NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 Review

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 does a solid job making 2v2 arcade basketball fun for the long haul. Expanding on its predecessor, this sequel – now under the NBA 2K umbrella – includes two new major modes that enhance both the solo and multiplayer experiences. While the core gameplay feels very similar to NBA Playgrounds, that’s mostly a good thing. Playgrounds 2 still lacks the depth of the defunct NBA Street series and the pure chaos of the also-dormant NBA Jam, but it has found its footing as a unique take on arcade basketball in its own right.

On the single-player side of the equation, Playgrounds 2 features a season mode, which replaces the six tournaments seen in the original. This isn’t a full-fledged 82-game haul, however. Instead, each season consists of 14 regular season games and a best-of-three playoff format for the top eight teams from each conference. The truncated schedule works well here. You can finish an entire season in under a couple hours with the default game length of three minutes. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the long slog of sports sim seasons. It also gives you the option to play the season cooperatively with a friend via couch co-op or online. Of note, season mode has four difficulty levels, and the AI feels smarter in the sequel, especially when ratcheting up the difficulty.

Why Is Superman’s Costume Changing in the Arrowverse Crossover?

With the various Arrowverse shows finally returning to the air, we’re starting to get a better idea of what to expect from this fall’s “Elseworlds” crossover. Actor Stephen Amell tweeted an unusual photo featuring co-star Tyler Hoechlin wearing a new version of the Superman costume, one that trades the traditional red and blue color scheme for black and silver.

This isn’t the first time the Man of Steel has worn a black costume, but it’s usually a pretty big deal when he does. We have a few theories as to what this costume change could mean for the crossover, so scroll down to find out more.

Destiny 2 Festival Of The Lost Rewards: All The Halloween Masks, Items, And More

Coming not long after Destiny 2‘s launch, last October didn’t see the franchise’s annual Halloween event, Festival of the Lost, take place. That changes for 2018, and Bungie is doing more than ever, adding a brand-new activity type, among other things. But of course the highlight for many players is the new gear and rewards you can get your hands on, all of which you can check out above.

A fixture of Festival of the Lost in the original Destiny was the variety of masks you can obtain and wear, and this year is no different. Among those we’ve already gotten a look at are Petra, Shaxx, and the Traveler, though the best of the bunch might be Cayde’s chicken friend. Masks can be obtained by purchasing them with Fragmented Souls. This is a new type of currency earned by completing Festival of the Lost daily bounties offered by Amanda Holliday.

We don’t yet know if there will be other ways of getting your hands on masks. However, we do know there is a special Bright Engram–the Ephemeral Engram–that you’ll receive in addition to the usual Steadfast Engram every time you fill the XP bar (assuming you’ve reached the level cap). These Engrams will contain a variety of new items, some of which will also be sold for Bright Dust at Eververse during the event.

Many of these items are also pictured above–there are Sparrows, ships, Ghosts (including one that looks like a cat), Ghost Projections, emotes, and more. In terms of usable gear, we know there’s a new auto rifle called Horror Story that you’ll be able to purchase with the aforementioned Fragmented Souls.

Alongside all of these new items to acquire, there are new activities to take part in. First and foremost is the Haunted Forest, where you’ll take on increasingly difficult enemies over the course of a 15-minute run in a modified Infinite Forest. This can be played solo or with a Fireteam of three (with matchmaking available if your friends are too scared to dive in). There’s also a murder mystery involving the cryptarch Master Ives; you’ll have to find out who killed him over the course of a questline that rewards Powerful gear.

Festival of the Lost goes live today, October 16, and runs until November 6. Its debut coincides with the return of Iron Banner, which has been revamped with better rewards and easier bounties to complete. Additionally, a new update–patch 2.0.4–launches today.

DC’s Flash Movie Has Been Delayed Yet Again

DC fans waiting to see Ezra Miller reprise his role as The Flash from last year’s Justice League are going to have wait a while longer. It has been reported that the troubled Flash movie has been delayed once more and is unlikely to hit theaters until 2021.

According to Variety, the movie was expected to commence shooting in March next year ahead of a 2020 release. However, the script is still being worked on, and it is unlikely to be ready in time to hit the production start date. The problem is that star Ezra Miller is also a key member of the Fantastic Beasts series cast and with production on the third Fantastic Beasts movie starting in July, the DC film can’t start until late 2019 at the earliest.

The Flash movie has never been formally greenlit and has been through a number of directors and delays since it was first announced back in 2015. Original director Seth Grahame-Smith was replaced by Rick Famuyiwa, who himself quit in 2016, citing “creative differences.” Warner then hired Joby Harold to rewrite the entire script, and at one stage, Back to the Future director Robert Zemekis was in talks to direct. In January, Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were announced as directors.

Although it seems unlikely that we’ll see the Flash film any time soon, there are plenty of other DC projects in the pipeline. Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 1984 are all due over the next 13 months, with the Joker prequel movie now in production as well. Beyond that, Margot Robbie is set to reprise her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn in the female supervillain team-up Birds of Prey, which hits theaters in February 2020.

It was also recently reported that James Gunn, who was fired from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 in July, is a writing a Suicide Squad movie for DC. A direct sequel to 2015’s Suicide Squad was expected to start shooting soon, but it has now been reported that Gunn’s script will be “a whole new take” on the story. Although Gunn has only been hired as a writer, it is also possible that he might direct the film.
