Underwater Review
Kristen Stewart has long ago shed the role that made her: the quiet, awkward Bella Thorne in the Twilight franchise. 2019 saw Stewart take on the very fun (but commercial failure) Charlie’s Angels and this year she continues her journey to fully-fledged action star with the uneven but still impressive deep-sea thriller Underwater.
Directed by William Eubank from a script by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad, Underwater follows the crew of a subterranean laboratory located seven miles beneath sea level as they fight for survival in the face of a terrifying threat. So far, so Alien, and honestly Underwater is at its best when it’s wearing its influences on its sleeve. But a lack of convictions — and belief in the audience — often makes the film feel weaker than the excellent and ambitious sci-fi that’s come before.

Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 Expected in 2021, Will Be ‘Much More Linear’
The creators of Netflix’s The Witcher series are aiming to get Season 2 out in 2021 and confirm that it will be more linear than the first season.
This comes from showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich who responded to questions from The Witcher fans in a Reddit AMA session on January 7, 2020. “We don’t yet have a target launch date for S2, past 2021,” she said in one response. “We don’t want to rush the product. That doesn’t benefit anyone.”
One of the recurring topics brought up in the AMA was about the non-linear structure of the first season and whether that would be replicated in Season 2. “The story will be much more linear, now that the three characters’ stories have started to intersect,” Hissrich confirmed.
LG’s Rollable TV Is Coming In 2020, But Will Carry A $60,000 Price Tag
LG’s rollable 65-inch OLED TV, which first debuted at CES 2019, is once again on display at CES 2020. The screen, which can be rolled up into its own base when it’s not being used, is pretty incredible–and CNET has learned when it’s coming and how much it will cost. It’s called the OLED TV R.
The rollable television, which was also shown as a drop-down model during CES 2020 (which is a concept design and might not actually release), will apparently cost $60,000 when it ships this year between April and September. LG representatives at CES 2020 said that pricing “isn’t finalized,” but CNET received this figure from JS Lee, head of global marketing for LG home entertainment.
The television, which has been tested for up to 50,000 rolls, can be partially unfurled and display in “line mode” too, as seen below. The TV can also play music with the screen fully covered, and will sync with a phone via Bluetooth.
The television works by fixing the OLED screen to thin horizontal bars that are risen by a pair of arms at the back, allowing the screen to appear solid when it’s fully unfurled. It is covered by a standard TV warranty, but according to CNET, the display unit did not show any signs of wear or stress.
You’ll be able to pick up the LG Signature OLED TV R later this year, but only if you can afford such an expensive, fancy television.
Elsewhere at CES 2020, Sony unveiled the logo for the PlayStation 5 for the first time. By the end of 2020, you’ll be able to play PlayStation 5 on the OLED TV R.
Devil May Cry 3 On Switch Will Feature “A Little Something Extra”, Capcom Teases
Devil May Cry 3 is releasing for Switch on February 20 as a digital release. It is based on the HD upgraded version of the Special Edition originally released for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. It’s the third Devil May Cry game to release on Switch, and it’s also the most beloved of the original trilogy–and because of this, Capcom has promised that it’ll feature “a little something extra.”
In a video posted on Twitter, Capcom producer Matt Walker says that the team is “feeling a little motivated” by the fact that the game is so beloved, and as such they’re going to add “a little something extra” to this version of the game. More information will be unveiled through the Devil May Cry Twitter account on January 16, January 30, and February 13. This suggests that there will be at least three changes made to this version.
It’s unclear what this could mean, as the Switch ports of Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2 were pretty straightforward. As DMC3 introduces Vergil as a playable character, and the character returned in 2019’s Devil May Cry 5, it’s possible that the additions will relate to him.
Capcom is currently on a hot streak, so hopefully the Switch port of Devil May Cry 3 will deliver a good version of the PlayStation 2 classic.

Thor Actor Chris Hemsworth Donates $1 Million To Australian Bushfire Relief Efforts
Thor actor Chris Hemsworth has announced he will donate $1 million to help support the ongoing firefighting efforts in Australia as the country faces devastating bushfires.
In an Instagram post from his home in Australia, Hemsworth announced his plan to donate the money and called on his fans to chip in whatever they can afford.
“Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia. My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too,” he said. “Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated. Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations. It really does make a difference, so dig deep!”
The ongoing fires in Australia have thus far burned more than 15 million acres, which is twice the size of Belgium. At least 25 people have died and around homes have been lost. Estimates state that around 500 million animals have died.
Go to GameSpot sister site CNET to see an extensive and informative breakdown of the national crisis and find out what you can do to help.
Hemsworth is not the only celebrity to pledge money toward helping support the fire crisis in Australia. Elton John announced during his Tuesday evening concert in Sydney that he would also donate $1 million, while Shawn Mendes, Ellen DeGeneres, Pink, and Kylie Minogue have also given money.
Russell Crowe, who is a New Zealand citizen living in Australia, won a Golden Globe this weekend but he did not appear at the event because he was protecting his family from the fires. His acceptance speech was read by Jennifer Aniston, and in it, he called on the world to “act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy, and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is.”
So far this season 1,687 homes have destroyed & more than 21,000 buildings saved. Since 1 Jan, 771 homes lost. This figure is likely to increase. It will take time for teams to work through these areas due to limited access on isolated roads and villages. #nswrfs #nswfires pic.twitter.com/ieLh9UxtFT

IGN Readers Weigh in on the Best and Worst Star Wars Movies
During the turn of the new year, we asked IGN readers what your favorite and least-favorite Star Wars movies are across the board. As with any poll about films and sagas, there were some surprises. Read the breakdown below on which Star Wars films won in each category.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate’s 6.1.1 Patch Introduces One Tiny Change
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has received a minor new update today, and it’s natural to wonder when you see the game update what has just been added. Update 6.1.1 for the hit Switch fighter is such a small change, though, that most players will not notice it. Don’t worry about tier changes or balance shifts that will affect how you play–this update is just for amiibo support.
Update 6.1.1 implements support for the Dark Samus and Richter amiibo, both of which release on January 17. The update will allow you to use both amiibo in-game, leveling them up and fighting against them as you would with any other amiibo fighter.
Releasing January 17, 2020
- Dark Samus amiibo
- Richter amiibo
The majority of Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighters have now received amiibo, except for the characters available in the Season Pass–Joker, Hero, Banjo-Kazooie, Terry, and an unannounced fifth fighter, and whoever else Nintendo will release in the future.
This update is necessary to play the game online. Local wireless play is not compatible with earlier versions, and replay compatibility is available for replays saved on ver. 6.1.0, but not 6.0.0 or earlier.
