Venom: Let There Be Carnage Rated PG-13, Just Like The First One

Venom: Let There Be Carnage pits its titular character against a remorseless serial killer, but much of that violence may be off-screen, as the film is receiving the same PG-13 rating as its predecessor, Sony has announced (via IGN).

The MPA’s Film Ratings site lists the reasons for each film, and for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, we can look forward to “intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material, and suggestive references.” The first Venom film, which raked in $853 million at the worldwide box office, was also rated PG-13. There, it was for “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for language.”

The sequel stars Tom Hardy as reporter Eddie Brock who, following the first film, now lives alongside the symbiote Venom, and introduces Woody Harrelson as the serial killer Cletus Kasady, who appeared briefly in a post-credits stinger for the first film. Kasady becomes infected with a piece of the Venom symbiote, which feeds off of the murderer’s intentions and becomes its own organism known as Carnage. The story is most likely adapting pieces of the Maximum Carnage storyline from the Marvel comics, albeit without the addition of Spider-Man in the mix.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been delayed a handful of times due the COVID-19 pandemic, but is headed for release next month. Ahead of that, check out the latest trailer for the film and the grotesque new poster. Venom: Let There Be Carnage hits theaters on October 15, 2021.

Psychonauts 2 Strike City Collectibles Guide

A big part of the story of Psychonauts 2 has you working to repair the shattered mind of famed Psychonaut agent Ford Cruller, which takes you into three distinct versions of his psyche. When you finally make your way into the Astral Lanes bowling alley, after completing Compton’s Cookoff, you can jump into Cruller’s mind to experience a bowling-themed apocalypse scenario: Strike City.

Here’s how to find everything hidden in Strike City. Stay tuned for more Psychonauts 2 coverage and guides, including our rundown of all the collectibles in Loboto’s Labyrinth, Hollis’s Classroom, and Hollis’ Hot Streak, and Ford’s Follicles. And don’t forget to check out our Psychonauts 2 review.

Strike City Collectibles

  • Nuggets of Wisdom:1
  • Memory Vaults: 1
  • Emotional Baggage: Duffle Bag, Suit Case
  • Half-A-Minds: 1
  • Figments: 52

The gimmick of Strike City is that you’ll have to roll on top of a bowling ball whenever you need to use a path that looks like a bowling lane–you’re not allowed to walk on the lanes, after all. That said, you’ll want to hop off the ball at several intervals in order to run down collectibles. They tend to be off to the side in Strike City, hidden in the architecture in places you don’t necessarily need to go.

Duffel Bag Emotional Baggage: After arriving in Strike City, head down the first big jump. When you reach the next rooftop, you’ll see a ball return machine to one side. Head around the wall it’s pressed against to find the Duffel Bag on the far side, next to a figment.

Memory Vault: On the next rooftop, look to the edge where you can drop down to find the Memory Vault hidden out of sight.

Suitcase Tag: As you keep moving, you’ll soon come to a rooftop covered in green slime. You can’t really walk through this–it slows you down and keeps you from jumping–so you’ll need to ride a bowling ball to navigate the goo. Use your bowling ball to hop across the gap between the rooftops to another area covered in goo. Head to the back right corner and check behind the trailers there to find the Suitcase Tag.

Nugget of Wisdom: Ahead, you’ll hop up onto the side of a building, where gravity will shift to allow you to walk on the new surface. Cross that building and you’ll reach a rooftop where you can hop down to a side area, marked by a water tower. Climb up to the top of it to find the Nugget of Wisdom.

Suitcase Emotional Baggage: Continue until you hit a building that’s under construction. You’ll need to carefully ride a bowling ball to the top by climbing ramps and using moving girders to travel across gaps. Before you start climbing, though, check under the ramp on the left side of the area. Roll your bowling ball to the back left corner of the bottom floor, where you’ll find bowling pins you can knock down with the ball. Behind them, the Suitcase is waiting.

Half-A-Mind: In this same half-constructed building, ride your bowling ball all the way to the top. When you get there, ride around the edge of the building carefully and look for a protruding girder. Carefully hop off your bowling ball and walk out on the girder to grab your Half-A-Mind.

