Tons Of New Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass

A whole slew of games are coming to Xbox Game Pass on PC and Xbox, or in some cases, have already arrived. As of today, you can play brand new releases (as of today) Microsoft Flight Simulator and Spiritfarer on Game Pass–the former is exclusively on PC, but the latter is on console as well. It was shown today during Nintendo’s indie stream.

Both PC and console will be seeing a ton of additions in August including Wasteland 3, Double Kick Heroes, Hypnospace Outlaw, Tell Me Why Chapter 1, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Don’t Starve: Giant Edition, Battletoads, and Resident Evil 7. PC Game Pass will be getting a few additional titles like Crusader Kings 3, Darksiders: Genesis, and Crossing Souls.

Come August 31, subscribers will have to wave goodbye to Creature in the Well on PC and console, and console players will be saying so long to Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams–Director’s Cut, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Metro: Last Light Redux, and The Jackbox Party Pack 3. September brings a couple more console losses with NBA 2K20 leaving the service September 1, and Red Dead Redemption 2 following on September 7. New Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Toys Are A Lot Like The Ones From The ’90s

While the next installment of the Jurassic World series–titled Dominion–isn’t hitting theaters until 2021, there is an animated Netflix series called Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which actually looks a bit terrifying for a show geared towards children, which hits the streaming service on September 18.

Of course, with a new Jurassic Park title comes a ton of Jurassic Park toys. Mattel has launched the new Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous toy line, and it’s very reminiscent of the original Jurassic Park toys. While these dinos don’t have that sweet battle damage the original toys had in the ’90s, they look and feel like the toys from your childhood. Check out some of the new ones Mattel sent our way below.

Above, is the Epic Roarin’ Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Camp Adventure Set, and the 15 Action Mini Dinos. These are just a few of the latest toys in the set. While the toys are based on the upcoming animated series, the look and feel of them all feel like the original Jurassic Park toys. Obviously, there are a few technological improvements as well.

The T-Rex roars, it’s mouth opens, and its whole head shakes when you press the button on its tail. It’s one of the scarier Jurassic World toys we’ve seen so far. The Camp Adventure set features three dinos–one of which was mini–and dinosaur expert/camper Darius Bowman–who is voiced by Paul-Mikél Williams (Westworld) on the show. Each of the dinos has an action button as well.

And yes, the camper fits inside the T-Rex’s mouth because of course you’re going to try and have the dinos eat the campers. These toys are available now at Target and the T-Rex is currently available on Amazon for $40. The 15-pack of mini dinos is on Target for $30 and the Camp Adventure set is available at Target for $40.

Speaking of new and upcoming toys, Hasbro revealed the next wave of Power Rangers figures, which includes another Goldar. NECA also has a brand-new set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys based on the classic ’90s movie. Finally, if video games are more your thing, you can learn more about the Lego Mario Bros sets, which are now back in stock.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access By The Numbers–Here’s How Big It Will Be

Baldur’s Gate III developer Larian Studios has announced an Early Access release date for the upcoming PC and Stadia game, along with some details about just how huge the game is going to be. While you might think that an Early Access release means that you won’t be getting a full experience, Baldur’s Gate III is shaping up to be absolutely enormous when it lands next month.

During the Panel from Hell livestream, Larian Studios creative director Swen Vincke followed up on previous comments about how much bigger the game would be than Divinity: Original Sin II, the studio’s previous game. Here are the figures he gave to showcase the size of the Early Access release.

  • Number of combat scenarios: 80 (22 in D:OSII)
  • Lines of dialog: 45,980 (17,600 in D:OSII)
  • Number of characters: 596 (142 in D:OSII)
  • Number of spells/actions: 146 (69 in D:OSII)

The video released today also showed off how different choices players make will change how encounters and dialog plays out–even in Early Access, Larian Studios wants it to be the case that the game will be different if they play it through multiple times.

Baldur’s Gate III will soon be upon us, although Larian Studios notes that there’s still plenty of work to be done–hopefully there won’t be another delay.

