Rare Sealed SNES Trove Discovered By German Retailer

Vintage video games aren’t hard to come by these days, but finding a game in mint and sealed condition? Now that’s a rarity. As spotted by Nintendo Life, German retailer Galeria Kaufhof happens to have stumbled on a box of forgotten SNES games and has even put a few of them up for sale.

If you’ve been looking to add Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals–which was known simply as Lufia in Europe–to your collection, you can grab the game for a modest $95 for a copy that still has that factory-fresh smell sealed inside of it.

Now Playing: 20 Minutes Of The SNES Classic In Action

The catch here is that you can only reserve a copy on Galeria Kaufhof’s website, as you’ll need to go pick it up yourself in person. This version also includes a strategy guide to go along with its manual, adding to its value.

Retro gaming is currently in the crosshairs of the speculators market, and over the last few months, the price of some titles has increased dramatically, similar to the comic book boom that recently saw Spider-Man’s first comic book appearance sell for $3.6 million.

Heritage Auctions has been in the spotlight regarding these deals, as well as increased scrutiny as a recent 52-minute video investigation by journalist Karl Jobst alleged that that Wata president and CEO Deniz worked with Heritage Auctions co-founder Jim Halperin worked together to create a bubble economy for old video games.

Heritage denied these allegations and released a statement that it was not involved in any illegal or unethical practices.

WoW: Burning Crusade Classic Adds Two New Raids, Guild Banks, And More

Players can now venture into Serpentshrine Cavern to confront Lady Vashj or ascend to The Eye of Tempest Keep to defeat Kael’thas Sunstrider in World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic’s first content update, Overlords of Outland.

While the update, which goes live today, makes it so the new raids are technically available, a lengthy attunement process is required to step into each instance. Players will need to have completed multiple other raids, lengthy quest chains, and heroic dungeons in order to actually get the ability to participate in Burning Crusade Classic’s new content. The update also marks the start of a new Arena season, complete with new gear to earn, as well as introduces two new factions to earn reputation with in exchange for rewards.

Outside of new content, the update adds heavily anticipated features like guild banks. Prior to this point, guild leaders would often make multiple level one characters and use their bag space and bank storage to hold the guild’s various crafting materials and supplies. That process became cumbersome quickly, with those operating the guild banks needing to log out of their main character, log in with a bank character (or several), and coordinate materials between them all. Guild banks simplify this process greatly, letting members deposit and withdraw items with ease.

While it’s not the automated matchmaking tool introduced in later expansions, Overlords of Outland also brings with it a group browser in-game tool. This allows players to list their party, or themselves, available for various activities like dungeons, raids, PvP, or questing in the tool, from which they can send invites or be invited themselves more easily. Prior to the tool, players recruited for dungeon parties or raid members by simply using the game’s chat functions and manually inviting players to groups.

Overlords of Outland arrives as Blizzard looks to clean up its culture both in-game and out in the wake of a state of California lawsuit accusing Activision Blizzard of fostering a culture of harassment and discrimination towards women. Following the lawsuit’s allegations, Blizzard has pledged to remove inappropriate content from World of Warcraft, which will include the removal of multiple references to former Blizzard developers like Jesse McCree in the upcoming 9.1.5 patch for Shadowlands.

Star Wars And Game Of Thrones Star Joins Netflix’s Wednesday

Actor Gwendoline Christie, who played Captain Phasma in the Star Wars franchise and Brienne of Tarth in the Game of Thrones franchise, has joined Tim Burton’s upcoming series reimagining of The Addams Family for Netflix.

The announcement came via a release from the streaming service, which also indicates that Christie will play Larissa Weems, “the principal of Nevermore Academy who still has an axe to grind with her former classmate Morticia Addams.” Christie is the latest to join an ever-growing ensemble, which also recently added 10 actors in August. All these names round out the already impressive recent announcement that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman will be starring, respectively, as Morticia and Gomez Addams.

Burton will serve as director and executive producer on the eight-episode series. Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) will serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Burton and Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman.

According to the official synopsis for Wednesday, “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago–all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Anthony Mackie To Star In Deadpool Writers’ Twisted Metal TV Show

MCU star Anthony Mackie will play the lead character, John Doe, in the upcoming TV series based on the Sony video game Twisted Metal. As announced previously, Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick came up with the idea for the show. Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) is writing the series.

According to Deadline, the producers at Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation Productions are “extremely high on” the show and will begin to shop it around to networks soon.

“We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating,” PlayStation Productions boss Asad Qizilbash said.

Deadline also has the details on the TV show’s story. It will follow Mackie’s Doe, who is a “motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.”

“With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck,” reads a line from the show’s description. “Doe is a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, Doe gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.”

Mackie is perhaps best known for his MCU role as Sam Wilson/Falcon in a number of MCU films. Next up he will play Captain America in the next entry in the series.

