Bruce Dern Replaces Burt Reynolds in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Bruce Dern is set to replace the late Burt Reynolds in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film based on the Manson Family murders, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

As reported by Deadline, Dern will play the role of George Spahn, a rancher who owned Spahn Ranch in California and rented the venue out for filmmakers to shoot western movies. Spahn is now mostly known for allowing the Manson Family cult to reside at Spahn Ranch, and the murders of actress Sharon Tate and many others were allegedly planned at this location.

Dern became friends with Reynolds after co-starring in two films with him: the western TV movie Hard Ground, and the action TV movie Hard Time. Dern has also worked with Tarantino in his latest two films, playing General Sandy Smithers in The Hateful Eight, and Old Man Carrucan in Django Unchained.

Overlord Review: Producer JJ Abrams’ Great New Horror Film

This is an advance review out of Fantastic Fest.

Remember when everyone was certain that Overlord was going to be set in the Cloverfield-universe (and started calling it Cloverlord)? Well, it’s not but the film is finally here, and it is a lot of fun! Director Julius Avery has crafted an impressive film that is often more Saving Private Ryan than 28 Days Later.

Just like the first Predator, Overlord starts as a war drama, and then quickly switches gears and goes full monster film. We begin, much like Saving Private Ryan, with a scene of soldiers trying to invade France. It’s a nerve-wracking airdrop sequence that sets the tone for the rest of the film, where we get to know a group of American soldiers and listen to their banter, just before the plane gets shot down and we see the agonizing and harrowing reality of war. It’s a gorgeous and gritty scene, with rounds going off and planes exploding against the dark background of nighttime France, and Avery shoots the scene with the intensity of a veteran director (Overlord is only his second full-length feature).

Fortnite’s Shadow Stones Disabled Because Ghosts Are Killing Players

Shadow Stones, one of Fortnite’s new Season 6 additions, are being temporarily removed after players encountered a rash of problems with them, reports Kotaku.

Specifically, the items are making players permanently invisible, letting them use all their items and abilities while invisible, making them permanently move faster and jump higher, permanently granting them the dash ability, and allowing them to glitch inside trucks.

Dying Light: Bad Blood’s Steam Debut Sees Fewer Than 500 Players at Its Peak

Dying Light’s battle royale standalone failed to impress during its debut week on Steam.

Techland’s attempt at hopping on the battle royale bandwagon hasn’t panned out very well so far, with Bad Blood peaking at 455 concurrent players during its first week on Steam, according to GitHyp.

The figure has continued to fall since then, with the concurrent player count falling to below 100 this week.

Dying Light: Bad Blood launched as a $20/ £16 standalone on September 13, and has mixed reviews on Steam, compared to Dying Light’s very positive reviews, and while it’s still in Early Access, it doesn’t seem to have generated much interest in the community, judging by the player count.

Justin Bieber Producer, Skrillex, And Utada Hikaru Are Behind The Kingdom Hearts 3 Opening Theme Song

Here’s something cool and unexpected: Skrillex is teaming up with singer-songwriter Utada Hikaru to write the opening theme music for Kingdom Hearts III. And the song is produced by the person who helped Justin Bieber write “What Do You Mean.”

The song is called “Face My Fears,” and it’ll be released on January 18, 2019 alongside the previously announced Kingdom Hearts III song “Don’t Think Twice.”

Publisher Square Enix said in a press release that Skrillex originally planned to simply remix Hikaru’s “Don’t Think Twice” for the opening theme music. But because Skrillex and Hikaru are friends, they decided to write a completely new song instead.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while longer to hear “Face My Fears,” it seems. Some other notes about the song: it was produced by Poo Bear, who also produced Justin Bieber’s smash hit “What Do You Mean.” Skrillex, meanwhile, has won eight Grammy Awards.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release on January 29, 2019 on Xbox One and PS4. For more, check out all of GameSpot’s previous written and video content here.