In the meantime, it might be worth familiarizing yourself with the previous two games.

You’ll Need Facebook To Use Oculus Devices In The Future, And People Aren’t Happy

Oculus is owned by social media giant Facebook, and the VR firm has traditionally kept its parent company away from its policy decisions. That’s set to change. In a recent tweet, Oculus announced that all users must log in with a Facebook account when they use an Oculus device for the first time–and many people aren’t happy with the news.

According to follow-up tweets, existing users will have the option to merge their Oculus account with their Facebook account. If a user chooses not to merge their account, they can continue using their Oculus account until January 1, 2023, when the company will end support for Oculus accounts. Past that date, devices will continue to work, but not at “full functionality”–whatever that means.

The policy change was met with widespread condemnation on social media, with many users saying that they’re unwilling to merge their accounts, or that they deleted their Facebook accounts years ago. Oculus claims that the move will make it easier for users to “find, connect, and play with friends in VR.” However, that’s not enough to offset general displeasure with the use of Facebook, even prompting public responses from some prominent game developers. Among those to speak out is God of War director Cory Barlog, who shared his thoughts in no uncertain terms.

Oculus is currently working on its much-rumored Oculus Quest 2. A mock-up of the still-unconfirmed headset emerged in July, but it’s still not clear if it’s legit.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Release In Early Access In September

Larian Studios has revealed exactly when you’ll be able to start playing Baldur’s Gate III during their Panel from Hell livestream. An Early Access release is coming to PC and Stadia on September 30, barring any last-minute delays. This release is being framed as the first “act” of the game’s Early Access period, which may go for a while.

A new CGI trailer has debuted, showing off Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, and the first area players will visit in the game. If you’re a Dungeons & Dragons fan, you’ll recognize it from the recent Descent into Avernus module, which will tie into Baldur’s Gate III. In the game’s opening, players will need to make an escape from the nautiloid ship they’re held captive on, even as it jumps between planes of existence.

Other locations will feature in the final game, but they will be announced at a later date.

The stream also showed off what Larian is calling the “lobotomy scene,” which happens during the ship escape. It involved the player stumbling upon a corpse with an exposed brain, only to find themselves in direct discussion with said brain, and eventually parting it from the skull it’s trapped within–only to discover that it’s not a brain, but an Intellect Devourer, a creature that takes over hosts for the Mind Flayers. Yikes.

The game will launch with five “Origin” characters to choose from at launch: Astarion (Elf/Vampire Rogue), Gale (Human Wizard), Lae’zel (Githyanki Warrior), Shadowheart (Half-Elf Cleric), Wyll (Human Warlock). You’ll also be able to customize and create your own characters.

Further details, including more details about the classes and races in the game, will be announced closer to Early Access launch. While Baldur’s Gate III is only coming to PC and Stadia for now, a release on consoles has not been ruled out.

Get A Great Pair Of Noise-Canceling Headphones For $148 At Amazon

Whether you’re trying to block out some noisy coworkers in the office, a loud conversation on a flight, or construction outside your home, having a good pair of noise-canceling headphones is a must. The premium pairs can get expensive, but fortunately, there’s a great deal on an affordable pair of noise-canceling headphones with wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

For today only, the Sony WH-XB900N model is down to $148, usually selling for $248 at Amazon. That’s the cheapest they’ve been all year, though they did drop as low as $123 last December. Still, it’s an excellent price and worth jumping on if you need a new pair. With 4.6 out of 5 stars and over 2,000 reviews on Amazon, the Sony WH-XB900N headphones are a solid budget option. In addition to noise-canceling, the headphones also feature up to 30 hours of battery life, hands-free calling, and a neat Quick Attention Mode that allows you to muffle the music and quickly listen in to what’s happening around you by placing your hand over the right ear cup.

Keep in mind that while these are Sony headphones, they’re not compatible with the PS4 via Bluetooth; you could, however, connect them to your PS4 controller using the included cable.

