Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Sets PS5 And Xbox Series X Release Date

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is poised to be one of 2020’s biggest games, and it’s also notable because it’s the first Call of Duty game for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

CharlieIntel reports that Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13 for PS5/Digital PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. That date was already announced for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC editions of the military shooter, and now we know it also applies to the next-gen editions.

A new campaign mission from Black Ops Cold War was shown during the PS5 event, and we also learned a little more about how the game will use the console’s new features. Specifically, Black Ops Cold War will make use of the DualSense controller to provide haptic feedback to help you “feel the impact of every pulse-pounding move and explosion in your hands.” The game also uses Tempest 3D AudioTech to make the game sound better.

While you have to wait until November to play the full game, a free and open alpha for Black Ops Cold War will be available this weekend. The alpha period will let you sample the game’s multiplayer element spanning multiple modes and maps. Pre-loading begins on September 17 at 8 AM PT, while the alpha itself will go live the same time on September 18.

Black Ops Cold War will offer a $70 cross-gen bundle that gets you the game on PS4/Xbox One as well as a next-gen copy for PS5/Xbox Series X/S as long as you’re staying within the same family.

Demon’s Souls PS5 Preorders Are Live Now

The much-anticipated remake of Demon’s Souls is now available to preorder. Bluepoint’s rendition of From Software’s PS3 classic is set to launch alongside the PS5 on November 12, and if you want to play it on release day, you can preorder a copy ahead of time.

During the recent PS5 showcase event, Sony gave us our first look at Demon’s Souls gameplay. It showed off the very first area you play through, with what appears to be no loading times between warps. It all looks similar to the original game but with much more detailed visuals and in 4K accompanied by 60 frames per second. We see the player take on the area’s enemies and then finish off with the Vanguard demon boss–and just like the first game requires, they die. From there we see a montage of different areas and enemies.

Some next-gen games will cost $70 instead of this generation’s typical $60. This happens to be the case with Demon’s Souls as well. The PlayStation Store’s listing isn’t live yet, so we can’t compare the price digitally, but we don’t expect the prices to differ.

If you’re interested in preordering the PS5 and more games, check out our PS5 preorder guide as well as our roundup of listings for Spider-Man: Mile Morales. Retailers like Best Buy, GameStop, and Target are starting to accept preorders for the console, accessories, and games, but you’ll want to act fast as supplies are very limited.

GameStop Confirms It Will Sell The All-Digital PS5 And Xbox Series S

Now that both models of the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles have been announced, priced, and dated, retailer GameStop has revealed pre-order details for all four of them.

GameStop has immediately begun taking pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, though the site is currently slammed and you may have trouble securing an order. Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, meanwhile, will start at 8 AM PT on September 22.

One important thing to note here is that GameStop is limiting pre-orders to one version of each next-gen console per household.

The fact that GameStop is stocking the digital PS5 and Xbox Series consoles at all is noteworthy given that the retailer bristled at the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The company did not stock the console for a period of time before relenting and opting to sell it. A significant part of GameStop’s business relies on physical media, and specifically trade-ins, and these do not exist in a digital landscape, which in theory could hurt the company’s bottom line.

GameStop also announced that it will offer a variety of payment plans for the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles. First off, customers can apply the GameStop Credit Card and pay off the console on a credit basis. Shoppers can also make use of a new “rent-to-own” payment plan where you can pay off the console over a period of time, which is not unlike the Xbox All Access subscription program from Microsoft that GameStop will also sell at its stores.

Additionally, GameStop is partnering with QuadPay and other payment platform providers to offer a a “buy now, pay later” program where you can pay off the console in four chunks over a period of six weeks.

Outside of these payment plans, you can trade in your old console and apply the credit toward a PS5 or Xbox Series console. For example, GameStop will pay you $175 in store credit for either the PS4 Pro or Xbox Series X, which means you can get the PS5 or Xbox Series X for only $325. You can visit GameStop’s trade-in page to find out how much your console is worth in trade-in value.

Of course, GameStop is one of numerous retailers in the US and abroad that are offering the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles for pre-order. Check out GameSpot’s pre-order guides below to find out more.

