Marvel has finally released the long-awaited first Black Widow trailer. Fans have been awaiting the upcoming standalone film, starring Scarlett Johansson, for years, and this is the general public’s first official look (Disney showed sneak peeks to fans during the D23 conference and at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, but that footage never went wide).
The Black Widow trailer was posted by Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account (and on YouTube) in the early hours of the morning, and it spans a full two minutes. Watch it below:
“I used to have nothing. And then I got this job–this family. But nothing lasts forever,” Natasha Romanoff–AKA Black Widow–says as the trailer opens. Fans who saw Avengers: Endgame this year are well aware of that, as Johansson’s character met a grisly end in the conclusion to the 20+ film Infinity War Saga. (Fans should also recognize that line, as it’s actually from Endgame, not this movie.) Anyway, Natasha’s fate in Endgame makes it extra strange that she’s getting her standalone movie posthumously–a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which, to be fair, has made plenty of firsts over the last decade.
Obviously, Black Widow will take place before the events of Endgame, and David Harbour told IGN recently that it takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Beyond Johansson, the cast also includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Harbour as Alexei (AKA Red Guardian), Rachel Weisz as Melina, and O-T Fagbenle as a character named Mason.
With its May 1 2020 release date, Black Widow will officially kick off the MCU’s Phase 4. If this trailer is anything to go by, it should prove to be a thrilling opening chapter in the next Marvel movie saga.
This story is developing–check back later for more updates.
Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will finally be with us on December 20, and in the lead up to the film’s release many fans are keen for more information about how the nine-film saga will end. We know that some elements of the Star Wars universe are best kept mysterious, and the cast recently teased fans by hinting at their reactions to the ending. Now, thanks to a special aired by Entertainment Weekly on People TV, we have a few more hints about what to expect.
The full special, embedded below, runs for 22 minutes. We’ve rounded up the juiciest highlights from it.
According to Daisy Ridley (Rey), The Rise of Skywalker is “a more, measured, adult approach to the Star Wars journey” when compared to the first two movies in the trilogy. It’s not entirely clear what that means, but she discusses how the strange connection between her and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren/Ben Solo will be explored further in the film. While it seemed like it might have been fully mined after The Last Jedi, Ridley assures the viewer that they’ve “mined it some more.”
Director J.J. Abrams discusses the difficulties of making the film, and how his wife Katie McGrath encouraged him to take the job because his nervousness about returning meant that he would do a good job. “The job of this one is to bring to a close three trilogies,” he says. “It’s an end to nine movies.” He also believes that the film needs to stand on its own, though, even if you haven’t seen the first eight. He says that this film is “a little less safe” than The Force Awakens was.
Oscar Issac, who plays Poe Dameron, says that his character has “a bit more to do” in this film than in previous entries. He also says that this one is about a “trio” of characters (Rey, Finn, and Poe,) much as the original trilogy was about Luke, Leia, and Han. This is an interesting comment, as Poe and Rey did not meet until the very end of The Last Jedi. He also talks about how we’ll find out more about where Poe came from in this film. “We get to find out that Poe’s got a bit of a past that he’s also been running from,” he says. Keri Russell’s character, Zorii Bliss, is a figure from Poe’s past, and Russell describes her character as “shady.” Issac adds: “The last time they saw each other, things may not have been left on the best of terms.”
John Boyega briefly touches on what’s different about Finn in this entry, saying that he’s a more mature character now, and he’s finally worked out what his place in everything is. Boyega says that he was worried that there would not be room in the film to show Finn’s development, but that this was not the case. “Finn is now a fully-fledged, 100% committed resistance fighter,” he says, “and has no fear whatsoever.”
Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3PO since the original 1977 movie, says that “so many of the cast get to do things they’ve never done before,” and talks about his character’s extended part. “C-3PO has been kind of absent for the last two movies, scenery on the mantlepiece…he’s back.” He says that he was not given the script until 2-3 days before filming, and that people kept telling him that he had a great role this time around. He describes the script as “magical” this time around, while also suggesting that it might be the final time he gets to play the character on screen, as he suspects that “the story closes here.”
Elsewhere in the video, new Chewbacca Joonas Suotamo discusses how the late Peter Mayhew came up to him after the release of Solo to tell him that he’d done a good job, and that the character was in safe hands now. Billy Dee Williams is emphatic about what a pleasure it was to work with J.J. Abrams–the whole cast has good things to say about him, but Williams calls working with him “one of the most extraordinary moments of my career.”
The video ends with an exclusive interview with R2D2, which, yes, is just a series of beeps and boops.
The first clip from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was recently released, and is worth checking out. The final movie will run for 141 minutes.

YouTuber Attach posted a video of the new map–and it looks pretty much exactly like it did back in 2007 except with better-looking graphics and one relatively small change to the map itself. There is a new back alley section of the map, but that appears to be the only notable addition.
Curiously, Attach said he was informed by Infinity Ward developers that he wasn’t allowed to use the attack chopper killstreak because it could cause the map to glitch. Here’s to hoping that has been sorted out for the public release this week.
Crash is just one of the maps coming to Modern Warfare in the Season One update. Some of the others include Vacant and Shipment, which were also fan-favorites in the original game. The Season One update also includes new modes, weapon blueprints, and more.
