The Best Nintendo Switch Eshop Deals Of The Week (US)

The biggest shopping day of the year may have come and gone, but the deals haven’t dried up yet. Right now, a number of games on the Nintendo Switch Eshop are on sale, giving you an opportunity to load up on some excellent titles for cheap. But because the Eshop doesn’t have regular weekly sales, these games could go back up to regular price at any time–so if you see a deal you want, grab it. Let’s dive in and look at some of the highlights.

You can save a few bucks on a handful of titles that aren’t out just yet. Everspace Stellar Edition launches December 11, but buying it early gets you 20% off, bringing the price down to $32. Guacamelee 2 is on sale for 10% off ($18) ahead of its launch on December 10, but if you own the original game, you get 30% off. Another 10% pre-order discount is available on Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, a prequel to the original game that you can get now for $27 before its December 7 release.

Retro game fans can grab the shooter R-Type Dimensions EX for $12 and the platformer Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for $10. If you’re into modern games made in the retro style, you may want to grab Volgar the Viking for $5 or Mutant Mudds Collection for $7.50. And if fast-paced action is your thing, you won’t be disappointed with Velocity 2X for $10.

Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Adds Three More Games

Microsoft has notched three more Xbox One backwards compatible games to its growing list. This trio includes a cult favorite action-RPG, a Sonic game, and a game based on a pair of famous movie properties.

The three additions are Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Sonic Unleashed, and Aliens vs Predator. Amalur was a single-player RPG developed by Big Huge Games and the now-defunct 38 Studios. It was meant to introduce the world in preparation for an Amalur MMORPG, but that project never got off the ground. As a result of it being the only project from a studio that received a sizable loan from the state of Rhode Island, it was also the center of some legal drama. Earlier this year, THQ acquired the rights to the franchise.

Sonic Unleashed is one of the 3D Sonic games, which tended to come with their own gimmick. In this one, Sonic would transform into a powerful werehog, to less-than-spectacular results. Aliens vs Predator is a 2010 action game that puts you into the shoes of the title Aliens, singularly deadly Predator, and gooey Colonial Marines.

While Sonic and Aliens vs Predator received middling-to-bad reviews, Kingdoms of Amalur actually got a fairly positive reception. In the GameSpot review, critic Kevin VanOrd credited its “wonderful battles against cool creatures, terrific looting and leveling, and lots of ways to customize your skills and equipment.”

As always, if you own these games already, you can simply put the disc into your Xbox One and start playing. If you own them digitally you can find them in your game collection and redownload them. Check out our full list of backwards compatible games for more.

Fortnite: Where Are Vehicle Timed Trials Locations (Week 10)

Season 6 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is winding down, and its final set of challenges of this season are now available for Week 10. Among them is one tasking you to complete vehicle timed trials. You’ll need to do a total of three, but there’s no indication of where the timed trials are located or how to go about completing this challenge. Here’s where to go and what to do.

At a basic level, the vehicle timed trials are similar to the non-vehicle ones in the past; you go to a location (as outlined in the map and list below), start the trial, and race through markers as you make your way to the finish. The key difference here is that you’ll first need to secure a vehicle; you aren’t given one when you start the trial. You’re able to try completing it on foot, but in our experience that isn’t realistically possible.

Vehicle spawns are generally random in Fortnite, but you may have luck tracking down a golf cart at Lazy Links. Alternatively, a reliable spot we’ve found is just outside Junk Junction. To the east, just on the line separating C1 and C2, you can find a race track with four ATVs available. Conveniently, two of the timed trials are located fairly close by, so you should at least be able to easily use these ATVs (provided they do spawn in) to complete those.

However you obtain a vehicle, you’ll next want to head to one of the timed trials locations. There are at least five on the map, including those near Lazy Links, Junk Junction, Flush Factory, and Dusty Divot. Once you start the timed trial, a series of flags will appear, and you’ll need to make your way through each of them before time expires. The actual racing is relatively straightforward; you shouldn’t have any trouble seeing the flags or where you need to go–the tricky bit is securing a vehicle and finding the timed trial itself.

Fortnite Vehicle Timed Trials Locations (Week 10)

  • northwest of Junk Junction, in the middle of B1
  • northwest of Lazy Links, in the bottom left of F2
  • east of Dusty Divot, in the middle of G5
  • east of Retail Row and south-southwest of Lonely Lodge, in the top-middle of I6
  • north-northeast of Flush Factory, in the upper right of D9

Alongside the other Week 10 challenges, such as the one that tasks you with visiting a camel and other objects, this represents the end of Season 6. Season 7 is just around the corner, although there’s been no official word regarding what it will consist of or exactly when it will launch.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy Vs. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy | Versus

As we’ve seen with the SNES Classic and the PlayStation Classic, nostalgia is a powerful tool used frequently by games publishers. Activision harnessed the power of nostalgia to great effect last year with the release of Crash Bandicoot’s N. Sane Trilogy, a remaster of the marsupial’s first three outings from the original PlayStation. Now, the company has released a similar package for Spyro’s holy trinity, but how does the Reignited Trilogy stack up against Crash’s fare?