A new Twisted Metal video game is also said to be in development to create a synergistic effect with the TV show, but it has not been officially announced.

Marvel’s What If…? Episode 6 Cast: Every Returning (and Replaced) MCU Actor

Warning: Full spoilers follow for Marvel’s What If…? Episodes 1-6.

The MCU-based What If…? animated series is finally here, and it features many of the actual MCU actors from the movies voicing their iconic characters. At the same time, some actors aren’t back to reprise their roles as part of the What If…? cast.

In the sixth episode, What If…? explored an alternate timeline where Tony Stark never became Iron Man thanks to a rescue by Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger. Stark’s life – and perhaps the entire Avengers Initiative – is changed drastically by this, and many of our favorite characters fall to Killmonger’s hand during his quest for vengeance.

Each episode features new and returning characters from the MCU, and we are here to document each one so you can keep track of which voice actors are returning to their roles, which aren’t, and what these new versions of our favorite heroes look like. We’re updating this article throughout the season so be sure to check back each week!

What If…? Episode 6 Cast: What If… Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?

Tony Stark / Iron Man – Mick Wingert

Tony Stark’s life, and perhaps the entire Avengers initiative, was changed the most in this week’s story when Killmonger showed up to save him from the attack by the Ten Rings. Not only does he never become Iron Man, but he also falls to Killmonger after initially putting so much trust in him. Mick Wingert once again voices Tony Stark instead of Robert Downey Jr after making his first appearance in Episode 3.

Killmonger – Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan is back as Killmonger in this week’s episode and he lives up to the villain we were introduced to in Black Panther. In this alternate universe, however, he saves Tony Stark from the Ten Rings and becomes his trusted ally. Unbeknownst to many he encounters throughout this story, he has an ulterior motive with not only Tony – who he indirectly prevents from ever becoming Iron Man – but also with Ulysses Klaue, General Ross, and T’Chaka. Luckily, not everyone is fooled by his actions.

Happy Hogan – Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau returns to play a Happy Hogan who was passed up for his Stark Industries’ Chief Security Officer promotion when Tony Stark selected Lt. Eric Stevens/Killmonger for the job after his life was saved by him.

T’Challa / Black Panther – Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman once again takes up the role of T’Challa and Black Panther in this sixth episode, but he falls to Killmonger when trying to stop him from purchasing Vibranium from Ulysses Klaue.

Queen Ramonda – Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett lent her voice once again to Queen Ramonda, and we get to see her warrior side take center stage in the battle against the Liberators.

Okoye – Danai Gurira

As we seem to say every week, the wonderful Danai Gurira is back again as Okoye and she does what she does best – protect Wakanda and those who call it home.

Ulysses Klaue – Andy Serkis

Ulysses Klaue makes an appearance in this episode of Marvel’s What If…? and Andy Serkis returns to voice the arms dealer who meets a fate similar to the one he had in the MCU.

Rhodey – Don Cheadle

Since there is no Iron Man in this alternate timeline, that means there is also no War Machine/Iron Patriot. Despite that, James “Rhodey” Rhodes still has a role to play and Don Cheadle returns to voice him. Too bad he also has an unhappy ending thanks to Killmonger.

Jarvis – Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany is back as Tony Stark’s AI friend Jarvis, as this story takes place before he becomes Vision and is given physical form.

Christine Everhart – Leslie Bibb

Leslie Bibb makes her second appearance as Christine Everhart in Marvel’s What If…? and continues the trend of asking Tony Stark the tough questions.

T’Chaka – John Kani

John Kani is back as T’Chaka and puts his full trust in Killmonger after he “saves” Wakanda from an attack the villain secretly orchestrated. He even makes Killmonger the next Black Panther.

Obadiah Stane – Kiff Vandenheuvel

While Obidiah Stane returned for a new story in Marvel’s What If…?, Jeff Bridges did not. Instead, Kiff Vendenheuvel took on the role of Tony Stark’s business partner who was secretly plotting his demise. Vendenheuvel has appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Officer Mazzuccheli, and in both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PS4/PS5.

Pepper Potts – Beth Hoyt

Gwyneth Paltrow did not return as Pepper Potts this week, and instead she is played by Better Call Saul and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Beth Hoyt. Pepper Potts ends up being one of the few people not swayed by Killmonger, and may be the key to stopping him in this alternate timeline.

General Ross – Mike McGill

Mike McGill once again replaces William Hurt to play General Ross, another character who unwittingly helps Killmonger achieve his goals.

Shuri – Ozioma Akagha

Shuri plays a big role in this week’s episode as one of the few characters who sees through Killmonger’s plan. Letitia Wright does not return to play the princess of Wakanda, and instead, she is voiced by Runaway’s Ozioma Akagha.

