Nintendo Launches User Reviews, But Removes Them Right Away And Doesn’t Explain Why

Recently, Nintendo quietly added functionality to its website that allowed users to submit game reviews, but it didn’t take long before Nintendo reversed course. A message on a game page on Nintendo’s website now explains that “customer reviews” have been removed from all pages as the company “evaluate[s] this feature and its functionality.”

Nintendo went on thank fans for their feedback about the feature, including those who “provided such thoughtful commentary on the games.” However, Nintendo said it has no estimate as of yet for when it might provide an update on user reviews, let alone bring them back.

The user review system for Nintendo games was brought to light by Reddit user phantomliger. Before the feature was pulled, it allowed verified users to rate a game out of five stars. When you clicked the “Review This Game” button, the system apparently did a check on your account, only allowing you to review the game if you’d played for at least two hours. If allowed to review, you could write your own commentary and also select pre-made descriptions such as “Fun to Play,” “Immersive,” Great Value,” and others, according to Shacknews.

Nintendo hasn’t explained why it removed the customer review functionality from its website. One potential area of concern with user reviews is the threat of “review bombing.” As we’ve seen on Steam, gamers can tank the overall rating of a title by submitting many low review scores in a short period of time. When controversial current events about a game, potentially, unrelated to its gameplay or design come up, some groups of people may take it upon themselves to express their frustration by review bombing a game. On the other hand, user reviews are a good way to get a quick snapshot of a game’s overall perceived quality to help you make a purchase decision, and it’s especially meaningful when you must play a game to review it.

Netflix Planning To Have More TV Than You’ll Ever Watch By The End Of 2018

In case it wasn’t already painfully obvious, Netflix is working really hard to be the only thing people watch for their entertainment. With every passing week, the service is adding original TV shows and movies, continuing to build their library–and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

According to Variety, the streamer will have a total of roughly 700 original TV shows by the end of 2018–80 of which will be non-English programming. That figure doesn’t include movies. Netflix previously announced they’d be spending nearly $8 billion on content in 2018, so they’re definitely not hurting for money when it comes to making shows.

The month of March is a perfect example is Netflix’s content strategy. In addition to new episodes of The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, 52 new originals will debut on the streaming platform–32 of which are TV shows–next month. Of them all, chances are the second seasons of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Santa Clarita Diet are the only ones the general public is aware of.

There will also be plenty of movies coming this year, with Netflix planning to release 80 original films in 2018. Thus far, the streamer has released big name titles like Bright, The Cloverfield Paradox, and Mute to a less-than-stellar critical reception. It has also released the first trailer for Adam Sandler’s The Week Of, which debuts in April.

Horizon Zero Dawn Sells 7.6 Million Copies, Setting New PS4 Record

Horizon Zero Dawn has now sold an astonishing 7.6 million copies worldwide following its launch a year ago today. Sales at that level make the RPG from the creators of Killzone the “most successful new first-party franchise launch on PS4” to date, Sony said.

“We had huge ambition for Horizon Zero Dawn and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind blowing,” Guerrilla Games boss Hermen Hulst said in a statement.

Horizon Zero Dawn was released on February 28, 2017, so it’s now exactly one year old. The RPG sold 2.6 million units sold in its first two weeks and 3.4 million as of June 2017. Of those, 915,000 were digital, but no new update on the physical/digital mix was provided today.

To celebrate the milestone, Guerrilla is giving away Horizon Zero Dawn-thened PS4 avatars for characters from the game, including Aloy. A PS4 theme featuring fan-made Photo Mode shots will also be available for free; both items will be available on March 1.

Additionally, for the entirety of March, the Modern Icons Aloy statue is 25 percent off from the PlayStation Gear store. All you have to do is enter the code “anniversary” at checkout.

And if you still haven’t played the game itself, it is marked down nicely right now on the PlayStation Store. As part of the Critic’s Choice sale, you can get the game for only $32.50. Go to the PlayStation Blog to see a full rundown of how Guerrilla is celebrating.

An expansion, The Frozen Wilds, was released in November 2017. You can get the game and the expansion Horizon Zero Dawn’s Complete Edition.

Watch Us Play Overwatch’s New Hero, Brigitte

After weeks of cryptic teases, Blizzard has finally unveiled the newest character for Overwatch, and as many have speculated, it’s Brigitte. Torbjörn’s daughter marks the 27th character to join the roster, and she comes with a few unique tricks to help set her apart from the other support heroes in the game.

