, so prepare yourselves accordingly. You can check out our trailer breakdown of all the easter eggs while you wait for the big day.

Why Does Thanos Want to Kill Half the Universe in Avengers: Infinity War?

The new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War features a key piece of information courtesy of Gamora. She reveals Thanos’ main goal is “to wipe out half the universe,” also adding the how of it all: “If he gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with a snap of his fingers.”

This master plan is pulled directly from The Infinity Gauntlet comic written by Jim Starlin and pencilled by George Pérez and Ron Lim where Thanos uses the power of the completed Infinity Gauntlet to instantly kill half of the living beings in existence. He does this as a tribute to Mistress Death in hopes of gaining her favor. Yup, Thanos is essentially in love with the Grim Reaper and is eager to murder his way to her heart. And he does just that with a literal snap of his fingers. Gamora wasn’t kidding!

Another Nintendo Switch Presentation Is Airing Next Week

Nintendo is giving Switch owners another glimpse at some of the many intriguing titles on the way for the console soon. The company announced on Twitter today that it is streaming another presentation next week, this one focusing entirely on indie games coming to Switch.

The Nindies Showcase, as the broadcast is dubbed, airs on Tuesday, March 20, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. Nintendo hasn’t revealed how long the presentation will run, but it will highlight the “hottest upcoming indie games for Nintendo Switch.” You’ll be able to stream the Nindies Showcase on Nintendo’s website.

Aside from that, we know very little about next week’s presentation. Nintendo hasn’t specified which games it will showcase during the broadcast, although there are a a few we can reasonably expect to see, such as Runner3; publisher Nicalis recently confirmed that title will launch for Switch (as well as PC) on May 22.

The Nindies Showcase will mark the second presentation Nintendo has aired this month, following last week’s Nintendo Direct. That broadcast contained a ton of announcements about many of Nintendo’s biggest upcoming Switch games, including new details on Mario Tennis Aces, a release date for Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and the surprise reveal of Super Smash Bros. for Switch. You can see all of the major announcements from that presentation in our Nintendo Direct news roundup.

Infinity War Poster Confirms Peter Dinklage Is in the Film

The latest poster for Avengers: Infinity War confirms Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is in the Marvel ensemble film.

Though Dinklage is nowhere to be found in the new Infinity War trailer, his name can be spotted on the bottom of the poster right next to Idris Elba (Heimdall) and Benedict Wong (Wong). It’s currently not known who exactly Dinklage plays in the movie.

Reports last year suggested Dinklage was up for a major role in Infinity War. Since then, there’s been speculation as to who that character might be, and there are several options. For one, Dinklage could be portraying Pip the Troll, who has been a key player in Marvel’s more cosmic stories.

Martin Freeman Says Being in Sherlock Is Not Fun Anymore

Dr. Watson himself Martin Freeman has said it’s not enjoyable to be in Sherlock anymore.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Freeman revealed it’s unlikely the show will return, and that’s partly due to how Season 4 has been received by fans.

“Not massively,” Freeman said, speaking about if there have been talks of making Season 5. “Um… I think after series four

felt like a pause. I think we felt we’d done it for a bit now. And part of it, speaking for myself is

the reception of it.”

Freeman further elaborated, saying it’s been difficult to maintain Sherlock’s high quality over the years because of just how well it was critically received from the outset. As a result, with such high expectations, Freeman thinks it’s no longer fun to work on Sherlock now.
