Darksiders 3 Lead Actor’s Audition Was 4 Words Long
Cissy Jones is no stranger to tough auditions. As a voice actor for games like Firewatch, Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and now Darksiders 3, she’s put in some heavy duty hours. Many times, she doesn’t even know what she’s necessarily auditioning for.
Darksiders 3 was no exception, but on the bright side, her recording was written to be only four words long. Jones sat down with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey to discuss her Darksiders 3 audition on this month’s IGN Unfiltered.
Like many of Jones’ gigs, the developers behind the project kept her in the dark on what the specific project was, but did tell her that the character she was portraying was a “badass woman, one of the seven deadly sins personified.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Stars React to James Gunn, Fans Sign Petition to Disney
Just days after controversial tweets resurfaced from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn, resulting in the visionary immediately being fired – fans and actors of the films have come out in Gunn’s defense.
A petition on change.org has over 185,000 signatures as of Monday morning and continues to climb drastically. The petition calls for Disney to rehire Gunn and “to realize the mistake they made and not do it again in the future.”
Stars of the Guardians of the Galaxy films have come forward on Twitter with their reactions to Disney’s decision, most recently Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker.
PES 2019 Demo Coming in August
Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 will be receiving a demo on August 8 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The demo version of PES 2019 will let players play in exhibition match, online quick match, and offline co-op match modes, all playable in FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou and FC Schalke 04’s Veltins-Arena. 10 teams will be available in the demo, including FC clubs from Liverpool, Barcelona and Inter Milan, and the national teams from Argentina and France.
The full version of PES 2019 is coming to North America on August 28, and the rest of the world on August 30. New features to this year’s PES include visible fatigue, which impacts performance and behavior of the players, new shooting mechanics, and improved ball physics.
Fired Guardians Of The Galaxy Director James Gunn Defended By Hellboy Star Selma Blair
On Friday, it was reported that director James Gunn had been fired from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by Disney following the resurfacing of tweets he made several years ago. Gunn’s departure led to a swift response from his Guardians star Dave Bautista, and Bautista has now been joined by actress Selma Blair, who has tweeted a passionate defence of Gunn.
Blair, who is best known for movies such as Hellboy and Legally Blonde, wrote to Gunn on Twitter, thanking him for his friendship and for his support in her decision to speak out about the abuse she alleges against disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
“I thank you for your talent, your decency, and your evolution as a man,” she wrote. “You propped me up when I was in a scary place, and guided me towards the decent and right thing to do. You have shown strength of character more than most anyone I know. You understood.”
Blair followed this with a second tweet, in which she linked to a Change.org petition asking Disney to rehire Gunn. She added: “Because if people are punished despite changing, then what does that teach people about owning mistakes and evolving? This man is one of the good ones.”
Guardians lead actors Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana also responded to Gunn’s dismissal from Vol. 3, but in far vaguer terms. Saldana stated it had been a “a challenging weekend,” and that she was “pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term.” Pratt, meanwhile, simply tweeted a Biblical quote.
The tweets that led to Gunn’s dismissal date back almost a decade, and saw the director joking about topics like pedophilia and rape. They resurfaced online via conservative website The Daily Caller, and Disney was quick to sever ties with him. In a statement, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said, “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
Gunn offered a subsequent statement in which he took responsibility for the tweets and accepted Disney’s decision. “My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative,” his statement read. “I have regretted them for many years since–not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.
“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse.”
The news emerged in the midst of San Diego Comic-Con 2018, where Marvel was not expected to have any major announcements. Gunn himself was set to appear at SDCC on Friday during the Sony Pictures panel to promote a new project, but Sony subsequently pulled this announcement from its schedule.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been set for release in 2020, though Gunn’s removal could affect that. The events of Avengers: Infinity War stand to have a potential impact on the film, though Avengers 4–due out next year–could always make further changes. Without saying how, Gunn had previously teased that Guardians 3 would be “very different.”
Family Guy Will Deal With Quagmire’s History Of Assault
Family Guy is known for touching on taboo subjects, and soon one of its most outrageous characters will get a reckoning of sorts. Glenn Quagmire, a family friend of the Griffins known mostly for his serial sexual harassment and assault, will get an entire episode devoted to dealing with his behavior.
Huffington Post reports that showrunner Rich Appel announced plans to deal with the “MeToo” movement during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con. He also revealed that series creator Seth MacFarlane was personally involved in planning the episode.
“We are a year out, so we are writing episodes this month that won’t air for a year,” said Appel. “So the MeToo stuff became such a cultural force while were thinking of next season, and we are taking it head-on with an episode around Quagmire. We’re trying to be pretty fair about the whole history of the character. Seth encouraged us and even took a special interest while we were writing the episode.”
The MeToo movement, which has dealt with the pervasive problem of sexual harassment and assault, has resulted in scandal for high-profile Hollywood personalities like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. The movement has been led by women victims of assault, but male stars have spoken up too. Terry Crews of Brooklyn 99 has been very public about his own experiences with assault, even recently testifying before Congress.
How Family Guy will address the issue wasn’t detailed. It seems like an eventuality that such a problematic character would have to be dealt with, though, so we’ll see how Quagmire changes–or doesn’t–in the coming year.
Sharp Objects Episode 3 Review
What is the central mystery of HBO’s Sharp Objects adaptation? Is it the identity of the killer plaguing Wind Gap, or is it the slow reveal of all the terrible things that led Camille, Adora, and even Amma to be in the troubled states they’re in right now? With an episode like “Fix,” the most obvious answer is that these two mysteries will inform and dovetail into each other’s respective resolutions.
Does that mean Adora or Amma, or hell, even Camille, might’ve committed the murders? Not necessarily, but then why spend so much time advancing their individual character development without really showing progress on the murder case? “I guess you can’t trust Adora’s girls, can you?” Camille cheekily quips at one point. All that’s absent is a knowing wink.
