Hulu’s How I Met Your Father Adds Veronica Mars And GLOW Star

The father has (possibly) been found. According to a report from Deadline, Hulu’s gender-swapped How I Met Your Mother reboot–How I Met Your Father–has found its male lead to star opposite Hillary Duff. Chris Lowell, who you likely remember most as Bash on Netflix’s GLOW or Piz from the final season of Veronica Mars and the movie that followed, has snagged the role.

How I Met Your Father sees Duff as Sophie, a woman telling her kids the story of how she met and fell in love with their father, using that storytelling device to explore love in the digital age, when everyone’s staring at their phone and dating apps are all the rage.

Per Deadline, Lowell plays Hesse, “who is smart, with a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend Tom.” Will he be the father? Nobody knows at this point.

Hopefully, though, this romance goes better for the character than Piz’s did on Veronica Mars, where the titular private investigator dumped him to reunite with her high school boyfriend. Of course, said high school boyfriend was ultimately blown up in the not-so-great Hulu continuation of Veronica Mars, but the less said about that the better.

No other cast members have been revealed for How I Met Your Father. The series is being executive produced by How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer. A release date has not been announced.

Nicolas Cage Searches For His Best Friend (An Actual Pig) In New Movie Trailer

Nicolas Cage has certainly made a lot of interesting choices throughout his career, but even more so over the last decade. And, by the looks of it, that streak continues with his next movie. In Pig, which releases on July 16, he’s a truffle hunter (which is evidently a real job) on the hunt for his friend, an actual pig, after it’s kidnapped. How’s he supposed to find truffles to sell to high-end restaurants without his trusted sidekick?

The movie looks equal parts creepy and dramatic, as a bearded Cage is attacked in the woods and his pig is taken. As the search begins, he appears genuinely distraught without his companion as he makes his way into the city to find out who wronged him (and his pig).

The film also stars Alex Wolff, Adam Arkin, Gretchen Corbett, and a number of others. Michael Sarnoski serves as director of the film, making his feature debut.

Pig is scheduled to hit theaters on July 16. Later this year, Cage has another project releasing that’s highly anticipated. In The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the actor plays a version of himself who is suffering through debt and a strained relationship with his daughter. He also gets wrapped up with the CIA and a Mexican drug cartel because, why not? A release date for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has not been announced.

Madden 22’s MVP Edition Cover Somehow Doesn’t Feature the Literal NFL MVP

When EA revealed Madden 22’s cover earlier today, fans were quick to take note that something was amiss. Despite being the MVP edition cover of the annual NFL sim, it was lacking the most recent MVP.

That would be quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who led the Green Bay Packers to a 13-3 record and another NFC Championship Game appearance (he lost, a fact that brings me great joy as a Minnesota Vikings fan). Right now Rodgers in the midst of a tit-for-tat feud with the Packers (again, great joy), but that hasn’t stopped some fans from wondering about the lack of the current MVP.

Instead, Madden 22’s “ultra-rare two-player cover” is set to feature Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady — two quarterbacks who graced Madden’s cover just recently. Mahomes appeared in Madden 20, and Brady appeared in Madden 18.

Madden had a pretty rough 2020, but as the only NFL sim in town, appearing on the cover still carries with it a certain amount of prestige. If not Rodgers, then Madden 21 could have gone with any number of candidates, such as Aaron Donald or Derrick Henry, or rising stars like Justin Herbert. Instead, Madden 22 is rolling with familiar faces in this version, and people are already bored. Maybe EA should bring back fan voting so Peyton Hillis can be on the cover again.

Either way, Madden 22 is on the way to the Xbox Series X, PS5, PS4, and Xbox One, and we have a preview up listing 10 major improvements. They include homefield advantage, the ability to hire offensive and defensive coordinators, and lots more.

Madden 22 releases August 20.

You Can Now Eat Your Destiny 2 Memes With A Jotunn-Themed Toaster

First, Destiny 2 players noted that Jotunn, a fusion rifle that looks like Mega Man’s Mega Buster arm cannon, looked a lot like a toaster. It fired powerful Solar blasts that instantly cooked people, so it was a fitting description. Next, Bungie teased the community that if it donated enough during a charity live stream, they would create a real Jotunn toaster. And now, that toaster is, in fact, an item you can have in your own personal home.

As noted in its This Week at Bungie blog post, the Jotunn toaster is now available on Bungie’s web store. It toasts the Destiny 2 tricorn logo into your bread so you can share your fandom via sandwiches, and bears a Black Armory logo on the side, just like Jotunn does in-game. It also sports a plastic sandwich case so you can transport your food along with you through space or wherever.

Destiny 2's Jotunn-themed toaster bears its color scheme and Black Armory logo, and also comes with a convenient plastic case for exactly one sandwich.

One notable thing is that while the toaster is themed after Jotunn’s art design, it’s not actually shaped like the notorious in-game toaster, seen below.

Jotunn's square shape and the fact that it fires firey energy blasts that basically flash-fry its targets have led to many a comparison to toasters.
Jotunn’s square shape and the fact that it fires firey energy blasts that basically flash-fry its targets have led to many a comparison to toasters.

Bungie said that’s because a more Jotunn-like design drove up the price of the actual item. Apparently, the most efficient shape for a toaster to be is toaster-shaped.

The birth of this toaster dates back to a June 2020 Bungie livestream for Community Gaming Expo, in which the studio worked to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The stream raised more than $800,000 USD, but as it was happening, Bungie told fans that if the fundraiser managed to hit $777,777.77, (Bungie has an unexplained thing for 7s) they’d consider making the Jotunn toaster. Of course, the number was surpassed, and here we are.

You can preorder the Jotunn toaster now on the Bungie store for $85–which seems pretty reasonable? I have no frame of reference on the cost of toasters. Buying it also gets you an in-game emblem called Burnt Edges, so you can show off your custom toast with an emblem themed on getting that bread. So that’s probably worth the money.

Do Werewolves Play Basketball In Werewolves Within? | Play For All 2021

Werewolves Within producer and star, Sam Richardson, sits down with Kurt to discuss Ubisoft’s upcoming film, Werewolves Within. Werewolves Within is based on the VR game of the same name, and features a whodunnit comedic mystery… with WEREWOLVES.

Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Fan Theory Suggests Ganondorf Will be Playable

During the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct presentation, the company released a roughly 90-second trailer for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it was more than enough to inspire all kinds of fan theories. One theory in particular stands out though, from Barrett Courtney of Kinda Funny, who thinks that the more rugged-looking Link in the trailer is in fact Ganondorf.

Courtney theorized that part of the game would be playing the fall of Ganondorf, which begins the cycle of a hero battling a corrupted Ganon that happens in every game. He thinks that the hero from 10,000 years ago that has been teased is Ganondorf and that the character with the corrupted arm in the trailer–whose face is not shown–isn’t Link but in fact Ganondorf.

Now Playing: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Sequel Trailer Breakdown | E3 2021

“This game will be learning about the fall of Ganondorf the man and then saving him from the evil that has been ruling over him for generations. And in doing so, we’ll break the cycle started by Demise,” Courtney wrote.

He went on to say that he also has a theory on what the official title for the game might be, which Nintendo has kept secret because it might give away part of what the game is about. Courtney theorized it might be called “Demise of the Wild” which plays into the corruption caused by Demise and is a call back to Breath of the Wild, which seems very closely related to this game.
