Pokemon Go August Community Day Makes It Much Easier To Get Sylveon

Pokemon Go‘s August Community Day will be held across two days rather than one, developer Niantic has announced. The event will take place August 14-15 and will feature Eevee, giving you another chance to get some Shiny Eevee evolutions.

As the featured Pokemon, Eevee will be appearing more frequently in the wild than usual throughout the entire weekend, meaning you’ll also have an increased chance of finding a Shiny. Any Shiny Eevee that you evolve will retain its Shiny coloration, making this a good opportunity to add some Shiny Eevee evolutions to your collection.

Additionally, Niantic is making it easier to get Sylveon. Typically, you need to earn 70 hearts when Eevee is set as your buddy in order to evolve it into Sylveon. For August’s Community Day, however, Niantic is reducing the number of buddy hearts you need to earn to only seven.

Eevee will also learn a different Community Day-exclusive move depending on which form you evolve it into. Any Eevee that you evolve between August 13-16 will automatically know the following attacks:

  • Vaporeon: Scald
  • Jolteon: Zap Cannon
  • Flareon: Superpower
  • Espeon: Shadow Ball
  • Umbreon: Psychic
  • Leafeon: Bullet Seed
  • Glaceon: Water Pulse
  • Sylveon: Psyshock

As usual, a few bonuses will be live during August’s Community Day as well. First, any Lure Modules and Incense that you use during the event hours will remain active for three hours. On top of that, eggs that are placed into incubators will hatch at a quarter of their usual distance. Finally, Niantic will sell a special Community Day bundle in Pokemon Go’s in-game shop. The bundle costs 1,280 PokeCoins and includes the following:

  • 50 Ultra Balls
  • 5 Incense
  • 1 Elite Fast TM
  • 1 Elite Charged TM

Each day of August’s Community Day weekend will run from 11 AM to 5 PM local time. You can read more details about the event on the official Pokemon Go blog.

In the meantime, Niantic has three Ultra Unlock events lined up for Pokemon Go. Ultra Unlock Part 1: Time kicks off July 23 and features Pokemon from across different eras, including Shiny Dialga. Ultra Unlock Part 2: Space follows starting August 6 and features Pokemon from different regions, as well as Shiny Palkia. The third and final Ultra Unlock event will begin on August 20, but Niantic is keeping details on that under wraps for now.

Bungie: Games Industry Must ‘Push Back On a Persistent Culture Of Harassment’

As the fallout from the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard by the state of California for sexual discrimination continues to shake the games industry, Bungie has published a lengthy statement on its Twitter standing against harassment and discrimination.

“Bungie is built on empowering our people no matter who they are, where they are from, or how they identify,” Bungie’s statement begins. The six-tweet thread reaffirms Bungie’s zero-tolerance policy against discrimination and its commitment to rooting out toxic culture.

The statement also acknowledges a need to reflect on the endemic problems within the games industry. “We don’t pretend that Bungie is perfect and that no one has experienced harassment while working here,” Bungie writes. “But we will not tolerate it and will confront it head one. And we will continue to do the work every day to be better.”

Bungie says that “the accounts in this week’s news are difficult to read,” but the company hopes it will “lead to justice, awareness, and accountability.” Bungie’s statement is one of the few company statements that have come out since yesterday’s bombshell lawsuit.

California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard this week in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Following a two-year investigation, the DFEH found Activision Blizzard discriminated against female employees at nearly all levels of employment in regards to compensation, promotion, assignments, and terminations.

The DFEH’s report says, Activision Blizzard assigned women and women of color to “lower paid and lower opportunity levels” and with salaries lower than their male counterparts for the same work. Activision Blizzard rebuked the DFEH’s report and you can read the company’s full statement in our report.

Bungie was previously partnered with Activision for eight years with the two companies working together on Bungie’s flagship franchise Destiny. In 2019, Bungie and Activision parted ways and Bungie assumed full publishing and development responsibilities on the Destiny franchise.

Bungie concluded its Twitter statement by writing, “Our goal is to continue to improve the experience for everyone working at Bungie and do our part to make the gaming industry as a whole to be more welcoming and inclusive.”

PUBG Mobile Blasted For Allegedly Using Hypnospace Outlaw Name and Colors To Sell Cosmetic Bundle

PUBG Mobile is under fire for its new cosmetic bundle, which indie developer Jay Tholen is saying was lifted directly from Hypnospace Outlaw.