The Watcher – Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey Wright is, as always, part of this episode of Marvel’s What If…?, and his character, The Watcher, gives us perhaps our best look at him so far.

What If…? Episode 5 Cast: What If… Zombies!

Bruce Banner / Hulk – Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo once again lends his voice to Bruce Banner and the Hulk, who has arrived on an alternate Earth to warn the Avengers of Thanos. However, the heroes he came to warn have turned into an even bigger threat than he could have ever imagined.

T’Challa / Black Panther – Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman makes his second appearance in Marvel’s What If…?, and this time he is playing the Black Panther we know and love… well, except for the fact that he was kidnapped by Vision and partially fed to a zombified Wanda Maximoff.

Vision – Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany’s Vision has had a rough go of it in not only in our Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in this one as well. While the zombie apocalypse may have prevented Thanos from killing him, his fate here is just as grim. He is powerless to help cure a zombie version of Wanda, and he has resorted to kidnapping his friends to keep her alive. Furthermore, he still is killed when the Mind Stone is removed from his head, yet this time it is by his own hand.

Bucky Barnes – Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan also makes a return to Marvel’s What If…?, this time with his long-flowing hair and Vibranium arm. In Peter Parker’s “So You Want to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” video, he is not only known as Bucky “Silent But Deadly” Barnes, but his skills are listed as “murder, killer arm, and heavy sleeper.”

Hope van Dyne / Wasp – Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly takes on the role of Hope van Dyne once more, and is one of the people unintentionally involved in starting the MCU zombie apocalypse after Hank Pym found her mother Janet van Dyne who, in this universe, “contracted a quantum virus that corrupted her brain.”

Scott Lang / Ant-Man – Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd and his jokes find their way to Marvel’s What If…? this week, and while he returns as Ant-Man, most of his screen time is spent as a talking head that has been cured of the quantum virus that has turned this world into zombies. Does that make him Ant-Head now?

Happy Hogan / Zombie Happy – Jon Favreau

Happy Hogan is once again played by Jon Favreau, and although he gets a few moments to enjoy some Stark tech for himself, he soon thereafter becomes a victim of zombie Hawkeye.

In Peter Parker’s “So You Want to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” video, he is not only known as Happy “Never Actually Happy” Hogan, but he’s also wearing a shirt that says, “I’m not single, I’m saving myself for Thor.” Also, his skills are listed as “driving, coffee, and boxing.”

Okoye – Danai Gurira

Danai Gurira lends her voice to Okoye once more this week after making an appearance in the second episode of What If…?

Sharon Carter – Emily Vancamp

Emily Vancamp is once again Sharon Carter in this week’s episode, and while she has a good run helping out the team, she, unfortunately, is attacked by zombie Captain America before being blown up from the inside by Hope.

In Peter Parker’s “So You Want to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” video, she is known as Sharon “The Blond Bond” Carter and her skills are listed as “spycraft, first aid, and eulogies.”

Kurt – David Dastmalchian

David Dastmalchian is back as the “Resident Weirdo” Kurt and is one of the stars of Peter Parker’s “So You Wanna Survive The Zombie Apocalypse” video. His skills are listed as “languages, Slavic folklore, and crime.”

Peter Parker / Spider-Man – Hudson Thames

While Peter Parker is one of the main characters of this week’s episode, Tom Holland does not reprise his role as Spider-Man. Instead, Hudson Thames takes on the legendary role. Thames was previously seen in Mad Men, I think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and more.

Ebony Maw – Tom Vaughan-Lawlor

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is once again Ebony Maw, but his arrival on Earth is short-lived after the zombie Avengers turn him into an undead nightmare as well.

Steve Rogers / Captain America – Josh Keaton

Josh Keaton, who voiced Steve Rogers in What If…?’s first episode, is back again for a short appearance as Captain America. The Avengers turning into zombies was one of the main reasons the full-blown apocalypse occurred, and Cap himself was undone by Hank Pym in tiny form.

The Watcher – Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey Wright is once again The Watcher, but we get a brief look at his face, whereas before he was mostly a figure in the sky without an actual face. Could this evolution mean we are heading towards his role in future stories being expanded? Only time will tell.

Zombies

This week’s episode of Marvel’s What If…? was filled with zombified versions of our favorite heroes and villains, and while some of them had voice actors behind them, others just made an undead showing without words. These include Wanda Maximoff, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Wong, Cull Obsidian, and the Mad Titan himself – Thanos. Unfortunately, for this universe, Thanos still has the Infinity Gauntlet.

What If…? Episode 4 Cast: What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?

Doctor Strange – Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch returned to play Dr. Stephen Strange M.D. — aka Sorcerer Supreme for Earth — in this twisted tale of obsession and regret.

Christine Palmer – Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams once again played Christine Palmer, Stephen Strange’s love interest, marking her first return to the MCU since 2016’s Doctor Strange. McAdams will be back as Christine again in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Ancient One – Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton reprised her role as The Ancient One, once again attempting to guide Doctor Strange through obstacles and temptation that could lead to ruin and cosmic devastation.