You Can Win This Ridiculous Far Cry 6 Xbox Series X Custom Console

Microsoft just announced a Shang-Chi Xbox Series X custom console and now the company has partnered with Ubisoft for another special edition system themed around Far Cry 6.

Like the franchise it’s based on, the Far Cry 6-themed Xbox Series X is very over the top and ornate, as you can see in the image below. It’s seemingly modeled after the type of makeshift weapons you can create in Far Cry 6, and if nothing else, it’s very striking-looking. The controller sports a similar style and design.

Behold, the Far Cry-themed Xbox Series X
Behold, the Far Cry-themed Xbox Series X

Microsoft is giving the console away, along with the controller, a digital copy of the game, a Samsung Neo QLED TV, and Far Cry 6 merch, as part of a sweepstakes through Microsoft Rewards. The contest is open to anyone in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, or Franchise. The sweepstakes ends on September 30–here are the full contest rules.

The Far Cry 6 custom Xbox is not being sold to the public, but Microsoft is releasing the first-ever custom Xbox Series X console themed around Halo Infinite in November. The system sold out almost instantly and is now being sold for ridiculous markups.

We recently got to play a few hours of Far Cry 6, and Michael Higham came away seeing the game as an opportunity for the franchise to get bold. Featuring Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito as the main bad guy, Far Cry 6 launches on October 7 for console and PC.

Psychonauts 2 Compton’s Cookoff Collectibles Guide

The mild-mannered Compton Boole’s mind is inspired by an Iron Chef-style cooking game show in Psychonauts 2. When Raz enters the mind of the former member of the Psychic Six, he finds the cooking metaphor is the manifestation of all of Compton’s self-doubts and imagined criticisms from his real-life Psychonaut friends. Fashioned after a game show set, the area is less linear than some others in the game. Instead, it’s structured as a single open space with various cooking stations, so the collectibles are scattered around a relatively small area. Some Figments will only become available in certain rounds of the cooking segment, but otherwise you can find the collectibles anytime–including when you return in the post-game.

Here’s how to find everything in Compton’s Cookoff. Stay tuned for more Psychonauts 2 coverage and guides, including our rundown of all the collectibles in Loboto’s Labyrinth, Hollis’s Classroom, and Hollis’ Hot Streak. And don’t forget to check out our Psychonauts 2 review.

  • Emotional Baggage: Duffle Bag, Suit Case, Purse, Hat Box, Steamer Trunk
  • Half-A-Minds: 2
  • Figments: 51

Compton’s Cookoff is made up of a central stage area with audience stands, as well as four cooking stations. Those stations, from left to right, are Boiling, Blending, Skillet, and Chopping. These areas are each marked by an icon at the entrance to each area, and a series of grind rails and Mental Connection nodes link the areas to each other.

One thing that’s notable for this area is that three collectibles are prizes awarded for completing the area’s three cooking challenges within a time limit. If you fail to meet the time limit, the narrative will still move forward, but you won’t receive the prize. Those prizes aren’t lost forever, though, as coming back to the area after completing the game’s main story campaign will have all of the prizes unlocked and ready to claim.

Purse Tag: In the stands among the audience you’ll find the Purse Tag.

Purse: In the hot Skillet area tucked between the trail of hot cooking pads that lead up to the cooking station.

Hat Box Tag: Floating above one of the grind rails connecting the cooking stations.

Hat Box: In the Chopper area, just below the ramp.

Duffel Bag Tag: Use the Mental Connection power to grapple nodes at the bottom of the Boiling area. That will let you reach an area tucked away below and behind the main Boiling stage for this tag.

Duffel Bag: In the Chopping area, behind the pig’s chopping arm.

Steamer Trunk Tag: This is the third and final prize for completing the last cooking challenge. It can be found in the Audience/Stage area. (If you miss the cooking challenge time, just return post-game to claim it.)

Nugget of Wisdom: The audience stand between the Blender and Skillet area has a ramp behind it. You can find the Nugget of Wisdom on the ramp.

