The Last Of Us Part 2 Beginner’s Tips

Gameplay-wise, The Last of Us Part 2 is similar to its predecessor, albeit with a more open-ended structure in combat encounters and new enemy types. So if you’ve played the first The Last of Us, you shouldn’t have too much trouble with this sequel. Regardless, if you’re looking for a few pointers prior to setting out in The Last of Us Part 2, here are a few tips and tricks to help you survive.

Always Be Lootin’ So You Can Always Be Craftin’

Looting is a big part of the gameplay loop in The Last of Us and that is also true for its sequel. In between each encounter you should be scanning the environment–look for drawers, cupboards, and other compartments as you clear abandoned buildings and pass by rusted cars. As you loot, you’ll find the necessary supplies for crafting useful items like explosives and health bandages as well as ammo like shotgun shells and arrows.

No Caption Provided

The amount of supplies you can find will directly correlate to the difficulty you choose. The easier the difficulty, the greater the amount of crafting materials and ammo you’ll find. It’s worth mentioning that finding supplies doesn’t grant you “one” of the supply, but fills up your meter until you have three in total. However, if you’re unhappy about how much or how little loot you’re finding, you can also adjust the amount of items you can find without impacting the combat difficulty.

Adjust Approachability And Accessibility Settings

Which is a nice segue into our next tip–don’t be afraid to change up your settings to get your ideal experience. The Last of Us Part 2 has a ton of settings options for you to tweak and manipulate to your heart’s content. You can change the enemy AI’s level of awareness, the amount of resources you can find, the damage you take in combat, and the usefulness of allies in order to adjust how approachable the game is. Likewise, you can also adjust aspects of the game like subtitle size to tweak how accessible the game is.

If you’d like to adjust all the settings right from the start, select the Custom Difficulty option. However, we recommend picking one of the standard difficulty options first, and then adjusting individual approachability and accessibility options as desired. You can change the difficulty settings in The Last of Us Part 2 at any point, so you won’t be penalized for adjusting on the fly.

Use The In-Game Settings To Find Collectibles

And that second tip segues into our third one. So as you might know, Naughty Dog loves shoving a ton of collectibles into its games and that’s no different in The Last of Us Part 2. Collectibles come in many forms, including artifacts, trading cards, and journal entries.

No Caption Provided

Most of these collectibles are only found in non-combat areas but there are a few exceptions–the most notable one is hidden under a bed in the Hillcrest section, so keep your eyes peeled. So if you are a completionist, we recommend turning on high contrast mode and enhanced listen mode in the accessibility settings. The former highlights interactable objects in your environment when you swipe the touchpad and enhanced listen mode causes a ping sound to ring out when you’re close to collectibles. Both make it a lot easier to find difficult-to-find items.

Safe To Say That You Should Open Safes

As you explore the world you’ll also come across locked combination safes. You want to take the time to find the combinations for unlocking these safes–they typically contain the training manuals that unlock new skill trees as well as brand-new weapons. Even if a safe doesn’t contain either one of these, they will always offer a nice bundle of extra ammo and supplies.

Several combinations can just be found on letters left behind, but there are a few trickier ones that require you to explore and carefully survey nearby rooms in order to find environmental clues. The combination will almost always be close to the safe itself. If you encounter a point in the environment where you have to hold down the triangle button in order to proceed, then turn back–these button prompts typically mark points of no return where you leave one area for another. The clues for unlocking a safe will always be in the same area as the safe.

Break Brittle Bones With Bricks And Bottles

Now that we have all of the exploration-focused tips out of the way, let’s talk about combat. In The Last of Us Part 2, combat is fast, tense, and difficult if you aren’t prepared. Sometimes it’s still all of those things even when you are prepared. If you find yourself low on ammo or supplies, look for bricks or bottles in the environment. Not only can you use them to distract enemies, but a well thrown bottle or brick can also stun an enemy, serving them up for an easy one-hit melee kill. This can be clutch on harder difficulties when supplies and ammo are scarce.

Deal With Dogs As Quickly As You Can

The Last of Us Part 2 introduces several new enemy types–one of which you’ll encounter fairly early on: dogs. If a dog intersects with your scent, it will follow it until it finds you or loses the trail. You can see your scent trail by going into listening mode, which will help you know what path the dog and its owner is going to take to track you down.

No Caption Provided

As much as it pains us to say, it is in your best interest to dispatch these good boys and girls as quickly as possible. Show them no mercy. One of the simplest ways to take care of a dog on your trail is by placing a trip mine, as the dog will just eventually follow your scent into the explosive and be killed. For a non-lethal approach, throw a brick or bottle and the sound will temporarily distract the canine.

