The Rock Is Excited About Rampage Reviews, Upsets Doom’s Twitter Account

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest movie, Rampage, has arrived in theaters. It’s a loose adaptation of the classic game of the same name, and while that may sound like a recipe for another bad movie, it’s actually quite entertaining, as our Rampage review states. The Rock seems pleased to have possibly cracked the video game movie curse, though he’s upset the people behind Doom’s Twitter account in the process of sharing that excitement.

Score aggregator Rotten Tomatoes tweeted to point out that Rampage‘s average review score at the time (53%) would put it ahead of every video game movie in history. The Rock took note of this, tweeting, “Wow! Very cool Rampage news! Not pointing to the scoreboard yet, but it seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse. And remember, I starred in the stinker Doom so I have lived thy curse.”

Cut to Doom’s Twitter account, which either didn’t take kindly to The Rock taking a shot like that or just reminding people that the Doom movie exists.

While the Doom movie wasn’t very good, things for the franchise have looked better since then. The latest game, 2016’s simply titled Doom, was a stellar first-person shooter, offering a surprisingly engaging single-player campaign. A PS4 Pro and Xbox One X update was released recently that makes those versions look especially nice. And late last year, we got a Nintendo Switch port that actually played quite well (albeit without some of the visual flair of other platforms).

As for Rampage, it’s out now in theaters. Our review says it’s “dumb as hell, but it’s also pretty dang entertaining.” It’s also got The Rock doing The Rock things, which on its own might make it worth the price of admission for many people.

Some links to supporting retailers are automatically made into affiliate links, and GameSpot may receive a small share of those sales.

There’s A Sweet Mustache (And More Bizarro Characters) In Superman’s New Story

While Superman fans are eager for the arrival of Brian Michael Bendis on Action Comics and his Man of Steel miniseries, the current events of Patrick Gleason and Peter Tomasi’s Superman comic have been a blast. The story revolves around brand-new Bizarro characters, including Robzarro, a Bizarro version of Robin with a really wonderful mustache.

The Boyzarro Re-Death storyline–which began in Superman #42–explores the relationship between Bizarro and his son Boyzarro, much like how the current Superman series delves into Kal-El’s family dynamic and relationship with his son, Jon. In the current Superman story, Boyzarro has become trapped on Earth, and from there, things get pretty wacky, even though the heart of the story entirely revolves around the dysfunction between Bizarro and Boyzarro.

And while the series introduces a plethora of Bizarro-fied DC characters, one of the best introductions came from the Bizarro version of Damian Wayne (Robin), Robzarro. Many Bizarro characters have a trademark to their look, and with Robzarro, it’s a mustache. “The mustache just kind of came to being out of the ether,” writer and artist Patrick Gleason told GameSpot. “We had Boyzarro and obviously Pete Tomasi is writing Super Sons so I thought, ‘We have to have the Robin version.’ We’ve never seen a Damian Wayne Bizarro version of Robin.

“So, as I was drawing it, and I was thinking about him, and a lot of this comes together as I’m drawing on the page. And as it’s coming together, I’m thinking, ‘Well, what’s he gonna be like? You know, he’s gotta be the opposite. He’s gotta be so affectionate and loving and over-the-top, like Shakespeare in the Park kind of flamboyant,’ and I don’t know why I just drew a mustache on him. I think in my mind it’s like a blend of Clark Gable and Gone With the Wind meets Gomez Adams meets, I don’t know, Pepe le Pew. So that’s really where that kind of came from in my brain.”

Gleason went on to say that we will see more of Robzarro in this current story but in a “cameo sense.” However, Gleason did go on to discuss the biggest challenge of writing this story: Bizarro’s dialogue. As many know, Bizarro speaks in antonyms. Instead of saying “hello,” he says, “goodbye.” Ultimately, it’s confusing and tough to read. “It’s horrible,” Gleason said jokingly. “Have you read it? It’s unreadable. It’s like eating brussel sprouts. It’s like you just choke it down because that’s the point. Bizarro doesn’t make sense. If you do read the dialogue, which I wrote, you know I wrote in regular speak and then kind of translated it.”

This entertaining and bizarre Boyzarro Re-Death storyline concludes with issue #45. It goes on sale Wednesday, April 18, at local comic shops and the digital market.

Incredibles 2 Poster Teases New Supers; New Trailer Debuts

A new poster for the upcoming Incredibles 2 has arrived, and it’s loaded with hints about the new movie–including a bunch of new characters. What’s more, the poster precedes a new trailer for the Pixar film, which will release tomorrow (April 13). [Update: The new trailer has arrived!]

The poster, which you can see below, features the first movie’s superheroes springing into action, plus baby Jack-Jack using his superpowers to make life miserable for a raccoon. Additionally, a new villain looms over the movie’s logo. What’s most interesting is the characters hiding in the background, though.

If you look behind the Incredibles, Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) and Edna, a new group of supers can be seen standing in front of an explosion. The names of these characters have not been revealed, but they certainly look like an interesting team of heroes in their own right.

What role they’ll play in the movie is a mystery, but it’s exciting to see that Pixar is expanding this universe of superheroes. After all, more heroes could mean more story possibilities.

Hopefully, when the new trailer arrives, it’ll offer some clues about these new supers and the villain causing so much trouble. Incredibles 2 hits theaters on June 15.

Logitech G Pro Gaming Headset Review

Be sure to visit IGN Tech for all the latest comprehensive hands-on reviews and best-of roundups. Note that if you click on one of these links to buy the product, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.