Nugget of Wisdom: At the very top of the Blender area, on top of the giant illuminated sign with the Blender icon, you can find this Nugget of Wisdom. However, you’ll need the Dark Thoughts upgrade to reach it, since some of the Mental Connection nodes to reach the area are dark ones.

Memory Vault: This vault is on the left side of the Chopping area, near the pull-lever that you use to raise the chopping mechanism.

Half-A-Mind: This is the first prize for completing the first cooking challenge. It can be found in the Audience/Stage area. (If you miss the cooking challenge time, just return post-game to claim it.)

Half-A-Mind: This is the second prize for completing the second cooking challenge. It can be found in the Audience/Stage area. (If you miss the cooking challenge time, just return post-game to claim it.)

Call Of Duty: Warzone And Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Reloaded Revealed With New Maps, Modes, Weapons, And More

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone‘s Season 5 Reloaded update will go live on September 9, and now Activision has divulged what players can expect in the big refresh. All of the information was announced in a blog post, and we’re rounding up the key points.

Season 5 Reloaded approaches
Season 5 Reloaded approaches

Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops Cold War is getting one new map in the Season 5 Reloaded update, and it is a remake of Zoo from the original Black Ops. The objective-based Demolition mode comes to Black Ops Cold War in the update as well.

Zombies

For the Zombies mode, a new Armada location has been added to the Outbreak map, while a world event called Black Chest is coming as well. There is also a new feature, the Rampage Inducer, and a new Outbreak mode called Survival (coming after launch).

“Appearing as an orange Essence canister in the starting area, the Rampage Inducer will temporarily ramp up the difficulty to Cranked-level proportions if all members of a squad agree to take on the challenge,” Activision said. “Once activated, this canister will speed up zombie spawn rates and cause all zombies to sprint endlessly until Round 20, turning up the action until the second major round milestone is reached… or a total squad wipe long before then.”

Warzone

In the battle royale game Warzone, players can expect new playlists for the large-scale 50v50 Team Deathmatch mode Clash and Iron Trials, the latter of which will be released sometime after September 9. Iron Trials is designed for the highest-skilled players in what Activision says is the “toughest battle royale mode” ever in Warzone.

Base health is increased in Iron Trials, as is the health regeneration rate. “This is set to affect the feel of combat, time to kill, weapon, Perk, and Equipment viability as the entire game is effectively altered,” Activision said.

There are no loadout drops in Iron Trials, so everyone needs to buy their weapons, and costs for everything has gone up. The Gulag is open in Iron Trials, but it’s changed, too, to focus more on pure skill. “No akimbo. No semi-auto or fully-auto shotguns. Almost no tactical equipment. The only thing standing between you and redeployment is the agility of your trigger finger,” Activision said.

Iron Trials is Warzone's most challenging battle royale mode yet, Activision says

There will be “additional changes to environmental element” and other “important aspects” across Verdansk, Activision said, though it’s not announcing the specifics until later. New weapons will be on the map, too, but Activision’s announcement has their names redacted. Those who win in Iron Trials will get an exclusive Calling Card.

A new “Numbers Broadcast Sequence” will also arrive in Warzone sometime in the midst of Season 5 Reloaded, but not details are available.

New Weapons And Operators

Across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, players can look forward to a new Operator, Hudson, as well as the Sai melee weapon which can be unlocked by completing a new seasonal event called The Numbers. New store bundles will let you dress up your character like Judge Dredd, while Oktoberfest and Motocross bundles are coming as well.

Judge Dredd comes to Warzone

The Numbers Event

Beginning September 21, The Numbers Event is a seasonal event that players can complete to earn special bonuses like the aforementioned Sai weapon and other extras, which you can see in the roadmap image.

Those who take part in the event get an instant allotment of $2,000 cash, and for each mobile broadcast station activated during the event, you get additional XP and bonuses of a sticker, Calling Card, or charm. Nine additional challenges for Black Ops Cold War are included in this event, and completing those will reward you with cosmetic rewards.

