Fortnite Season 3 Players Are Obsessed With Loot Sharks

Fortnite added some dangerous sea life to its water world-like map when Season 3 dropped this morning. Loot Sharks, deadly little great whites who drop weapons and ammo when killed, are now scattered around the water-covered parts of the new map.

The sharks will attack you if you get too close. They’ll even jump out of the water and onto shore in order to take a bite. Players have already shared wild videos of sharks flying through the air and attacking them while they are inside a nearby building. These fish have range.

If you manage to grab a fishing rod before running into one of these killers you can cast a line towards a shark and ride the waves. The shark will grab the line automatically and you’ll dawn a pair of instant jet skis you use to skate across the water. Some players have been getting some creative eliminations while riding the murder fish.

Sharks launch you in the air by swimming into the new Season 3 whirlpools scattered throughout the flooded half of the map. Rickety Rig or Sweaty Sands are two locations where you’re guaranteed to find both sharks and a whirlpool. Don’t forget to use the whirlpool at the Fortilla to finish one of the Aquaman challenges.

Sharks have some fun quirks on top of their viciousness. Players have found that they’ll glow the same color as the highest tier of loot you feed them. Just slow down and drop it in front of them to see them glow purple or green as you sail through the night behind them.

Riding a shark, unlike other vehicles, makes you completely vulnerable though. If you aren’t killed by the shark itself you’ll probably get taken down by an assault rifle as you cruise around the map.

PS5’s Bugsnax Is A First-Person Adventure With A Mystery At Its Core

Bugsnax certainly stood out during the recent PS5 reveal stream, with Octodad developer Young Horses revealing an island inhabited by creatures that are half snack, half bug. It’s a strange and oddly alluring premise which plays host to a mix of mystery and exploration.

In an interview with USGamer, Young Horses co-founder Philip Tibitoski opened up about just what the studio’s new game really is. At its core, Bugsnax is a first-person adventure where you’ll be observing and documenting over 100 different types of snack-like creatures. You’ll have to figure out how they behave, what areas of the island they occupy, and, most importantly, what happens to you when you eat them.

But Bugsnax isn’t just about documentation. As a journalist invited to the island, you’re also tasked with tracking down your host, Megafig, who has mysteriously disappeared. As teased near the end of the reveal trailer, not everything is as whimsical as it seems on the island, and it’s up to you to uncover its less-savory aspects.

Launching on the PS5, Bugsnax will also make use of the DualSense controller’s new features to allow you to feel each Bugsnak (the official singular term) as you catch them. “Now, it feels like it makes a big difference in the game, whether it’s running through a stream of water or, when trying to catch a Bugsnak, it being in your trap and finding ‘Oh, is it trying to escape?’ You can feel how intense it is and how close it is to escaping,” Tibitoski explained.

Bugsnax isn’t a PS5 exclusive, though, and will launch on PS4 as well as PC (via the Epic Games Store) later this year.

Game Of Thrones Digital Board Game Announced For Steam

Fortunately for those who don’t have much extra space in their home for physical board games or other tabletop-loving friends to play with, many of the best board games tend to make their way to digital platforms, and one great strategy game is making its way to Steam this year. Publisher Asmodee Digital has announced A Game of Thrones: The Board Game – Digital Edition will launch in Q3 2020 on Steam for both PC and Mac. The asymmetrical strategy game is based on the physical board game of the same name and, of course, the fantasy series created by George R. R. Martin. The digital edition is now available to wishlist on Steam.

In the Game of Thrones board game, which is rated among BoardGameGeek‘s top 150 board games of all time, you’ll take charge of one of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, which are vying for control of the Iron Throne through use of diplomacy and warfare. The game also involves resource management, area occupation, hidden action orders, and hero cards featuring characters from the series. In true Game of Thrones fashion, the board game also involves forming alliances and making promises that are never binding and may involve back-stabbing.

Great board game deals today:

Up to six players will be able to play online, or you can play solo with up to five AI opponents (the perks of playing online board games). There will also be digital exclusive challenges based on the War of the Five Kings.

