MoviePass Reportedly Charging Bank Accounts Despite Closing Shop

After shutting down on September 14, the troubled movie subscription service MoviePass has allegedly risen from the grave to charge former subscribers unexpectedly.

The New York Post compiled various reports of users getting charged despite the MoviePass app canceling operation. A few users, subscribers up to the very day the service ended, reported charges from MoviePass on their cards. Some saw the $10 membership fee, while others experienced this plus additional charges.

CEO Mitch Lowe told the Post that reports of subscribers getting charged following Movie Pass’s shuttering were false and misread. “One single subscriber, out of the many thousands of MoviePass subscribers, was charged $9.95 on September 15 and has been refunded that amount,” Lowe said. “We are aware that some of our subscribers have mistaken refunds appearing on their credit card statements for charges.”

Still, some users continue to report MoviePass charges appearing on their bank accounts. Many have taken to Twitter to voice frustration with an inoperable service that’s still reportedly siphoning their money.

This all follows MoviePass’s harrowing journey prior to closing up shop in September. A July 2018 report disclosed how the bosses changed the passwords of its heaviest users in order to alleviate company turmoil. The company also secretly signed some users back up for the service regardless of cancellation earlier this year.

Fortnite’s Mythic Goldfish Item Exists, And It Can Kill Players In One Hit

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Fortnite‘s big Chapter 2 update arrived last week, revamping the popular battle royale shooter with a new map, new features, and numerous other changes. One of the most notable additions is fishing, which lets you reel in restoratives and weapons from lakes and other bodies of water around the island. It turns out, you can even fish up a one-hit kill item, but the odds of finding it are incredibly low.

On the Fortnite subreddit, user BlakeBenbow posted the first footage of the Mythic Goldfish–an exceedingly rare throwable item that looks like a golden fishing trophy. When thrown, the Mythic Goldfish is capable of dealing 200 damage, enough to take out another player in a single hit–and sure enough, the video clip shows BlakeBenbow being eliminated by the Mythic Goldfish and even receiving an achievement for it.

Dataminers had previously discovered the existence of the Mythic Goldfish in the game’s files, but many players had assumed it was not yet available in the live game because there had until no footage of it until now. You can watch a clip of the trophy’s devastating power above.

Fishing certainly isn’t the only new mechanic in Fortnite Chapter 2. Epic has also introduced weapon upgrading to the game. Using the materials you collect during a match, you can go to a work bench around the island and upgrade a weapon, improving its rarity and stats. You can see all the other biggest changes in Fortnite Chapter 2 here.

A new season also means there are new challenges to complete. If you need help completing any of this season’s missions, we’ve gathered up all our maps and guides in our full Fortnite Chapter 2 challenges roundup. We’ll continue to update the roundup as the season progresses, so be sure to check back for our latest Fortnite challenge guides.

Original Assassin’s Creed Director Apologizes for Towers

Patrice Désilet, the director of the first two Assassin’s Creed games, has jokingly apologized for introducing the much-mocked tower climbing mechanic to video games.

Talking at EGLX in Toronto, Désilet answered a question that asked if he was happy with being known as the “Assassin’s Creed guy”.

“A little bit! If you’re going to spend years on something I hope that happens,” he answered, reports Destructoid. “Breath of the Wild, wow! That was a game where you could do anything, once you finished the first half hour or so. Now, you’re going to just climb towers and unfog the rest of the map. Sorry – it’s my fault!”

Acer Nitro XF252Q Gaming Monitor Review

In the world of gaming monitors, few brands are better known than Acer. Across its catalog, Acer displays serve every niche; from hardcore esports athletes who demand the bleeding edge of monitor technology to the budget gamer who wants performance without breaking the bank.

For years, if you were part of the latter group, you were forced to sacrifice core features like refresh rate or response time, but no more. With the Nitro XF252Q (See it on Amazon), Acer aims to change that, delivering one of the first HDR-enabled 240Hz panels ever. Up until now the market has been full of very similar 25-inch Full HD displays designed for competitive gaming and Esports with sub-1ms response times being the only notable new feature—which this monitor can also handle.
