During Sony’s PS5 reveal event, Guerrilla revealed Horizon Zero 2: Dawn Forbidden West, a sequel to its critically-acclaimed action-adventure game. In a twist, organic creatures are alive again, though something is threatening their existence. Aloy ventures into far off lands and explores the ruins of old societies in a quest to save the natural world.

The original Horizon Zero Dawn is set to hit PC this year, and IGN praised the PS4 exclusive when it launched in 2017, saying in our Horizon Zero Dawn review that it “juggles many moving parts with polish and finesse.”
Given Horizon’s strong sales success, many have expected Guerrilla to continue the series, and in 2019, one of the actors involved in the original Horizon mentioned a sequel was in development, while job listings hinted at a possible Horizon sequel. We discussed what a Horizon 2 needs to include in an episode of our PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!
Revealed at the PS5 reveal event, the cinematic trailer offered little in the way of concrete evidence of what the game will be, but we saw an astronaut, a little girl, a shattering sky and they… fought a satellite and landed on the moon?
Suffice it to say, we’ll be looking for more information on this one.

We haven’t heard much about Arkane Studio’s Deathloop since its announcement at E3 2019, but a new trailer during Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event confirms the first-person shooter is headed to next-gen consoles. The new trailer gives a sense of the story, in which you play as an assassin locked in a timeloop so they can be hunted down and murdered over and over again. The game is due in Holiday 2020 and will be a PS5 exclusive on consoles at launch, according to the PlayStation Blog.
Deathloop is about “rival assassins locked in a timeloop,” and the trailer gives a better sense of Deathloop’s gameplay than we’ve had in the past. The game looks a lot like another Arkane franchise, Dishonored–as Colt, you’re trying to stay alive on the island of Black Reef while everyone is out to kill you. To kill them first, you’ll wield a number of weapons, like various firearms and blades, while also utilizing special powers that can lift enemies into the air or toss them. There’s also a Blink-like teleport that looks very similar to that ability in the Dishonored games.
Every time you’re killed, you restart the timeloop, and it sounds like your goal is to take down eight assassination targets before midnight, without being killed, in order to break free. Stealth also looks like a big component of gameplay, allowing you to kill enemies silently with suppressed weapons or with up-close lethal takedowns.
It also appears that you’ll spend Deathloop being chased by Juliana Blake, the protector of Black Reef and the assassin hell-bent on preventing you from taking out your targets. The end of the trailer shows players will also get an opportunity to take on Blake’s role in the fighting–as the PS Blog story notes, you’ll have the option to invade other players’ games as Juliana.
It sounds like Deathloop will be a timed exclusive for PS5, as Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley tweeted.

In addition to Resident Evil 8, Capcom announced a brand-new game called “Pragmata” during the Sony PS5 reveal event on Thursday. Coming in 2022, the sci-fi game largely remains a mystery.
But the reveal trailer, which we’ll post here ASAP, showed a future soldier who was firing some kind of weapon into the air to bring back echoes of people–and cats!–or something of the like.

The trailer begins in New York City’s Times Square, where the soldier is seen connecting with a young girl and a cat before a giant scary machine sculpture thing appears. A satellite crashes down from nowhere, and gravity seems to completely fall apart.
The soldier shoots out a net of sorts to catch the satellite, and both then fly into space. The soldier and the young girl then end up on the Moon, staring back at Earth.
The girl asks, “What is that?” and the soldier responds, “Freedom, our freedom.”
Pragmata will also be released on Xbox Series X and PC.
Announced via the PS5 game reveal event, Resident Evil 8 Village has a release date of 2021.

Reports of Resident Evil 8 going first-person, like Resident Evil 7, cropped up earlier this year, as did reported details about release plans and gameplay details for the resident Evil sequel. The series has seen a number of major new and remade releases recently, including RE7, which shifted the perspective of mainline entries, followed by the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, as well as the Resident Evil 3 Remake this year, which IGN praised as “a wonderful continuation of Capcom’s latest remake efforts.”

The gameplay revealed at the PS5 event showed a great deal of stylish violence, as the player-character is hunted across the island they’re stuck on.

The PS Blog has revealed that it will be exclusively on consoles for PS5, with a PC release at the same time. It will release this holiday season, so expect it around the launch of the PS5 console itself.
The story centres on rival assassins, Colt and Julianna. Colt is hunting eight targets, but is stuck in a perpetual timeloop that restarts each time he dies. Julianna is attempting to hunt him down and prevent him from breaking the timeloop. The catch: both assassins are played by players. Yes, it’s multiplayer. As Colt, you can play through missions as you would in Arkane’s other games such as Dishonored, but a player controlling Julianna may temporarily turn up in your game to attempt to stop you in your tracks.
If you’re not a fan of multiplayer, game director Dinga Bakaba assures that Julianna can also be controlled by AI, so the game can be played purely solo.
If you’re a long-term fan of Arkane, the concept is similar to The Crossing, an asymmetrical multiplayer game the developer was working on but was sadly cancelled.

The long-rumored remake from Bluepoint was officially announced at today’s PlayStation 5 games reveal. Japan Studios is helping Bluebpoint in development.
Back in 2018, Bluepoint said that its next game, another remake, was going to be bigger than its ambitious Shadow remake. And back in one of the earliest PS5 reveals, we learned Bluepoint was in fact working on a PS5 game, however details have remained light since.

Demon’s Souls debuted in 2009, and while its popularity has not been as widespread as the Dark Souls series to follow, it was still heralded at its release, earning a 9.4 in our original Demon’s Souls review. Demon’s Souls remained popular among fans long enough to have its online servers exist for years after launch, until the servers were shut off in 2018.
Bluepoint has frequently worked with Sony over the years on a number of remasters and remakes, including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Gravity Rush Remastered for PS4. For more on the studio’s last game, be sure to read our Shadow of the Colossus PS4 review.