In our sister site CNET’s Sony WH-XB900N headphones review, David Carnoy gave the pair a 7.9 out of 10, calling them a comfortable, more affordable alternative to Sony’s popular WH-1000XM3 headphones but noting that they do lack the premium feel of the WH-1000XM3.

“The Sony WH-XB900N Extra Bass has a similar design to the WH-1000XM3 and shares many of its features but costs $100 less,” wrote Carnoy. “It’s a comfortable headphone, has USB-C charging, good battery life, and effective noise-canceling. It works well as a headset for making calls, and the sound quality is quite good as long as you don’t mind a preponderance of bass.”

Weird Al Joins Reno 911 in Hilarious New Trailer for Season 7, Part 2

One of TV’s most hilarious ensembles returns to Quibi with another batch of episodes next month. Part 2 of Reno 911! Season 7 is set to premiere on Quibi on August 24, 2020.

Here’s how Quibi describes Reno 911! Season 7: “Reno 911! lets viewers ride shotgun with the courageous men and women of the Reno Sheriff’s Department as they lay down the law and put it all on the line. The Reno 911! camera doesn’t blink – and when danger is near, the Reno Sheriff’s Department will be nearer.”

IGN is exclusively debuting the new Reno 911! Season 7, Part 2 trailer, which features an unlikely cameo from Weird Al Yankovic, which you can watch in the video below or at the top of the page:

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/18/reno-911-season-7-part-2-official-trailer-2020″]

Reno 911! Season 7 includes the original cast and creators, including Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Niecy Nash, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Ian Roberts, Joe Lo Truglio, and Mary Birdsong.

Early this year, Reno 911! co-creator Thomas Lennon told IGN what it was like to get the original cast back together. “It was definitely a trip to have the entire original cast back together. It’s a little bit like being in the Eagles and then doing the Eagles ‘Hell Freezes Over,’ but the fact is that the cast was better, funnier and sharper now than any time before. It was amazing to see how everyone had grown as improvisers and actors, because everyone came out of the gate with no preparation.”

Be sure to check out Reno 911! Season 7, Part 2 when it premieres on Quibi on August 24, 2020. Let us know what you thought of the trailer in the comments section below.

Deathloop Delayed to 2021

Arkane has announced that Deathloop has been delayed to Q2 2021. This means it will no longer launch in the same window as the PS5 console, as originally announced at Sony’s PS5 showcase earlier this year.

The Dishonored developers explained in a statement posted to Twitter that the working-from-home situation required due to COVID-19 has meant that the creation and polish of the game is taking “longer than normal”.

The delay from holiday 2020 to Q2 2021 means it will land next spring, somewhere between April and June.

“This extra time will allow our team to bring Deathloop’s world to life with as much character and fun as you’ve come to expect from our team,” said Arkane.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/10/deathloop-developer-update-video”]

While we’ll have to wait a few months longer to play Deathloop, Arkane promises that the next update on the game is “coming soon.” If you’ve not yet caught up on what Deathloop is, take a look at our interview with the staff at Arkane Lyon, who explain how this ambitious story-based PvP campaign works.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review

After Samsung introduced a bigger Galaxy Note 10 Plus phone, I didn’t expect the company would follow up with even larger Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but that’s exactly where we are today. The new phablet truly pushes what I would consider a pocketable device with its 6.9-inch display, while also integrating a faster processor and memory, as well as an absurd telephoto camera.

However, for a smartphone that starts at $1,400, it’s far from perfect. In fact, it has a few glaring flaws, including a reduced amount of storage compared to last year’s top Samsung offering. Meanwhile, the display can only present a picture at maximum resolution or frame rate, but not both when other, more affordable handsets can.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-review&captions=true”]

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra  – Design and Features

From the front, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra looks identical to last year’s model. The biggest difference, of course, is the Galaxy Note 10 Plus’s 6.8-inch display has been replaced with a bigger 6.9-inch screen. This has caused the phone to grow slightly taller from 6.39 inches to 6.49 inches. Otherwise, both handsets are still 3.04 inches wide and the Note 20 Ultra is only 0.01-inches thicker.