Wong – Benedict Wong

Benedict Wong was back as Doctor Strange’s trusty Sanctum Sanctorum sidekick, Wong, though ultimately no one would be spared in Strange’s dark and warped quest to reclaim the love of his life.

O’Bengh – Ike Amadi

A new character in the MCU, O’Bengh was the guardian of the Lost Library of Cagliostro. He eventually died of old age after Strange spent centuries learning forbidden knowledge and absorbing the energy of other magical beings.

In the comics, there is speculation that Cagliostro’s real name was O’Bengh.

Christine Everhart – Leslie Bibb

Leslie Bibb can be heard briefly as reporter Christine Everhart, who appeared in both Iron Man and Iron Man 2 (as well as a viral videos released by Marvel preceding Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War).

What If…? Episode 3 Cast: What If… The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?

Nick Fury – Samuel L. Jackson

Nick Fury takes center stage in the third episode of Marvel’s What If…?, and Samuel L. Jackson returns to voice the MCU character he’s been playing since 2008’s Iron Man. Unfortunately for this version of Nick Fury, his idea to form the Avengers didn’t go quite as planned.

Hank Pym / Yellow Jacket – Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas returns to play Hank Pym, but in this alternate universe he ends up becoming one of the episode’s true villains after his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly/The Wasp in the MCU!) passed away on a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission. Instead of becoming Ant-Man, he becomes Yellow Jacket, as he did in the comics.

Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow – Lake Bell

Scarlett Johansson, who is currently in a legal battle with Disney over a Black Widow contract breach, did not return to play Black Widow in this show. Instead, actress and comedian Lake Bell lent her voice to the iconic role. Bell and her voice have appeared in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, the Harley Quinn TV series, Cryptozoo, and much more.

Tony Stark / Iron Man – Mick Wingert

Much like Black Widow, Iron Man also has a new voice actor as Robert Downey, Jr. did not return to play the character that kicked off the entire MCU. Instead, Mick Wingert took up the role. Wingert has played Tony Stark in a ton of Marvel shows, including Marvel Future Avengers, Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more.

Agent Coulson – Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg once again becomes Agent Coulson in Marvel’s What If…? and is rightfully very impressed with Thor and his hair.

Brock Rumlow – Frank Grillo

Frank Grillo is back as Brock Rumlow and adds Marvel’s What If…? to the list of his MCU appearances that also include Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: Civil War, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Clint Barton / Hawkeye – Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner, who already appeared in the first episode of Marvel’s What If…? alongside Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, returns for a bigger role in episode 3. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have quite a happy ending. Luckily, he will reprise the role once more in his own Disney+ show later this year.

Betty Ross – Stephanie Panisello

The role of Betty Ross has changed once more as Hulk’s Jennifer Connolly nor The Incredible Hulk’s Liv Tyler returned to reprise their role. Instead, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ Stephanie Panisello makes her MCU debut in Marvel’s What If…?

Bruce Banner / Hulk – Mark Ruffalo

Bruce Banner and The Hulk make their Marvel’s What If…? debut in episode three. Although it’s always great to see Mark Ruffalo take on the role again, he returns for a story that sees an unfortunate end to his character.

Loki – Tom Hiddleston

Hot off the season finale of Marvel’s Loki, Tom Hiddleston appears again in the MCU as Loki in Marvel’s What If…? In this alternate universe, he comes to get his vengeance after the fall of Thor, and also takes the opportunity to become the ruler of Earth. Not bad for a day’s work.

General Ross – Mike McGill

Although William Hurt played General Thunderbolt Ross in Black Widow, Mike McGill was the one who voiced the short appearance by the general in this episode. McGill was recently seen in Bosch, Grace and Grit, Shameless, Grey’s Anatomy, and more.

Lady Sif – Jaimie Alexander

Much like Loki, Lady Sif returns to the MCU after making an appearance in Marvel’s Loki. Even better, Jaimie Alexander returns to lend her voice. Alexander is also set to be a part of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel – Alexandra Daniels

Although she is only seen for a brief moment at the very end, Captain Marvel answers Nick Fury’s call and heads to Earth to help her old friend. Instead of Brie Larson, Mothers and Daughters’ Alexandra Daniels plays the hero also known as Carol Danvers.

Thor

Thor and his majestic hair appeared in this episode of Marvel’s What If…?, but the God of Thunder had no lines, so there was no chance for Chris Hemsworth to return… yet.

What If…? Episode 2 Cast: What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?

Star-Lord T’Challa – Chadwick Boseman

Before his death in 2020, Chadwick Boseman recorded his final lines for T’Challa for Marvel’s What If…?, but in this version he plays Star-Lord T’Challa instead of Black Panther. While he made his debut as this alternate version of his character in the second episode of the series, there are still more episodes with his character in them.