Released earlier today, the new Hypnospace Diva Set features the same name and a very similar color palette as the 2019 indie release, which satirizes the internet circa 1999. Tholen took notice a few hours later, blasting the cosmetic bundle for using the name to ‘sell a tacky costume.’

Tholen elaborated in separate comments to NME, “When I initially saw the image and that it was titled ‘Hypnospace Diva’ I assumed someone created a more feminine fan art version of the goldish yellow figure in our key art. The colors, even extending to the background, match quite closely.”

Tholen saw the image on his social feeds shortly after it was released. Tholen says he was unaware that it was a commercial project until it was posted on the game’s Discord server, calling the initiative “confounding.”

Cross-promotional events have become quite common in service games like PUBG Mobile. Just this morning, Genshin Impact announced that it was adding Horizon Zero Dawn’s main protagonist, Aloy. In this instance, though, the preponderance of evidence suggests that PUBG Mobile publisher Tencent simply lifted the branding from Hypnospace Outlaw for its cosmetic bundle.

IGN has reached out to PUBG Mobile representatives for comment and will update this post accordingly with any responses.

Borderlands 3 Senior Devs Leave Gearbox To Start New Project

Multiple senior members of the Borderlands 3 development team are leaving Gearbox Software to work on a new project together. But Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford says that the split is amicable, according to Axios.

Axios reported that senior producer Christopher Brock, lead mission designer Keith Schuler, and art director Scott Kester, along with creative director Paul Sage, lead character artist Kevin Penrod, and UX director Christ Strasz are all leaving Gearbox, some of whom have been at the studio for over a decade.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”slug=tiny-tinas-wonderland-summer-game-fest-screenshots&captions=true”]

The 7 senior developers left to work on a new project together. Almost all of them were previously working on an unannounced Gearbox project that was currently in pre-production.

However, Pitchford says that their departure “will cause minimal disruption in our current plans,” and that new team members are being over to this project. Pitchford added that a bulk of Gearbox’s devs are focused on finishing Tiny Tina’s Wonderland “which is on-track,” Pitchford says.

Normally a departure of veterans might be cause for concern, but according to Axios developers at Gearbox have expressed excitement that “fresh blood” will now be leading the project they left behind.

Gearbox is currently all-in on Borderlands. Alongside Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, Gearbox is also helping produce a feature-film adaptation starring Cate Blanchette and Kevin Hart. Read IGN’s Borderlands 3 review for our impressions of the most recent mainline Borderlands game.

Best PS5 Controller 2021: PlayStation Controllers, Fight Sticks, And Racing Wheels

The PlayStation 5 ships with an incredible new first-party controller, the DualSense, and in 2021, it’s undoubtedly the best PS5 controller to own and buy multiples of, especially now that it comes in three different colors. But while compatible third-party PS5 controller options are currently somewhat slim, some of the best PS4 controllers are directly compatible with Sony’s next-gen console, while others can be used with backwards compatible PS4 games on PS5.

Whether you’re looking for the best PS5 controller for general use (spoiler: It’s the DualSense) or options for fighting games, racing games, and streaming Netflix, there are a handful of great controllers we recommend using with the PS5 from reliable brands like Logitech, Razer, and Trustmaster. Though this list will most certainly continue to grow and evolve as we get further into the PS5’s lifespan, here are the best PS5 controller options to consider so far. And for more great gamepads, see the best Switch controllers and best Xbox controllers for 2021.

I Expect You To Die 2: The Spy and the Liar Makes Excellent Use of its Medium

If your spy shoes have gotten dusty since Schell Games’ previous VR puzzler, I Expect You To Die, then you’re in luck. Schell Games’ I Expect You To Die 2: The Spy and the Liar is the upcoming sequel to the spy puzzler that launched back in 2016. Much like the first, this is a seated VR game that makes good use of a compact play area, and it’s heavy on tactile physics-based interactions that make you use your hands to solve puzzles rather than do combat.