That extra thickness comes purely from the Note 20 Ultra’s massive new camera hump that sticks out like a sore thumb on the back of this device. It’s impossible to miss now that all the cameras are surrounded by a rectangular protrusion that’s large enough to make novelty stamps jealous of its size. It also juts out of the handset by a full two millimeters.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

Whereas the Note 10 Plus caught everyone’s attention with its extremely reflective Aura Glow colors, this year’s model features a matte finish with subdued colors including Mystic Black, White, and Bronze. Not that I’m knocking the new colors – they pair perfectly with the business nature of this device, and the Mystic Bronze here is a great blend between rose gold and champagne gold. Best of all, the matte finish and rosy color combine together so well it actually looks like it’s made of metal from most angles.

Of course, you probably won’t spend as much time staring at the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra’s back than its display, and the good news is it’s a stunner. With a maximum resolution of 1,440 x 3,088 and a refresh rate up to 120Hz, this is a great screen for fans of high resolution or high frame rate displays. Now I say “or” because once again Samsung has failed to deliver on a phone screen that is both high resolution and frame rate at the same time – and there’s even less of an excuse this time around.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

It was already disappointing to have to choose between a QHD+ resolution or high frame rate on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, but at the time, we chalked it up to a limitation of the Snapdragon 865 chipset. However, a month later, the OnePlus 8 Pro released with a 1,440 x 3,168 display operating at 120Hz and the very same mobile processor. But now Samsung’s latest smartphone (with an even faster processor to boot) still can’t do both QHD+ and 120Hz once again. There just doesn’t seem to be any sensical reason for this limitation, especially when the Note 20 Ultra is so expensive.

The only thing that makes up for the annoying display limitations is the fact the screen itself is fantastic. Samsung’s new Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is simply stunning, with a 1,500-nit peak brightness that overpowers even direct sunlight. You also get the truest blacks we’ve ever seen on a smartphone. When you engage Dark Mode on this phone, the Google Search bar becomes truly black instead of a dull gray like on other handsets. Beyond the amazing levels of contrast, colors just pop off the screen, from the vibrant red of the camera app to the deep green on Spotify’s badge.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

Another big improvement is how much better it feels to write notes with the phone’s integrated S-Pen. According to Samsung, the latency between the screen and the built-in stylus has been decreased to just 9ms, and it makes a world of difference.

On older Samsung Note devices, it always felt like my digital scribbling lagged well behind any strokes I put to glass. But now writing and drawing on the Note 20 Ultra feels almost as immediate as a real pen or pencil.

The immediacy gives me a ton more confidence to take notes, whereas the older sluggish interface had me double guessing whether it would exacerbate my already terrible handwriting. Samsung’s character recognition technology also still continues to amaze me as it mostly succeeds at turning my chicken scratch into comprehensible text I can easily export into a normal document in Microsoft Word or Google Drive.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra-6

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra  – Gaming and Performance

This phablet comes sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, which thus far we’ve only seen fitted inside of gaming phones like the Asus ROG Phone 3 and Nubia Red Magic 5G. Compared to regular Snapdragon 865, this Plus chip runs at a 0.3GHz higher clock speed, granting it 10% more processing and graphical power. The onboard memory has also been upgraded from LPDDR4 to LPDDR5, which also grants this year’s model with even more speed.

The only curious misstep on this spec sheet is the base storage of the $1,400 handset starts at 128GB while the Galaxy Note 10 Plus of yesteryear started off with 256GB of storage for $1,099. Pricing aside, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra feels like an Android phone that needs more storage now than ever before since it can shoot 8K videos at 24fps.