Nebula – Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan returns to voice Nebula, and this time she is sporting some flowing blonde hair and, thanks to T’Challa becoming Star-Lord and helping turn Thanos into a “good guy,” she is free to live another life that is not helping her adopted father balance the universe.

Yondu – Michael Rooker

Michael Rooker once again becomes Yondu in this episode of What If…? and sees first-hand what happens when he leaves important jobs to other people. Since his Ravagers picked up T’Challa instead of Peter Quill, the trajectory of his life has changed greatly as well.

Korath – Djimon Hounsou

In a hilarious twist to the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy, Djimon Hounsou returns to play Korath, who is this time a huge fan of Star-Lord and ends up joining his team of Ravagers.

King T’Chaka – John Kani

The life of King T’Chaka is altered when his son goes missing one day, but that doesn’t stop him from searching the stars for T’Challa in the years that followed. John Kani returns as the voice of the king, and we get to see younger and older versions of him in the episode.

Thanos – Josh Brolin

In perhaps the most shocking twist of all, Josh Brolin returns to play a Thanos who has decided to give up on his idea of wiping out half of all living things in the universe. He has joined Star-Lord T’Challa and the Ravagers and, while he still jokes about his original plan being efficient, he has turned into a much more friendly Mad Titan.

The Collector – Benicio del Toro

Benicio del Toro once again plays The Collector, a character who has seen his stock rise after not having to deal with Thanos in his quest for the Infinity Stones. He is a force to be reckoned with in this alternate timeline, but ultimately is no match for T’Challa and his friends.

Ego – Kurt Russell

While it is but a brief cameo, Kurt Russell once again becomes Ego and decides to pay a visit to his son Peter Quill at a Dairy Queen. Quill of course never ended up becoming Star-Lord in this reality, though what this meeting with Ego means for him is unclear (for now).

Kraglin – Sean Gunn

Hot off his role as Weasel in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the director’s brother Sean Gunn lends his voice once more to Kraglin.

Taserface – Chris Sullivan

Chris Sullivan is also back as the Ravager Taserface, joining Star Lord T’Challa and the rest of their crew across the stars.

Howard the Duck – Seth Green

Howard the Duck, who makes his fourth MCU appearance following the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films and Avengers: Endgame, is once again voiced by Seth Green and looking classy as ever.

Okoye – Danai Gurira

Danai Gurira has only one line, but it’s always a treat to hear and see Okoye – the general of the Dora Milaje – get more screen time.

Carina – Ophelia Lovibond

In this alternate story, Carina was never killed as she never tried to use the Power Stone against The Collector. What’s more, she gets some karmic justice against her captor.

Proxima Midnight – Carrie Coon

Carrie Coon once again plays Proxima Midnight, who joined forces with The Collector after Thanos had a change of heart.

Ebony Maw – Tom Vaughan-Lawlor

As with Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw was on the look-out for new work following Thanos joining the Ravagers, and he joined The Collector just as the other members of the Black Order did.

Drax – Fred Tatasciore

Drax the Destroyer shows up in this episode of Marvel’s What If…?, but now he is… Drax the Bartender? While it’s great to see Drax again, he was voiced by Fred Tatasciore instead of Dave Bautista, who has said he was not asked to return to play his MCU character.

Corvus Glaive – Fred Tatasciore

Fred Tatasciore also plays Corvus Glaive from the Black Order, replacing the original voice actor Michael James Shaw.

Young T’Challa – Maddix Robinson

Young T’Challa only showed up in a deleted scene in Black Panther, but he gets a bigger role in Marvel’s What If…? In this episode, he was played by Maddix Robinson instead of Ashton Tyler.

Peter Quill – Brian T. Delaney

Peter Quill’s destiny was changed the most when the Ravagers picked up T’Challa instead of him. While we only see him for a brief moment, we see that his new fate was to work at Dairy Queen until his Dad pays him a visit. Chris Pratt did not return to voice this version of Peter Quill, and he was instead voiced by Brian T. Delaney.

Queen Ramonda, Shuri, and Cull Obsidian

Queen Ramonda of Wakanda, Shuri, and Cull Obsidian all make an appearance in this episode of Marvel’s What If…? but they have no lines so there were no returning or new actors for their characters.

What If…? Episode 1 Cast: What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?

Captain Carter/Peggy Carter – Hayley Atwell

Hayley Atwell voices Peggy Carter in a story focusing on what would happen if she was the one who became a super soldier. Steve Rogers still joins the fight with a suit made by Howard Stark. Chris Evans did not return for this episode of What If…?, and instead Josh Keaton lent his voice to Skinny Steve Rogers.