Horizon Forbbidden West Will Also Release On PS4, Not Just PS5

Turns out Sony isn’t making as clean a break with this next console generation as previously thought–much like Microsoft, several of Sony’s first-party titles are releasing on both PS4 and PS5. During the September 2020 PS5 Showcase, we learned that Horizon Forbidden West will be one such game, along with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

“We know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives,” Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan wrote in a blog post about the price and release date for PS5. “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4.”

Ryan went on to clarify that because these three games are specifically designed for the PS5, the PS4 versions will lack support for certain features, like the PS5’s SSD’s fast loading times and DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. They’ll be the same games otherwise, though.

This isn’t to say all of Sony’s first-party games will be cross-gen. Several of the titles revealed during the showcase are scheduled to exclusively release on next-gen, including Santa Monica Studio’s next God of War title.

GameStop, Best Buy Have PS5 Preorders, But the Sites Are Slammed

The Sony PS5 is now available for preorder! At least in theory. With major retailers like Best Buy and Walmart going down for hours at a time, PlayStation 5 preorders haven’t exactly rolled out smoothly. But we’re here to help. Here’s how to get your hands on a shiny new PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition.

Where to Preorder PS5

Latest update (11:08 PM EST): BestBuy’s PS5 preorders seem to be sold out for now. GameStop PS5 preorders are coming on and offline, but may now be fully sold out as well.

These links below are your first and best choice from buying a PS5. None of them had easy-to-purchase stock last time we checked, but things are changing rapidly! We’re always keeping these links up to date, so check these first:

[poilib element=”commerceDeal” parameters=”slug=playstation-5-retailer-preorder-pages&type=list”]

Walmart put out a statement saying if you missed out on preordering through its website, you’ll be able to “pre-order in Walmart stores on 9/22 for $499 (digital edition for $399).”

Amazon’s placeholder page initially had item details, but it has since been taken it down. If an Amazon link or other retailer link changes or is swapped we will update this pages to always maintain the latest, so keep checking back.

Sony started sending out invitations for preorders to those who signed up on their site. Check your inbox to see if you have one. If so, you can grab yours on Friday.

Also, while you’re here, you can get much more immediate stock updates by following IGN Deals on Twitter.

GameStop PS5 Preorder Bundles

If you don’t mind paying more, but also getting more, when you preorder PS5, check out one of these preorder bundles at GameStop:

Preorders for PS5 were supposed to begin in full tomorrow, September 17, at certain retailers, according to a tweet from Sony. But with Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop all putting up their preorders early, we aren’t sure what that means for the “official” PS5 preorder date. Maybe they’ll have more stock, or maybe they’re now fully sold out. We’ll let you know as soon as things change.

PS5 Game Preorders

Most AAA PS5 launch and launch window games are now thankfully up for preorder from most retailers, including Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and others bring more games online we’re adding to and expanding these lists:

PS5 Controllers and Accessory Preorders

PS5 Dualsense controllers are available for preorder for $69.99 from almost every major retailer, for now only in signature while. We’re still waiting to see if we’ll get any other Dualsense colors before launch.

PS5 Release Date, Price, and Recent News

Both versions of the PS5, with or without a disc drive, have a November 12 release date in the US. And we now know how much PS5 costs: $499 for the standard version, and $399 for the discless digital-only model.

Earlier, developers shared their takes on the SSD and 3D Audio features of the upcoming console. It’s shaping up to be a very cool console. Sony also set up a page for PS Plus members to sign up for a chance to secure a PS5 preorder directly from Sony.

We also got news Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart is definitely a PS5 launch game, but during Gamescom it was confirmed to be a “launch window” game, which could mean anything.

If you’re just here for the console wars, you can check out our article on where to sign up for Xbox Series X preorders.

Where to Preorder PS5 in the UK

The “global rollout” for PS5’s release happens on November 19. Here’s where you can find links for PS5 preorders in the UK:

Pre-orders for UK retailer GAME have gone up early, and you can currently pre-order a number of different PS5 bundles from the online retailer. PS5 games have also gone up for pre-order, alongside several new accessories. PS5 costs £449.99 from GAME, with the digital edition costing £359.99.

