Valorant 2.08 Patch Notes Detail Addition Of Newest Map Breeze, Custom Games Update

Riot Games has released the full patch notes for Valorant’s 2.08 update, with the biggest addition being a brand-new map that turns 5v5 into fun in the sun.

Breeze is the new map coming in the 2.08 update, billed as being “set on a remote island distinguished by its bright, playful, and colorful environment, with wide open spaces and opportunities for long range encounters.” Breeze will debut in an Unrated (Valorant’s version of unranked or casual play) queue where only the new map will be playable for two weeks.

Other changes coming to Valorant in the 2.08 update include Coach slots in Tournament matches–which allow a player to choose a team and observe it in a live match–as well as a new warning system for first-time offenders of the Valorant Code of Conduct.

The full patch notes as written by Riot Games are available below.

    • More details on this queue can be found in the Competitive Updates section below.

We look forward to evolving the role of coaches and working on this feature in partnership with coaches from the VCT ecosystem.

GTFO’s Next Big Update, Rundown #5 (aka ‘Rebirth’), Revealed and Detailed

GTFO developer 10 Chambers Collective has revealed the fifth major update (aka Rundown #5), titled “Rebirth,” for its popular four-player PvE survival horror first-person shooter. The developer calls Rebirth the biggest GTFO update yet, as it will add new levels, scenarios, and boosters.

“Rebirth sets players farther down into The Complex into an area called Floodways — a new environment that substitutes a dark and cold industrial aesthetic for one where nature has sought to reclaim the domain,” 10 Chambers said. “Further expanding the lore of GTFO, within Floodways are clues as to why players are trapped in The Complex and imprisoned by The Warden.” See more in the trailer above, and in the screenshot gallery below.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=gtfo-rundown-5-rebirth-screenshots&captions=true”]

Boosts are new to GTFO; they’re rewards earned in-game that will offer temporary buffs to skills, allowing for things like better weapon handling (which we take to mean less recoil when firing) and speedier terminal hacking.

GTFO is available on Steam Early Access now. Check out our GTFO Early Access review to learn more of what we thought about its initial release.

The Tomorrow War’s First Images Released, Trailer Arrives Tomorrow

The first images from Amazon’s new sci-fi action movie The Tomorrow War have been released. They arrive ahead of the first trailer, which will be revealed tomorrow, April 28.

The images largely focus on star Chris Pratt, who plays a schoolteacher who is recruited, along with other skilled soldiers and civilians, to help fight a war against aliens 30 years in the future. There’s also a striking image of a half-destroyed city on fire. Check them out below:

The Tomorrow War also stars Betty Gilpin, JK Simmons, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. It’s directed by Adam McKay (The Lego Batman Movie), and it hits Amazon Prime Video on July 2.

The Tomorrow War will be one of the biggest movies that Amazon has released to date. The film was originally due to be released theatrically last summer, but it was pulled due to the pandemic. In January, it was confirmed that Amazon had secured the rights to release it, with the studio’s winning bid reportedly as much as $200 million.

It’s the latest movie that was originally intended for a theatrical release that Amazon has picked up for streaming in the last few months. In March, it released the comedy sequel Coming 2 America, while the Tom Clancy adaptation Without Remorse arrives on April 30.

Pokemon Go May 2021 Events Schedule

May is just around the corner, and Pokemon Go developer Niantic has a variety of events lined up for the popular mobile game next month. In addition to the Luminous Legends event, which will introduce Xerneas (and, later, Yveltal) to the game, Pokemon Go players have new Pokemon spotlight hours and more to look forward to over the next few weeks. Incarnate Forme Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus will remain in Raids for a few more days, and once they’re gone, two Gen 6 Legendaries will make their debut in the game. The Life Pokemon Xerneas will appear as a Raid boss during the first half of the month, while its counterpart, the Destruction Pokemon Yveltal, will arrive in the second half.