Skinny Steve Rogers – Josh Keaton

Despite many of the other MCU characters returning to reprise their roles, Chris Evan did not return for What If…? to voice Skinny Steve Rogers. Instead, Josh Keaton became this alternate version of Steve. This voice actor is also known for his roles as Peter Parker in the animated The Spectacular Spider-Man series, Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man VR, and many other projects.

Dr. Erskine – Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci voices Abraham Erskine, the only scientist to perfect the Super Soldier Serum. In this version of the story, he lives!

Howard Stark – Dominic Cooper

Dominic Cooper is back as (the younger version of) Howard Stark, who is the father of Iron Man himself, Tony Stark. In this story, Howard Stark created the first Iron Man armor in the Hydra Stomper.

Colonel Flynn – Bradley Whitford

While Bradley Whitford’s Colonel John Flynn has not been in a big MCU film, he was part of the Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, which was one of a series of shorts that expanded on the MCU world.

Johann Schmidt / Red Skull – Ross Marquand

Hugo Weaving did not return in What If…? to reprise his role as Red Skull, and instead Marvel brought back Ross Marquand, who played Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Dum Dum Dugan – Neal McDonough

Neal McDonough is back to voice Howling Commando Dum Dum Dugan from The Winter Soldier (and Agent Carter).

Bucky Barnes – Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan voices Bucky Barnes. In this alternate tale, Bucky was not experimented on by Arnim Zola and therefore never became The Winter Soldier.

Arnim Zola – Toby Jones

Toby Jones has returned to the MCU to voice Arnim Zola, and his fate is still very tied to Bucky Barnes, even if he isn’t as successful in this timeline.

Nick Fury – Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson returns to play Nick Fury and make a brief appearance at the end of the episode.

Hawkeye – Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner once again become Hawkeye in Marvel’s What If…?

The Watcher – Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey Wright plays The Watcher, a celestial being assigned to watch over Earth and its surrounding solar system. He’ll serve as the narrator for the series each week.

Daily Deals: Best PS5 Upgrade: The WD Black SN850 1TB SSD Without Heatsink Is $70 Cheaper Than With Heatsink

Now that the PS5 has officially released an update that allows for internal M.2 SSD expansion, it might be worthwhile for you to upgrade your storage. The WD Black SN850 has always been the most recommended SSD for this upgrade. A heatsink is strongly recommended, but there’s no need to waste money buying an expensive SSD with a pre-installed heatsink. You can easily buy a heatspreader off Amazon for much less and install it yourself. The install takes no more than a few minutes and you’ll come out at least $50 richer.

The WD Black SN850 M.2 1TB SSD Without Heatsink Is $70 Cheaper Than the Same Model With Heatsink

The WD SN850 is currently the most popular (and probably the best) SSD to get for your PS5 storage upgrade. It’s blazing fast drive with transfer speeds rated at up to 7,000 MB/s and a PCIe Gen4 interface. It’s also confirmed by Western Digital themselves to be compatible with the PS5. Save $70 and get the model without heatsink, then buy a cheap PS5 compatible heatsink on Amazon and put it on yourself (it’s super easy). If, on the other hand, you’re looking for the 500GB or 2TB model, WD Store does have discounts on those.

Apple AirPods Pro Noise-Cancelling Earbuds

If you regret not picking the Airpods Pro up on Amazon Prime Day, here’s your chance to get it today for an even lower price. Today the price of the AirPods Pro has dropped $70, or 28% off. This is the lowest price we’ve seen for a brand new pair of these highly rated earbuds. The AirPods Pro is considered by many to be the best truly wireless noise-cancelling in-ear headphones you can get, and a very big step up in quality from the standard AirPods.

New Oculus Quest 2 VR Headset with More Storage, Same Price, and Bonus Newegg Gift Card

The Oculus Quest 2 has so far been the best value when it comes to VR gaming. It’s hundreds of dollars cheaper than its competitors, it has phenomenal tracking, it doesn’t need to be tethered to a PC, and it boasts a huge library of games (even Half Life: Alyx is easily playable on the Quest 2). Now, Oculus has re-released its Oculus Quest 2 VR headset with double the storage (128GB vs 64GB) for the exact same price. There’s even less of a reason now to pick something else. I purchased an Oculus Rift when it first launched, played the heck out of it, and now own a Quest 2. In my opinion, and with price factored in, it’s far and away the best VR headset to get into Beat Saber.

Buy Quest 2 Accessories, Get a Newegg Gift Card

The Oculus Quest 2 is a bargain at $299, and thanks to the low price, you can pick up some very convenient accessories without having to feel like you just stepped out of your budget. Newegg is offering a bonus gift card when you purchase any of the accessories below. That includes the Elite Strap, the Elite Strap with Battery Pack, the Link Cable, and more.

Dashcam Review

Dashcam was reviewed out of the Toronto International Film Festival, where it made its world premiere.