In addition to the Season One update, December 3 marks the start of Modern Warfare’s first Battle Pass. Just like with Fortnite, players will progress through tiers–of which there are 100–earning new cosmetic items and more on the way. Red Dead Redemption 2 won GameSpot’s 2018 Game of the Year award.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox One) | $30
Red Dead Redemption 2 won GameSpot’s Game of the Year 2018 for good reason. It’s an incredible story set in a huge, wild west open world, filled with tons of opportunities for action, hunting, and even quieter moments that’ll stick in your memory for a long time. Red Dead Redemption 2 is selling for $30 at GameStop.
Whether or not you love The Mandalorian, the appeal of Baby Yoda is undeniable. The character, who actor Werner Herzog described as “heartbreakingly beautiful,” is the clear breakout star of the series, even if Disney has not yet figured out how to merchandise it. While there’s still much we don’t know about the baby, it’s fair to say that it has captured our hearts–and it seems that’s true of the people who got to work on the show as well.
Bryce Dallas Howard, who directed episode four of the series, has discussed the Baby Yoda (which she refers to as “Baby”) in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She reveals that her children, aged 6 and 11, were on the set with her, but were not able to talk about the Baby with their friends. “The thing I was most nervous about was that my kids had been on set quite a bit,” she says. “So, they had seen Baby and interacted with Baby … When the kids went back to school, every single day I would say, ‘So, what are you not gonna talk about today?’ And they would say, ‘Baby!'”
Howard says that she would have to remind her kids every day that they could not talk about the baby, and it’s “confusing” now for them that they can, after having to stay quiet about it for a year. “We’ve been having this routine for about a year now, and it’s fun; it’s really, really fun. Everyone is super pissed that there’s no merch….but I think they made a good choice in not focusing there and just focusing on the storytelling.”
Elsewhere, Howard says that she had a lot of freedom to direct how the puppet moved, praising the effects team that created it and showrunner Jon Favreau for how everything is set up. “The Legacy operators said that each director would have a different way of directing Baby, and for me, what they would do is they would just look at me the whole time because I was just pulling faces. They were like, ‘We would just copy the faces that you were making, Bryce.’ I was obsessed with Baby and Baby’s internal journey.”
The fifth episode of The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ on December 6.

OBVIOUS MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING! This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but this article discusses the end of Shenmue 3 in-depth. If you don’t want it spoiled, turn back now!
Shenmue 3 is a game that, by rights, shouldn’t exist. The series’ ambitious Dreamcast entries didn’t sell well enough to greenlight more sequels, meaning fans had all but given up hope of seeing a continuation of Ryo Hazuki’s epic story. But in 2015, a Kickstarter for a third entry was launch and almost immediately funded. Creator Yu Suzuki would finally get his chance to revisit the series and potentially bring its story to the close that fans had been clamoring for.
Gaming on the go is no joke, especially if you’re a PC gamer. Thankfully, there’s never been a better time to grab yourself a gaming laptop, now that Cyber Monday is upon us. While there’s plenty to pick from, MSI gaming laptops are most definitely among the frontrunners for performance, price, and form factor. Check out the best MSI gaming laptop Cyber Monday deals below, but hurry before Cyber Monday deals dry up. We’ve already had to update this list once.
This is one of the lowest prices you’ll see for a while for a laptop with GTX 1650 graphics card. That graphics card might struggle for something like Anthem or Metro Exodus, but you’ll still be able to play optimized games like Overwatch, Sims, Fortnite, etc. The CPU is a modest Intel Core i5-9300H with 4 cores, 8 threads, and theres’ 8GB of 2666MHz RAM, 512GB of internal SSD storage, and a solid 60Hz display. You might be wondering why not 120Hz. That’s because that’d run you at least $1000. This laptop is a great option if you (or your kid) are serious about laptop gaming, but know you’re going to leave the super heavy stuff to your desktop.
Black Friday sales are slowing down, but Cyber Monday deals are ramping up to compensate. If you are in the market for a new HDTV, I have some great news: TCL has some great TV deals to ring in the holiday and some are even better than the prices available on Black Friday. Below, we have assembled a list of the best TCL Cyber Monday 4K TV deals, discounts, and sales available now, so peruse the list and buy your favorite. Right now Walmart’s Cyber Monday TCL TV deals are the best, but we’ll keep you updated on all the latest sales.
One of the best deals to come out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the Nintendo Switch Lite price drop. Now down to just £179, from £199, this is a great opportunity to pick up the capable handheld console.
The Switch Lite is a great take on an already awesome system, built for those who don’t require the docking capabilities, and simply want to play games like Pokemon Sword and Shield, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Mario Kart 8 on the go.
Every year, we at GameSpot do our best to look back at the dozens of great games that have passed under our thumbs and try to come to an agreement on which deserves to be crowned our Game of the Year. With so many games to consider, and with so many editors and producers bringing different perspectives to the table, we can’t fault you for wondering how it all works. Thankfully, it’s not all that complicated.
The ever helpful Kurt Indovina is here to help lay out the flow of our decision making process, and yes, have a little fun along the way. In the video above, he’s going to walk you through our early selection process. He’s going to describe how we narrow down a huge list of nominees from dozens of employees into something manageable. And he’s going to clue you into the factors we take into account when getting down to the final decisions for each category, and for the coveted top 10.
Is it decided by votes? Do we ever pick more than one game as Game of the Year? Must we succumb to the dark arts if only to overcome crippling indecision, just so we can meet a deadline? All good questions, but I’m going to let Kurt do the talking.
Once you feel like you’ve gleaned all the wisdom you can from him, head over to our gallery of Every GameSpot Game Of The Year for a look back at our picks for the last 22 years. We’ve also got a ton of other content looking back at the best of 2019, both in video games and in entertainment.
