Netflix’s Love Death And Robots Season 2 Gets Violent Red Band Trailer

The red band trailer for Love Death + Robots Volume 2 has been released. The animated sci-fi anthology show returns to Netflix on May 14.

Like last month’s first trailer, this new one teases the mix of dark dystopian stories and animation styles. But this is definitely not-safe-for-work, with plenty of sex, violence, and bad language throughout, plus some spectacular visuals. Check it out below:

Love Death + Robots is produced by David Fincher (Mindhunter, Zodiac, Mank) and Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate). Volume 2 will consist of eight episodes, and while details of the stories haven’t been revealed in advance, Netflix promises it will range “from wild adventures on far-flung planets to unsettling encounters close to home.”

The show has already been greenlit for Season 3, which will premiere in 2022. In a recent interview with IGN, Miller stated that he hopes to continue making the show for as long as possible. “Why would we stop doing this as long as they let us continue to do it?” he said. “I love animation, and I love animators. They’re just kind of a unique breed. It’s a real honor to be able to bring these people the project that they never thought they would get.”

Fortnite NBA Skins Leak As Summer Event Is Teased

Epic Games and the NBA seem to be gearing up for a (no pun intended) crossover event that will have basketball fans excited, according to recent leaks of Fortnite NBA skins.

Thanks to the Epic versus Apple ongoing court case, we already know Epic had been looking at adding a basketball mini-game to Fortnite Party Royale, including a Zion Williamson versus LeBron James community competition. While revealed documents pointed to those ideas being discussed in June 2020, there’s no reason to suspect the idea was scrapped. Almost a year later, we haven’t seen such an event in Fortnite yet, but today’s new leak alongside update 16.40 suggests that may soon change.

Shared first on Twitter by a trio of Fortnite dataminers, a collection of ten customizable Fortnite skins is our first look at upcoming NBA Fortnite skins. While the first images of the skins point only to basic Fortnite-branded jerseys and team apparel, it’s believed that these are the default options, much like how the NFL-branded Fortnite skins include a basic blue and red uniform for players not looking to sport any real team’s logo and colors.

It’s also true that Fortnite already offers non-NBA basketball skins, so this new batch is sure to be something more than that again. The new skins even allow players to customize the backboards worn as Back Bling, which feature interchangeable logos much like those for the NFL skins of last year.

A new update in Creative mode today teases a “to-be-announced summer event” coming soon, which is leading some players to connect the dots between the leaked basketball mini-game, the Zion versus LeBron event, and these forthcoming NBA skins. For now, there’s not a lot to go on to reliably predict those dots are worth connecting, but what we know for sure is these basketball skins, as well as other accessories like emotes, are on their way in a future Item Shop update. Dataminers have suggested the official reveal is coming soon, so we’ll be sure to update this story once those details go live.

In the meantime, you can catch up on how to earn the free Gold Lara Croft Style, or read about everything else that’s new this week in the Fortnite 16.40 patch notes.

PlayStation 5 VR Headset May Display At 4K And Include Haptics

It appears that Sony is set to develop more top-notch peripherals this generation. According to a report from UploadVR, Sony’s upcoming iteration of the PSVR headset for PlayStation 5 will include a number of improvements and impressive features, including a 4K display and even haptic feedback via a built-in motor.

According to the report, the upcoming headset’s 4K display will be slightly different than the standard 4K we’re used to. Instead of displaying at 3840×2160, the PSVR headset will output at 4000×2040 or 2000×2040 per eye.

Other features that may be coming with the headset include a lens separation adjustment dial and gaze tracking, or more simply put, eye tracking. That last feature is a fairly big deal, as with proper implementation it could totally change how VR users interact with digital spaces. For instance, if a player wanted to throw something they wouldn’t have to turn their whole body or head and throw the object. Instead, all they would have to do is look at where they want to throw something and let loose. Of course, eye tracking also comes with the additional benefit of making digital worlds more immersive and life-like.

Haptic feedback is another standout here, mainly because it hasn’t been implemented in a mainstream product before. That being said, you can currently experience VR with haptic feedback in the headset itself with products from bHaptics, that is, if you have the cash. With the upcoming PSVR headset, players could experience the wind on their face or a headshot in VR for the first time.

Sony has already announced that it is hard at work developing its PlayStation 5 VR headset. Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president Hideaki Nishino recently said that the headset would enable “the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity.” Likewise, it was also confirmed that the next PSVR headset would connect to the console with just one USB-C cable and feature new controllers. We have also reached out to Sony for comments on today’s reported PSVR features.

Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story Gets Haunting First Trailer For Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for Lisey’s Story, a new limited series based on Stephen King’s 2006 novel by the same name. In addition to an impressive cast, one of the show’s major attractions is that King himself will be writing each of the show’s eight episodes.

Lisey’s Story’s official synopsis is as follows: “this terrifying thriller follows widow Lisey Landon as a series of disturbing events revives memories of her marriage to author Scott Landon and the darkness that plagued him.” The series will premiere on Apple TV+ on June 4. Check out the trailer below to get a sense of how the prolific King adapted his own work for TV.

Oscar-winner Julianne Moore co-stars as Lisey, opposite BAFTA-winner Clive Owen as Scott. They are far from the only big names involved in the production, as JJ Abrams serves as producer. Lisey’s Story also stars Joan Allen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dane DeHaan, and Ron Cephas Jones. The show is directed by Pablo Larrain, who previously directed Natalie Portman in the movie Jackie. Larrain also directed A Fantastic Woman, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Outside of TV series, Apple TV+ has signed major movies such as Killers of the Flower Moon from director Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The streamer also has the movie Emancipation starring Will Smith coming up, along with a Napoleon Bonaparte movie starring Joaquin Phoenix from director Ridley Scott. Schmigadoon! and Ted Lasso are also Apple TV+ productions making the newer service and increasingly exciting streaming destination.