Another Mystery

Activision’s blog post announcing Season 5 Reloaded also included the cryptic image below, along with the following text, much of which has been redacted.

“As The Numbers Event goes online, intel suggests that [[REDACTED]] are under Verdansk and that [[REDACTED]] has gone AWOL – their position is reportedly related to coordinates for these [[REDACTED]]. This has led NATO to send in Special Agent [[REDACTED]] to stop this unauthorized operation, as it could jeopardize the agency in discovering and stopping [[REDACTED]].”

What's going on here?

Release Date

An update for Black Ops Cold War introducing this content will arrive September 7 at 9 PM PT / 12 AM ET and then for Warzone on September 8 at the same time. However, the first of the Season 5 Reloaded content won’t be playable until September 9.

This is just a small sampling of what’s in the Season 5 Reload update. Be sure to read the full blog post on Activision’s website to get all the information.

The next Call of Duty game is Call of Duty: Vanguard, which launches in November, alongside a new map for Warzone. The game’s multiplayer mode will be officially revealed on September 7, and beta tests will be held on all platforms later in the month. If Call of Duty is not your thing, EA’s Battlefield 2042 is expected to kick off its open beta in September, while 343 has told fans to expect the next Halo Infinite beta test at some point in the future.

All of the new Call of Duty developments are unfolding as Activision Blizzard faces a lawsuit from the state of California over harassment and discrimination against women.

Madden NFL 22 Update Addresses Progression Issues And More: Full Patch Notes

Madden NFL 22 was released in late August, and though we were pretty pleased with the changes and improvements made for this year, the game also came loaded with bugs. A new patch takes aim at several of these, and it also makes gameplay improvements that should get it closer to where it probably should have been at launch.

The majority of updates and improvements listed in the patch notes are apply to both the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions as well as the PC, Stadia game, though the last-gen game is missing some features. The overarching gist of the update was “adding more historical content” and “stability improvements causing connectivity issues,” which means more uniforms and fixes to player likenesses, but there are also a bunch of updates to the gameplay and progression systems.

Now Playing: Madden NFL 22 Video Review

Actions are being taken to address pass coverage concerns though it isn’t being updated quite yet, and the new momentum system is being changed so it doesn’t swing back and forth so quickly in online games. Certain exploits and issues related to defensive formations were addressed, and run-pass option plays will now be harder for the QB to scramble away from defenders.

One of the buggiest modes at launch, Face of the Franchise also got some improvements in the update. Reward progress should now be shown correctly, and points you earn for player classes should be able to listed properly after being spent. We encountered this issue several times, with the points unavailable for hours after supposedly earning them.

The full patch notes for Madden NFL 22, directly from EA, are below. The game just added a college football experience, letting you choose from some of the top schools in a special mode. For more, check out our Madden NFL 22 review.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Netflix Horror Anthology Show Gets New Title, Stars And Directors Revealed

The new details about Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming horror anthology series have been revealed. The show, which was previously known as 10 After Midnight, will now be titled Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Netflix has also announced details of the show’s cast and crew. Among the names that will star in the series are Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), F. Murray Abraham (Mythic Quest), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), Ben Barnes (Westworld), Peter Weller (Robocop), and Essie Davis (The Babadook).

Behind the camera, the show’s directors will include Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), Vincenzo Natali (Cube), Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night), Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), and David Prior (The Empty Man). Writers include David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), Lee Patterson (The Colony), and Del Toro himself.

Netflix has released a synopsis for Cabinet of Curiosities. It reads, “Guillermo del Toro has curated a collection of unprecedented and genre-defining stories meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror. From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, these eight equally sophisticated and sinister tales (including two original works by del Toro) will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by del Toro.”

The series has been a long time coming. It was first announced back in 2018, and there has been very little news about it since then. However, production on the series is now underway in Toronto.

As a director, Del Toro has also got two new movies on the way. His thriller Nightmare Alley, which stars Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett, arrives in December. He’s also making a new stop-motion adaptation of Pinnochio for Netflix, with a voice-cast cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson. Pinnochio doesn’t have a release date yet.