All of these cutting edge components make the Note 20 Ultra a fantastic multitasker. You can have three apps open at the same time between two across a split window and a third one running on a pop-up menu. Thanks to the Note 20 Ultra’s expansive screen real estate, there’s plenty of room to do all of this legibly.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra-5

Of course, you can also use all of that 6.9-inch screen goodness just to play mobile and streaming games on a really big display. Everything from Forza Horizon 4 to Shadow Gun: War Games looks great running on the Note 20 Ultra’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X with perfect contrast and color. Samsung’s special partnership with Microsoft has also led to the best version of the xCloud Game Streaming app I’ve seen. It features a few extra options to block notifications or open your home row apps in a popup window over any game you’re playing.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-sample-images&captions=true”]

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra  – Camera

Fortunately and unfortunately, the Samsung Note 20 Ultra has received a similar, but also worse, camera setup from its Galaxy S20 Ultra brethren. To that end, the Note 20 Ultra now features a 108MP wide-angle camera with a pair of 12MP Ultrawide and telephoto cameras. That’s a little worse off than the Galaxy S20 Ultra that also has a 48MP telephoto camera.

The Note 20 Ultra also features similar Space-Zoom features for a hybrid optical-digital zoom up to 50x – not quite the 100x as was found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Despite those deficits, this handset takes stunning photos with fantastic color and excellent dynamic range.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-lenses&captions=true”]

Once again, the most fun thing to do with Samsung’s latest smartphone series is to shoot as far away as possible. Though you’re only limited to 50 times magnification, you’ll rarely get anything more than a garbled mess of pixels when shooting at maximum levels of zoom – and that’s even with the help of a tripod. 20x, and especially 10x, are far more usable and allow you to snap photos of unsuspecting puppies, birds, and boats.

20200809_204713

What’s even more impressive is Samsung’s Night Mode, which can take long exposures up to 30-seconds long. That said, it requires you to be either extremely still or have the phone set up on a tripod. While shooting long exposures of water usually turns the surface of the water into a still, glass-like sheet, it was interesting to see how Samsung’s image processing tries to do the same thing while retaining as much detail from some of the waves at the same time.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/05/samsung-announces-the-galaxy-note-20-ultra-its-biggest-smartphone-yet-ign-news”]

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra  – Battery Life

To accommodate the larger screen, the Note 20 Ultra features a battery with 200 more milliamps of power capacity than the Note 10 Plus. With 4,500mAhs in the tank, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra easily saw me to the end of most days with 65% battery life left – well more than enough to get me through the night and into the next afternoon without having to charge up again. My typical daily usage involved a few hours of YouTube and other streaming media, as well as checking on emails and social media throughout the day.

The included 25W charger gets a completely discharged phone back up to 58% of battery life in just 30 minutes. Meanwhile, plugging in the handset for an hour almost fully recharges the device up to 93%.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=best-smartphones&captions=true”]

Purchasing Guide

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is available from Amazon at a starting price of $1,399. Meanwhile, the smaller Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is available starting at $1,199. Both phones come with 128GB of SSD storage, but only the larger Ultra comes with an expandable MicroSD card slot. The Note 20 Ultra also has 12GB of memory, meanwhile, while the regular Note 20 only has 8GB and a 6.7-inch display that reaches a maximum resolution of 6.7-inch 2,400 x 1,080 and a 60Hz frame rate.

Razer is well known for making quality gaming hardware. The laptops above have appeared on IGN’s Best Gaming Laptops 2020, as well as our Best 17-Inch Laptops for both work and play. From the Best Gaming Laptops article:

The latest Razer Blade 15 base model packs in serious hardware with an Intel Core i7-10750H, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060. That’s a fast enough configuration to let the 1080p display make full use of its 144Hz refresh rate. And, if the graphics processor eventually becomes a bottleneck, Razer’s external graphics card dock is still an option for boosting performance.

As for the accessories, the Razer BlackWidow Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is a great piece of technology, and at 41% off, it’s a pretty killer deal. A pair of exceptional gaming mice is also on sale. The Razer Basilisk v2 has a 19% discount and the Viper is 23% off.

And if you’re in the market for a new headset, you have a choice of deals. The wireless Razer Thresher is marked down from $129.99 to $99.99, while the wired Razer Kraken is $64.99, down from $79.99.

All in all, these are some fine deals on excellent PC gaming hardware. But, as with all good things in life, they won’t last forever. Happy deal hunting.