However, be warned: whether you kill or distract, the sound created when interacting with dogs will likely cause nearby enemies to drop their scripted patrol patterns in order to investigate the disturbance. The only way to silently get away and keep all enemies on script is to just put as much distance as you can between you and the dog tracking you so that it just eventually loses your scent.

Running Is A Legitimate Strategy

Just like in the original game, you can run from pretty much every encounter in The Last of Part 2. If you’re spotted while you are trying to stealth your way through an area, you can run out of enemies’ line of sight and reposition yourself, or you can try to escape to the next area without killing anyone if you’re feeling particularly merciful. If you play on Survivor, running away should always be considered as a viable option, as circumnavigating encounters will conserve your precious ammo and resources for the fights that you can’t avoid.

The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 1: Jackson – The Overlook

This section of our The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 1: Jackson – The Overlook includes tips for defeating the first infected enemies in the game. Plus locations for all collectibles which includes just 1 Artifact.

Chapter 1: Jackson – The Overlook

  • On Your Own
  • How to Fight
  • Artifact – Note from a Father
  • Kill or Avoid the Runners in the Car-Filled Field

Follow the man until a cutscene plays.

On Your Own

Head forward and turn right, jumping over the log. Continue straight ahead, jumping onto the snowy ledge to reach higher ground. Continue forward (on your left is just a giant cliff), climbing up the subsequent snowy ledges. Bear right so you can continue up the slope. At the top you’ll be prompted to sprint jump (L1 + X) onto the next area. Once there, continue down the mountain (keeping somewhat left). Crawl underneath the branch (hold circle to get into the prone position). Keep making your way down. You’ll reach a more narrow area between the rocks and see something alarming. Follow the trail of bodies leading you to another narrow passageway. Move the left joystick up and press X to squeeze through. Something will be blocking your path and you’ll be prompted to press and hold triangle to remove it.

How to Fight

Take down your first enemy by following the on-screen prompts. Dodge with just a tap of the L1 button. You should see Amy visibly jump/maneuver out of the way; that’s how you know you’ve done it right. Be sure to run if your back is against the rock to get more space to bob and weave. Draw/aim your gun with L2, and shoot with R2, melee attack with square.

Continue forward and be ready for a few more enemies to appear. You’ll likely be prompted to heal after the encounters. Do it. Then jump on top of the trash cans and head into the garage. Move forward, through the laundry room and into the next area. Be sure to grab the ammo sitting on the counter and reload your gun. Then move to the left of the entire countertop, near the oven and fridge, so you can crawl under the garbage and debris. Hold Circle to get into position.

Crawl forward and you’ll see an enemy up ahead. You can shoot from the prone position so consider aiming and getting a more relaxed headshot in or move closer and your foe will crawl towards you, face first for a debatably easier (albeit moving) target.

Crawl out of the building and continue ahead.

Artifact – Note from a Father

Now that you’re out of that ruined home, immediately turn the corner around the house to find an open window leading into a bedroom with a health pack in a suitcase. Cross into the hall and then look for a small home office with an open window, and the note will be on the table by the window.

Get ready for more indoor drama and walk to the next building (towards the porch with the broken railing). Squeeze through the small opening. A quick tutorial on stealth kills will appear. Listen (R1) to get a sense of the target’s position. Remain crouched and approach. When you’re in range, grab the enemy (triangle), and execute the stealth kill. Be sure to loot the body.  Supplies: Go the bedroom next door (on the right of the room you entered originally). There’s ammo on the nightstand by the bed.

Crouch as you head down the stairs because another 2 runners waiting for you in the living room (one close, and the other a bit further is the distance).Plus, another wandering between the kitchen and the garage ahead. Stealth kills are best here to conserve ammo.

Tip: take down the nearby one when he’s closest to the stairs. Once he’s dead, back up and take cover behind one of the two sofas, then use the wall with the deer head/shoe rack as cover while you track the movement of the one walking between the garage and kitchen area. Strike when the time is right. Supplies: Pick up the ammo under the deer head, next to the boots. Grab the health kits on the kitchen counter by the dishes/sink. Pick up the ammo on the tarp in front of the car. Once you leave the garage and are out in the open air, walk forward and to the closed wooden door on your left. Approach it and jump over it.