The Spy and the Liar spans about six levels that aim to take you deeper into the lore behind the mysterious Zoraxis corporation that was established in the first game, and I recently got to play through the first three of those levels. Specifically, I played through the grand stage, the luxury airliner, and the tinker’s workshop. Without spoiling any of the individual solutions that I used in order to get through the first half of the campaign, each level offers a unique and interesting way to interact directly with the environment, but there’s generally only one path to the end. That must be figured out through trial and error, however, and it’s easy to die by accident and need to start over.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”slug=i-expect-you-to-die-2-the-spy-and-the-liar-screenshots&captions=true”]

But at least there are some genuinely interesting zones here. For instance, the tinker’s workshop and the luxury airliner are totally different from one another. Not only are they both visually unique – filled with interesting props that make them both feel lived-in and real when you’re inside the VR headset – but the way you unravel the puzzle in both areas makes creative use of those props. What struck me the most is how interactive each environment is. As you play through a level, for instance, you will gradually uncover new compartments and sections that were cleverly hidden before. At one point, I needed to deflect an oncoming laser that would have surely killed me, so I grabbed a steel platter from a nearby bar cart. Underneath that steel platter was a bottle of booze that I uncorked and took a swig from. Across the aisle, I found a cigar dispenser and a lighter, and upon lighting up the cigar I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it had exploded in my face. As you feel your way through each level, you will run into a ton of these different types of interactions, and they all feel right at home in VR.

I previewed I Expect You To Die 2 on the Oculus Quest 2, so I can’t speak to how well it will run on other platforms. But I can at least say that the overall visual detail is astounding on the Quest 2, which keeps things consistent and smooth even when you’re finagling with a bunch of physics objects. I did run into a few situations where an object with which I needed to solve a puzzle fell outside of my field of view or behind a piece of geometry where I could no longer grab it from a distance, but it’s convenient then that levels are structured so that once you know the solutions to earlier bits of the overarching puzzle, you can easily restart the level and quickly get back to the point where you lost your place.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/06/12/i-expect-you-to-die-2-announcement-trailer”]

The environments that I Expect You To Die 2 places you into are tight and compact, and you never need to swivel or crane your head too much or move too far out of the comfort of your seat in order to do stuff. As I mentioned earlier, your hands can extend outward and grab far away objects as needed. This is also helpful for plucking stuff off of ledges or opening distant containers which may contain clues, buttons, or other key items. It all feels great.

[poilib element=”quoteBox” parameters=”excerpt=When%20you%E2%80%99re%20sitting%20inside%20of%20the%20headset%2C%20this%20007-style%20opener%20is%20satisfyingly%20entertaining.”]

Another part that struck me is the fantastic opening sequence. There’s an entire song and dance bit featuring I Expect You To Die 2’s main villain, Jon Juniper, played by Wil Wheaton. It’s impossible to convey the cool factor when you’re reading about it on text, but when you’re sitting inside of the headset, this 007-style opener is satisfyingly entertaining. Even the staging area between missions has cool, interactive stuff to find. For instance, you can rummage through photos and documents that fill in background lore for each of the levels you visit. There’s no real gameplay impact to looking at these, but they add a cool effect to the staging area, making it feel like you’re really a spy with your own collection of intel.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/21/i-expect-you-to-die-2-the-spy-and-the-liar-gameplay-trailer”]

I Expect You To Die 2 is promising to be a short if densely packed spy-thriller VR puzzle game that builds upon the world first introduced in 2016’s I Expect You To Die. If you love physics interactions in VR or want to play a VR game that doesn’t invoke a lot of motion sickness, being that this is entirely set in a confined zone with little in the way of movement, you may find your next VR fix right here when I Expect You To Die 2 launches on August 24.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Will Get A Tomb Raider Crossover Event For 20-Year Anniversary

The online tactical shooter Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is poised to receive some new content in celebration of the franchise’s 20-year anniversary, including a new crossover treasure hunt event themed around Tomb Raider.

The event is titled Relics of the Ancients and is connected to the 20-year anniversary content celebration, alongside an upcoming livestream revealing the Operation Motherland season. Neither have release dates, according to Ghost Recon’s Twitter account, but are said to arrive this year.

Ubisoft allegedly teased Operation Motherland back in April 2021. Fans took to both Reddit and the company’s official forum pages to post their speculative thoughts on what this could be, with some suggesting it might have something to do with CIA deputy director of operations Peter Miles. Others say it doesn’t matter because Breakpoint is “dead on arrival.”

In addition to the two headlining content additions, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint players can participate in various game-related events, like community contests, free giveaways, an anniversary showcase, and “more” throughout the rest of 2021. Similarly, none of these upcoming events have start dates.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint received a hefty update in May that addressed the game’s AI-controlled teammates. To make them more competent, players now have access to a progression loop, effectively making the AI suck less.

In other Ghost Recon-related news, Ubisoft has unveiled XDefiant, a free-to-play “punk rock” shooter that smashes together Tom Clancy properties like The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell with live service elements.