Destiny 2 Update 3.3.0.1 Patch Notes Revealed, Adding Cross-Platform Voice Chat

Bungie revealed the patch notes for Destiny 2‘s Update 3.3.0.1 today, which is the first update following the launch of Season of the Lost. While most of the update is dedicated to bug fixes and tweaks, it also enables cross-platform voice chat for Destiny 2’s recently added cross-play functionality.

In general, the hotfix smooths out some of the issues that have cropped up since the launch of the new season. For example, it fixes an issue where the Astral Alignment activity could soft-lock upon destruction of all Ether Wisps, or when players quit while holding objects.

Now Playing: Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Season Of The Lost Gameplay Trailer

In addition, the update tweaks a handful of problems with weapons and armor. It solves an issue where Stasis crystals were doing more detonation damage against players than intended, which could conceivably feel like a small nerf against Stasis abilities.

The most high-profile improvement in the update is cross-platform voice chat. Season of the Lost introduced cross-play in Destiny 2 for the first time, meaning that players can now join games with others on any platform. This hotfix now allows players to actually talk with those players. However, Bungie notes that voice chat on Xbox still has some issues to iron out; specifically, Xbox privacy settings and mute lists are currently not functioning as intended within Destiny 2.

You can see the full list of Destiny 2 Update 3.3.0.1 patch notes below. Season of the Lost focuses on the Hive god Savathun, and its Astral Alignment activity tasks you with protecting the Dreaming City’s Blind Well. If you’re curious about all of the new content, check out our guide to the season’s challenges and be sure to read about how this season’s lore is setting up the upcoming Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion.

GTA Online’s Latest Update Lets Players Rob The Union Depository

As of today, players in GTA Online can gun for one of the game’s single-player heist targets: the Union Depository. The highly-guarded building, which houses millions of dollars for players to steal in Grand Theft Auto V’s story mode, isn’t the focus of a new heist on GTA Online, but rather a robbery contract.

This week’s GTA Online update was shared via the Rockstar Newswire, but you can find all the important details down below.

Players who want to go after the Union Depository in GTA Online’s latest contract will first have to purchase an Auto Shop. From there, the contract can be selected from the Job Board. Players who successfully complete this or any other robbery contract this week will also earn twice the usual cash and XP.

There are some other options this week for players trying to earn their keep as well. The game’s racing aficionados can earn three times the cash and XP by participating in the Tiny Racers game mode. Anyone looking for some more relaxed work can help out Tom Connors, their local DJ, and earn double the rewards.

Continuing its trend, Rockstar has released a new vehicle for GTA Online players this week, the Ubermacht Cypher. The new car can be purchased from Legendary Motorsport or tried out on the test track alongside the Karin Previon and Vapid Dominator GTT.

If players want to test their skill, they can also race for the Ubermacht Cypher. The car can be won by LS Car Meet members who place first in five different street races this week. Anyone trying to test their luck can also win the Dundreary Landstalker XL at the Diamond Casino’s lucky wheel.

Spectre Aims to Be the Splinter Cell Game That Ubisoft Won’t Make

Spectre developers Jordan Crawford and Fred Toms first met while working at a restaurant together in their teenage years. They bonded quickly over video games – and one game in particular: Splinter Cell. The duo would make Splinter Cell jokes to other employees and introduce themselves to restaurant guests as ‘Sam Fisher’.” After decades as friends and a COVID-induced separation, the two veteran developers, who have each worked in the industry separately, decided to form Symbiosis Games together, “a nod to our symbiotic relationship,” Toms said. “Jordan is a very artistic and visual person, while I am absolutely the opposite of that.”

Their minds kept coming back to Splinter Cell, a beloved franchise that, outside of a few Fisher cameos in other Ubisoft titles, has laid dormant since 2013’s Splinter Cell Blacklist. “We thought, ‘What better way to introduce Symbiosis Games to the world with a game that features deep-seeded teamwork and partnership, heavily inspired by the glory days of our favourite franchise?’” Toms told IGN. And so Spectre was born.