Fortnite’s NFL Skins Were Hugely Popular, Court Documents Reveal

As part of the ongoing court case between Apple and Epic, it was revealed that one of Fortnite’s first major licensed skins store bundles was a huge success. It was confirmed in court documents that Epic sold 3.3 million skins in November and December 2018 alone for its NFL partnership.

These were sold for 1,500 V-Bucks (~$15 USD), which works out to around $50 million in revenue for one set of skins. The NFL no doubt go a cut of those sales as part of its agreement with Epic, but clearly both sides benefitted from the partnership. V-Bucks can also be earned through gameplay, so it’s not a straight 1:1 for revenue.

What’s notable here is that this is seemingly the first time Epic has disclosed any specifics about the performance of its skins bundles, which is one of the main ways that the game makes money.

The NFL skins allowed players to dress up their Fortnite character like an NFL player. All 32 NFL teams were included in the initial store offering. It was so successful that Epic brought back the NFL skins with new features and more in 2020.

The developer also continued its partnership with sports clubs for in-game Fortnite skins. In 2021, Epic partnered with 23 famous football clubs–including Manchester City, AC Milan, Juventus, and more–for skins based on those teams. Given that football/soccer is far more popular globally than American football, it’s likely these skins had strong sales, too.

Looking ahead, NBA skins are reportedly coming to Fortnite in the future.

Outside of sports teams, Epic has teamed up with numerous other giant brands, like Deadpool and Alien, while the company offered skins based on Lara Croft, Kratos, and Master Chief as well. Leaked documents from the Apple vs. Epic trial also showed that Epic was planning or hoping to have Samus from Nintendo’s Metroid series come to Fortnite, alongside Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games and Naruto.

John Cena To Narrate Peacock Project Called WWE Evil

The former 16-time WWE Champion and mega movie star John Cena has his next project for Peacock lined up. WWE announced that Cena will narrate and produce WWE Evil, which is billed as “an entertaining psychological exposé into the minds of the most diabolical antagonists in WWE history, and their impact on mainstream culture.”

WWE Evil is the latest project to join the group of WWE programming on Peacock after parent company NBC Universal purchased the rights to WWE content in March. It will air along with original series like Undertaker: The Last Ride and Steve Austin’s show, The Broken Skull Sessions.

Peacock is also where you can watch every WWE pay-per-view and Raw, Smackdown, and NXT, but only up to a certain year. At press time, Raw and Smackdown only go back to 2008.

Cena has been announced to return to Monday Night Raw next week and will probably plug the show at some point, but it’s his first WWE appearance in over a year. He was last seen at Wrestlemania 36 in a cinematic match between The Fiend in a Firefly Funhouse Match, in which he lost.

Cena has been experimenting with movies since 2006 with WWE Studios’ The Marine, and now is considered one of the world’s biggest action stars. He’ll soon be featured in Fast and Furious 9, The Suicide Squad, which will have a spin-off solo show for HBO Max as well. He has done plenty of voice work in the past few years as well including the Wonderful Pistachio elephant and currently the voice of Honda for their Rugged campaign.

Resident Evil Village Has Shipped Over 3 Million Units Globally

Since its launch on May 7, Resident Evil Village has shipped over 3 million units globally.

Capcom announced the news in a press release, revealing that this newest entry available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC is off to a strong start.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/07/13-things-you-need-to-know-before-starting-re-village”]

Since 1996, cumulative shipments of Resident Evil games have exceeded 100 million and Village builds upon the success of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, which itself has shipped 8.5 million units as of December 31, 2020.

This news also follows Capcom’s announcement that it has hit record-high profits for the fourth consecutive year, in big part due to the releases of both Monster Hunter Rise and the remake of Resident Evil 3.

In our Resident Evil Village review, we said that playing it “is like visiting a disturbing and deadly Disneyland, where every attraction is a house of horrors. I got just as big a thrill out of revelling in its frenzied violence as I did retracing my steps through the gradually revealed recesses of its sizable village setting to uncover the darkest story secrets of its monstrous main cast.”

Roblox Continues To Add To Its Massive Playerbase, Now Up To 42.1 Million Daily Active Users

Roblox has long been one of the most popular games in the world–it’s had millions of fans for its nearly fifteen-year run. But it continues to grow and bring in new players, and it’s now up to 42.1 million daily active users.

According to Roblox’s Q1 2021 earnings, the game has also achieved solid revenue in addition to its huge playerbase, earning $387 million in revenue. Both revenue and daily active users (DAUs) are way up year-over-year, with revenue up 140% from Q1 2020 and DAUs up 37% from Q1 2020.

Roblox has exploded in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdowns went into effect across the world in March 2020. It has rapidly become one of the most popular games in the world–while showing off a particularly consistent streak in audience growth. Its recent successes have even surprised developer Roblox Corporation, which expected growth and revenue to decrease as lockdowns lifted throughout the world. However, while there was a slight downturn between February and March in monthly active users (MAUs), Roblox is now up to an all-time high 202 million MAUs.

Roblox’s fantastic year led to a massive initial public offering, and the company is valued at $35 billion. However, it still doesn’t make a profit, having lost $134 million in Q1 2021. In spite of this, Roblox Corporation’s CEO is still optimistic about the future, as the company continues to invest money in improving the game’s core technology.
