Why the Future of Spider-Man Looks So Amazing

Writer Dan Slott has been at the helm of Mavel Comics’ Amazing Spider-Man series since 2010, and even longer if you count his tenure as one of the series’ rotating writers during the Brand New Day era. That’s a tough act to follow for new series writer Nick Spencer, who is taking over with artist Ryan Ottley. Complicating matters further for Spencer, there’s a lingering stigma surrounding his most recent Marvel project, Secret Empire, better known as the Hydra Cap debacle. But despite the factors working against them, Spencer and artist Ottley have already proven they’re just the team to kick off a new era for Spider-Man.

The recent FCBD: Amazing Spider-Man comic established a new status quo for Peter Parker as he struggles to balance his superhero responsibilities with the need to find a new apartment and roommate. It’s a familiar setup for the character, especially considering how different his life was just a short year ago before the events of Secret Empire brought a swift end to his time as a billionaire industrialist. But however much readers may be accustomed to a down-on-his-luck Peter Parker, it’s a setup that plays directly to Spencer’s strengths as a Spider-Man writer.

Valve Releases Dota Compendium Information Following Penguin Kidnap Meme

Dota 2’s subreddit started a penguin kidnapping meme to coax information about this year’s International Compendium out of Valve.

Each year before Dota 2’s biggest tournament, The International, Valve releases a purchasable pass, known as a Compendium (or Battle Pass), that gives players access to a wide range of bonus cosmetics, items, and features related to that year’s event. Valve has teased this year’s Compendium, but Dota 2 fans, fed up with the long wait for information, have taken drastic measures on the game’s subreddit.

Tarantino’s Charles Manson Movie Casts Kurt Russell, Tim Roth and More

The cast for Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, continues to grow.

Deadline reports Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen are in talks to play small roles in the movie. The trio starred in Tarantino’s last film, 2015’s The Hateful Eight. It’s not currently known who they’ll play in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Burt Reynolds is also in negotiations to portray George Spahn, an 80-year old nearly blind man whose LA ranch was used as the location for Westerns. Spahn’s ranch was also home to Charles Manson and his followers in the months leading up to the murder of Sharon Tate and six others.

The Tick Gets a Costume Upgrade in Season 2 First Look

After facing off with The Terror in Season 1, The Tick (Peter Serafinowicz) and Arthur (Griffin Newman) are bound for new adventures and (hopefully) new spoons in Season 2 – and the Wild Blue Yonder is getting a costume upgrade to go along with his shiny new season.

IGN has an exclusive first look at The Tick and Arthur from Season 2, which has just started filming in New York. The streamlined look seems to combine the shape and color of the original live-action series’ costume with the textured version that was initially tested in Amazon’s pilot, creating a less bulky iteration that should allow the Blue Avenger to dispense justice and offer swift kicks to the crotch of villainy for many episodes to come.

Jurassic World 3 Won’t Have Hybrid Dinosaurs

Jurassic World 3 is doing away with hybrid dinosaurs.

Speaking to Total Film (via Bloody-Disgusting), director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed the third movie will go back to basics with dinosaurs.

“I’m looking forward to, in the third film, getting a little back into the Paleontological, wild animal, true dinosaur nature of all of it,” Trevorrow said. The director then added Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Indoraptor will be the last hybrid monster to feature in the franchise.

The first Jurassic World also includes the hybrid Indominus Rex as the main villain. Trevorrow previously described Jurassic World 3 as a “science thriller” that’ll be more similar to the original Jurassic Park, so the lack of hybrid dinosaurs makes sense.

Far Cry 5 Is On Sale For $40 In The US–Best Deal Yet

It hasn’t even been on the market for two whole months yet, but you can already get the open-world shooter Far Cry 5 for $40 on PS4 or Xbox One. That’s 33% off its normal price, and it’s the best deal we’ve seen on the game so far. Here’s how to get the discounted rate.

First, head over to Newegg and add the game to your cart–you can get the PS4 version here or the Xbox One version here. Now just check out like you normally would, but add promo code EMCPUPX79 before finalizing your purchase. That knocks $20 off the normal price.

If you’d rather go for the Steelbook Gold edition, which comes with the season pass as well as some other digital goodies, it’s available for $80 (down from $100) here on PS4 and here on Xbox One. For this edition, though, you have to use promo code EMCPUMX82.