Kill or Avoid the Runners in the Car-Filled Field

The next area is full of enemies (runners). Take cover and make sure your gun has been reloaded. Again, stealth is always better. Tips: Use the cars to your advantage, circling around and striking at the best moment. Head right of the first truck to take out the next few runners. As you get further in, notice the truck on the right creates a perfect crawl space for you to avoid this last encounter completely.

Head forward and squeeze through the tight spot ahead (Up on the L stick and X). Abby will make an observation and the next section: Chapter 1 Jackson – Patrol, will begin.

The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 2: Seattle Day 1 – Capitol Hill

This the Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 2: Seattle Day 1 – Capitol Hill explains how to get through the town and make it towards the tower ahead. It includes all collectible locations including 7 Artifacts, 6 Trading Cards, 2 Workbenches, and 1 Safe.

Capitol Hill Walkthrough

Head towards the houses/apartments.

Optional: Motel Rooms and Apartments (Collectibles)

You’ll find an apartment complex and a motel in the area. Explore the buildings for collectibles and loot or continue on the main path. Below are the notable items you can find. You can get a better understanding of the area by checking the Map Legend hanging in the corridor by the swimming pool, pictured below. Use this and the visible building numbers to help you navigate. Near the swimming pool (across from the motel) you’ll see a streak of blood on the ground leading into an apartment. Ignore survival instincts and follow it (watch out for the infected lurking inside).

Artifact – Chevy’s Apology

Go upstairs and check the bedroom. On the bed, you’ll find a note. Keep in mind there are two bedrooms upstairs.

Short Gun Holster Location

In the same room, you’ll find a short gun holster on the desk. Note: this spawn may be different for you.

Trading Card – Kinnard, E.SQ

Enter Apartment #3 (in the area near the pool). On the left of the sofa is a side table with a trading card inside – Kinnard, E.SQ

Artifact – Raul’s Olive Branch

Go to the motel parking lot. Head forward and to the right. You can get to the open apartment by dragging the dumpster off the curb (right) and then positioning it below the window. Inside the apartment, you can find useful items (including supplements in the bathroom and scrap in the laundry room) and an artifact in the drawer to the left of the fridge called Raul’s Olive Branch.

Trap Mine Recipe Location

Go to the bedroom and find a Trap Mine to unlock the Trap Mine Recipe.

Note: The motel rooms and laundry rooms don’t have any collectibles but loot them for supplies.

Optional Section Over

When you’re ready to continue to the next section move the dumpster underneath the blue tarp to hop the fence.

Fighting WLF Members Throughout the Town

Head to the left but stay within cover. There are WLFs everywhere.

Tips:

  • Use proximity mines! One way is to set one up in dry cleaners and the other in one of the entry points of Nancy’s shop. After the first one goes off you can hide behind the checkout counter and shoot from afar or bide your time and wait for the enemies to run closer. Then just pick them off one at a time.

  • Once they’re cleared out be sure to loot the area for materials then press forward. You’ll encounter more WLF soldiers.

Workbench Location

You can find a workbench in the Gas Station off to the far left. Loot the area for other supplies as well. The next set of collectibles (including a training manual) is in the bookstore! Watch out for clicker and runner behind the door.

Trading Card – Doctor Stem

In the bookstore, open the door leading into a small hallway (and the bathrooms). Turn left and approach the record player between two comfy chairs.

Training Manual Stealth

In the other room in the bookstore (the coffee house section), check the table with the type writer on it for another training manual to unlock a new skill line.

Artifact – Rebecca’s Tip Off

In the same room as the training manual, approach the sink by the coffee machines. There, you’ll find another artifact in the form of a note.

Trading Card – Sergeant Frost

Visit the grocery store. You can begin your attack from above, using Molotov cocktails and far off shots to take out most of the infected. Once inside, check the lockers in the back. There, you’ll find a trading card. Be sure to loot the store for supplies including some supplements by the checkout registers.

Push forward and more WLF members will appear (be sure to loot the bank for supplies). Watch out for enemies in nearby buildings, shooting from the second floor. Once all enemies are cleared head to the Bagel Bros and/or Orchards juice shop. Head to the second floor and move forward and head to the next area by going through the huge hole in the wall. Drop down and go to your right to get over the processing booth.

Tripwire Protected Areas

Next up a clicker will come for you but the tripwire will take care of that. Proceed with caution since this whole area is booby-trapped. But before moving forward, be sure to get the next collectible.

Trading Card – Candelabra

Check the convenience store to the left. In the back, under the society of champions poster (advertising the trading cards), you’ll find your next card.

Return to the main path. Let the runners spot you because at least one of them will set off the tripwire ahead.