  • April 27 – May 4: Incarnate Forme Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus
  • May 4-18: Xerneas

Luminous Legends X

Xerneas and Yveltal
Xerneas and Yveltal

Niantic is kicking May off with the Luminous Legends X event. That runs from May 4-17 and introduces the Legendary Pokemon Xerneas to the game, along with the other Gen 6 Pokemon Spritzee, Swirlix, and Goomy. Xerneas will be appearing in five-star Raids throughout the event, while the other three monsters will appear in the wild alongside other Dragon and Fairy types. Niantic is also introducing a new item called the Rainy Lure Module, which will attract Pokemon that like rainy weather and allow Sliggoo (Goomy’s evolved form) to evolve into Goodra.

Luminous Legends Y

Following Luminous Legends X, Niantic is holding a Luminous Legends Y event from May 18-31. That will introduce the Pokemon Y mascot monster, Yveltal, to five-star Raids. Few other details have been announced thus far, but Niantic teases there will be increased spawns of Dark-type Pokemon, as well as increased Team Go Rocket activity.

HBO Max Will Have Live Sports With NHL Deal Beginning Next Season

The National Hockey League has reached a new TV rights deal with Turner Sports, and as part of it, games will air on HBO Max. The press release announcing the deal mentions that live broadcasts and simulcasts will come to HBO Max, meaning you can flip between The Sopranos and the NHL, if you want to.

This appears to be the first live sports programming on HBO Max, but it’s not the first deal of its type across streaming. NBC’s Peacock service has deals for the Premier League, WWE, and the Olympics.

The NHL’s deal with Turner will bring NHL games to TNT and TBS, along with rights to broadcast NHL games “to authenticated subscribers across all WarnerMedia platforms.”

Up to 72 regular season games each year and the NHL Winter Classic are part of the new deal. Turner is also getting the Stanley Cup Final for three of the seven years of the deal, half of the Stanley Cup playoffs each year, and more.

Turner is the second new TV rights partner for the NHL. In March, the NHL and ESPN reached a seven-year deal for TV rights. Both the Turner and ESPN deals begin for the 2021-2022 season.

NBC Sports was the previous home for the NHL on broadcast TV, but it dropped out of the rights negotiations.

It remains to be seen if the NHL’s new rights deals with ESPN and Turner have any impact on EA Sports’ NHL series. GameSpot has contacted the publisher in an attempt to get more information.

Turner’s deal with the NHL is said to be worth $225 million per season, according to The Athletic. It’s just the latest major TV broadcast deal to be announced this year, after the NFL announced a $110 billion rights deal.

Steven Seagal Is Selling His Bulletproof House

Martial artist turned actor Steven Seagal (Under Siege, Today You Die) has placed his 12-acre compound home in the Scottsdale, Arizona desert up for sale, according to AZfamily.com. Seagal’s listing is unusual because the custom-built property seems to suggest in reality he believes he’s one of his action-movie characters: The house is literally bulletproof, with many, many “floor-to-ceiling bulletproof windows.”

The estate, which is located almost 3,000 feet above sea level, also has four bedrooms, a theater, swimming pool, spa, and three-car garage. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the 9,000-square-foot home “is perched on a hillside lot and features lifelike statues that survey the exterior” with stone columns and skylights inside and an “infinity-edge pool overlooking the desert below” on one of the many decks.

As these real-estate bullet points (no pun intended) suggest, the house is not cheap: Seagal is currently looking to sell the home for $3.39 million. This would be pretty close to him breaking even after buying the property back in 2010 for $3.5 million, according to Curbed. A weird bit of trivia with that transaction is when Seagal moved to Scottsdale, Reese Witherspoon bought his former Los Angeles home for $7.2 million.

An action star who has worked steadily since the 1980s, Seagal has since the 2000s progressed from exclusively working in films to starring in a reality show, putting out a few albums, entrepreneurship (including a line of “therapeutic oils” and energy drinks), and releasing many direct-to-video movies. Since Exit Wounds–which he co-starred in with rapper DMX, who recently died at the age of 50–in 2001, it’s his A&E reality show Steven Seagal: Lawman that he’s likely best remembered for today. That series, which ran from 2009 to 2014, featured Seagal performing his duties as a reserve deputy sheriff in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and Maricopa County, Arizona.