Director Rob Savage is gunning hard to become the king of pandemic-era horror. Last summer, he wowed critics with Host, a savage and sharp séance movie set during lockdown and “shot” across a Zoom call. Now, he’s back with Dashcam, another screen life horror tale set amid COVID-19’s stranglehold. But despite jump scares, a vicious monster, and a studio-backed budget, this much-anticipated follow-up is a repugnant, incoherent jumble that ruthlessly rips off The Blair Witch Project while treating a global catastrophe as a provocative gimmick.

Dashcam follows Annie Hardy, an L.A. musician fleeing lockdown to visit a former bandmate in England. Across the pond, she swiftly wears out her welcome by scoffing at COVID precautions, angering his girlfriend and endangering his job — and then she steals his car. This devil-may-care attitude turns uniquely dangerous when she accepts a stack of cash to drive a sickly stranger to a remote address. Of course, there’s more to this task than meets the eye. Soon, she’s fighting for her life against a ferocious foe she doesn’t understand.

This follow-up reunites Savage with his screenwriting partners on Host, Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd. However, in the director intro ahead of its TIFF debut, Savage noted there wasn’t a screenplay for Dashcam as much as a “skeleton outline.” From there, the team went into the woods and shot a bunch of improvised scenes on their iPhones. Basically, they Blair Witched it, having their cast act out spooky scenarios in a found-footage set-up. Their horror-struck heroine even pays homage to Heather Donahue’s iconic “I’m sorry” moment (though with a glib twist). However, unlike its inspiration, Dashcam is woefully lacking in momentum. Its protagonist has no motivation or even curiosity that would urge her to explore the mysterious evil that derails her journey. She just crashes into one situation after another, making for an episodic string of violent encounters.

In a clever move, the screen life framing of the film reflects Annie’s live-for-the-moment shortsightedness. She hosts a live-cast musical improvisational show where commenters throw out prompts for freestyle raps. Most of her songs are diss tracks full of curse words, scatological humor, and raunchy references to genitals — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but they’re not particularly substantive, either. She’s a provocateur whose callous wisecracks target COVID panic, Black Lives Matter, and the Me Too movement. At first, Annie seems a crude caricature of American anti-vaxxers. She smugly makes a scene without caring about the consequences of her actions and gleefully mocks any who are upset by her antics. However, when there’s actual blood on her hands, a frantic tenderness emerges. Annie tries to help or comfort those in grave physical danger, yet these moments of regret are fleeting. Her character arc is more about fleeing, fighting, and foul-mouthed exclamations than evolving empathy or self-awareness.

Is Annie meant to be a satirical criticism of anti-vaxxers or a charismatic champion to their cause? Other characters suffer because of Annie’s selfish actions, which could be seen as a condemnation. However, Annie is the film’s bombastic center, who battles back no matter what comes her way, which could be viewed as validation of her resilience and thereby her worldview.

Making the movie’s message murkier is its blurring of fact and fiction: Annie Hardy is a real L.A. musician, who uses her real name in the movie and really does host a livestream musical improvisation show. Plus, her social media posts are in line with the incendiary dialogue she spouts in the movie. So, how much of a character is she playing here? Did Savage set out to parody anti-vaxxers or give them a platform? Frankly, I suspect that like his protagonist, he just wants attention and doesn’t care of its praise or ire. Dashcam is far more interested in provoking with Hardy’s shock-jock sensibilities and a smattering of gross scares than it is in telling an engaging story. But politics aside, this film doesn’t offer anything freshly scary.

Did Savage set out to parody anti-vaxxers or give them a platform?

Host awed audiences by being a low-budget scarefest in lockdown that boasted a captivating ensemble, effective (albeit cliched) scares, and a lean-and-mean runtime of just 57 minutes. Critics noted it borrowed heavily from other haunted house movies, but because it was made swiftly and shrewdly, it was hard to be too bothered by that. Though less rushed, Dashcam borrows heavily from the flood of found footage movies that came since The Blair Witch Project, including hits like [REC], Unfriended, Paranormal Activity, and Troll Hunter. But Savage apparently pulled the wrong lessons from these predecessors. His film lacks a compelling human bond that would ground us in the narrative. He doesn’t offer patient plotting that builds dread, so that scares can come as a rushing release of tension. Devoid of atmosphere, his jump scares are often the “OMG LOOK BEHIND YOU” variety, which quickly grows tedious.

More frustrating, much of the action — including a barrage of chase scenes — are hard to follow, because what’s going on is obscured by the shaky cam aesthetic. When characters are running for their lives while trying to record the thing trying to kill them, it’s often difficult to make out where they are or even what’s going on. Comedy cuts from fearsome fights to moments of Annie alone likewise stifle suspense. How did she escape this brush with death? Don’t worry about it; Dashcam didn’t.