Artifact – Tower Doodles

Move forward and take the opening on the right, labeled as restricted access (military personnel only). Take the ladder to check out the lookout post for a drawing made by a bored WLF member. Be sure to pick up scraps and other items while you’re up there.

Continue down the slope. Cross the river and you’ll see a horse destroyed by the infected and an item of intrigue. Keep moving into the forest. Ahead, you’ll find an area covered with tripwire. Be sure to toss items at or shoot the canisters to set them off safely so you can pass through. Walk slowly and keep an eye out. Dina will warn you when you’re near one so stop moving the second you hear her voice, just to be safe. Go to the left of the barricaded gate (blocked by the mattress) to check out the thrift store for some loot, collectibles, and a safe.

Trading Card – Blizzarebra

Enter the thrift store and walk forward a bit. On your left you’ll see bookshelves. On the children’s bookshelf (back left by the white lamp), you’ll find another trading card.

Artifact – Thrift Store Reminder

While still in the thrift store, go through the door ahead. You’ll be in a room of vending machines. Turn to the right and you’ll see an artifact pinned to the corkboard. It gives you a partial code for the safe.

Safe – Thrift Store

The safe is located in the backroom of the thrift store. Part of the code is written in the Artifact – Thrift Store Reminder collectible. To get the entire code read the graffiti on the left of the bathroom sink (room closest to the vending machine). Safe Combination 55-01-33

Artifact – Frank’s Refusal

Enter the decrepit building (gym). There are several entry points. Take the hallway to the left of the trophy case, by the boxing area, and you’ll see a corkboard with an artifact on it. (Fran’s Refusal).

Workbench Location – Gym

Continue and you’ll reach a room with a workbench. To continue on the main path, exit (so that you’re near the Thrift Store again), and approach the truck with the Feel Her Love mural on it. Approach it to interact with and open it up for some crafting materials and a way to continue forward.

Once you reach the end of the truck exit right and continue ahead (note: there’s a very hard to see tripwire blocking the path forward).

Towards the TV Station

There’s a lot of tripwire ahead but also a lot of bottles and bricks on the ground to get you through it. Use those and save your ammo as best you can. When you get to the end you’ll need to climb up but there’s tripwire on the staircase so climb on the right and take out the wire from a safe distance. The door ahead is locked so jump over the concrete on the right and take the next ledge to climb over the bent part of the fence.

This brings you to the next section: Seattle Day 1 – Channel 13.

The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 1: Jackson – The Chalet

This portion of  The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 1: Jackson – The Chalet is mostly storytelling. There are 0 collectibles or points of interest.

The Chalet Walkthrough

After the opening cinematic run towards the cabin and head through the hole in the wooden fence. There’s some ammo in the bedroom you enter into. Continue ahead and walk down the stairs to the living room (sleeping bags on the floor). Finally, go into the kitchen and take the open door leading into the basement.

A cinematic will play leading into the next section: Chapter 1 Jackson – Packing Up.

The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 2: Seattle Day 1 – Channel 13

This The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 2: Seattle Day 1 – Channel 13 has tips for how to infiltrate the station and, eventually, escape. This includes collectible locations: 1 Artifact and 1 Trading Card.

Channel 13 Walkthrough

Now that the TV station is within your sight, climb up the concrete levels. Stand so that your back is facing the first dead body. In front of you, straight ahead, you’ll see a rope you can use to climb into the window. Pick up the bottle (crafting material) by the coffee station and swap our your melee weapon (loot dead body) if needed. Continue forward, crouching to get under the pipe into the next hallway. Open the closet for lots of crafting materials and some supplements. Exit that closet. To the left of the utility closet door, you’ll see an opening with a cable dangling from it. Climb through that opening.

Loot scraps, ammo, and explosives in the TV control center (tech area). Go to the second floor, loot the floor for supplies, and head for the opening leading outside. The door is locked so take the small ledge on the left.

Trading Card – Kimimela

Continue straight past the body that was holding the shotgun and pick up the trading card on the desk ahead. Once you’ve picked it up, continue through the doors and up the stairs.

Artifact – Dad’s Pep Talk

When you get to the top of the stairs, check out the office on the far left. It has an artifact on the long sofa called Dad’s Pep Talk

When you’re ready, open the ajar door ahead – where sounds are coming from inside. A cutscene will play. Afterward, head out from the large opening. Drop down and head back.

Escape the Channel 13 Tower

WLF members are here now. For the most part, it’s just about getting out of the building. Don’t worry about killing every member. Consider clearing the first area, main TV station, once that’s taken care of start running for the exit.

