Comic-Con 2018: Our Favorite New Trailers, Ranked

It was a heck of a year at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. It may have felt smaller than usual, thanks to the absence of usual heavy hitters like Marvel, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Westworld, but there was still plenty to get excited about at SDCC this year.

Whether you were hunting for rare Funko Pops, trying to find the best cosplay at Comic-Con, or wanted to watch the latest exclusive footage from upcoming shows and movies like Titans, Doctor Who, Iron Fist 2, The Walking Dead, Netflix’s Disenchantment, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Shazam, Wonder Woman 1984, Aquaman, or any other of the massive future hits that showed up to engage directly with fans, there was something for everyone at Comic-Con this year. You could even visit the Taco Bell from Demolition Man, and if you did, it was probably your favorite meal of the entire week.

Some of the trailers that debuted over the weekend were truly incredible. If you want to see them all in one place, we have a breakdown of every Comic-Con trailer all on one page for you. But if you want to know which ones were the best, click through the following slides. Grab A Free PC Game For Steam Right Now

The Humble Store has a nice surprise anyone with a gaming PC can take advantage of between now and July 28. If you head over to the Guns of Icarus Alliance page, you can get a copy of the game on Steam for free. It’s compatible with PC, Mac, and Linux, and you can keep and play it forever. All you need is a Humble account and a computer powerful enough to run it.

Guns of Icarus Alliance is a game of team-based airship battles set in a steampunk world. Much like Sea of Thieves, it has you and your teammates work together, taking on roles of pilot, gunner, and engineer to control the ship and engage in sky battles against enemies.

Alliance is an expanded version of 2012’s Guns of Icarus Online. While Online was a PvP-only game, Alliance adds a number of PvE experiences to the mix. So now players can team up to fight other real-life opponents or run base assaults, convoy raids, and escort missions against AI-controlled enemies.

While you’re at the Humble Store, you can also take a look at the CI Games Humble Bundle that’s currently available. You can spend as little as $1 to receive three older games, or pay more to get additional tiers of games. Paying $15 gets you six games and a couple of expansions, including the entire Sniper: Ghost Warrior series and Lords of the Fallen: Game of the Year Edition.

Also available at the online retailer is the Humble Monthly for August 2018. It costs $12, and right when you subscribe, you can download A Hat in Time, The Escapists 2, and Conan Exiles. More games in the bundle will be revealed and made available to subscribers on August 3, after the subscription window has closed for the month.

Some Of Hearthstone’s Boomsday Project Cards Needed Heavy Testing

Hearthstone‘s next expansion, The Boomsday Project, is packing a lot of new mechanics into its 135 new cards. Like all new expansions, that means it’s going through a lot of play-testing, but one card type in particular needed more attention than most. The powerful spell “projects” were a particularly tricky card type to build and balance.

Projects are spells with symmetrical effects. Instead of just hitting the caster with a positive impact or their opponent with a negative one, it grants both players the same benefit. The idea is to build your deck to make sure you take the best advantage of the project effect, as opposed to your opponent who won’t have optimized their deck around it.

“I like to think of projects as kind of like the science projects that you did in school,” engineer Cat Morgan told GameSpot. “So there’s a team and of course one person always does the work, but you want to get the most benefit from the project, so you want to get that good grade. When people play projects, they really need to think about, ‘Am I going to get more benefit from it right now than my opponent might?'”

So far only two have been revealed. The Druid’s Biology Project, which gives both players two Mana to ramp up to the limit of 10 that much faster; and the Warlock Demonic Project, which turns a random minion into a demon. The latter is expected to be a combo breaker for facing off against decks like Shudderwock Shaman that depend on one or two key minions to pull off.

“Druid doesn’t have a lot of ways to catch up once they’re behind,” said lead designer Mike Donais. “Biology Project certainly is a risky card though. It’s accelerating a class that can maybe take advantage of it the best because they have very expensive cards, like Ultimate Infestation and big minions. But there are gonna be some match-ups where the opponent also has really expensive cards and then they’re gonna be certainly paying the cost here, and they’re gonna be down a card from playing Biology Project.”

Donais continued, “The project cards, probably of all the different mechanics, got some of the most play-testing. We recently hired another play tester, Keaton, or ‘Chakki’ Keaton Gill. He’s helping us out there, and that’s been great.”

Not every class has its own project. Donais said it will be roughly an even split between Projects and another new card type–Omega cards that grant big effects if played once you’ve reached 10 Mana.

The Boomsday Project launches on August 7.

Players in the Netherlands Can Now See Loot Box Contents for Dota 2 Before Purchasing

Valve has changed the way players in the Netherlands interact with loot boxes, possibly in a method to appease complaints by the Netherlands Gaming Authority earlier this year that found Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in violation of its Betting and Gaming Act, according to GamaSutra.

A user on Reddit noticed the new system in Dota 2 and that it shows players exactly what in-game gear is held within their loot box purchase. Dutch players are still unable to use the Steam Marketplace, despite this change.

