The Perfect 4KTV for PS5 or Xbox Series X Is On Sale Today

One of these days, we’ll have pricing and preorder details for PS5 and Xbox Series X. But for now, we just have lots of promises of our next-gen futures. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare yourself now to be fully immersed in the next-gen consoles’ capabilities, however. One of the best TVs around is marked down $350 at Newegg right now, meaning you can tweak and calibrate your screen well ahead of the “holiday release” for both new consoles.

The LG CX series TVs feature 4 HDMI inputs, all of which support 4K signals at 120Hz. That means no matter what input you use, you’ll be able to enjoy PS5 and Xbox Series X games at 120fps (if the games support that framerate).

One thing I need to point out: in order to actually take advantage of a 4K/120Hz signal from your next gen console, you’re going to need an HDMI cable supporting the HDMI 2.1 standard. A 4K signal at that refresh rate requires a massive amount of data, something the HDMI cables you currently use almost certainly don’t support. We don’t know if the Xbox Series X or PS5 will include HDMI 2.1 cables, but to be fair, we also don’t know lots of crucial details about these two systems. I’d be surprised to find they don’t have the cables in the box, but they’re a bit more costly than your standard HDMI cable, so who knows?

Another cool thing about the CX series is it supports composite hook-ups, although you’ll need an adapter. That’s good news if you want to hook up your N64 or something, although personally I don’t recommend using modern TVs to play classic games. But I’m a huge dweeb, so who am I to dissuade you from having fun? Go wild.

Save some money now, and fully prepare yourself for when PS5 preorders and Xbox Series X preorders go live.

Marvel’s Avengers Has A Bunch Of Exclusive Cosmetics

Marvel’s Avengers‘ developer Crystal Dynamics upset many fans last week when it announced that Spider-Man is joining the upcoming game’s roster as a PlayStation-exclusive character. The popular web-slinger isn’t the only exclusive appearing in the superhero action game, however, as publisher Square Enix has also inked deals with various other companies.

Verizon Up customers in the US and Virgin Media customers in Europe will be able to redeem a pack of in-game skins when Marvel’s Avengers launches next month, as reported by JayShockBlast on YouTube. There’s also another set of exclusive skins on offer as part of a promotion with Intel, which could possibly be bundled with the company’s Avengers-branded KA CPUs, and another promotion with special packs of 5 Gum that unlocks an exclusive bubble-blowing emote, smaller in-game cosmetics, and virtual currency.

A Reddit post reportedly shows the promotional skins, which you can see below:

These skins appear to be simple recolors of costumes that already exist in the game, and promotional deals like this are nothing new. However, all of these promotional deals could make it impossible not to feel like you’re missing out on content one way or another, even if you’re playing on PlayStation.

Spider-Man’s exclusivity is part of a wider global marketing deal between Square Enix and PlayStation, which also includes early beta access for PS4 players (which just ended), timed-exclusive cosmetics, and free bundles for PS Plus subscribers. When asked about Spider-Man’s exclusivity, Crystal Dynamics’ studio head Scot Amos told IGN Japan that Xbox and PC players who want to play as the wall-crawler “have the option to do so on PlayStation.”

Marvel’s Avengers is hosting another beta this weekend from August 14-16 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The PS4 beta is open to everyone, while those on Xbox One and PC can access it by pre-ordering the game. The full game is set to launch on September 4 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions releasing at some point later in the year.

Exclusive New Poster for Netflix’s Tom Holland-Robert Pattinson Movie

IGN has your first look at the poster for The Devil All the Time, an upcoming Netflix Original Movie starring Spider-Man’s Tom Holland and The Batman’s Robert Pattinson.

The period piece, directed by Antonio Campos, releases exclusively worldwide on Netflix on September 16.

Based on Donald Ray Pollock’s award-winning novel, The Devil All the Time spans the decades between World War II and the Vietnam War and, according to Netflix, it is set against “a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted.”

DAT_Vertical_Teaser_IGNThis official synopsis sheds more light on the film’s plot and its protagonists:

“In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) — converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family.”

The ensemble cast also includes Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Haley Bennett, and Pokey Lafarge.

Crash Bandicoot 4 for Switch Potentially Revealed

A Nintendo Switch release for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time may have been revealed thanks to placeholder code found on the game’s website.

Twitter user @SunwerPrower tweeted a picture of the It’s About Time website source code last Friday, which refers to the Nintendo Switch in a section of the code referred to as ‘PlatformLabel’.

Viewing the page source still reveals that section at time of writing, with no corresponding option listed on the live site. This doesn’t absolutely confirm a Nintendo Switch release for Crash Bandicoot 4, but it suggests that it may become an option in the near future, perhaps revealed later down the line.

Given that the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy made its way to the Nintendo Switch around a year after its initial PS4 release, it seems very possible we could see a similar move here.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was revealed back in June and will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020. It will be the second Crash Bandicoot game from Toys for Bob, which delivered the remastered collection Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in 2018. You can check out our review of the N. Sane Trilogy here, which we scored an 8.5, calling it “N. credible fun”

The Far Cry Survival Manual Apparently Has Practical Advice For Surviving In The Wild

The Far Cry series is known for its dangerous open worlds filled with threats from both other humans and wild animals. The over-the-top nature of the franchise has always made Far Cry feel a tad more lighthearted and humorous than the worlds themselves. So it will be interesting to learn the tone of the upcoming Far Cry Survival Manual, a book that will be published February 21, 2021, just days after the release of Far Cry 6. The Far Cry Survival Manual is available to pre-order now at Amazon for $30.