Blizzard describes Brigitte as “an engineer with peerless armor-constructing abilities,” and those characteristics shine through in her abilities on the battlefield. Her primary weapon is the Rocket Flail, which has an extended range and can smash multiple opponents at once. In addition to that, she brandishes a Barrier Shield, which can protect any teammates directly behind her. She can also toss Repair Packs to heal teammates, while her passive ability, Inspire, heals nearby allies over time when she lands blows on enemies.

These skills combine to make Brigitte a rather unique addition to the Overwatch roster, acting like a mixture of Reinhardt and her father. While she isn’t available in the live game just yet, PC players do have a chance to try her out right now on the Public Test Realm. If you’re watching for her to launch on PS4 or Xbox One but are still curious to see Brigitte in action, we took her for a spin today on the latest episode of GameSpot Live–though as is always the case, her final attributes could change by the time she makes it to the live game. You can watch a replay of our stream above.

If you’re interested in learning more about the newest Overwatch hero, you can watch Brigitte’s origin story trailer here. You can also learn more about her in the latest Overwatch developer update and read about Brigitte’s backstory and special abilities here.

Heathers Series Premiere Delayed After Florida Shooting

The series premiere for Paramount Network’s TV adaptation of Heathers has been delayed following the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

The show was originally supposed to premiere on March 7. No new release date has been set yet. Paramount Network has provided the following statement addressing the delay:

“Paramount Network’s original series Heathers is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence. While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.”

Whether You Like It Or Not, A New Adam Sandler Movie Is Coming Soon

No matter what you think of films, Adam Sandler is a hit machine in terms of numbers and widespread appeal. So it was a big deal when Netflix signed Sandler for a four-movie deal back in 2014, bypassing theatrical releases for the digital streamer. Netflix doubled down on that deal last year, signing Sandler for a further four films. The latest of these, The Week Of, is coming April, and now a new trailer for the comedy has arrived.

In The Week Of, Sandler plays a middle class father who wants to pay for his daughter’s wedding. Opposite him is the father of the groom (Chris Rock), who is wealthy and eager to foot the bill for a wedding that doesn’t take place in a run-down hotel. A bunch of unfortunate things happen, leading the two men and their families to live together under the same roof for “the longest week of their lives” leading up to the wedding.

The Week Of debuts on Netflix on April 27. It also stars Rachel Dratch and Steve Buscemi (and a giant Toberlone bar).

This is Sandler’s fourth Netflix movie so far, following The Ridiculous Six (2015), The Do-Over (2016), and Sandy Wexler (2017). Sandler also starred in and gave a widely praised performance in the Netflix movie The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), but this was outside of his own Netflix deal.

Sandler’s last big theatrical movie, the 2015 video game film Pixels, was a bit of a letdown with only $78 million in the United States. However, it made more than $166 million internationally, pushing its global haul to around $244 million.

Full House Creator Fired In Wake Of Inappropriate Behavior Allegations

Jeff Franklin, the TV veteran who created Full House, and its more recent revival Fuller House, has been fired from the new show in the wake of claims about inappropriate behavior. Variety reports today that Warner Bros. TV, which produces Fuller House, said it will not renew its deal with Franklin. He also serves as the program’s showrunner.

Multiple sources told Variety that Warner Bros. TV received “complaints about Franklin’s behavior in the writers’ room and on the set of the series.” Franklin, 63, was accused of being “verbally abusive to staffers,” including making “sexually charged comments” about his own relationships and sex life. The report goes on to say that Franklin has not been accused of direct sexual harassment or inappropriate physical behavior with anyone who works on Fuller House, though he stands accused of bringing his personal romantic interests to the set and then giving them small parts in the show.

According to one source speaking to Variety, an anonymous letter was sent to Warner Bros. TV executives “more than two years” ago regarding these allegations, though it is unclear if the company looked into the matter at the time.

Warner Bros. TV said in a statement that Franklin “will no longer be working on Fuller House.” Franklin’s lawyer declined to comment. In the report, it is claimed that Franklin was referred to by some as “a walking lawsuit waiting to happen.”

Although Franklin is heading out, Fuller House will continue. A spokesperson for Netflix confirmed today that the planned fourth season is still being produced as scheduled. Production on the show is expected to begin “in the next few months.”