Xbox One’s Free Games With Gold For August 2018 Revealed

August is almost here, which means Xbox Live Gold members will have a new set of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games to download. We now know what those games will be, thanks to a post on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire. The games going free in August will be Forza Horizon 2 and For Honor on Xbox One and Dead Space 3 and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible, so they’ll also be playable on Xbox One.

On the Xbox One side of things, you’ll be able to download Forza Horizon 2 between August 1-31. It’s an open-world racing game from 2014 that mixes realistic driving mechanics with some of the more arcade-style ideas of series like Burnout. For Honor is a melee combat game that pits characters from three factions against each other: Samurai, Knights, and Vikings. A fourth faction will be added in a free update this fall, along with a robust new Breach mode. For Honor will be free August 16-September 15.

The entire game, which focuses on alien dismemberment, is playable in online co-op mode. It will be free August 1-15. The final free Xbox 360 game in August is Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, a co-op game that has you save the Wasteland using a magic paintbrush. It’s free August 16-31.

Ni No Kuni 2 Season Pass DLC Details Announced

Bandai Namco has shared new details on its DLC plans for Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom. The publisher will release three packs of additional content for the RPG over the next few months, the first of which is scheduled to arrive in August.

The Adventure Pack DLC launches on August 9 and will be available for free for everyone who owns the game. It adds an assortment of new challenges aimed at “experienced players.” Along with new floors for the Faraway Forest Cave, the DLC introduces two new bosses to battle–Blackhart and Zeta–and additional quests that will be unlocked after completing the main story. Players will also be able to get new costumes and other rewards.

The remaining two DLC packs will be reserved for those who purchased Ni No Kuni 2’s $20 season pass. The first is slated to arrive this winter and will introduce an “enigmatic” new dungeon that features progressively more challenging enemies as players delve deeper into it. The second expansion is expected to release in early 2019 and will add new story content. Additional details on these DLC packs will be shared later.

The most recent update for Ni No Kuni 2 arrived back in June. Along with an assortment of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, it introduced two new difficulty options, Hard and Extreme, both of which feature a higher quality equipment and item drops than the standard Normal mode.

Ni No Kuni 2 is available for PS4 and PC. GameSpot awarded it an 8/10 in our Ni No Kuni 2 review. Critic Peter Brown wrote, “It’s chock full of excellent battles and surprising moments that make for a far more memorable experience than you initially expect and leaves you impressed by your own accomplishments. If you didn’t play the first game, don’t let this one pass you by too.”

Best Gaming Deals This Week: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, And PC (US Only)

One of the great things about being into video games is that you have so many options when it comes to buying games. With so many retailers selling games–both online and in brick-and-mortar stores–there’s a lot of competition. And one of the best ways for a retailer to get a leg up is by putting on a sale. That’s great for consumers, because you almost never have to pay full price for the titles you want, as long as you’re willing to hold out for a deal. The only hard part is making sure you’re getting the best price possible.

That’s where we come in. We keep tabs on discounts on all the games at all the retailers so you don’t have to. Already this week, we’ve covered gaming sales at GameStop, Best Buy, Steam, the Microsoft Store, the PlayStation Store, and more. In fact, the Xbox One Ultimate Game Sale is still going strong this week, and we’ve even highlighted some of the best games in it for under $10.

That’s a lot of deals. So we’ve combed through the sales to find the best games at the best prices, including Grand Theft Auto V, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and more. So whether you play games on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, or even mobile, you can find a game worth playing at a fantastic price.

And that doesn’t even factor in the wealth of free games that are available for members of the various video game services. If you really want to get the best bang for your buck, you can’t beat subscribing to programs that give out free games each month. PlayStation Plus members, for instance, get six games for free in July. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download four games this month, and Amazon Prime members can grab a number of PC games from Twitch.

The only problem with the freebies is that you can’t pick which games you want. So let’s take a look at the best deals on the best video games we could find this week. We highlight bargains on all major systems, so you’re bound to find something you want to play.

First FIFA 19 Gameplay Video Leaked For PS4

FIFA 19’s release date is fast approaching, but publisher EA is yet to reveal any substantial gameplay footage. However, a video has surfaced on the FIFA subreddit via user WhadaFack that shows the game in action for the first time.

The video shows a Europa League match between Manchester City and Manchester United running on PS4. You can see the game’s new features, such as the active touch system and new commentary team, as well as an updated set of menus and tactical options.

In addition, it seems Kick Off mode has been expanded with a new suite of options. The pre-match menu shows new features such as House Rules which allow you to enforce laws such as “Long Range” or “Headers and Volleys,” while you can also choose to engage in a “Best Of” series or choose to make your match a Champions League or Europa League game. Finally, there’s a prompt to change something dubbed “Advantage Settings.”

With Gamescom just around the corner, more FIFA 19 news is expected soon. We already know it will feature the Champions League license for the first time in a decade after EA poached the official deal from rivals Konami and PES. There’s plenty more coming to FIFA this year–for more, take a look at our feature on the 19 best new FIFA 19 features you might have missed.

FIFA 19 launches for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and Nintendo Switch on September 28. Its closest rival, PES 2019, comes out a month earlier, and it’s also receiving a demo in early August. EA has not yet revealed when it will release a demo of FIFA 19.
