Nintendo Switch Top 10 Best-Selling Games List: Mario Kart 8 Is Still No. 1

As part of Nintendo’s latest earnings release, the company updated its top 10 list of best-selling games for Nintendo Switch, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be the biggest overall.

The game sold another 1.69 million units during the April-June period to improve its lifetime sales to 37.08 million copies. Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold 1.26 million more copies during the April-June period to boost its lifetime sales to 33.89 million.

The top 10 list of best-selling games on Switch is ordered exactly the same as the last time Nintendo updated the list in May, with one exception. Ring Fit Adventure has now sold 11.26 million copies worldwide, knocking New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe out of the top 10. Ring Fit Adventure no doubt enjoyed a bump in sales thanks in part to the pandemic and the growing trend of working out from home.

Also of note, Nintendo announced that nine games sold more than 1 million copies on Switch during the latest financial period, which points to the strength of the platform beyond Nintendo’s own games.

You can see the full top 10 sales chart below. It includes games sold individually and in bundles, as well as download sales.

Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Gets Six New Character Posters

Marvel has released six character posters of the stars of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ahead of its theatrical premiere on September 3, 2021.

Shared on Twitter, these posters include Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Awkwafina’s Katy, Tony Leung’s Wenwu, Meng’er Zhang’s Xialing, Michelle Yeoh’s Jiang Nan, and the mysterious Death Dealer.

These posters follow another new one that accompanied a new Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featurette that includes scenes from the upcoming film alongside insights from producer Kevin Feige, stars Simu Liu and Awkwafina, and director Destin Daniel Cretton about Shang-Chi’s backstory and connection to the Ten Rings organization.

Unlike Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will debut exclusively in theaters and will not be a Premier Access title on Disney+. Disney’s decision to put Black Widow out in theaters and on Disney+ on the same day caused not only theater owners to be furious with its box office slump, but also led to star Scarlett Johansson to sue Disney over a contract breach.

For more, check out which Phase 1 villain looks to be making a return in the film and our explainer on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and whether or not the Ten Rings themselves are magical.

PS5 Dev Kits Reportedly Seen on eBay Before Being Delisted

Two PlayStation 5 development kits were seemingly spotted on eBay, before swiftly being removed from the online marketplace.

The DFI-T1000AA and DFI-D1000AA models were originally spotted by Twitter user @iDCx1337 (below) who claims that the latter actually lasted a few hours on the site before being taken down. For those unfamiliar with the two models, the DFI-T1000AA test kit closely resembles Sony’s retail release model whilst the DFI-D1000AA console is closer to that of a V-shaped space-age hand dryer – although we’ll leave it up to you to decide which model is aesthetically superior.

According to screenshots, the DFI-D1000AA model listed on eBay accumulated an auction price of €2,850, (approximately $3,376 USD) after 12 bids on the listing. Perhaps it was hopeful of the seller to think that they would make it through the 9 days and 16 hours that the kits were set to be on auction for. Included within the listing were two fully blacked-out Dualsense controllers.

Though it is unclear who initiated the takedown request for the dev kits or which rules were broken in them being listed on eBay, it is possible that it could have been made by Sony.

This isn’t the first time this week that not-for-sale PS5 hardware didn’t make it into consumer hands. IGN reported on some McDonald’s-themed PS5 controllers making the rounds online. A statement from McDonald’s Australia confirmed that images of the custom controller had been provided to the media “in error” and that the design was merely a mock-up not intended for release, let alone one that they’d need to consult Sony about.

For other PlayStation 5 hardware news, you can check out this piece about the recent addition of M.2 SSD beta support for the console. Meanwhile, if you’re currently in the market for a PS5 then you can read this uplifting article reporting that Sony says it has secured enough components to hit its goal of selling over 22 million PS5s by the end of its current fiscal year.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals Also Coming To PS4 And PS5

Night School Studio has announced that the sequel to its 2016 release, Oxenfree, is also now coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 soon. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals was revealed back in April during Nintendo’s indie showcase.

The developer shared some new details regarding the game’s story. The main character is Riley Poverly who was born and raised in Camena to a veteran father and absent mother. She moved away from Camena the first chance she got and has since been bouncing between cities and jobs in order to find some direction in her life. However, a recent change has led her back to her hometown to take an entry-level job as an environmental researcher.

The last few months in Camena have seen some unnaturally occurring electromagnetic waves disrupting electrical and radio equipment throughout the town. This has affected the daily lives of its citizens, including TVs randomly turning on and off, stations unable to transmit signals, and planes losing their radar. Riley’s new job is to explore various areas, plant radio transmitters, and then report back the data they collect.

Many of the same tools used in the first Oxenfree game will be used in Oxenfree II: Lost Signals. The game will revolve around a conversation system and a radio that can tune into supernatural signals. It seems like more information could be revealed soon about what happens if players go into the old mining town, Garland; there’s time travel involved.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is launching on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch sometime this year.

PlayStation Reportedly Focusing on ‘Console-Quality AAA Games’ For PSVR 2

Sony has reportedly expressed a desire to focus on console-quality AAA titles for PlayStation VR 2, rather than continuing the VR experience style of games seen on the original PSVR.

YouTube channel PSVR Without Parole reports that Sony recently held a private event for potential PSVR 2 developers, where the company said that it would like to move away from VR experiences and focus on console-quality AAA games. Sony reportedly plans to achieve this by creating “hybrid” games that can be played both in VR and the standard on-screen way, similar to how IO Interactive created the optional VR mode for Hitman 3. The plan would be to allow players to download either the standard or VR version of a game.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/06/16/psvr-2-reportedly-planned-for-holiday-2022-launch-ign-news”]

The report notes that nothing was mentioned in regards to backwards compatibility, but that Sony confirmed that it will push for original PSVR games to be remastered for the new hardware.

Beyond Sony’s plans for games, the company also revealed a few more technical specs for its new VR hardware, which is reportedly internally known as ‘NGVR’, or Next-Generation VR. These match information that was previously leaked. The display panel inside the headset has a resolution of 4000×2080 pixels (2000×2040 per eye), and a field of view angle of 110 degrees. This puts it at 10 degrees higher than the original PSVR. The system also apparently is capable of flexible scaling resolution, and will concentrate resources on the player’s area of focus to help reduce strain on the PS5’s available power. Within the headset is also a haptic feedback system designed to both increase immersion and reduce motion sickness.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”slug=playstation-vr-2-controllers-4-images&captions=true”]

The PSVR 2 controllers, which were revealed back in March, will be bundled with the headset. Sony also confirmed that the previously announced finger detection will be analogue, and so capable to sensing how far away your thumb, index, and middle finger are.

PSVR Without Parole claims that Sony will reveal launch details in early 2022. Previous leaks have suggested that the device will launch around Holiday 2022.