Watch the video above to see our thoughts on which remaster trilogy is best in the year 2018. Of course, your opinion may differ dramatically depending on whether you preferred Crash’s first three games or Spyro’s original trilogy. The original Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped have certainly gone down in gaming folklore as some of the most beloved platformers around. Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage (also known as Gateway to Glimmer), and Spyro: Year of the Dragon have a similar level of reverence from fans, however.

Let us know which remaster trilogy you prefer in the comments below. Would you like to see more Crash and Spyro games come to current gen?

Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition Flub Leads To Free In-Game Currency For Buyers

Following a controversy surrounding changes to a physical item in the Fallout 76 Collector’s Edition, the Power Armor Edition, Bethesda is offering a make-good in the form of in-game currency. The offer extends only to those who bought the $200 Power Armor Edition, which was discovered to contain a nylon duffel bag rather than the canvas one that had been advertised in promotional materials.

In a tweet, the company directed affected users to support page that outlines how to open a request. Those who can provide a proof of purchase for the Power Armor Edition will be given 500 Atoms, the in-game currency for Fallout 76. 500 Atoms is a relatively low amount of currency, though. It equals about $5, and can purchase one or two of a few small cosmetic items.

The controversy began when purchasers of the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition noticed the bag delivered wasn’t as advertised. One such fan reached out to Bethesda support, and received a curt reply that the company was “not planning on doing anything about it.” The company subsequently apologized for that response, and blaming the change on “unavailability of materials.”

The official store listing now shows nylon listed in the text with an image that still refers to the bag as canvas. On a cached version of that store page from November 20, the text still reads canvas as well. Bethesda has not responded to GameSpot’s inquiries regarding when buyers were notified of the change.

Troubles seem to be mounting for Fallout 76. After a rocky launch with a mixed reception, this backlash has added to a poor perception that appears to be building around it. On top of that, a law firm is looking into its refund policy for disappointed customers. For its part, Bethesda has acknowledged some “frustrating issues” surrounding the game and has committed to supporting it long-term. It has already laid out a roadmap of upcoming changes.

Aquaman Opening Weekend Box Office Tracking Revealed

Aquaman is tracking for domestic opening weekend sales of at least $65 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report cites Warner Bros. insiders for this high number, but if Aquaman crosses the $65 million mark during its opening weekend, the film could continue past $85 million by Christmas Day, with one major tracking service predicting it could near $100 million.

With Jason Momoa in the title role, Aquaman will debut the weekend of Dec. 21-23 and will go up against Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee. Of these three, Aquaman is expected to earn the most during this period.

5 Predictions for the 2018 Game Awards

The Game Awards airs live on Thursday, December 6 (watch it live on IGN starting at 6pm PT/9pm ET). Over the years, host and executive producer Geoff Keighley has built the event into not only a celebration of the gaming year coming to a close but a look ahead at the one to come. With that, we’ve got a few predictions on what announcements may be in store for us at the last major gaming event of 2018.

Yeah, Reggie just downplayed anything happening anytime soon with Nintendo’s third pillar. But the fact of the matter is that they’ve probably got something to show by now, even if it’s just a CG trailer. And Keighley has a knack of getting major exclusives out of Nintendo. Look no further than 2014, when he scored a video of Miyamoto running around Hyrule from a Nintendo conference room. As someone who does this for a living, I can assure you, getting that is no easy task. Or take last year, when Zelda’s Master Cycle was revealed at The Game Awards. Point is, I think Reggie is playing coy, and Metroid is coming out to play – in some form – at this year’s event.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Gets A Nice Discount–But It Won’t Last Long (PS4, Xbox One)

If you missed out on the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, there’s no need to despair. A number of great deals on recently released games are still alive and well. For instance, you can get Battlefield V for just $30. But if you prefer the Call of Duty style of shooter, you’re not left out in the cold. Even though it just came out last month, you can get the PS4 or Xbox One versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for just $40 right now, no strings attached.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 comes with all-new versions of the series’ well-established multiplayer and Zombies modes. But instead of the third pillar being a single-player campaign like in previous installments, developer Treyarch has introduced a new online mode called Blackout. Blackout is a battle royale-style mode that has around 100 players drop onto an island and fight it out as the playing field shrinks. The match ends when only one player or team is left standing.

Critic Kallie Plagge scored the game 8/10 in GameSpot’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 review, summing it up like this: “Black Ops 4 isn’t short on content, and its three main modes are substantial. Multiplayer introduces more tactical mechanics without forcing you into them, and it largely strikes a good balance. Zombies has multiple deep, secret-filled maps to explore, though its returning characters don’t hold up and prove distracting. Finally, Blackout pushes Call of Duty in an entirely new direction, making use of aspects from both multiplayer and Zombies for a take on the battle royale genre that stands on its own. Sure, there isn’t a traditional single-player campaign, but with the depth and breadth of what is there, Black Ops 4 doesn’t need it.”

If that sounds like a game you want to try for yourself or buy for someone on your shopping list this holiday, grab it quickly. The sale price ends today at Target, and Walmart may follow suit.
