Marvel and DC Copy Each Other’s New Villains

To say that Marvel Comics and DC Comics have a habit of copying each other is a bit of an understatement. There are countless examples from over the years where one company either paid homage, took inspiration from, or downright ripped off an idea from the other, like how Marvel’s Thanos and Deadpool were copies of DC’s Darkseid and Deathstroke, respectively. However, this copycat thing was taken to a whole new level when, last week, both publishers essentially introduced the same villains for their flagship teams in the exact same way.

Warning: spoilers ahead for The Avengers #1 and DC Nation #0!

Last week was the biggest of the year for comics because Saturday was Free Comic Book Day. Comic publishers know that shops will be flooded with readers both new and old, so they put out their best stuff to catch their attention. Last Wednesday saw the release of The Avengers #1 that featured a new team of Avengers assembling to fight 2000-foot tall “Dark Celestials” aka evil space gods. And on FCBD, DC released a sampler platter-style comic called DC Nation #0 that included three short stories about the Joker, Superman, and the Justice League, the latter of which saw the heroes (and some villains) rally together to fight gargantuan “Omega Titans” aka evil space gods.

10 Best Daredevil Comics and Graphic Novels

Daredevil isn’t the flashiest hero in Marvel’s canon, which might be part of the appeal. He’s a street-level hero who still operates at very much the level of a real superhero, mixing some low-level super powers with legal acumen, a billy club, and good old fashioned Irish Catholic boxing. He’s also been fortunate to have some of the most consistently excellent writing at Marvel Comics over the years.

Here are the best Daredevil reads that you should check out.

And for more comics fun, check out our video on how Avengers: Infinity War finally gave us the true Doctor Strange from the comics:

New Nintendo Switch Stand Makes Charging Easier in Tabletop Mode

Nintendo is making life a little easier for Nintendo Switch owners who enjoy playing in Tabletop mode.

An official adjustable charging stand for the Switch is launching on the 13th of July, which will allow players to charge their Switch while playing in Tabletop mode – something that was previously impossible due to the bottom edge location of its USB-C port (er…unless you owned a third-party stand).

Uber Releases Details on Flying Taxi

Uber has released more information about its concept fleet of flying taxis the company started talking about last year.

Wired reports the rideshare company has given some idea of the flying vehicle they’re hoping will ease transport congestion by moving some traffic to the skies.

The concept ‘Common Reference Model’ for these sky taxis will seat four passengers with one pilot in single file on a slender electric powered plane.

Two sets of wing-like supports branch out either side and are joined by battery pods midway with sit stacked rotors held furthest from the main body.

Defending Indy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

It’s easy to bag out Indiana Jones’ fourth cinematic outing, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, because, frankly, there’s plenty wrong with it. You don’t have to look too far on the Infernal Google Machine to see ramblings, listicles, and video rants dedicated to this very topic.

As much as I used to revel in denying its existence, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull isn’t the Jar-Jar-Binks-filled, sand-everywhere, Han-Shot-first travesty that’s otherwise known as George Lucas’ bad touch in the post-Original Trilogy world. So, in the spirit of defying Metacritic User Review logic where if something isn’t a 10 it can only possibly be a 0, let’s break down the pros of Indy’s fourth cinematic outing.

The Red Sox Play A Lot Of Fortnite, Have To Remind Themselves To Eat

Like pretty much everyone else on the planet right now, members of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox play a lot of Fortnite. A new piece from Jen McCaffrey at The Athletic shines a light on just how popular the game is among the team.

Red Sox pitcher David Price gave an example of how committed the team is to Fortnite. “Let’s say we get back at 11 PM from a game, we’ll play until 1 AM, 1:30 AM, 2 AM depending on what time our game is the next day,” Price, who signed a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Sox in 2015, said in the piece (which is behind a paywall), according to NESN.

Price added that he and other teammates are so wrapped up in Fortnite that they have to remind themselves to eat. “We have to make sure, ‘All right we’ve got to eat. Let’s take 30 minutes, eat some lunch, and see you back in 30.’ But you can lose track of time whenever you’re playing it.”

According to McCaffrey, a good number of Red Sox players enjoy Fortnite. In addition to Price, Heath Hembree, Craig Kimbrel, Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Xander Bogaerts, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, J.D. Martinez, and Carson Smith all play the unthinkably popular battle royale game.

According to Hembree, Carson Smith is the strongest Fortnite player. The teammates often play Squads, and Smith leads the way. “We play teams of four so we just try to make sure Carson’s on our team and we just follow his lead and he’ll win us battles,” Hembree explained. “Carson kind of takes over every game.”

Another interesting element to this story is that Price, one of the Red Sox’s best pitchers, missed his start against the New York Yankees this week due to minor carpal tunnel syndrome. Some are suggesting his gaming might be to blame, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn’t think so.

If the Red Sox were struggling, stories about their gaming habits might not go over so well. But the team has a record of 25-10, which is good for a share of the best record in baseball as of May 9.

In other Fortnite news, Avengers: Infinity War bad guy Thanos is now in the game as part of a limited-time mode. For more, check out GameSpot’s video above that shows off how and where to get Thanos’ super-powerful gauntlet.