If you’re skeptical about the practicality of the book, you’re most likely not alone. It’s probably a safe bet that you wouldn’t actually want to be dropped into the jungle with The Far Cry Survival Manual as your only resource. However, it might make for an interesting read, especially the sections about extreme sports and stunt driving. The Far Cry Survival Manual is 192 pages and comes in “flexibound” binding, mirroring instructional guides of its type.

The Far Cry Survival Manual isn’t the only unique upcoming book inspired by a Ubisoft franchise. Watch Dogs Legion: Resistance Report will chronicle an American reporter’s investigation into the unstable world depicted in Legion. And if you’re looking forward to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there’s an art book releasing the same day as the game that’s up for pre-order.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Will Be Interviewed Inside Animal Crossing By Star Wars Writer

Here’s a sentence we never could have predicted writing, but which makes perfect sense in 2020: Xbox boss Phil Spencer will be interviewed inside Animal Crossing by the writer of a Star Wars movie.

Spencer will appear on the August 12 episode of Animal Talking, the interview show run by Star Wars: Rogue One writer Gary Whitta that is held inside the world of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Given that Microsoft is in the midst of a very important year with the launch of the Xbox Series X, xCloud, and Halo Infinite, this seems like it could be a great interview.

Spencer will appear on the show alongside actor Dylan Sprouse and musical guest Lisa Loeb.

Whitta started Animal Talking earlier this year, and it’s taken off in a big way. Some of his previous guests included other popular people in the gaming world like Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, Cory Barlog, and Cliff Bleszinski, as well as singers Selena Gomez and Sting, just to name a few. Actor Danny Trejo also has a recurring segment on the show where he shows off his Animal Crossing island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a mega-hit for Nintendo. The game has sold a breathtaking 22.4 million copies to become the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game ever, only trailing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (26.74 million copies sold).

As for Whitta, he is the former editor-in-chief of PC Gamer magazine. Before he worked on Rogue One, Whitta wrote the Denzel Washington movie The Book of Eli and the Will Smith film After Earth. In addition to Animal Talking, Whitta recently sold one of his scripts for a “big” new movie.

Red Dead Online Players Think Naturalist Update Broke Their Horses

A recent Red Dead Redemption 2 Online update added the Naturalist specialty–an animal-focused role that gives players more ways to interact with the game’s wildlife. However, some players are claiming that since the new update was added, their own horses have been behaving a little… strangely.

As reported by Kotaku, the changes have been noticed by a number of Reddit users. “Is it just me or are horses even dumber than usual since the update?” one Reddit thread asked, while another chronicled their horse simply disappearing from underneath them.

Some of the complaints involve obvious bugs like the latter, with horses disappearing, ignoring calls, and straight-up flying through the air. Others are less perceptible, however, with players taking to Reddit to check if their horse was really acting dumber than usual, or if they were just unlucky.

These players have reported their horses bolting at the slightest provocation, tripping and throwing riders on minor obstacles, and generally being difficult to control–even on horses they’ve had for a long time, and achieved full bonds with.

Other players have reported problems with wagons, as well as horse cores draining faster than usual.

Though the apparently bugged update has been live for over a week, the issue hasn’t been acknowledged by Rockstar’s Support account. Players may yet be stuck with dumb horses until the next update arrives.

Watch This Awesome Halo Infinite Guitar Cover

Microsoft only just started publishing tracks from Halo Infinite‘s OST, but the Halo community is already getting creative with it.

Developer 343’s latest Spotlight blog post highlights a guitar cover of Gareth Coker’s song, “Set A Fire In Your Heart” by chicken alexander bonez on YouTube. This guitar cover really turns things up to 11 and provides a much more metal spin on the normally orchestral track. Check it out below.

The Halo community over the years has proven to be very committed and creative. Halo 5‘s Forge mode spawned all manner of great and unique content like Star Wars podracing and beer pong.

“Set A Fire In Your Heart” is the second track from Halo Infinite’s OST that has been released so far. The other one is “Reverie,” by the game’s other composer, Curtis Schweitzer. Presumably it will only be a matter of time before someone publishes a guitar cover of this song, too.

Halo Infinite is a launch title for the Xbox Series X, releasing this holiday. The game will also come to the standard Xbox One as well as PC. For lots more, check out GameSpot’s video overview that covers everything you need to know about Halo Infinite.

Microsoft also recently announced that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free. For more on that subject, check out GameSpot’s recent editorial, “Why Free Halo Infinite Multiplayer Is Such A Smart Move.”

Martin Scorsese’s Crime Drama With Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Nero Will Shoot Next Year

Martin Scorsese’s next movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, was originally meant to film this past March. Now, the film has set new production dates after delaying due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Osage News is reporting that the film, which will film in Osage County, Oklahoma, is now set to begin filming in February 2021.

According to Geoffrey Standing Bear, the principal chief of Osage, the film will be shot over 16 weeks. The film is expected to create a lot of work for local residents. Chad Renfro and Addie Roanhorse are serving as Osage Nation ambassadors for the film, which is an adaptation of David Grann’s non-fiction book of the same name.

“With safety for all being of greatest concern, once the industry protocol has been established and it is safe to embark on this important project, they will reach back out to us,” Renfro said in a statement.

The film is set to star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in starring roles. DiCaprio has previously worked with Scorsese on The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street, whereas this will be De Niro and Scorsese’s 10th film together.

Another (much smaller) part will be played by the auction winner who scored a walk-on role in the film.

The movie, which will release on Apple TV+, is said to have a budget of $200 million–which could still be lower than what it cost to make The Irishman.
