Two Point Hospital Is Shaping up to Be the Successor Theme Hospital Deserves

Two Point Hospital has a lot to live up to. It’s a spiritual successor to the 1997 classic Theme Hospital, being developed by many of the same folk that made the original. Thankfully, the charm and detail I saw all throughout the early demo I played made me more confident that Two Point Hospital could be the revival fans have been waiting decades for.

You’re put in charge of a private hospital and have to build out rooms, buy equipment, and hire staff to efficiently get patients in, diagnosed, cured, and out. Doing that makes you money, which lets you expand, which makes you more money, and so on. But unlike some similar builder games, you don’t choose the footprint of your building, so eventually you’ll run out of space and it becomes a game of optimization instead of expansion.

Universal Studios Orlando have unveiled a souped-up version of the Fast & Furious: Supercharged ride that first debuted at their California theme-park in 2015. While the main ride at the core of the experience is largely the same, this new version features some major upgrades that make it even better than the original.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged combines an enveloping 3D film, sensory effects, and ride vehicle vibrations to put guests in a set piece that feels right at home in any of the series’ films. It even includes fan-favorite characters like Vin Diesel’s Dom, Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs, and Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty.

Check out a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the ride:

Fortnite: How To Get Thanos And The Infinity Gauntlet

Fortnite: How To Get Thanos And The Infinity Gauntlet

Avengers: Infinity War’s Thanos is now available in Fortnite: Battle Royale on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile–here’s how to play as him. Don’t worry, no spoilers for the new movie.

Fortnite‘s Thanos crossover event mode, Infinity Gauntlet, is now live, giving you the chance to play as the Avengers: Infinity War villain himself. He comes as part of update 4.1, which is live on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile now.

In each match of the limited-time Thanos mode, one lucky player will get to use the villain’s powerful Infinity Gauntlet. You’ll get to play as Thanos until you either win or die, and he’s very strong. He has 700 health and 300 shields, and can jump high into the air after a short power-up time. [Update: He’s already been slightly nerfed.] But how do you get to play as the Mad Titan?

There’s no surefire way to get the Infinity Gauntlet every time, but there are a few things you can do to improve your chances. Stay on the Battle Bus until you reach the edge of the circle–in which the Gauntlet will spawn after approximately two minutes–then fly toward the middle of that circle. You want to stay airborne for as long as possible, but below other players vying for prime position.

You’ll hear a sonic boom to signal the Gauntlet’s spawning; it arrives by way of a comet crash. If you stayed around the center of the circle you should be in a decent spot to get to the device, no matter where it spawns. Aim ahead of the comet and try to get to the Gauntlet as quickly as possible. Players are notified on the compass of where the Thanos player is at all times, making them a big target.

If you miss out though, don’t worry: you can still play as the villain later in the round. If Thanos dies, he’ll drop the Gauntlet, and whoever gets to it first can take over evil responsibilities for the remainder of the match. BioWare’s New IP Anthem Will Let You Play Early

EA has teased more high level details on BioWare’s new IP, Anthem, which was announced last year and is in the works for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In the prepared remarks of EA’s latest earnings report today, CEO Andrew Wilson said Anthem is “stunning and ambitious,” adding that the game will offer “something entirely new” for games. He added that Anthem may have some kind of Early Access-style release, where BioWare launches an unfinished version of the game and makes changes over time based on fan feedback.

“Every dimension of this game will offer something entirely new for a wide audience of players–from a new universe with unique stories that BioWare is creating, to the cooperative gameplay, to the epic and beautiful environment that constantly evolves around players,” Wilson said.

“Anthem is a fundamentally social experience, and we will open new ways for fans to join the community and play early, enabling us to shape and refine the game with their input and feedback. We’re deeply excited to launch this brand-new franchise, and equally excited to work with our players to make Anthem a game they can’t wait to play and share with their friends for years to come.”

Anthem is due out in early 2019, though it is not completely clear if this pertains to full release or when EA plans to put it out for the early play period that Wilson mentioned. It’s worth noting that the wording on Anthem’s early play period sounds like a step beyond the kind of early play that EA/Origin Access members get. Subscribers get to play most EA-published games around five days before their public release. If EA wants to have enough time to factor in fan feedback and make meaningful changes for Anthem, the early access period would theoretically have to be much longer than five days.

During a Q&A with analysts today, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said Anthem will launch during the last month of EA’s fiscal year, which means March 2019. Previously, all we knew was that the game was due out in early 2019.

In other news, Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah recently confirmed he had joined the Anthem project, also in the role of executive producer. We’re expecting to learn more about Anthem during E3 2018 next month, so keep checking back with GameSpot for more.

This Year’s New Battlefield Game Teased By EA

A new Battlefield game is coming this year and it will be playable at E3 2018 next month, but the game has still yet to be officially announced. EA continues to tease the project, today saying that it will be a “deep and fully featured shooter” that features an “ongoing service” of some kind. The game is in development at series creator DICE in Sweden.

“With our next Battlefield game, the team at DICE is bringing the intensity of combat to life in new and unexpected ways,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said during an earnings call. “Every battle is unique, and every mode brings its own challenges–from the way you interact with the environment around you, to compelling single-player stories, to the next level of large-scale multiplayer that spans across multiple maps and modes.”

Wilson went on to say that Battlefield 2018–which is rumored to be set in World War II–will learn from what made Battlefield 1 such a major success.

“This will be a deep and fully featured shooter and ongoing service that will evolve with major new experiences for our community, beginning right from launch,” he explained. “Building on the success of Battlefield 1 and taking inspiration from DICE’s core DNA, this new game will advance the state of the art for the franchise, while still delivering the signature gameplay and Battlefield moments that have captivated and grown our global community.”

“All of the things that a Battlefield fan would expect out of a multiplayer game from DICE in the Battlefield universe will be there, while additional innovations in how we’re thinking about the future of multiplayer in first-person shooters will also be there, both at launch and over time as part of a live service.”

If EA does return to WWII with the next Battlefield, it will be the first in the series set during that era since 2009’s Battlefield 1943. 2016’s Battlefield 1 was set during World War I.

During a Q&A with investors that followed EA’s earnings report today, CFO Blake Jorgensen said EA is not scared to launch the new Battlefield game during the busy holiday period. “We’ve been able to compete against others like Call of Duty in the past,” he said, and this year should be no different, the executive added. He went on to say that Battlefield has a “very strong” player community. He said he believes fans will be “extremely excited” about the game.

That being said, Jorgensen said EA’s financial guidance for the holiday quarter includes some “conservatism” due to the crowded release calendar. The holiday season every year is always busy and crowded, and this year Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the mix as well.

An analyst asked Jorgensen specifically about if the new Battlefield game might get delayed to give it some breathing room against the competition. Jorgensen did not answer this directly, but he said EA will announce the game’s “exact timing” i.e. its release date, in the coming weeks and months, potentially during E3.