And while the PC version of Far Cry 5 isn’t on sale at the moment, PC gamers can get all previous Far Cry games for 60% off on Steam right now. It’s unlikely you’ll have to wait long for Far Cry 5 on PC to go on sale somewhere; we’ll keep you posted.

As for the game itself, GameSpot gave it 9/10 in our Far Cry 5 review, saying, “Despite some brief irritations and missed opportunities with its narrative, spending time in the world of Hope County remains absolutely delightful. Far Cry 5 boasts a wonderfully harmonious flow to its adventure, with its smart changes to exploration, discovery, and progression distinctly bolstering the enjoyment of creatively engaging and experimenting with its spectacular open world.”

Some links to supporting retailers are automatically made into affiliate links, and GameSpot may receive a small share of those sales.

Fortnite’s Thanos Mode, Infinity Gauntlet, Is Live

Fortnite‘s v4.1 update has arrived, and along with an assortment of bug fixes, it marks the start of a new limited-time mode in Battle Royale. The Avengers-themed Infinity Gauntlet Mashup event is now underway on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile, giving players a chance to play as the Mad Titan Thanos.

Infinity Gauntlet Mashup is a solo-only mode that plays much like a typical game of Battle Royale. 100 players are dropped onto the island and must vie to be the last one standing. However, early on in the match, a meteor will crash within the storm safe zone and leave behind the Infinity Gauntlet, and the first player to find and equip it will transform into Thanos. Here’s the best way to get your hands on the Infinity Gauntlet.

As Thanos, players will no longer be able to build or use weapons, but they’ll receive some significant powers from the Infinity Gauntlet that can completely devastate opponents, including the ability to leap high into the air, fire a powerful energy blast, and deliver an earth-shaking punch that can destroy structures. Thanos is also immune to fall damage and has both health and shields; the latter will regenerate each time Thanos eliminates another player. You can see all of Thanos’s special abilities below:

  • Ability 1 — A mighty punch that knocks enemies back and destroys structures.
  • Ability 2 — Thanos flies towards the ground, hitting an area for knockback and damage.
  • Ability 3 — Harness the energy of the Power stone to fire a blast that deals damage over time.
  • Ability 4 — A super-jump that can vault Thanos over all but the largest obstructions.

Thanos’s location is displayed on the compass at all times, and to counteract his power, only Rare, Epic and Legendary weapons will spawn during an Infinity Gauntlet Mashup match. The drop rates for the Chug Jug, Port-A-Fort, Boogie Bomb, Slurp Juice, Bush, and Remote Explosives have also been increased. If players manage to topple Thanos, the Infinity Gauntlet will drop, giving other players a chance to pick it up.

“This collaboration started as a simple phone conversation between Epic and Marvel over a mutual appreciation for Fortnite and Avengers,” Epic said. “We worked closely over the following weeks to bring these two worlds together and landed on the Limited Time Mashup, Infinity Gauntlet. This is a collaborative experiment between friends from start to finish.”

The maximum match time in the Infinity Gauntlet Mashup mode is about 15 minutes. Additionally, each match starts with the storm circle already closing in on the map, and the storm inflicts more damage than it normally does. You can find more details about the Infinity Gauntlet Mashup mode in the full patch notes for update 4.1. Epic hasn’t announced how long the crossover event will remain in rotation, but previous limited-time modes have typically run for about a week.

In addition to the Infinity Gauntlet Mashup mode, update 4.1 introduces a new set of weekly challenges for Battle Pass owners. Seven new objectives are now available to complete, ranging from dancing in front of film cameras to searching chests in Greasy Grove. For more, be sure to check out our guide on how to complete the Week 2 challenges.

Atomic Blonde 2 Is Apparently in Development

Atomic Blonde star Charlize Theron has confirmed that a sequel is in the works.

“We are definitely developing an Atomic Blonde 2,” she said on Watch What Happens Live. Theron was asked whether she would consider the 007 role after Chris Hemsworth commented that the actress “should be the next Bond.”

After starring together in Snow White and the Huntsman, Hemsworth told W Magazine that Theron could “beat the sh*t out” of him and “most villains out there,” saying she “embodies every ounce of strength and nobility and dignity and integrity that