To their credit, Savage and his team figured out an excuse for the camera to keep running (they’re often using the phone as a flashlight), but they have developed no worthwhile mythos behind their movie’s monster. The actual plot is tissue paper thin: Woman gets chased by something creepy. Perhaps Annie’s firebrand persona and outrage-aiming barbs are a cynical distraction, meant to overwhelm us — in elation or irritation — and thereby cover up how little this movie actually has to show or say. Despite Hardy’s undeniable showmanship, Dashcam is no deeper than a Facebook meme. So, at 77 minutes, it feels unforgivably grating.

If this were just a random found footage movie, it would be irksome and disappointing. But Dashcam had real promise. Because of Host, I expected much more from Savage. He’d made a film that was not just fun and frightening, it spoke keenly to the zeitgeist. Host’s story of friends dying over a Zoom call reflected our fear of being virtually connected, but unable to truly reach out and help our loved ones in crisis, so it haunted viewers long after that final jump scare. After Host’s success, Savage and his team got serious support in the form of a three-picture deal with Blumhouse Productions, which has put out a slew of sensational horror films like Paranormal Activity, Get Out, Unfriended, and Happy Death Day. This suggests that for his follow-up, Savage had greater resources: a studio budget, access to a network of talent, and the world’s attention. Yet what he delivered is this repulsive eyesore that relishes in unrelenting juvenile humor, repeated gross out gags involving poop, and a punishing onslaught of crassly provocative yet politically shallow rhetoric.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses Is a Wizarding World Quiz Show Presented by Helen Mirren

Warner Bros. has officially announced the title of its upcoming Harry Potter quiz show. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses will be a four-part series, presented by Dame Helen Mirren.

The quiz show, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone, will award the winner the title of House Cup champion. To win, contestants will need to prove themselves the most knowledgeable about the Wizarding World across hundreds of trivia questions.

“Special guest surprises” are promised, hinting at actors from the film series, but the show will be fronted by Helen Mirren, one of Britain’s most famous actresses, and a surprising omission from the star-studded British cast of the Harry Potter movies. “I knew someday I’d get a Harry Potter role, and I’m so pleased to take part in the 20-year film celebration,” said Mirren in a press release. “The films inspired such enchantment and wonder for so many of us, and it will be such a treat to reignite that magic for the countless fans who continue to revel in this spellbinding world.”

The four-part show is due to be filmed later this month, and will premiere later this year on both Cartoon Network’s ACME Night and TBS. It will then be made available on HBO Max.

Earlier this year there were reports of a Harry Potter series being planned for HBO Max. It’s unclear if that show is, in fact, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, or if there are/were plans for a scripted drama set in the Wizarding World. At the time Warner denied that any Harry Potter show was in development, but the company has noted its interest in expanding the franchise beyond the film series and its Fantastic Beasts spin-off.

Spider-Man Will Meet Venom, Eventually, Says Venom 2 Director Andy Serkis

It’s hard to imagine Venom without Spider-Man, but so far the two haven’t met in either of their modern cinematic incarnations. But it’s only a matter of time, said Venom 2 director Andy Serkis when talking to IGN.

“Everyone wants to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man,” Serkis said. “Personally, it’s not going to happen. I’m kidding. It’s going to happen, the question is when. We don’t want to rush it.”

There are complications here, of course. In the comic books, Spider-Man is the first one to wear the alien symbiote that would eventually become known as Venom. Peter Parker first found the suit in 1984 during the Secret Wars storyline, and for a while wore it as his primary suit before it began to amplify his negative feelings and change him. He eventually un-bonded himself from the suit, at which point it bonded with Eddie Brock, a rival photographer and reporter. With both Brock and the symbiote feeling slighted by Peter, it’s easy to see where their adversarial nature would come from. Though Venom would eventually become an anti-hero in the Marvel universe, the two were enemies for a long time.

In the films, though, there’s no equivalent to the mirror relationship from the comics. Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock is a grown man who lives in San Francisco (where Venom relocates in the comics after making tentative peace with Spider-Man); Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is a teenager still in high school whose arc seems to lean more toward the later scientific careers Peter would take on rather than his earlier career as a reporter for the Daily Bugle. Peter has no connection to the symbiote, nor to Brock, and none of the three have ever met.

Further, Venom is thus far very much the anti-hero he would later become–not the outright villain he began as. Maximum Carnage, the story that acts as inspiration for the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage, is a catalyst for Venom’s shift and the first time the two work together.

With those differences in mind, it’s impossible to say how the two characters would meet in their current incarnations, or how the writers would make sense of it. With Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home both coming this year, the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters is expanding, and it’s not completely impossible that the two could meet through Spider-Man’s multiversal adventure.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage hits theaters in just two weeks, on October 1, with a PG-13 rating. Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently set to hit theaters on December 17, and will formally introduce the multiverse to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a preview in the Loki Disney+ series.