If you’re looking for a new board game to play in the meantime, be sure to check out our 2020 guide to the best board games. If you’re still mostly stuck at home, it might be hard to play some of these games without having friends over, but many of them have digital versions on Steam, including Gloomhaven, Scythe, and Blood Rage.

Show me a dad who wouldn’t want an iPad for Father’s Day. You can’t do it–they simply don’t exist. New Stadia Connect Livestream Coming Next Month

Massive tech giant Google has announced that another Stadia Connect is on the way. This livestream, set to air on July 14 at an undisclosed time, will feature a glimpse at “some of the games coming to Stadia later this year.”

The company did not clarify what it intends to show during the upcoming Stadia Connect livestream. Still, you can stream it on Google’s official Stadia YouTube channel. The last Stadia Connect showcase, which happened in April, revealed a handful of games that became available to Pro members in May. This included SteamWorld Heist, The Turing Test, and Zombie Army 4: Dead War.

Recently, Google started offering a cheaper way to get into the streaming-only platform by slashing the price of its Premier Edition. Instead of $120, the Premier Edition now retails for $100 and will still include the Chromecast Ultra and Stadia Controller for free. However, the free three-month trial for Stadia Pro is no longer part of the package.

What’s New To Disney+ In July? Hamilton And Solo Arrive

There is something really exciting headed to Disney+ in July. The hit Broadway play Hamilton arrives in July. However, that’s not all that’s coming to the streaming service. Another Star Wars movie arrives as well.

The solo Han Solo movie aptly titled Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives on July 10. The film follows the early days of everyone’s favorite smuggler as he joins the Empire, meets Lando Calrissian, and accidentally funds the beginning of the Rebel Alliance.

As previously mentioned, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Hamilton lands on July 3. Originally, this was going to release in theaters in October 2021; however, the filmed play was moved forward more than a year in order to land on Disney+ while many Americans continue to shelter in place. Hamilton is a biography of Alexander Hamilton, a founding father of the United States. The play is set to hip-hop and R&B music, and it debuted in 2015. The Disney+ version features the original cast of the musical.

Below, check out everything coming to Disney+ for July. For more streaming news, check out what’s coming to Hulu that month as well. Horizon Forbidden West Aiming for 2021 Release

Horizon Forbidden West was announced at the PlayStation 5 event last week, and Sony has released a small follow-up dive into the Horizon sequel that reveals a few more tidbits. Namely, that Guerrilla Games is aiming for a 2021 release date.

Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by machine wildlife. Horizon Forbidden West will follow the protagonist Aloy as she ventures westward.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/horizon-forbidden-west-guerrilla-talks”]

Forbidden West director Mathijs de Jonge shared the same trailer that was shown at the PS5 event but offered some director commentary.

De Jonge says that thanks to the PS5’s SSD there will be “virtually no loading screens.” So if you open a map to fast travel, you’ll be able to do so almost instantaneously.

And while Guerrilla Games hasn’t announced a release date, Horizon Forbidden West won’t be a launch title for the PS5, which is set to be released this holiday. Instead, Guerrilla is aiming for a 2021 release for the sequel.

Valorant Devs Announce First Set Of Officially Partnered Esports Events

Riot Games has announced the Valorant Ignition Series, a spotlight program for tournaments based around their competitive first-person-shooter. In a post on the game’s official website members of Riot announced the new series for which it has partnered with over 20 esports organizations.

The Ignition Series will focus on spotlighting tournaments each week in addition to helping discover players and building recognition for Valorant pros and teams. Riot plans to support the series by showcasing them on its channel and by posting the schedule on the series website.

Riot plans to announce more events for the series in the future but plans to have events in North America, Brazil, Latin America, Korea, Japan, South East Asia, Oceania, Europe, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East. Unlike Blizzard’s Overwatch League, the Ignition Series events are not being produced by Riot directly, with the developer taking a supporting role to assist esports organizers in creating their own event.

The first two Ignition Series events take place this weekend with the G2 Invitational taking place on Friday, June 19 and Rage hosting the first official Valorant tournament in Japan on June 20 and 21. Riot said more events will be announced on June 18 and that the series is expected to extend through the fall.

In other Valorant news, Riot said the game’s ranked play will likely release sometime next week. It was removed for launch to let new players learn the basics before hopping into the competitive mode.