Once you’re out in the open keep sprinting ahead until you’re protected in this underground area, with a vending machine barricading the door. This brings you to the next section: Seattle Day 1 – The Tunnels.

The Best Worst Wrestling Weddings, Recreating A Scott Steiner Promo, And More | Wrestle Buddies Episode 7

This week on Wrestle Buddies, GameSpot’s professional wrestling podcast, Chris E. Hayner and Mat Elfring welcome TV Guide editor Keisha Hatchett for a wide-ranging episode that covers so many topics and gets pretty dramatic. We also catch up with a certain Attitude Era wrestler in a new segment.

First up, Chris, Mat, and Keisha reminisce about their histories with the world of eFeds. For those that don’t know, eFeds were essentially a mix of roleplaying games and fan fiction, all set in the world of pro wrestling. Of course, being the nerds they are, Chris, Mat, and Keisha all have experience with eFeds and dredging up that past is about as ridiculous as you’d expect.

Next, we take a look at the pro wrestling’s spotty history with weddings. If you’re a fan, you know just how bad a wrestling wedding likely will be and we are revisiting some of the worst–including that time Triple H married an unconscious Stephanie McMahon at a drive-through wedding chapel. This segment also gives the Wrestle Buddies a chance to finally talk about Snitsky, the most notable wrestler with a foot fetish gimmick.

Then, it’s time for Wrestlepiece Theatre. In this new segment, which features reenactments of infamous wrestling moments, we recreate one of the most remarkable promos you’ll ever hear. Do you remember the time Scott Steiner tried to give a math lesson to Samoa Joe in TNA? We sure do.

All that plus we take a look at what noted vampire warrior professional wrestler Gangrel is up to in the first installment of Gangrel watch, as well as answer your questions.

New episodes of Wrestle Buddies are released every Thursday. You can check it out on Spotify, Stitcher, and Apple Podcasts.

Square Enix Games Have Returned To GeForce Now–But Not All Of Them

Select Square Enix games have now made their way back to Nvidia’s cloud gaming service GeForce Now, including entries in the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex series. However, some games that were previously available for the platform have not yet returned, including Final Fantasy XV, Nier: Automata, and the Arkham series.

Square Enix was one of several publishers to pull its games from the service earlier this year when it became apparent that players could access their Steam purchases through Nvidia’s cloud server without the permission of the rights holders. Nvidia has now implemented an opt-in program where publishers like Square Enix must give their explicit permission for their games to stay on the service. The deadline to opt into the program was May 31.

Activision Blizzard and Bethesda were among the largest publishers to pull their games from the service, along with notable indies like The Long Dark. Unlike Google Stadia, which requires players to separately purchase each game on the service, GeForce Now pulls games from the user’s library on other storefronts, primarily Steam. These two services represent diametrically-opposed approaches to the future of cloud gaming, and it’s unclear if one will eventually win out.

HBO’s Watchmen Is Free To Watch This Weekend For Non-Subscribers

HBO’s hit series Watchmen–a spiritual sequel to the critically-acclaimed DC comic of the same name–is coming to a TV near you, even if you don’t subscribe to the network. However, you will only be able to watch it this weekend.

From June 19-21, HBO will offer all nine episodes of the series on HBO.com and free on demand through your cable provider. You will not need an HBO subscription to access these episodes. This is part of the network’s initiative to highlight “Black experiences, voices, and storytellers” to coincide with Juneteenth–the commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

On June 19, HBO and HBO Latino will run a marathon of Watchmen as well, beginning at 1 PM ET/PT, with the final episode airing at 8:45 ET/PT.

Executive producted by Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and starring Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk, The Leftovers), Watchmen takes place in the modern-day universe set up by the comic book. Here, masked vigilantes are considered criminals, and the police hide their identities. The series also revolves around the 1921 Tulsa Massacre, where white residents of the city attacked and murdered black residents of the wealthy Greenwood District–which was called Black Wall Street.

The show primarily follows King’s character, Angela Abar AKA Sister Night, as she uncovers secrets from the world that connect to Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectre, Ozymandias, and even some of the members of the original vigilante group The Minutemen.

Watchmen was GameSpot’s #1 TV show of 2019, as the series told its own stories set within a defined and very protected comic book universe, all while adding so much more to the world. Sadly, there probably won’t be a second season, as Lindelof has stepped away from the show. He gave HBO his blessing to move forward, but that is unlikely to happen as “it would be hard to imagine doing it without Damon involved in some way,” explained HBO’s programming chief, Casey Bloys.