It is a multiplayer game, for now (more on that later) – a spiritual rebirth of Spies vs. Mercs, since Ubisoft has shown no interest in making it themselves. As a fellow Splinter Cell die-hard, I was eager to learn more about the pair’s ambitious project. I had to start by asking a key question: Which version of Spies vs. Mercs is their favorite? Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, or Blacklist? “Jordan and I strongly agree here,” Toms began. “It’s Chaos Theory. The level design, particularly Aquarius, was outstanding. We both feel like Blacklist steered the Spies Vs Mercs genre, if you can call it a genre, away from what made it really special. When you were a spy in Chaos Theory, stealth was exhilarating. Watching an unsuspecting Mercenary from afar and surreptitiously planning your next move was thrilling. I feel like Blacklist took some of that magic away by making the spies a lot deadlier and making the gameplay a lot faster. I feel like it removed some of that classic, slower-paced, nail-biting experience that stealth games used to offer. We aim to have that feeling return in Spectre.”

The multiplayer gaming landscape has changed a lot since Spies vs. Mercs’s heyday, so what, I was curious, makes Symbiosis optimistic that Spectre will find a dedicated audience and that the project will be successful? “A huge benefit we have is that we are a very small team,” Toms said. “Symbiosis Games is Jordan and I, two guys, although we do have a small team of contractors who work with us. But success for us means that if we are supported by that small pool of SvM-loving, devoted fans, then we’ve arrived at success. Our very lean, indie approach to Spectre means that we don’t need to experience AAA sales like the bigger companies do.”

“Hardware and software advancements aside,” Crawford answered, “I think one massive benefit that we’ve seen has been the community involvement and support. From the get go, we were able to tap into a wealth of SvM experience via our Discord community members who have been waiting around for a very long time, and who have a lot of valuable input.

“Another benefit that will work in our favour is post-launch support. With technology today, it’s just a lot easier to deploy.”

“I feel like Blacklist removed some of that classic, slower-paced, nail-biting experience that stealth games used to offer. We aim to have that feeling return in Spectre.”

Symbiosis says its current plan is to include three maps, two training missions (one per side – which, by the way, are referred to as Spectres and Reapers here in place of Spies and Mercenaries), and two modes. Expect seven gadgets per side along with a progression system and an ability system of sorts called “Edges” that give extra, seemingly temporary, perks. And teammates can combine their Edges for greater effect. For example, the guys told me, “one of our Edges is ‘Ohm’s Naw’. It’s an Edge deployed by the Reapers that reduces the amount of time they spend in a shocked state.

In trying to bring Spies vs. Mercs back successfully, Toms says he and Crawford have had to be careful about clinging too closely to the past. “A lot of our fans remember Chaos Theory with rose tinted glasses,” he said. “It’s an incredible game, even to this day, but we couldn’t release that today. The entire experience needed a huge overhaul to bring it up to modern day standards. This approach has been infused into every aspect of Spectre. We do, however, wear our inspirations very much on our sleeves.”

While Symbiosis plans a PC release by the end of the year, the team called Spectre “a perfect fit for PC and Xbox,” and added, “We very much hope to see Spectre on the Xbox Series X, hopefully as a Game Pass offering. We think that the Xbox Game Pass service is exceptional. With a bit of luck and some hard work, we’re hoping to release to both platforms simultaneously. We also can’t wait to see Spectre on the new Steam Deck!”

“We would be absolutely thrilled to offer single-player content.”

Toms and Crawford also fully intend to react to their community once the game is out, and they’re planning plenty more post-launch content. “Truly, we’re hoping that SPECTRE’s release just begins to scratch the surface of what it eventually becomes,” they said.

I couldn’t help but conclude by asking about the other Sam Fisher-sized elephant in the room: a single-player campaign. “We have discussed this!” Toms told me. “If Spectre takes off, we would be absolutely thrilled to offer single-player content. We’re not sure what that would look like quite yet, but the notion is really exciting.”

If you’re interested in Spectre, you can wishlist it on Steam.
