Here’s what George Clooney Learned After Batman & Robin Bombed

1997’s Batman & Robin, which was director Joel Schumacher’s second Bat-flick and star George Clooney’s first (and only) at-bat playing Bats, was a box office bust that killed off Warner Bros.’ first Bat-franchise, ending the run that began with Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989.

Recently, George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer, who both starred together in 1996’s One Fine Day, appeared together for Variety’s Actors on Actors, and during the chat Clooney told Pfeiffer, who herself was in Batman Returns from the same franchise, what he’d learned from being in such an expensive flop.

Clooney, who’s insisted for many years that his performance was also a big part of the movie’s failure, even going so far as to tell Ben Affleck not to play Batman when he was first offered the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, decided to go forward focusing on entire projects and not just his role in them.

“After Batman & Robin came out, and it was a big bomb – you learn from your failures; you don’t learn from successes,” he said. “So then I thought, I have to focus really on the script. It’s not just about my part; it’s about the whole movie. The next three films I did were Out of Sight, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Three Kings, which were really great screenplays. They didn’t all do very well financially, but they were all critically well received.”

“It became clear to me that you can make a bad film out of a good script, but you can’t make a good film out of a bad script,” Clooney added. “I gravitate toward pieces that interest me. They don’t always end up working, because there are so many things that can go wrong, including me.”

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which has had a turbulent production schedule this past year due to the pandemic, is now due out in 2022, as the movie industry continues adjusting its schedule. And in other DCEU Bat-news, Michael Keaton’s Batman is expected to make an appearance in The Flash movie, opposite Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen.

Where to Preorder RTX 30 Series Gaming Laptops Right Now

The new generation of gaming laptops is here! The RTX 30XX video cards were a huge step forward in the gaming PC category, and we’re all expecting big things for the newly announced RTX 30XX mobile processors as well. Several different options are now available, mostly at Newegg, with more to come later this month.. Benchmarks haven’t been released yet, but personally I’d be disappointed if these cards didn’t match up to the performance jumps we saw on the desktop vide card variants. If the new RTX 30XX mobile lineup does indeed live up to expectations, these new generation of laptops may sell out in very short order. If you’re actively hunting for a new gaming laptop right now, It’s best to be safe and preorder one of these new models in advance, since recent history has proven that it’s easier to cancel or return your preorder than to later secure something in high demand.

A note on Newegg preorders: If you are unable to add to cart, simply scroll down the Newegg product page a bit and a popup will show up at the top of the page with an “Add to Cart” button.

Talk Show Legend Larry King Dies At 87

Talk show host Larry King, whose career spanned several decades and included a number of cameo appearances as himself in movies and TV shows, has died at 87. King had been treated for COVID-19 and had previously been in the ICU.

“For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television, and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster,” said Ora Media in a post on King’s Twitter. “Additionally, while it was his name appearing in the shows’ titles, Larry always viewed his interview subjects as the true stars of his programs, and himself as merely an unbiased conduit between the guest and the audience.”

King didn’t take himself seriously in interviews, leading to some pretty hilarious moments when his guests were allowed to steer the conversation. For example, Ben Schwartz spoke to him about the then-upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film, prompting King to attempt a hedgehog voice that he thought would fit the movie.

Alongside his hosting, King also made appearances in dozens of films and television shows, usually playing himself. This included a role in the original Ghostbusters, Shrek 2, WWE Raw, and Enemy of the State.

Tony Hawk Dev Vicarious Visions Reportedly Making Diablo 2 Remake At Blizzard

Activision Blizzard recently made the surprising decision to merge Vicarious Visions–the studio behind Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2–into Blizzard to support other projects. One of those projects is, at least reportedly, a Diablo 2 remake while others at Blizzard continue working on Diablo 4.

According to Bloomberg, issues with the development of Warcraft III: Reforged made Blizzard reconsider the teams it had developing games moving forward, with its classic games “Team 1” being pulled off the project and replaced by a division that is also handling Diablo 4. Among the developers also working on that project includes the Vicarious Visions team. It’s the second time a Tony Hawk developer has been absorbed into another studio, with Neversoft joining Infinity Ward in 2014.

That Diablo 2 remake hasn’t been formally announced by Blizzard, but it could be a stopgap release to make the wait for Diablo 4 a little easier. What won’t be easy is dealing with the studio behind one of 2020’s best games getting pulled off its own projects to assist with it. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 not only managed to replicate what made the original games great, such as the level design and sound, but also delivered a core skating experience that felt like it was made today. Nearly every song from the original two games was kept for the remake, as well.

The Diablo franchise will certainly have no shortage of releases going forward if everything reported comes to fruition. Alongside Diablo 4, Blizzard will also release Diablo Immortal for mobile devices, which features classes from previous games like Demon Hunter, Monk, Crusader, and Barbarian. Blizzard continues work on World of Warcraft and Overwatch 2, as well.