Will PS5 Be Easy to Get?

So far, it’s been very tough. Sure, lots of people have preordered their PS5 or PS5 Digital, but it’s not without a few hiccups or total site-outages.

PS5 Price

The PS5 standard console with a disc drive costs $499, while the discless version will cost $399.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/20/first-ps5-trailer-teases-next-gen-features”]

PS5 Game Prices

The good news is we know games like Far Cry 6 support free upgrades from PS4 to PS5. While it looked as though all PS5 and Xbox Series X games will cost $70, more recent developments seem to point to publishers holding onto the current $59.99 price for many new games, at least for the time being. It appears now many first-party Sony PS5 games will cost $70 after all, including Demon’s Souls and Destruction All Stars. However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has a $50 price tag, and looks amazing by the way.

For a look at the first round of PS5 games, make sure to check out our guide to the PS5 launch game line-up.

Will My PS4 Controller Work on PS5?

No. Well, not at least for PS5 games. Sony confirmed the DualShock 4 won’t work for playing PS5 games, but you WILL be able to use your existing PS4 controllers to play “supported PS4 games.” Speaking of which…

Will PS5 Be Backwards Compatible?

Yes. Well, for PS4, we know some supported games will work. In a (now removed) entry on its support page, Ubisoft said of PS5 backwards compatibility it “will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games.” So unlike Xbox, which is leaning into backwards compatibility all the way back to the original Xbox as a selling point, it looks like PS5 backwards compatibility comes with some asterisks.

However, Sony introduced the PlayStation Plus Collection, Sony’s answer to Xbox Game Pass. At launch, PS Plus members will be able to download and play some of the biggest PS4 games as part of their subscription.

Godfall Confirmed As A PS5 Launch Title

We’re still learning the full PS5 launch line-up now that we know that the system is releasing on November 12 for $500 (or $400 for the digital edition). One PS5 game that was announced early, Godfall, has now been announced as a launch title, meaning that you can grab it alongside the new system.

Godfall was actually the very first game confirmed for PS5, first revealed in December 2019. It’s a third-person, loot-heavy action game developed by Counterplay Games, and it’ll be coming to the Epic Game Store on November 12, too.

The co-op game will feature no microtransactions, which is especially welcome news since the price of PS5 games has crept up a bit.

For an in-depth preview of Godfall from GameSpot, check out Phil Hornshaw’s feature, Godfall Looks To Create Its Own Genre With Better Loot And Skillful Combat.

You can check out GameSpot’s Godfall preorder guide to make sure you get the action-RPG on day one. The PS5 version isn’t up yet, but you can take a stab at getting your hands on the console itself with our PS5 preorder guide.

Nvidia 30-Series Go on Sale Tomorrow Morning: Here’s When

UPDATE: According to Newegg, the 3080 cards go on sale at 6 AM PT/9 AM ET tomorrow, September 17.

This might be one of the most exciting times in gaming I can recall. Not only did we get Oculus Quest 2 news today, we’re also getting the very-real possibility of PS5 preorder news and the RTX 3080 graphics cards from Nvidia launch tomorrow, September 17.

But where can you get yourself one of these powerful new cards? The good news is retailers already have placeholder pages ready to go live whenever Nvidia gives the order from on high. The bad news is, since there weren’t any preorders for the RTX 3080, it’s likely this will be a very popular card.

If you weren’t aware, the 3080 is amazing. In our RTX 3080 review, we praised its price-point and power, calling it a dramatic improvement over its predecessor.

Where to Buy RTX 3080 Graphics Cards

These links aren’t live yet, but this is where you’ll find the pages to order your RTX 3080. Be sure to check them often once the sales period goes online. We don’t have an exact timing yet, but we do know RTX 3080 cards go on sale September 17.

[poilib element=”commerceDeal” parameters=”slug=nvidia-30-series-preorders”]

When Will the Other 30-Series Graphics Cards Be Available?

We know the more powerful (and significantly more expensive) RTX 3090 will be available to buy on September 24. As for the 3070, we don’t have a firm date just yet.