Memorably, Seagal had a brief cameo in a 2017 episode of Netflix’s Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father, in which the British comedian and his dad have a chance encounter with Seagal in Thailand. Seagal spoofs his image a bit in the short appearance, but then can’t resist asserting his dominance by unexpectedly throwing Jack into a pond outside a hotel entrance–an experience Whitehall spoke to Uproxx about a few years ago.

Monster Hunter Rise Update To Add New Elder Dragons, Apex Rathalos and Diablos

Capcom has revealed several new monsters being added to Monster Hunter Rise as part of the game’s first free update, available from today. They include powerful Elder Dragons and Apex variants of two of the series’ most popular beasts.

Elder Dragons Kushala Daora, Teostra, and Chameleos form the trio of highly powerful foes coming as part of the update. They are joined by Apex Diablos and Apex Rathalos. Additionally, Apex monsters already available in Rise can now be hunted outside of Rampage quests. Magnamalo has also been added to the Rampage quest rotation.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/27/monster-hunter-rise-update-ver-20-elder-dragons-apex-monsters-trailer”]

The update also allows players to forge layered armour, and the max hunter rank will be unlocked when players fulfill all the required conditions. New event quests will also be released following the launch of the update, and these can be played offline once they have been downloaded.

Finally, new premium cosmetic DLC is available for purchase, containing new voice options, sticker sets, gestures, layered armour for buddies, and “more”.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/27/monster-hunter-stories-2-wings-of-ruin-trailer-3″]

Monster Hunter Rise is not the only game Capcom had announcements for; a handful of new details on Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin have also been revealed. The turn-based battle system from the original game has been overhauled, and now correct weapon types, elements, and skills will be an important part of defeating enemy monsters. Like in the main series, this combat system will allow specific body parts to be broken. Unlike traditional Monster Hunter games, though, players can team up with their own ‘Monstie’ to perform powerful Double Attacks and Kinship Attacks.

For Monster Hunter players on Switch looking for an end to their current adventures, Monster Hunter Rise will also finally get a proper ending in May.

8 Minutes of Naraka Bladepoint Battle Royale Gameplay

Naraka: Bladepoint is a new take on the booming battle royale genre that’s all about fast melee combat and the thrilling one-on-one engagements when combatants trade steel on the battlefield. Inspired by classic “Wuxia” stories focusing on mythical fantasy and martial-arts action, developer 24 Entertainment blends melee combat, fast-paced traversal, and an assortment of hero characters with their unique skills to create a new type of multiplayer experience that pushes players to directly face their opponents head-on.

We recently had some hands-on with the game during the special closed beta, which saw well over 140,000 players join online fights to make it to the finish. In this gameplay clip, we show off our time in the game’s 60-player battle royale mode, which has teams of 3 battle the opposition to be the last ones standing in the shrinking battle zone. In traditional BR fashion, you’ll need to acquire weapons and armor from the field or fallen players to arm yourself for the fights ahead. Along with various close-ranged swords, crossbows, and matchlock rifles to find, each of Naraka’s chosen hero character–six of which were available for the beta–has a set of unique skills and a special ultimate attack, which can help even the odds when your team find themselves backed into a corner.

We found Naraka’s take on multiplayer gameplay to be a thrilling mix of tactical combat and brawler action from our hands-on time. There’s a remarkable amount of depth in the core combat of Naraka. While you can win out a fight by mashing the attack button on unsuspecting foes, many of the more skilled players will be able to bait out your strikes and easily counter them with devastating blows. Couple this with some impressive platforming and traversal gameplay, allowing players to run up walls, climb trees, and grapple onto ledges as if they were in a classic Wuxia film; there were plenty of ways for players to get the jump on opposing teams to cut down the opposition.

While the closed beta offered a decent look at the game, including a surprisingly robust tutorial mode that served as a nice on-boarding for the game’s plot, Naraka is still a ways out from release. However, the developers stated that more updates and info will be coming for the game this year. While the game’s current state still could use some improvements, such as the strange balancing issues for weapons, lag, and visual bugs, Naraka is shaping up to be an interesting new contender on the online multiplayer stage.

For more on Naraka: Bladepoint, be sure to check back with GameSpot for more info as it comes, including its release date.