Logitech has given its newest gaming headset the simple moniker of Pro (See it on BestBuy), foregoing some bells and whistles in favor of a more streamlined device aimed at eSports enthusiasts. With a lightweight design, cross-platform compatibility, decent audio quality and a “pro” microphone, it’s a headset with a pretty simple feature set.Despite its stripped-down design, it’s still kind of expensive at $90, especially since it’s a wired stereo headset. That said, Logitech says it’s perfect for eSports or gamers who just want to use “pro” equipment. I tested them out to see how they stack up.

Monster Hunter World’s New Mega Man Armor And Weapon Now Available

Monster Hunter World’s New Mega Man Armor And Weapon Now Available

A new PS4 and Xbox One quest lets you get your hands on Mega Man Tickets to craft a cool new look (and weapon) for your Palico companion.

Monster Hunter World‘s Spring Blossom Fest rolls on. It’s already introduced new content and brought back some special, limited-time quests, but now we’ve gotten special crossover gear that you can craft for your Palico–letting them dress up like Mega Man.

We have a guide on how to get the Mega Man gear on PS4 and Xbox One, but it all involves grinding out an event quest that is available for a limited time. In the video above, we run through that mission, which takes the form of an Arena where you take on two Odagarons. While that sounds rote on paper, reality is a bit different, as one of the two monsters is a much smaller version of what you’re used to fighting. It’s actually a bit upsetting–it’s kind of cute!–but when you see how it clips through the ground due to its small size, you might not feel as bad about wailing on it with your weapon of choice.

In addition to seeing the Odagaron fight, you can also see what it’s like to have your Palico in the full Mega Man setup. This consists of a two-piece full armor set (like the Street Fighter gear for players, it can’t be equipped individually) and an accompanying weapon. During the event quest, you’ll hear special Mega Man music with this gear equipped depending on the weapon you’re using. That was first teased during the announcement of the gear last year, though we’ve only just now learned that you can’t hear the music while on standard missions.

The quest to get the Mega Man Tickets necessary to craft the new gear is only available for a limited time–it runs from now until April 27. The Spring Blossom Fest, meanwhile, ends on April 19.

It’s Friday The 13th, So Get The First 8 Movies For $13 In The US

Have you heard? It’s Friday the 13th weekend, which means you’re almost contractually obligated to indulge in a horror movie marathon tonight. The people at Microsoft would like to lend you a hand–or a machete, as the case may be. This weekend, you can buy Friday the 13th parts 1 – 8 for $13 on the Microsoft Store. Hurry, though, because the deal ends Sunday.

It’s a particularly good bargain, considering that the collection normally costs $104. To watch the movies, you’ll need a device that lets you log into your Microsoft account. That means you’ll need something like an Xbox One, computer, tablet, or phone. If you prefer using Vudu, you can buy the same set of movies for $20 here.

The movies, which came out between 1980 and 1989, have their ups and downs in terms of quality. Not that that really matters, since half the enjoyment of marathoning the franchise is poking fun at the hopelessly dated parts that are laughable today.

Even so, it’s always fun to get friends together to watch the masked killer cut down groups of teenagers before supposedly dying, only to come back in the sequel. We’ve even ranked each Friday the 13th film by kill count.

If binge-watching these movies inspires you to play the game, read our Friday the 13th review before you dive in. Just note that it’s received a number of updates and expansions since it launched last summer.

New Fortnite Update Released, Here’s What It Does

Fortnite has another update available right now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile. Version 3.5.1 aims to address a few issues with the game’s previous patch, version 3.5, and as such is limited to bug fixes. In other words, no jetpack.

In particular, the new replay system caused some problems whereby players’ games could crash. These problems have now been addressed, according to developer Epic Games’ official patch notes. Meanwhile an issue where players could fire weapons before the equip animation had finished under some circumstances has also now been resolved.

In Save the World, Epic has changed the way it converts event tickets into Llamas. From now on, players will receive one event Llama for every 1000 tickets; for any additional tickets above 1000, you’ll receive one extra Llama regardless of how many extra tickets you have. The developer has also granted all Save the World players two Spring Llamas for free. Take a look at all the patch notes at the bottom of this article, via Epic.

More free Fortnite items are now available as an apology from Epic for the game’s recent server problems. This weekend, Battle Royale players can get a free Back Bling item (a new type of customization slot added for Season 3), which is pictured below. Also this weekend, Save the World players can grab a Troll Stash Llama. Both of these will be available from the respective modes’ in-game stores. In addition, Battle Royale players will receive a “pack of Battle Stars,” which are used to rank up the Battle Pass and earn rewards.

There’s still no word on when the removed Guided Missile weapon will return to Fortnite: Battle Royale, but the game is at least playable once again. That’s good news, as the 3.5 update introduced a new Port-a-Fort item and made a variety of other changes. Week 8 challenges are also now available, although the server issues have prompted Epic to delay the release of the new 50v50 limited-time mode until next week.

Fortnite Update 3.5.1 Patch Notes

Save The World Bug Fixes

  • ‘Building Edit’ hotkey can be bound to keys other than ‘G’
  • We’re changing the Mini-Boss Mission Alerts for Canny and Twine back to their pre v3.5 state.
  • ‘Repair the Shelter’ objective now activates when you interact with the control panel rather than be based on proximity to the objective.
  • Granted all players two free Spring Llamas (can be found in the Loot tab).
    • We’ve changed the way we convert event tickets. Players get 1 event Llama per 1000 tickets and 1 Llama for any tickets left over.
      • (Example) If you have 5 tickets left at the end of the event, you still get 1 free event Llama.

Battle Royale Bug Fixes

  • ‘Building Edit’ hotkey can be bound to keys other than ‘G’
  • Fixed an issue where players could fire weapons before the equip animation had finished, if they were sprinting.
  • Fixed several client crashes that were related to the new Replay System.
  • Fixed an issue that broke player’s walking/sprinting animations if they were firing a Guided Missile while walking/sprinting.
